“Captain.” The computer of the Gau-la-Furia said to draw the attention of Liek as he typed away at a console on the Captain’s chair on the bridge of the arcship. Ever since the Fury Gods had appointed him to the position of Prince of the reformed Holy Fury Empire, Liek had been hard at work on the ship ensuring it was ready to leave the Earth at a moments notice. Part of the preparation had been updating the information aboard the ship, including his personal details. The ship was fully aware that he was now it’s monarch, however the system insisted that the rank of Captain superseded the title of Prince. However, it did acknowledge the elevation by remodelling the Captain’s chair into an elaborate throne, complete with cushioning and support meticulously sculpted to provide maximum comfort for him specifically.
Liek was not sure how he felt about that.
Turning his attention away from the console the boy nodded to let the system know he was listening. “Detecting multiple FTL exit events consistent with Saiyan technology.” The system explained, earning another nod from the boy.
The Gau-la-Furia was currently in orbit around the Earth, temporarily, for this exact reason. The refugees from Vegeta where arriving, and in accordance with his agreement with Queen Zaks the boy-turned-Prince of the Fury was ready and willing to receive them. The deal was heavily biased in favour of the Saiyan Queen, maintaining Saiyan independence from Earth during a crisis while also keeping a copy of all the Saiyan records the Queen had stored in the Royal Library aboard the arcship. In exchange Liek had mostly gotten knowledge and the sense of doing the right thing.
The massive arcship was currently orientated with the aft spoke pointed in the direction the Saiyan refugees where arriving from and broadcasting instructions to the arriving pods using official Saiyan channels, as provided by one of the Queen’s aids. The instructions where simply, directing them to land in the hangers at the rear of the ship.
Looking over the schematics the system provided for the arcship the boy considered the plan to house the refugees. Naturally most where going to stay in the central disk, while those who would rather not wait for Vegeta to be restored where going to be given the option of going into stasis in one of the outer spokes. The problem would be storing all their pods, at least it was until the system had informed him that nearly three quarters of the central disk’s allotted military equipment storage space was empty. Considering how that space was supposed to store things like landing shuttles and tanks there should be plenty of room to store all the extra pods. The Arcship could just use it’s drones to ferry the pods from the hangers after those on board had exited them.
The last quarter of equipment storage held the few remaining Fury built tanks, vehicles and shuttles in existence, in addition to numerous other weapons. While only two (three if he counted Jar-Keel who didn’t have access to the ship) people who could even activate Fury technology, the boy was taking no chances and had ordered that section locked down and sealed, and the atmosphere vented for good measure, to ensure the Saiyan refugees didn’t go poking around in there.
During the wait in orbit the boy had mostly occupied the time by practising a technique he’d observed several times since his journey began, the power to hide and suppress the user’s fighting power, making them harder to detect while also allowing them to fighter weaker opponents without overwhelming them entirely. Between that and the arrival preparations Liek had been working hard for several hours, but his job wasn’t done yet. Glancing at a monitor he saw the first wave of pods landing inside the hangers and with a tired sigh the boy stood up from his chair and left the bridge.
Several minutes later the boy arrived in the hanger to find a very rowdy scene.
Saiyans of all ages where scattered about, some in small groups, others alone. A heavily scarred elderly Saiyan watched over a few toddlers, grabbing them by the tail swiftly whenever one tried to toddle off. In another area what looked like a small family of dirty looking Saiyans huddled together with the male doing his best to look intimidating, despite Liek’s senses telling him the man’s power was well below the boy’s suppressed power. A few older Saiyan children where trying to get near Opherla’s attack pod, which looked far better maintained then the pods the refugee’s arrived in, but where being kept away by several drones. A group of Saiyan females where dragging a surprisingly large supply of meat out of a pod. Many more where huddled around in different sized groups, either sitting or standing, but all either looking angry, confused or lost.
All of them where wearing Saiyan style armour, unsurprisingly, and for the most part the power levels Liek felt from them where all on the low end, likely Low Class for the bulk of those that had arrived so far. But there where exceptions, three groups of Saiyans, twelve in total, had taken up a kind of peace keeping role, making sure new arrivals kept to the rules set out by the Liek and ship. Although they probably didn’t know he was in charge yet.
