South City may not be wealthy like West City, nor was it the glamorous home of the UDF like East City. It wasn't like North City, under the thumb of the Red Ribbon Army and other industrialists. No, South City wasn't home to any large faction and thus the cost of living there was much lower than in the other metropolises in the other continents. South City was the home of the everyday man.
It also was the home of many a petty little criminal that didn't want to contend with the policing of larger powers. That was the darker side of South City. In spite of that, the streets were still crowded, people had lives to live, and places to go. That made it the prime location for picking pockets.
The smart criminal knew that a crowd of people was a lot like a river. The flow of foot traffic was like the flow of water down the hill. The chorus of voices murmured like the water that babbled in the brook. Trying to push through a crowd was like trying to swim up stream. It was much easier to go with the flow in both cases.
Argo, a short majin boy, was very adept at swimming through this river of life and plucking out wallets and cellphones with out breaking his insouciant stride. He planned on getting a decent collection of spoils, then find a side street he could slip off to and go through his prizes in peace. Argo would go through the items and strip whatever was of value and safe to pawn, then dump the rest. Then he'd return back to the crowded streets and do it all again. Lather, Rinse, and Repeat.
At least that had been his plan before he had tried to pick the wrong pocket.
Anastasia's hand caught his wrist faster than lightning. Argo squawked, more from surprise than pain, even though Ana's grip on his wrist was stronger than steel.
"Hey! Lemme go!" Argo tugged at his arm, "Crazy Lady!!"
Ana cocked her head at Argo as if curious, then she lifted him up by his wrist till he was dangling in the air.
"O-owch! Stop it! You're hurting me!" The young Majin screamed angrily and kicked at Ana, but his legs were too short.
Wordlessly Ana plucked several wallets from Argo and held them up with a cocked eyebrow, "You're a thief... I should turn you in..."
Argo's eyes widened in a moment of panic, but then he growled and swung his head forward, the long antenna on his head shot out and shot a thin beam of energy at Ana that struck perfectly at her right eye.
Ana grunted and dropped Argo, her hand clapping instead over her injured eye. Argo took his chance and ran, slipping through the crowd he was so familiar with.
Ana winced through her uninjured eye with a frown. She patted her pocket to be sure and, yep, Argo had snatched her wallet on his escape. With a huff of annoyance Ana followed the short majin. She wasn't as adept at Argo at slipping through the crowd. But she had the advantage with strength and size.

It really wasn’t her business, honestly, but… times were tough on most people. Where there was opportunity, strife was sure to follow - the ultimate obstacle that no one could truly escape.
Still.
From her place on a… borrowed air bike, Zerori observed in plains-clothes the sudden ruckus that had begun near a sidewalk. Cocking an eyebrow up at the exchange a little majin kid was having with a woman, Zerori would watch with passive interest. Pick the wrong pocket, kid? Tough shit, And she should have left the scene to conclude on its own. Except something about the way the kid had yelled had her eyebrow twitching in annoyance. Stay the course, stupid… She tried to convince herself, keeping perfectly still as the kid’s game was up. It wasn’t until the kid felt scared enough to actually use magic that Zerori gave a gruff sigh, “Damn it,” She hissed, turning her head to watch the boy run swiftly through the crown.
She’d been a kid like that once.
Stepping away from the bike, the hybrid woman would approach the crowd just as the pursuer was passing her. Except, a beat later, they would find themselves being casually blocked off by Zerori. To make matters more clear, a fingerless gloved hand would come up to attempt keeping the woman from continuing forward. Dressed in a red crop-top, a half jacket as black as night with a pair of black slacks and some high-heeled boots, Zerori knew she was dressed to slay in a various many ways.
Too bad she just wanted to give the kid time to escape, “Pardon me, miss, but I’m gonna have to ask you some questions about those wallets on the ground. Turns out we’ve been hearing of a serial pocketeer in these parts. M’am…” Zerori raised her other hand to the sunglasses that sat on her nose, pulling them down to reveal blue eyes, “-you wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you?” Cue the smile.

