Chapter 1: Settlement settlement: an official agreement intended to resolve a dispute or conflict Yoguri looked at Shorette with pure confusion, then eyed the woman in confusion. This was Yoguri's fight to take, and all of a sudden, someone that she practically took hostage of wanted to help. But why? This had nothing to do with her. "At what cost, though? This has nothing to do with you. This is my home, these fuckers took over it, and have the one thing that holds Nifara's identity. You're just an outsider who practically loots in the name of 'knowledge and history'. For all I know, you could try to steal Ittar's Vision for yourself." She explained, her tone turned cold and dethatched just as it felt as if Yoguri was about to somewhat open up a little. "...Damn, you really had to get all descriptive and demeaning, didn't you?" Shorette asked, almost annoyed at the accusation and the assumption of her. "Yes. I had to. 'cause it's true." Yoguri reassured. Shorette, as offended as she could be, couldn't blame her. It made sense for her to get defensive. Shorette was nothing more than a stranger, and after informing her as her profession of being a treasure hunter, it was no surprise that Yoguri didn't have complete trust in her. Shorette would've done the same, no doubt about it. Though, there was something that Yoguri had yet to realize: whether she wanted to admit it or not, whether she truly preferred to work alone than with someone else who could be written off as a liability, it all fell to one thing: she needed help and she could gain an ally from it. "Listen... I get it. You think I'm some filthy treasure hunter who steals and sells," Shorette already cleared up that she collects artifacts and trades them off more monetary and knowledgeable gain as an archaeologist, but what she just said wouldn't really be far from the truth. It may as well be just a glorified version of what she really does. "But this filthy treasure hunter knows her way around danger. The bottom line is, you can't do this alone no matter how good you think you are. You're going to need an extra set of eyes to watch your back. There's a shit load of them, and only one of you. The odds may not be in your favor even if one other person join, but you won't be the only one thinking on their feet. Not to mention it's not my first time handling situations like this, either. Better be with someone that's prepared." She explained. The last part was a bit of a lit, but Yoguri didn't need to know that. Usually Shorette likes to freestyle and think off the top of her head whenever she encounters danger well beyond her control or something she can't back down from. Such a method hasn't failed her yet, so who's to say it'd fail her now? "Call it a trade off for my cost; you get Ittar's Vision, I get to finish what my father started in regards to researching Nifara." She said. They've both had something to benefit from, which was exactly why Shorette made her offer. Just so she could gain some trust from Yoguri, but as of now that trust was yet to be established. Yoguri scoffed and rolled her eyes, almost unimpressed with Shorette's answer. Tough crowd, Shorette wouldn't thought. "Of course your type wouldn't do something out of the kindness of their own heart. There just has to be some sort of little reward dangling right in front of your nose to even consider helping out." She ridiculed with an empty laugh. As expected, Yoguri had her doubts. Shorette responded back with her true thoughts, an unpleasant truth that may catch the former soldier off guard. "Because we both know I'd be lying through my teeth if I said that I felt bad for you and wanted to stand by you for what's right. Because honestly? I don't. I barely know you. What you've went through is very unfortunate and none of us can go back in time and prevent any of this from happening, but you're a stranger to me and I'm a stranger to you. And you're right. This is your battle. I don't know this group like you, so I'm very much willing to walk away. I know my limits. Instead, I'm trying to reach an agreement between the both of us, an agreement we both can benefit from."Yoguri only stared back at Shorette after her comeback. Though, Shorette wasted no time in getting one more word in before she let the soldier decide whether or not she'd let the woman help her. "If it only benefitted me, trust me when I say I think I have enough kindness in me to back out if there was no good to come out of all of this on your end as opposed to mine." Deep down, what was said was meant seriously. It was true, if Shorette didn't benefit from the situation, she would've walked away. She even went as far as to do the same if Yoguri didn't benefit from it either. She very well could've went through while leaving the soldier all on her own to fend for herself. But she wouldn't. Why? It wasn't how she operated. It was one thing to leave someone behind if they're a complete liability, but Shorette was never one to double cross. At least... not anymore. She made sure of it. For the first time since their encounter, emotion flickered on Yoguri's face, as if taken back by what Shorette said and... possibly guilt for the initial assumption she made of the woman. What felt like a few minutes of silence that lingered between the two, Yoguri's face went from