The day has been very long and very tiring. Despite fatigue settling into the Saiyan's body every step he took towards newfound greatness, he wanted to press on. He felt like he was on the brink of a grand discovery. He realized he needed to broaden his horizons. As of right now, the only attacks he could really dish out to people were his Halo Buster and Shatter Beam. However, assessing the situation he had gotten himself into with Liari, both seemed very inadequate in dealing with the Majin. Jorey had been trying to figure out how to expand his arsenal of attacks, but he felt like he was getting nowhere. This wasn't how it usually was, and everything was just flat out frustrating. The Saiyan sat in the middle of an island, debris and destruction all around him. He was thankful to have been wearing his weighted gear. If not, he would have done so much more damage to his surroundings. He'd been getting much stronger since his fight with Liari, since the first training session with Quash, since the Orange City incident, and even since his training session with Maycair. If he were to go all out, he felt like he could do some real damage to this planet. The Saiyan looked down at his hands. His gloves were tattered, and his bodysuit was also pretty worn out now that he'd looked at it. Despite wearing gloves, he still managed to get callouses from training. His body preached of its desire for a break, but he didn't want to give it one. That was when Jorey's interruption came in.
Dyve descended in her VTOL and got out of it, strutting straight towards Jorey. The blonde woman just barely shorter than Jorey raised an eyebrow as she looked at his fatigued state. With a hand on her hip, her head tilted to the left a bit, and sass in her voice, she regarded the Saiyan and his training.
"So, you gonna admit you're overdoing it, or do you want me to tell you it?"
The annoyed Saiyan grunted at the Earthling that just dared mock him, his back still facing her and him not moving an inch.
"Woman, don't tell me you're here just to try and rub this shit in my face."
That same "woman" rolled her eyes at the arrogance and rudeness of the Saiyan, heading back into her VTOL to grab something. She promptly returned, not even gone for half a minute, with a new training suit for Jorey, new gloves and new boots as well, all the same color and model as the tattered ones he was currently wearing.
"No, 'male Saiyan,' I'm here because I wanted to show you some hospitality and give you a new training suit that most likely doesn't smell like monkey dung and isn't completely beaten up like some alcoholic's spouse. But, since you wanna be a Grade A Saiyan asshole and be all grumpy and sad 'cuz you can't seem to get stronger lately, then I think I'm just gonna take my bodysuit and talents elsewhere."
There was a brief moment of silence between the two, as Jorey started to think things over a bit. Against his pride and stubbornness, the Saiyan got down from his tail, standing on his legs, and turning around with his hand out for the suit.
"Fine, I'm sorry. Please give it here."
Unfortunately, the Saiyan didn't get too far on the route to Dyve and her gift. He took a couple steps and immediately fell face first into the ground, unable to move. Some more silence blanketed the two individuals there, with the Earthling's face being painted with a huge smile that she was finding hard to contain. Even laughter was starting to be too hard to hold back. However, she managed to do that, and returned a snarky comment to the monkey on his face.
"Well, since you said 'please,' I'll consider it."
Jorey let out a muffled response, his face still planted in the ground.
"I hate you."
"No, you don't. How 'bout you rest up a bit before you literally kill yourself while training?"
Fortunately, new clothes wasn't the only thing Dyve brought with her. She also brought some food to share with the Saiyan. It was a good thing she brought a lot, but a bad thing that she didn't really know Saiyans had a huge appetite. This was a learning experience for her, as Jorey tore through the lunch and dinner that she had prepared for him in one sitting. The Earthling looked at the lone wolf in disgust, fear, and confusion all at once, trying to make sense of the whole situation. Calming his eating down a bit so he could talk casually and eat, Jorey explained to the uneducated Earthling.
"I appreciate that you took the time to have this all made for me, but you should know, Saiyans have insanely huge appetites. What you call 'breakfast, lunch, and dinner,' I call a midnight snack."
"Duly noted. So, what seems to be the issue, Mr. Metabolism Man?"
"The issue is that I don't seem to really be making any progress. I feel like I'm stagnating, not just in power right now."
"I don't see how that's an issue. You're a lot stronger from when we first met. I mean look..."