Ana stopped short when the arm came out in front of her. She could sense the woman's power before even looking at her, Ana's dark eyes locking with Zerori's blue ones. She didn't even bother attempting to push past, that would have been an exercise in futility.
Ana just sighed softly and tried to mentally memorize the kid's ki signature. She just had to hope she could catch up before he dumped her wallet.
"I'm trying to catch the perpetrator. Ask any of the half a dozen witnesses," Ana said simply and gestured at the group of people standing around the dropped wallets. But in the typical fashion of bystanders no one wanted to gey involved. Some quickly averted their gazes, one even grabbed a wallet and scuttled away.
Ana would have rolled her eyes if she had been one iota surprised. But she wasn't.
"He has my wallet, so...?" Anastasia gestured ahead of herself, requesting permission to continue on her way. The majin had long since disappeared from sight, but she could still catch his unique signature. For now at least...

“Oh?” Zerori’s eyebrow both raised, mentally having fun just giving this person as much trouble as possible. “You’ve seen the perpetrator, then?” Ignoring with ease the statement that she was actually after said pick pocket. “Then I’ll need to keep for a few minutes of questioning. I promise, it won’t take that long,” Zerori would reach behind her back, pretending to pull out a notepad - only to materialize one in her hand with her magic before bringing it out and clicking the pen approximately fifteen times to make sure the pen did, in fact, click. “Now, what was your name M’am? And do you, at all, have any relation to the perpetrator of these heinous crimes?”
Drawing it out even more, Zerori would toss a look at the passerby that weren’t likely to interfere before she waved them off, “This is an investigation! Please maintain a respectful distance!” The grin on her face wasn’t wiped away fast enough before she turned back around and faced her ‘detainee’. “And you said they stole your wallet. Tsk, tsk, tsk - the absolute audacity…” Once more, the corner of her lips twitched upward - struggling to contain herself.
“Lastly, M’am - I’m going to have to ask for your phone number in case we’ll need to call you for any more questions. You never can be too careful in a city as large as this one. Who knows how many people can be waiting to take advantage of another!” As an added cherry on top, Zerori would tilt her head to the side, “Since you did lose your wallet, would you be opposed to dinner? Can’t have an important witness starve before we’ve closed the case, right?” Was she putting it on a little too thick? Was this crossing the line? All signs pointed to ‘yes’ but that didn’t really mean shit to Zerori who was having the time of her life.

Ana sighed internally, her outer expression expression still as impassive and flat as ever. She was going to have to accept that she might not be able to get to the majin kid before he ditched her wallet. It seemed that this person was determined to prevent her from her pursuit. But Ana was starting to get the suspicion that, that was exactly what she was trying to do. The more Ana stood here, the more she believed that was EXACTLY what the woman was trying to do. Each click of the pen only served to punctuate that.
Ana was tempted to confront her about it. This fake interdiction was clearly a ruse. She probably didn't have any authority to do so. But in the end it really wasn't worth it. Why make more of a scene and argue a useless point? Even if Ana demanded the woman provide some proof of authority she'd probably deny it, or even have some reason or excuse. It'd be faster to play along and get this game over with rather than be belligerent.
However, Ana blinked when the woman asked for her number and offered a meal. Was... was she really trying to pick her up???
Ana pointed at the woman, "You didn't ask for my name or any identification, much less provided your own. Asking for my contact information and offering to feed me seems out of order."
Ana reassessed the entire interaction. Was this all just an elaborate ruse to pick her up? Ana wasn't sure. She had never been very good at the whole social thing, much less flirting and dating. She was just perplexed enough that she momentarily forgot about her ever dwindling lead on her wallet.
If this was just a circuitous way to ask her out, Ana wasn't sure which would be more annoying. For some one to be messing for her just to get their kicks, or for someone who just trying to pick her up. Maybe the former. At least the latter would be just a bit flattering.