Then there where the four highest power levels among the Saiyans, they where acting like they ran the place already. Given what the boy had learned of the Saiyan social hierarchy he could only conclude that these four where among the Elite, thus the above the rules attitude.
It didn’t take long for the four Elites to take notice of the child walking in from the other side of the hanger. The female of the group pointed him out to the apparent leader, a giant of a man with long, massively spiked hair on one side of this head and a braided beard. His muscles where so massive he had apparently decided that sleeves and trousers couldn’t contain them and made do with a vest and briefs under his armour. The giant of a man laughed at Liek and, leaning down to the boy’s eye level, asked, “Well then, are you supposed to be the Bell Boy? Here to welcome the guests?” His cronies laughed heartily as the man stood back up to his full height, “Well, Bell Boy, I’ve got good news for you! I, the Great Rutaba, claim this vessel in the name of the Saiyan Empire! GRAHAHA! You have the honour of serving me now!!” This earned another round of laughs and cheers from his entourage.
“I’m going to have to pass.” Liek replied drily. Seriously though, they hadn’t been on board an hour and this idiot was trying to take over? The boy shook his head, “You may not like it, but I’m the Captain of the Gau-la-Furia and I have no intention of handing her over to you.” The boy looked at the much larger full-blooded Saiyan defiantly, “I offered refuge in good faith. Are you really going to spit on my good will so soon after being granted it?”
Rutaba snorted as he looked the boy up and down before grunting at one of his underlings who obediently clicked a button on his scouter. After a few moments the device beeped and the Saiyan read off the reading, confirming to Liek that his practice earlier had born fruit, “Power level is… five hundred.”
“BWAHAHAA!!” Rutaba started howling with laughter, while the middle and low class Saiyans sighed in resignation, looking down and defeat. With a power level like that there was no way the boy could stand up to an Elite! “Five hundred?! Is that all!” The Elite laughed and grinned sadistically down at the hybrid, “Listen up hybrid, I had a higher power level then that when I was born! My power level is twenty two thousand!” The man put a particularly nasty emphasis on the word hybrid, showing his disdain for impure blood.
“I see.” Liek replied, not in the least bit threatened, “Well then. Take it from me. The ship and captaincy, I mean.” The boy looked the older Saiyan in the eye, “That’s the Saiyan way, isn’t it? Positions of power go to the strongest?”
The Elite Warrior smirked and chuckled, “You’re right. It does.” He smiled, “I guess you aren’t a total waste, for a hybrid, if you know that.” He cracked his knuckles and laughed, “Alright then, if you survive this I’ll keep you around as my personal lapdog.” His grin turned twisted as he pulled his arm back, “IF you survive!!” Then the man threw his punch, aiming straight for Liek’s head with all of his might.
If the boy’s power level had actually been five hundred it would likely have killed him. But it wasn’t, Liek released his suppression and allowed his power to shoot back up to it’s normal level before Rutaba could even land his punch.
When the punch did land, the boy’s head barely moved.
“Wha-?!” The Elite stared in shock, as did his cronies. One of them thought to try their scouter again, the get a new reading. The hanger was completely silent as the scouter started beeping as it started counting…
And kept counting… and counting…
Every single Saiyan in the hanger was completely still as the scouter kept counting, each one acutely aware of what this already meant, including a rapidly paling Rutaba. Finally the scouter beeped in finality and the Elite stammered, not making a coherent noise for a solid minute. Rutaba, freaking out more then a little practically screamed at his subordinate, “DAMMIT! JUST WHAT DOES THE SCOUTER SAY?!”
“I-IT’S… IT’S OVER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND!!!” The poor man screamed in genuine terror.
The giant Elite’s mouth fell open in shock, incoherent noises issuing from his throat as his mind struggled to grasp what he was hearing. That… that couldn’t be possible, could it? Sure, the Queen was more powerful then that, but she was a freak. Even General Shizo didn’t have a power level that high! And here was a boy, a mere child, supposedly with a power level any Saiyan, Elite or otherwise, would dream of having.