Dyve put on her scouter and pressed the button on it, calculating Jorey's current power level. It beeped a little and then settled on a number.
"See? You used to be, what, like six-thousand when we first met? Look, you're at twelve-thousand right now. Hell, you're halfway to thirteen-thousand."
While Dyve spoke Jorey set aside his food. He then stood up and took a many steps forward, putting himself a considerable distance away from the defenseless Earthling.
"Obviously, your scouter isn't picking up everything."
Dyve was instantly hit with confusion, not understanding what Jorey was saying at all. Once the Saiyan was a considerable distance away from the onlooker, he powered up as much as he could with the weights on. He was able to reach his full power, but he wasn't able to maintain it at all. His Ki skyrocketed into the air, sending Dyve's scouter into a frenzy as she got a new reading on Jorey's power. Once it read his true power, and his Ki died down and everything relaxed, she spat out her next sentences as if she was trying to cast a curse on the lying Jorey.
"What kinda bullshit are you spouting to me, asshole!? Your power level's insane! You just jumped up to fifty-thousand! The hell do you mean you're stagnating!? Is this what it's like for a Saiyan to stagnate!?"
Jorey turned around and sighed, walking back towards Dyve.
"It's not just about reaching these heights. I'm stagnating in power and technique. I only have two attacks that can be seen as effective to people, but it's still not enough. I need more."
Dyve looked at Jorey, confused and needing answers.
"So, what have you even been trying?"
"Everything. Just look around you."
Upon surveying the land, Dyve would take into notice all of the potholes, burns, tears, cracks and overall damage that was done to this island. It was as if someone came in with a hurricane of fire and destruction, but just barely was able to graze the surface. It was like whoever had this destructive power wanted to intentionally not destroy too much around them. It was someone that either cared for the environment, or cared enough to not draw too much attention to themselves. There was a change going on inside of Jorey for certain, but what exactly was that change? Was it for the better, or for the worst? Dyve was only certain about one thing because of this change: it didn't seem like Jorey was going to go back to mercenary work for a while. In response to the environmental destruction around her, Dyve inhaled through her teeth and leaned back onto her hands.
"Yikes. You sure you don't need a counselor?"
"I am my counselor."
"That explains the unwarranted aggression. Okay, then..."
The blonde haired woman would slap her legs and stand up. There was something Jorey was doing that just felt wrong to her. Of course, she knew nothing about Ki control or battle, so she wasn't an expert. However, she knew that barking up the wrong tree for too long would only get you nowhere as a result.
The contractor walked over to her confused and frustrated mercenary and crossed her arms. With one eye open, she proceeded with her questions.
"So, you said you tried everything, right?"
"Yes, idiot, do you not understand the language I'm speaking?"
"Shut up, monkey breath, I'm tryna help you."
The man with said "monkey breath" did nothing but snarl and growl at the insolent Earthling woman, thinking she's hot shit. The insolent Earth woman continued.
"And by 'everything,' what do you mean by that?"
"I mean, I would try some sort of technique out, and if it don't stick to the wall of ideas I got going on in my head, then I stop and look for another that'd stick."
"Why the hell would you do that?"
"'Cuz I need a powerful new technique that would knock people on their asses? What kinda question is that?"
"The kinda question that's making you realize you're doing nothing but wasting time this way."
"The hell did you just say to me, you green nose little shit?"
"Dumbass, do you know how hard it is to come up with a new idea on the fly? Without any inspiration? It's difficult as all hell. No wonder you're tighter than a virgin going to Sunday mass about this! You're literally just burning through your Ki and making negative progress! How 'bout, instead of trying to come up with a completely new technique, you build off a technique you already have and make it stronger?"