Oh, she liked this one. There was a subtle bite to her responses that were a perfect pairing to the scene Zerori was trying to make. Hell, was this fate? She didn’t really know but what she did know was that she had to make this worse. She HAD to!. “Now, M’am, there’s no need to be uncooperative,” With a manufactured expression of sternness, she would follow her words up, “Last I recall from my time in school, the words ‘What was your name, M’am’ - meant exactly that, but I don’t mind getting your number first.” With another wink, Zerori would actually pull her own phone out and start to type in the contact information, “Besides,” She muttered, looking at her phone with an expression of fake concentration. “If I don’t get a name, I’m just going to put you in here as ‘In Need of Food’ and keep pestering you,” Before looking at her new friend with a challenging smirk.
The ball was in her court… Well, actually it wasn’t, but she liked the idea that she was at least giving the woman the illusion that it was. Nothing was stopping her from walking away from the scene now, especially since Zerori had long since given the boy time to dip and hide somewhere safe. Perhaps she’d look for him and get the woman’s details that way if this didn’t work out…
With the wide berth the crowd was giving them and Zerori’s temporary mission complete, it felt fitting to finally drop the act but not without making a proper introduction, “The names Zerori and my credentials are highly classified and also incredibly sought after. So… can’t give them to you, I’m afraid. My number, however, is available to you! By the way, was that a ‘No’ to food? I know this great ramen place down the street…?” And this time, she was actually serious. There was something about this woman that intrigued her and it wasn't just that appeared stronger than most - if what Zerori was sensing from her was any indication.

Ana mentally smacked her forehead. She had been too busy trying to figure out this woman's game and also trying to keep track of the majin boy that she hadn't even caught the woman asking her name. Not only making Ana seem like an idiot, but also making her previous point of the stranger being rude, moot.
Ana sighed quietly, the barest breath out of her nostrils. She might as well just roll with it at this point. She wasn't going to catch the kid. This woman wasn't going to let her go with out a metaphorical fight. The sky is blue, and water is wet.
But when Zerori actually dropped the game, at least just a bit, and showed some sincerity, Ana herself opened up. The only sign of it was a slight widening of her stance, but that was telling for anyone who knew to read her.
"Considering the kid took my wallet, 'In Need of Food' wouldn't be inaccurate," Ana murmured quietly, "It's going to be very inconvenient to replace, you know."
Ana slipped the last comment in to show Zerori that she knew she had held Ana up on purpose. But there was no real barb in the comment.
Ana put her hands in her coat pocket and looked skyward as if contemplating something for a long minute. Finally Ana dropped her head forward and locked gazes with Zerori.
"Ana."
No other explanation or preamble. No greeting. Just her name. Then she turned and began walking, pausing only to look over her shoulder and gave a look to Zerori that seemed to say 'are you coming?'

With elation painted on her face in the form of a wide grin at the progress she made, Zerori was more than willing to compromise with a deal, “I’ll have you know that I take compensation quite seriously. Let the kid take what he wanted; we’ll get you your items back to you,” And it was when she gave a knowing wink that Zerori made the note to personally look for that wallet or, at the very least, get her newest friend her money back. Speaking of, it was in the moment right after that Zerori would finally know the name of her current mark and whistle wolfishly, “Well then. Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Ana.” When Ana turned around, Zerori didn’t hesitate to follow - wondering if she knew the exact Ramen place that Zerori was thinking of.
With business concluded Zerori could talk with a bit less theatrics involved, even if she did still have a grin on her face, “Not to move too fast or anything, but - I can’t help but be curious of the spark of power you have. I’m sure it’s obvious that I’m not your average roguish face,” When in doubt, flatter yourself and then the person you’re talking to. Though, now that Ana seemed to be fine with actually going to dinner with her, Zerori was more than willing to cut back on the control.
“By the way,” She started, her smile dropping a bit in seriousness, “-this isn’t an interrogation. You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to,” Zerori assured. Ana was, regardless of her strange power, just someone caught in the wrong place at the wrong time so Zerori wasn’t going to be an asshole about everything. Just a few things.
As they approached the Ramen place, simply known as the Wok the Wok, Zerori would open the door to gesture her inside before following her in. Thankfully, Ramen places didn’t have wait times since there was an inside and an outside patio to eat. “You choose the seat.”