flabbergasted to resolve. "Fine. You can tag along, but in two conditions. First, I take back Ittar's Vision and you only focus on collecting notes on Nifara. Second, I call shots in controlling this operation." She announced. With a slow, firm nod, Shorette had no choice but to accept. At best, she'll only jump in if Yoguri didn't have control over whatever they were about to jump into. "That's all I ask for." She said. "Now that said... how do you plan to take out over 100 soldiers infesting the area?" She asked. The soldier shook her head as she started getting ready. "We won't. Usually around this time, most of their guards move over to another post to look after as Tofoo likes to have them patrol the area and cover ground, scouting for any other potential area to claim as their own. That means we'll be dealing with less of his kind, making our job 10 time easier in hunting down Ittar's Vision and you collecting notes." Yoguri explained. "Convenient. I like it" Shorette said. "By the way, how good are you with guns?" Yoguri asked. Shorette took a moment to respond. How good was she? She was someone that relied on using her body as a weapon, but she worked around firearms long enough to be comfortable with them. "Good enough, I'd say." She replied. Nodding, Yoguri pulled out a pistol from her side band with a silencer and an assault rifle from her back. "Then take these. We'll only use them if we need to take some soldiers out quietly from afar or if shit goes down the drain and we have to light this place up." She explained. "Duly noted." Shorette accepted the pistol and rifle, placing the pistol in one of the belt's slots and wore the rifle's strap, having the firearm safely hanging on her back. It felt as if it were a while since she held a gun. She wasn't afraid of using them and knew her way around using it if absolutely necessary, but it still felt weird. "Alright. Let's go." Yoguri turned around and exited the area as Shorette followed suit. The woman wasn't sure what Yoguri had up her sleeves, but she had enough experience to know when things would go down the drain and when to jump in and take the reigns, whether she liked it or not.

Yoguri and Shorette both slipped out from the cracks and arrived back to where the two first met; right near the edge of the cliff that Nifara hid from below. Stalking close to the edge and looking over, what Shorette saw confirmed that Yoguri was right. There were a lot less soldiers roaming the area compared to when the woman first arrived. She even felt the vibrations within the air lessen, signaling that most of the guards did in fact leave the area, most likely on Tofoo's command. "I have to ask, though," Shorette lowered her voice for only the former soldier to hear. "If you know what their schedule is like, why wait so long to pull something like this off? Why not do it sooner?" She asked. She was under the assumption, based on the location Yoguri brought her to, that the soldier kept close tabs on Nifara and soldier activity. Surely after learning their pattern, she could've done this way before the young woman even arrived or even thought about traveling to the abandoned city.
"Just because I've hung around here a while and surveyed what they're doing doesn't mean their schedule would be consistent. For all I knew, they could've just show up at the wrong time when I thought things would go smoothly. It wasn't a risk I was ready to go through with." Yoguri replied. Understandable. The fear of time being against you for the one window of opportunity taken was something that wasn't worth going through. Although Shorette wondered if that were the case, did that mean... no, she had to stay positive... but the possibilities-
"You see that building just east of the statue from where we're standing?" Yoguri interrupted Shorette's thoughts as she pointed exactly where she said. "That there used to be the Arbitrator's office. Or, as you'd know better, the mayor's office. From my observations, it's now Tofoo's little office. Ittar's Vision is guaranteed to be locked up in there." She explained.
Shorette followed Yoguri's finger and spotted a tall building compared to the other ones they saw in the city. "Arbitrator, you say? So they get to play leader and judge. Assuming they only announce what punishment will be given or who's innocent based on some sort of vote from the townspeople, if Nifara was so hooked on the idea of being so 'orderly' and obsessed with the idea of fair justice." Shorette thought it was odd for a person to play as the intervenor. She always thought everyone was seen equally under the eyes of Ittar, hence the name of the artifact, "Ittar's Vision".
Yoguri only shrugged. "No civilization could survive as long as it did without some sort of leader. We, as the people of Nifara, do get to have a say on whether or not the majority of us feel as if the Arbitrator in position is fit for the title." She explained. So democracy isn't a dead concept after all. Good to know, Shorette supposed. Her next question would've followed up with the last Arbitrator's relationship with the Society of Welvth, but she had to theories she figured she'd keep for herself: the Arbitrator was already dead or they had to surrender and become a soldier. For the sake of the judge/mayor, Shorette hoped it was the latter.
