It was a peaceful, calm afternoon in the southern islands of Earth. The cool sea breeze was sweeping across the islands much to the delight of the residents who dwelt upon them. The sun shone through the sparsely clouded sky and the waves rolled across the shores much to the delight of beach goers. For those holiday makers and residents the islands where the picture of an idealistic place of relaxation and entertainment, the perfect day to forget your worries and spend the day outside with loved ones.
Master Roshi, as distant as he may have been from the humdrum of civilised life, was no exception to the desire to enjoy the simple things in life. As such it would not have surprised anyone who knew him as to what he was doing that day…
With that kind of build up many would expect to find the ancient martial arts master sprawled out on a fold out chair on the beach of his isolated him, enjoying the sun and breeze, possibly working on a tan alongside Turtle.
But, oh no. The old man had other plans. Instead the old man was taking full advantage of a brand new set of binoculars he’d mail ordered recently. To make full advantage of the binoculars the old man had used that old submarine he’d bought before the Android Incident all those centuries ago and sneakily driven it closer to civilisation, scaled a cliff and was now using the vantage point to observe a gaggle of young women in their bikinis.
So absorbed was the old man in his ‘observations’ and giggling to himself he failed to notice a shadow approaching him from behind. The figure, wreathed in shadow by the sun’s angle looked down on the old man with a critical eye for a moment before a broad grin spread across their face. Leaning down the voice whispered in the old man’s ear with a sultry, yet innocent, voice, “What are you doing, Mister?”
“SWEET JIMINY CRICKET!!” The old man screamed as he leapt away from the voice, limbs flailing before taking on a defensive stance while turning towards the speaker. In that moment three things clicked in the old man’s brain, the first being his feet where no longer on the ground, the second being the shit eating grin on Liek’s face. The third was the sensation of plummeting off the cliff, screaming, into the ocean below.
Turtle was hysterical, one fin clutched against his chest while the other slapped the ground while laughing his heart out as Liek and Roshi relayed what had happened earlier, the old man thoroughly water logged and his brand new binoculars lost to the ocean, while Liek set the submarine back down in the ocean gently.
“Yeah, yeah, laugh it up.” The old man grumbled at the turtle before turning back towards his student, “Did you really have to ruin my fun like that?” He grumbled.
“It’s the duty of the youth to drive their elders mad.” Liek replied nonchalantly. A comment that earned him a whack on the shoulder from the old man’s cane.
It was only at this moment that the old man thought to inspect his student and, upon sensing his new power level blurted, “Hot diggidy! Damn boy! Your power’s getting THICC!”
“Please…” Liek cringed, “Please, never use that word again.”
“What?!” The old master replied, “Why not? Are you implying I can’t use the lingo of the youth because of my age?”
“No, Master.” The boy replied, “Because that saying has been out of fashion since before my Grandmother was born…”
“Wha…? Seriously…?” the flabbergasted old man stammered, “But… But… what about Flossing… and the Tiktokking?!”
The further cringing from the student sent the ancient teacher to his hands and knees, “Oh… Oh no… and I just uploaded that dance video…” He moaned, “I was so sure it would make me look cool and hip and attract some beautiful young lady students!”
Not knowing what else to do the boy knelt down and patted his distraught teacher on the shoulder.
After some more time passed the elder sighed and asked, “I take it you came here to train, right Liek? So what was on the agenda today? Here to learn the Solar Flare, perhaps?”
Shaking his head the youth offered a smile, “That’s not on the agenda today. I do want to train, but I wanted you to supervise as a worked out the kinks in one of my Furiemshinken techniques.”
“Oh?” The old man’s interest was piqued, “I take it you’ve advanced your control of that Energy Materialisation then?” The old man chuckled, “I was so shocked when I saw that for the first time! Turning Ki into physical matter is no small feat!”
“Thank you, Master Roshi.” The boy smiled in reply, “And yes, my control is advancing nicely. I’m fairly sure I’ll reach the next level in that technique pretty soon, actually.”
The old man’s mind boggled as to what that would look like.
“But today I’m here to train a different technique, Cloud Fold.” The boy explained.
“Oh? Describe it for me.” asked the wizened ancient.
“Well, first I use Energy Materialisation for form a Cloud of energy around myself.” As the boy spoke he demonstrated with action, channelling the materialisation technique through his entire body and expelling tiny motes of crystal all around himself, “The Cloud is a defensive technique that can diffuse incoming energy attacks… but can also be used as an energy source.”
Then it clicked for the old man, the unlike most other defensive techniques used by other martial artists, this Energy Cloud didn’t spend energy outright, it kept the energy in reserve. That explained both how it diffused energy attacks, it ran on the same principle as a beam struggle! The energy used in the technique persisted until struck, and was only consumed at that point. That meant the user could redirect that energy for other uses! Absolutely fascinating!
“I then pick out a point in space and… open the way…” As the boy’s attention became focused more on performing the technique his speech slowed, unsurprising since more of his mind was busy on actually shaping the technique then on unrelated tasks. Then the boy flashed green before vanishing completely.
In the exact moment the boy vanished the old man heard a shout come from inside his house followed by the sound of crashing pots and pans. A moment later he heard Liek’s voice drift weakly out of the house, “I’m ok…”
Stroking his beard the old man laughed, “Boy went and got himself a technique like that tucked away, hm? Can’t wait to see it mastered!” He then shouted, “No time for lying around, Boy! I want to see you do that trick Nine hundred and Ninety Nine more times before you leave! You got that! Now get to it!”
“Yes Master Roshi!” The boy called back from inside the house.