Ana made a mental note to hold Zerori to her word when it came to her 'compensation'. The money wasn't the worst issue, even if Ana had been carrying a pretty penny in cash, but losing all her identification was an inconvenience she did not want to deal with if she could avoid it. Going through the channels of finding out how to get replacements would be a nightmare. When Zerori gave Ana a wolf whistle, she cocked her eye brow, Ana thought that maybe Zerori would have stopped laying it on so thick once she dropped her little game. But maybe the flirtation wasn't a game, but actually genuine.
"Oh now you care about moving too fast?" Ana gave the softest of scoffs, barely audible, but there was no real bite.
"I'm a pit fighter," Ana said with out any further explanation. Much like her name, Ana didn't feel a need to elaborate. She didn't realize that maybe her brevity might make her more mysterious and in turn more enticing to Zerori. Ana was just the type of person who didn't say more if she didn't have anything more to say. Not like her chattering new companion who seemed more than happy to jabber away.
Ana had been down this way a few times. There weren't many ramen shops in this part of town. At least not any good ones. Ana wasn't particularly picky, food was merely fuel to her, but her friend Akira would not stand for anything less than authentic, and this was one of the few restaurants that seemed to pass muster for her. So the odds were in Anastasia's favor that this was the restaurant that Zerori had been talking about. And even if it wasn't, Ana just wanted to put Zerori on the back foot and take control of the conversation.
Ana raised her hand in greeting to the shouts of 'welcome!' by the staff, and at Zerori's offer of seating, Ana led the way to a seat by the window. Somewhere private enough that people wouldn't be able to easily hear their conversation, but public enough for everyone to see them. Ana took the seat by the wall, placing her back against it, and made sure could see and faced the exit.
Maybe she was a little paranoid, but she liked to know her escape routes.
"Hello ladies and welcome to the Wok, can I get you any drinks to start with?" a smiling dog man with a wrapped head band tied around his forehead approached them. He was wearing a red apron, and carrying a note pad and pen.
"Ice water," Ana said quietly, the waiter having to lean in to hear, but then he nodded and wrote that down.
"Ice water it is, and you miss?" he turned to Zerori, and his customer service smile upped a few notches when he faced the patron that he perceived as the more receptive of the two. Ana seemed closed off and cold. Zerori looked like she knew how to tip.
As the waiter took Zerori's order, Ana flipped over the laminated menu sitting on the table. It was really only a single sheet folded in two. The handful of entrees were inside. This restaurant didn't have a large selection, but what it did have it was a master of. Most people didn't need a menu when visiting, as they were either all regulars who ate often enough to know the scant selection by heart, or were able to see the options listed on the black board in white chalk.

Now that was something that Zerori would really think about. She’d heard of pit fighters but had never actually given any stock in them because she’d had a goal in mind and pit fighting didn’t make the kind of money she had in mind. Not to mention, whatever fame she got to her name would be raised to the level of actually gaining a fandom (in some form) and that wasn’t what Zerori wanted… yet. Still, as she looked at Ana from the corner of her eye, things she didn’t see before were surfacing in their subtlety. The clipped answers, though she wasn’t rude about it; the power, obviously and the lack of aggression when met with someone stronger.
She was more than just a fighter; she was a survivor. Deeper and deeper the rabbit hole Zerori would fall when it came to this woman. She followed Ana, sitting across from her before turning her attention to their attendant. While Ana ordered ice water, a request that had Zerori side eye Ana with a cocked eyebrow, Zerori had a craving for-
“Sake - warm, please,” She was a predictable drinker, but at least she adhered to a theme. “Enough to share for two,” She added as an afterthought, not because she expected Ana to drink… but to keep the offer open if she was just being modest. She was serious about paying for dinner and one did not simply eat without drinking. Well, drinking being the subjective factor… “Tokatsu Bowl with extra Tamago, please,” Zerori ordered for herself before giving a gesture with a chin toward Ana for her to order. Once their orders were placed Zerori would pay no more mind to the attendant.
Her attention was focused on Ana, getting back to the subject before, “Is it difficult?” She started, her voice low. “To talk about your time in the pits? I might be rude but even I have secrets,” She wasn’t going to deny being interested and had a second topic on the back burner if Ana was reserved about it. They could even enjoy some silence, though Zerori imagined that would get real awkward - REAL fast.