The Saiyan stayed quiet for a little while, his intense glare still painted onto Dyve. The gears in his head were turning, and he was definitely picking up what she was putting down. Just wasting Ki and getting nowhere wasn't ideal, and that's exactly what he felt like he was doing by trying to come up with a new technique idea. After a little while, his gaze went somewhere else, fixated on the horizon. It was as if the idea was somewhere out there; he just had to look harder and harder for it. Jorey walked up to the middle of the flattest part of the island, his gaze never separating from the horizon. He didn't have an idea yet, but he had a concept he was willing to work with. He stuck out one of his hands and harnessed Ki into it, a red-purple ball appearing in his hand. When he harnessed enough, he shot out a Halo Buster, cutting straight through the ocean and disappearing into the horizon. It was enough to kill Dyve, for sure, but it wasn't to Jorey's satisfaction. The woman watching the training happen asked a question.
"What was that?"
"That was Halo Buster. It's a move I've developed for years and probably the one I'm most fond of."
"Okay...so then, why not develop off of that?"
"That's what I'm tryna do."
There were many attempts at evolving the Halo Buster to new heights. He tried putting more and more Ki into it to see if it had the effect he wanted. The ball of Ki would grow bigger and bigger in his hands, and shoot out all the same, as a Halo Buster. It wasn't the results he wanted; it was just an ultra-powerful Halo Buster. He didn't want an over glorified version of the same attack; he wanted a new one. Jorey tried again, still with the Halo Buster. He poured all of his Ki into it, only to make it oversized and too heavy to control. The Saiyan immediately had to stop before he fired it and dragged attention to himself. Trying again, this time he condensed the ball to be smaller. It was still just as heavy, but at least it wasn't a huge size, so it was easy to control. Definitely worth looking into at a later time. Many other trials and errors ensued. Jorey tried supercharging it with Ki, holding his arm up with his other hand. The Ki would morph and condense a bit, changing from the red-purple hue into a darker purple hue. The beam was shot forth, no longer a Halo Buster, but something different. The Saiyan stood up straight, and the Earthling woman behind him leapt for joy and excitement.
"Ooooo, now that's a fancy new gadget you got there. How's it feel to make another new technique?"
She walked up to Jorey, only to see that his facial expression was unchanged. In fact, he looked more disappointed than anything. Dyve just didn't understand, and now her face was reflecting that feeling of confusion she felt swarm over her body.
"What? What the hell's that look for? You to what you wanted! It's a new technique, that's definitely more powerful than your other ones. How are you not feeling it!?"
"It's not enough."
"What?"
Jorey didn't answer for a little while. He let his Ki surge through him, and he looked down at his balled up right fist. He was getting close, he knew it. It was a good sign that he was able to come up with something new, but he wasn't satisfied with this technique. It felt weak, weaker than he wanted it to be. Certainly, it was more powerful than a normal Halo Buster, but he would abandon this idea for a greater one.
"It's not enough. It's not strong enough to my liking. I need more power, a stronger technique. That one wasn't nearly as strong as I'd like it."
Dyve just stared at him wide-eyed, as if Jorey was speaking some sort of blasphemy to her religion.
"What the hell is up with you Saiyans and your thirst for power?"
"It's not like I'm obsessed with becoming stronger just for the sake of becoming stronger. It's to fight those who are stronger than me, to continue breaking my limits. It's to honor my family, my lineage, my Saiyan heritage. It's..."
Jorey paused for a moment. It was obvious what he was feeling. The motivation was more than there, but he was too afraid to admit it before. What's wrong with just admitting some words? It's the truth, and the sooner that you can admit the truth, the sooner you can accept reality. The sooner you'll be able to be free, truly free. The Saiyan lifted up his right fist, gripping it even tighter into a fist, with conviction and pride in his heart.
"It's to protect the people I care about."
Dyve could see the determination in his eyes. It burned like a fire that had been waiting for it's moment to really let loose. This fire was being held back either intentionally or unintentionally, only being fed twigs and leaves. Now, it was given a huge piece of firewood, and it was roaring to life. The Earthling had a feeling that this wasn't the only piece of firewood that was there to feed that fire. No, there were thousands more where that came from. With that, she let Jorey continue. She didn't understand why he wasn't satisfied with the other attack from before, and she didn't think she would understand. However, she had to respect that burning fire in his eyes. She had to respect that conviction. If she didn't, then she would be a sorry excuse for an Earthling. The blonde haired woman turned around and walked back to the place she was sitting at before. She reclined there once more, watching as Jorey continued his training. The Saiyan's eyes, filled with the fires of conviction and determination, were highlighted by his delighted smile.