“That’s not all.” The boy said ominously before howling and sending the Elite Saiyans flying off their feet just from the surge of power, golden light washing over them. Once all eyes turned back to Liek several Saiyans fell to their knees, looking at the boy in reverence, the sight of the Golden aura and golden hair unmistakable and leaving Rutaba’s ego utterly shattered. Each and every Saiyan recognised the Super Saiyan.
“Anyone else want to challenge me?” Liek barked before looking down at Rutaba, “Or are you all going to recognise my authority as Captain of this ship?”
As soon as he saw Rutaba meekly nodding the boy released his transformation and sighed. After a moment he spoke up, “Welcome aboard the Gau-la-Furia. I am Liek Galswith, Son of Inion. Please follow all instructions from the ship’s computer so we can get you all settled in. There are training facilities and other recreational options available during your stay. If you don’t want to spend the whole time aboard this ship waiting there are stasis pod options. Thank you.”
With that said the boy walked back out of the hanger but when he was just a few steps down the hall he felt something tug on his sleeve. Turning around the boy found a small Saiyan female, maybe twelve years old, holding his sleeve. After a few false starts the girl asked, “I have two questions… first of all… How? How did you become a Super Saiyan?”
“Training, effort… and the need to protect someone precious to me.” Liek answered honestly.
“Could I… a low class Saiyan… become a Super Saiyan?” She asked.
Smiling the boy replied, “I’m sure you could, with enough work.”
For a moment the girl seemed to struggle with what to do with those words, and perhaps with her own pride. Judging by her black hair the boy was fairly sure she was a pure-blooded Saiyan. He didn’t have much of a history with Saiyans as a whole but he got the impression that they where not fond of hybrids like himself.
Suddenly the girl got on her hands and knees, literally prostrating herself before begging, of all things, though some of what she said was truly alarming to the boy, “PLEASE! I beg you! Train me to become a Super Saiyan! I’m so sick of being treated like dirt by the Elites! So sick of the mocking and beatings! So sick of having a measly three hundred power level!” The girl looked up at him with tears running like rivers from her eyes, “I’ll do anything! You can take it all! My pride! My freedom! I’ll bear your children! Just…” She lowered her head to the ground again, “Please…”
The boy knelt down and placed a hand on her shoulder, “Hey…” He said quietly, “It’s ok… there’s no need to go that far. I won’t ask you to have my kids… Pretty sure my girlfriend wouldn’t be thrilled with that idea.” He tried to lighten the mood. He pulled her into a sitting position and added, “Tell me first though, what do you think of Queen Zaks’ reforms?”
“Huh? I…” The young Saiyan looked confused for moment before shaking her head. After a moment she replied, “I think they’re good. We shouldn’t be wiping out worlds just because we’re strong.”
Liek nodded in approval, “You pass. You are right, the strong should use their power to protect, not to destroy.” He gently patted her on the head, “Alright, I will train you. But be warned, I’m not going to train you as a Saiyan. I’m going to train you as a Fury!”
“A… Fury?” The girl looked confused. Now that she was closer to the older boy she couldn’t quite tear her eyes away from his face, while at the same time the allure of his raw power mixed with his paradoxical gentleness drew her in even more.
“Yup. The only species able to boast that they thwarted the invasion of one hundred Elite Saiyan Warriors during a month long full moon cycle!” Liek stated proudly.
The girl could only blink her dark eyes blankly.
“So…” Liek said awkwardly as he helped the younger girl to her feet, “I don’t think I got your name?”
“Oh!” The girl blushed, “Uh… m-my name… my name is Cauri!”
“Cauri!” Liek grinned, oblivious to how that just made the girl blush more, “Such a pretty name for such a pretty girl!” Again he didn’t notice her blush deepen, “Well, Cauri, from now on you’re my student!” He looked away from her and said, “Computer, update her parameters.”
“Confirmed, parameters updated for: Initiate Cauri.”