Ana cocked her head when Zerori ordered hot sake. It seemed a little early to be drinking, but Ana didn't say anything about it. She rarely drank herself. Not that she didn't drink at all, but Ana didn't like losing control of herself. That was the primary purpose of drinking. To loosen one's inhibitions. It was too easy to make regrettable mistakes when people drink to excess. But Ana never begrudged anyone else their indulgences. She might partake in Zerori's sake... she would have to see where her mood takes her.
"The chef's special today," Ana said when the waiter asked for her order. She liked trying the different options that the chef would make for the day. It kept things varied and interesting. Ana had her favorites, but she enjoyed mixing up her routines.
When Zerori asked about if it was difficult for her to talk about the pits, Ana's brow creased ever so slightly in confusion, "Why would it be? What do you want to know?"
For Ana her time as a soldier, her time as a pit fighter, it was all just... something that happened. Speaking about these things were like the average person speaking about their time in school. It was just a part of her story. Her life. For Ana this just seemed... the way things are. That wasn't to say that her life hadn't come with it's own struggles. She still woke up from nightmares of her time in the war. Not often, but there were times when she'd find herself laying breathlessly in the dark with the sounds of explosions ringing in her ears. Phantom pains of old wounds and the real pains of new wounds would wrack her body at times.
But these weren't things to hide or things she found difficult to live through. Of course, this resulted in Ana making people uncomfortable when she bluntly answered questions they hadn't been prepared for the answers to. She had little to no tact in social situations. Social niceties and unspoken rules of engagement just passed over her head at times. Sometimes people don't literally mean it when they want to share "war stories". Go figure.

Well, now Zerori just felt silly - even though the offer was out there for her to ask to her heart’s content about Anastasia’s time in the pits, she was hung up on explaining why she felt the need to be cautious. “Perhaps the pits on Earth are different from the pits on Vegeta; from what I understand, however, you don’t typically join the pits as a career choice,” Zerori conversationally explained. The memories of what fighting arenas were like in a world where - and hindsight was 20/20, keep in mind - the most common form of entertainment was always bloody and full of violence.
Earth was different. Still violent, still bloody - but the context meant something else entirely. So, taking Anastasia’s offer, Zerori asked, “When did you join the pits and, more importantly, what made you leave them?” While she wanted to remain tactful, Zerori wasn’t going to deny herself the opportunity to learn about this strange woman.
As they conversed, and in record time, their drinks were brought to the table and sat down - a gleaming smile thrown Zerori’s way that would prompt a cocked eyebrow before she refocused her attention back on Anastasia. The food would arrive soon, if the speed of the drinks were any indication, but she still wanted to try and get as much time without food as a distraction to learn about the woman across from her.
Whether or not she knew anything about Saiyans (or whatever Zerori was) the moment the food hit the table was the very same moment that any talking would go out the window until Zerori was finished with her food.
Not that it lasted very long to begin with.
"I suppose my last question, before the food arrives, is what were the pits like. As a point of comparison," Zerori would begin, taking the modest jug of sake and the round saucer to serve herself with before pouring an amount, "-On Vegeta, we had a place that was often used for fighting just for entertainment. Sometimes challenges were issued officially there and other times it was competitions. All the same: they were a constantly bloody affair and - in most cases - you either left with some broken bones, some permanent injury that the docs couldn't heal or..." She knocked the drink back, savoring the burn down her throat before finishing with a growl, "-not at all."

