Once again the Dragon Balls had drawn Liek to a scar left in the Earth by the Fury War. His blue eyes gazed out of the torn and shattered mountain that marked the field of a fierce battle fought by the J-Numbers a hundred years before. Looking at it now, the boy would be able to easily imagine the locals thinking nothing of the current state of the landscape. It would logical for them to assume something mundane, like a small meteor impact, had caused the damage long ago, and from a distance that is probably what people of the time thought it was, just a series of meteor impacts they’d failed to see coming.
The winds of the mountain range, and the birds that rode those winds, had blown the seeds grasses and flowers up to the heights and the hardy and determined plants had started to carve out a place among the blasts soils. Even a few trees had started to take root, defying the fury of the bitter altitude. In a way it was illuminating; no matter how fierce the battle, how fiery the emotions and staunch the conviction, the conflicts of the present are but a fleeting moment in the Grand Scheme of Time.
This place, the mountain top, had once been the place of a meeting, a violent battle and the first defeat of the J-Numbers.
One hundred years ago Cay-Luum had intercepted Rudee, Fa, Galifrey and Yumi as they where attempting to evade pursuit by the forces that killed Rudee’s father. The youths had no idea what they where doing and where just trying to survive at this point, so Cay-Luum was not an obstacle they where prepared for. The Knight Lord immediately recognised the armour Rudee was wearing, the armour of Ro-gantus, Rudee’s father, the Captain of the Royal Guard and Cay-luum’s mentor.
The armour was a precious artefact with history dating back millennia of Fury history, constantly repaired and reforged with the latest technological advancements but always used in service of the Royal Family. To find it worn and operated by a young human who bore a striking resemblance to his mentor was quite a shock to the Knight of the Fury and gave him pause, but also set his resolve in stone. He was determined to recover the armour and learn the identity of the boy.
As the battle wore on Cay-luum learned the identity of the boy and the fate of his mentor all at once. To say he was shocked was would be an understatement. It is no small thing to learn that your honoured teacher not only had a secret child, but that he had also perished just days earlier from terrible wounds. It caused the Knight Lord to falter for a moment.
A moment that was exploited by a new arrival; Carolina, still carrying bandaged wounds from the destruction of Research Base N-B-751 and a burning desire to avenge her slaughtered comrades, and clad in the prototype armour that had been developed at the base, descended from the sky and attacked Cay-luum with reckless abandon. The reason being, she had witnessed the destruction of the base, barely surviving, and distinctly remembered one of the attackers clearly, wearing the same black armour that Cay-luum was wearing.
This was no coincidence, Cay-luum had lead that attack.
Not looking the gift horse in the mouth, Rudee, Fa, Yumi and Galifrey joined the attack. Despite fighting five against one Cay-luum’s title of Knight Lord wasn’t just for show, and against combatants who barely understood the Furiemshinken they stood little chance against his Mastery. In just a matter of minutes all five of Cay-luum’s opponents had been injured to the point they could barely stand, even they refused to give up the fight. The only reason the resistance against the Fury didn’t come to an end at this very moment was because Cay-luum was ordered to immediately report to another area of operation.
Although he wanted to continue and capture Rudee, and now Carolina, he was ever the dutiful Knight and obeyed his orders, quitting the battle, much to the frustration of the five defeated fighters. Carolina had been especially furious, swearing vengeance for her lover, Callum, who was apparently slain at Research Base N-B-751.
...Funny how she ended up marrying the very man she swore to kill…
Inhaling the cold mountain air the boy stood up from the rock he’d been seated on and stretched. With a sigh he straitened up and looked at the Dragon Radar before nodding.
It was time to get to collecting the next Dragon Ball again.