The Saiyan tried more techniques out to see if they were to his liking. Many of them weren't there yet, but he kept mental tabs on the ones that interested him the most. He tried condensing Halo Buster into a ball. That wasn't satisfactory enough. He tried firing off multiple Halo Busters in rapid succession. No, that was just him spamming his signature move. He tried charging up his Halo Buster, and then channeling all that energy into his fist, slamming it into the ground. The impact created fissures in the ground of the island, but it wasn't like it was a huge, terrain bending fissure. It was mainly just cracks in the floor. It wasn't exactly what Jorey was looking for, but the idea did pique his interest. He would develop on that one later, for sure. He tried condensing the Halo Buster into a very powerful, minuscule ball of Ki, as well. That wasn't exactly what he was looking for either, but it was another technique to keep a mental note on. As the sun reached the horizon, Dyve started to yawn, drowsiness coming over her. She stood up once more and walked over to the sweating and panting Saiyan, as if he'd just finished running a marathon.
"You done, yet? Maybe you should continue this tomorrow?"
"No, not yet. I'm right there. It feels like it's on the tip of my tongue, or rather the tip of my fingers for this instance."
"You sure? It's not healthy to keep this up in the state you're in. You keep this up, you won't be able to protect the people you care about; you'll just be knocked out. Kinda surprised you have people you care about in the first place."
"Nah, it's right there. I can feel it. I just gotta...dig DEEP!"
As he yelled those words, Jorey put his hands out in front of him and unleashed a greenish-blue, powerful Ki wave. The idea occurred to him suddenly: what if he tried firing it off with two hands. It felt more powerful than anything else he's fired off or accomplished so far, and Dyve seemed to think the same thing. He hair was blown back, revealing her hairline from her bangs, and her face was nothing short of stunned. The Saiyan smiled a bit, but his work wasn't done, yet. No, he needed to perfect this technique. Instinctively, Dyve pulled back and walked away from the situation, unable to take her eyes off of Jorey. With her gaze glued onto him, Jorey put his hands by his sides, charging Ki into them. The Ki started off red-purple at first, but gradually started changing color to green-blue. He roared as he continued charging Ki, electricity flickering from his hands and around his body. When he was ready to fire off his technique, he put his hands out in front of him, completely outstretched, and fired off a super powerful Ki beam straight into the horizon. The beam of Ki cut through the ocean, continuing further and further and further until it broke through the atmosphere in the distance, and went through space. It would continue onward for a bit, and then die down and dissipate completely.
The work was done. Jorey held his hands out, huffing and puffing like the big bad lone wolf self that he was. Soon, that huffing and puffing turned into a chuckle, then laughter. He stood up straight and started laughing towards the heavens, his hoots of glee acting as if he was mocking those above him. His new technique was complete, and he couldn't be more satisfied. Dyve was certainly shocked and impressed, to say the least. She walked up to Jorey, putting a hand on his shoulder and greeting his gaze with a nervous smile. He'd gotten a lot stronger, for sure, but she was a little worried about how strong he could possibly get. No doubt, she couldn't oppose him now.
"Well, there, hotshot. Looks like you got yourself a new toy...Right?"
Jorey looked down to Dyve and smirked.
"Yeah, it's here now. Man, I'm so fuckin' sexy!"
"I dunno about 'sexy.' Maybe, intimidating? A monster? Demon? Ugly-ass monkey!"
"You're starting to sound like those Changelings."
"Okay, okay. I'll stop. I'm not racist, I promise."
There was a silence that fell upon them for a bit, as they reveled in Jorey's newfound power. Then, Dyve would break the silence, asking a very important question.
"So, this attack of yours? Does it have a name?"
"Yes, it does."
Jorey's smirk never died down. He lifted up his fist to his face, gripping it tighter as he said it's name.
"Call it, the God Buster."

"I am my counselor."

Jorey paused for a moment. It was obvious what he was feeling. The motivation was more than there, but he was too afraid to admit it before. What's wrong with just admitting some words?