"Hmm..." Ana tapped her fingers on the table thoughtfully as she turned over Zerori's questions. She digested them, and considered her responses carefully. Not out of any particular need for tact, Ana had never been very good at that, but just to give an accurate answer. Finally, she shrugged, "I suppose I'm not typical."
Ana loosened her scarf slightly, the ramen shop was warmer than the outside, and then took a sip of water before continuing, "It is a career choice for me. Fighting... is the only thing I know. I was a soldier before the pits, and when the war ended and there was no need for me anymore... well pit fighting was the simplest work I could find."
"It's bloody, violent, and dangerous work, but no more so than what I used to do..." Ana paused when Zerori's sake was delivered, she continued after the waiter left, "I joined the pits only about 2 years ago, but I don't think I necessarily left. I still pick up a fight or two here and there. I've never really signed a contract with any one fighting circle."
There were slave pits, Ana knew. And there was fighters that were basically slaves after signing sleazy contracts tying them to the pit arena they had signed to. Ana had managed to avoid such fates. The only reason Ana had joined the underground fighting pits, rather than a more legitimate fighting operation, was multi-fold. It was easier to get into. The high turn-over, ie mortality, rate meant there was always an open spot for fighters. Unlike a more official forum. She didn't need to put in her dues and essentially 'audition' for a fight. And while money wasn't really a priority of Anastasia's, it was a much more lucrative profession. High risk, high reward. Lastly, well... a part of Ana needed the danger. She didn't quite realize this herself. But after all the time she had spent fighting for her life, it was her status quo. A fight wasn't 'real' with out that danger. A small part of her was uncomfortable and didn't know what to do with out the adrenaline rush of fighting for her life...
Ana eyed the sake thoughtfully and decided, why not? She took her own saucer and poured a modest amount of the spirit before also taking a drink. She didn't knock it back with quite the same force as Zerori, however. Ana wrinkled her nose just a bit at the fire that roared down her throat, but it smoothed out soon enough. She decided to wait on a second drink, however, she wanted to pace herself, not in the least interested in getting drunk.
"It sounds like the pits on Vegeta were mostly the same as here," Ana responded, "The main difference being that here the pits aren't necessarily... legitimate. They're frowned upon by general society. Fighting in the pits isn't necessarily illegal, but it's far from respectable work. Most pit fighting rings are associated with one crime ring or another."
Ana shrugged, if she was bothered to essentially be working for criminals, she didn't show it, "The usual forms of fighting for entertainment would be the typical martial arts tournaments, with the greatest being the World Martial Arts Tournament. But those fights are... tame. There is no risk to your life and limb. Not like pit fighting. In that, Vegeta and Earth are fairly similar. The fights go on until one of you can't fight anymore... whatever that may entail."
Ana's mind flashed briefly back to the last time she had lost a pit fight... the feel of a hard chitinous foot smashing into her ribs again and again. Each kick forcing more air out of her until there was nothing left. Then her broken ribs crushed into her lung and each kick forced out more blood. It felt like she would drown in it. She couldn't remember how she survived. Only waking up on a cot in a back room with a breathing apparatus on her face attached to a machine that looked nearly as beat up as she was. It was the only thing keeping her breathing, and would be a long time afterwards...
Ana blinked and shook her head slightly to banish the memory. The food arrived with perfect time, two large bowls of ramen placed before the woman. The waiter bid them to enjoy their food before retreating. Ana grabbed a pair of chopsticks, reusable ones made of synthetic wood rather than the splintery disposable kind, and dug in. Her appetite was unfazed by the topic or memories.

Not typical? I could have told you that from the moment I met you, Zerori thought to herself with an amused smile hidden behind a swig of her Sake. With a patience that Zerori was not typically known for, she listened to Anastasia’s story about her time; pleasantly surprised when she learned that Ana had been a soldier. What kind, Zerori didn’t know, but she’d heard of the war and had adamantly refused to take any part of it. She still felt the same way now that she did back then and certainly had no plans to change how she felt: What other countries decided to do with their people didn’t matter to her as long as it never affected her.
If war came to her - she’d deal with it, then.
There was, if only a little, an annoying nagging feeling in her chest that she was being unfair to the woman across from her however. It was a challenge to ignore it, especially when the experiences Ana had weren’t mundane. As she suspected, but hoped wasn’t the case, the stoic woman before her was… by all technicalities, a trained killer and was comfortable with the power she possessed. The comparison and differences that she made between the pits of the two planets was apt and, honestly, not a surprise to her.
“Illegal is such a weird term; even though I didn’t have any intention of joining the pits back home, it’s strange to consider them so taboo,” Zerori shrugged, pouring another serving even as she noticed Ana hadn’t taken a second drink after her first. Taking it slow, are we? Don’t worry, I don’t bite unless I’m allowed to, She silently teased, trying to behave herself as she listened. When their food arrived, Zerori’s grin widened a thousand fold and she whistled once more, “FINALLY!” She exclaimed, earning a few looks from the people around them but hardly giving a shit about it. When her bowl was settled in front of her, Zerori looked back up, “Our lives aren’t so different, if you can believe it. But, uh…” She looked at her bowl, eyes glinting dangerously with a ravenous hunger, “Gimme a minute or two?”
For anyone that knew anything about a Saiyan, the ramen before Zerori would hardly stand a chance to the ravenous appetite that made her people infamous in restaurants. In fact, it might have been why the waiter was so interested in Zerori. As promised, the ramen, sides and everything in between had hardly lasted seconds after Zerori had dug in and absolutely destroyed her dinner. She was, of course, still hungry - but they were there for more than just food.
With a heavy sigh of content, Zerori leaned back and wiped her mouth the back of her hand, “Nice. This places’ portions are exactly why I don’t mind staying for fifths. Speaking of,” She looked at Anastasia with an almost serious expression and pointed at her, “Don’t hesitate to ask for seconds. I can’t imagine you only had the amount of one dinners’ worth of money in your wallet, right?” She teased, her smile returned with a wink. “You told me about you when I asked and, since this is our first date, it only seems right for me to do the same.” She laughed, keeping her distance in case she was going to do that little trick with her fingers and flick energy at her.

"People sometimes like to pretend they're better than they actually are," Ana murmured in response to Zerori's comment on the taboo, " 'Oh, we're not like those other barbaric people. We have peace and prosperity. Pay no attention to the bloody wars, slave rings, drug trafficking, and more besides. We are earth and we are good.' "
Ana's flat and straight forward voice just helped to punch home the ridiculous of such a statement. The hypocrisy of it all. She wasn't bitter about it, however. Merely just... jaded. She'd seen first hand all the terrible things people can and would do. A small part of her, deep down, hopes to believe that people were basically good, loyal, and kind, contrary to the evidence other wise. Oh she didn't think that of everyone. That would be naive. But she hoped to think the average, every day person was good at their core.
If there had been any doubt that Zerori had any saiyan blood in her, it was dispelled immediately upon the arrival of their food. Zerori crowed like a rooster and dug in with the ferocity only saiyans seemed to have. Ana just ate her food at her own pace. Taking her time to blow on the noodles. She had no idea how Zerori had managed to avoid burning her mouth from the freshly made hot soup. Maybe she chugged it too fast for the heat to take effect. Like a fire walker moving across hot coals before they burned his feet. Ana mentally snorted at the image in her head of Zerori simultaneously chugging a bowl of ramen while walking across flames.
Ana slurped at her noodles when Zerori mentioned seconds she flicked her eyes up to her, gazing at her from behind her bangs. She took a second to swallow her food before stating, "Several hundred."
It'll take more than a few bowls of ramen and cups of sake to replace that. Even if Ana wasn't primarily motivated by money, that didn't mean it wasn't an issue. Yes, her biggest concern was getting her paper work back, but the money was important too. She was just going to have to cut her losses. She may be out a pretty zenni but she gained a..... an acquaintance??
Ana pointedly ignored Zerori's mention of it being a 'first date' but when Zerori offered to share more about herself, Ana shrugged and said, "I don't have any questions for you."
Dear blunt Ana. With the flat tone and point blank matter of fact response, one could misconstrue Ana's response as purposefully snubbing Zerori. That wasn't true, however. Ana was just being honest. It wasn't that she didn't want to know anything about Zerori at all, but that she couldn't think of any questions. And even if she could she wouldn't ask them regardless. She was accustomed to people keeping their stories and backgrounds close to the vest. Just because Ana herself didn't care about talking about her past, didn't mean that she hadn't come across more people than not who refused to share their own.
Either Zerori would tell Ana about herself or she wouldn't.