"Alright... we're going to levitate our way down near that pile of stone. We can safely hide behind it and see who we have to take out from there, if the option ever rises." Yoguri instructed. So the soldier knew ki and how to utilize it to fly. As effective as the plan was, there was only one problem: Shorette wasn't fortunate to learn to utilize her ki to fly efficiently asides from levitate off of the ground just a couple of feet. It's an effective party trick for those unfamiliar with the concept, but very much useless in situations like this.
Shorette sucked her teeth in a form of a wince as she slowly turned her head to Yoguri. "Yeah.... about that... uh... I can't fly. That well, at least." She admitted.
"Wait, what? But you're a treasure hunter, are you not? Flying makes your job 100 times easier." Yoguri countered, at complete disbelief.
"Bold of you to assume that I don't know my way around without the use of flying. That wouldn't make me an efficient treasure hunter if I don't have other ways of traveling now, would it?" Shorette said.
Yoguri sighed and eventually nodded in understanding. "Fine, we'll climb down. I'm climbing down with you, just to watch your back in case anything goes wrong." She said.
Shorette couldn't help but smirk at the gesture. "My hero." She teased.
"Piss off." Yoguri snarled.
Shorette's eyebrows raised in amusement. "My anti-hero." She teased again. Before Yoguri could get another word in, Shorette walked over to a layer of pillars and edges that are climbable. Looking back at the soldier, she nudged her head at the layers below her. "Let's get to it, shall we?"

Chapter 2: Revelation revelation: the making known of something that was previously secret or unknown. The pair began to swiftly climb their way down to Nifara. In just a matter of a few seconds, the two arrived behind the pile of stone as instructed by Yoguri. The women crouched down to conceal their identity, the soldier peeking her head up ever so slightly to see what the soldiers were doing. With a closer view, Yoguri noticed something odd. "What the hell...?" She whispered to herself, but loud enough for Shorette to pick up. Joining the soldier, the young woman peeked over the pile of stones to witness what Yoguri saw. That was when she noticed multiple soldiers carrying out boxes of various equipment, weaponry, gadgets, and important documents. "Looks like they're making another move." Shorette guessed. It looked as though they were cleaning out their base, but the question was why? Yoguri already mentioned that some of the guards temporarily move out, but more of them moving out than planned was something that threw a wrench in their plans. However, perhaps not all was bad. If the camp was being left alone, then it would be easier to get Ittar's Vision, right? Wait, no. It's more than likely that they, of course, took the artifact with them too. This was definitely an inconvenience for the two. "Seems a bit unusual." She pointed out. Yoguri shook her head and growled to herself in frustration. "Unusual isn't the word I'd use. This means we have to move our asses faster to the office if we want to get Ittar's Vision on time before we lose it. Come on." She said. Strange how fate worked; just a few moments ago, Shorette questioned Yoguri's reason in hesitating to get the artifact back after learning the soldiers' schedule. The soldier's own reasoning was because she feared of always striking at the wrong time. And here they were now, striking at the wrong time. The only difference was the two could only hope the artifact didn't leave the base. Crouched down and sneaking out of cover, Yoguri hid behind a building pillar that was a couple of feet away from their original hiding spot, Shorette following suit on the opposite pillar across from the one the soldier hid behind. Not too far off in front of them, they spotted two soldiers carrying out two large boxes. There, the two women were able to pick up a conversation that continued when they reached outside. "You know... it's still insane for Fizzy to order us to blow up Nifara. You'd think with how hidden this place is, this is the perfect place to have our camp." The first soldier admitted. Upon hearing the discovery, Shorette and Yoguri shot looks of horror at each other. No, they must've heard wrong. Nifara was not going out with a bang... was it? Something so sacred and significant to those that lived in it alongside have a lineage here, no one could be so cruel to destroy it all... right? The second soldier shrugged her shoulder and responded casually. "Eh... I mean Tofuu was the one that relayed the message to Fizzy... then Fizzy told us the news. I mean, look at this place. It's barely sustainable! It's only a matter of time before shit starts to fall on us and we'd be buried in rubble. I don't know about you, but I'd like my body not to be flattened like a pancake. I'm already flat as is." The joke at the end caused the two soldiers to cackle out loud as they made their way forward, eventually their conversation leaving the two women's hearing range. "And just who the hell is Fizzy?" Shorette asked. Yoguri shook her head in disbelief. "Don't care. They're... they're going to blow up Nifara!" She quietly exclaimed. "Well... there goes my notes and hopes in continuing my father's project." Shorette sighed. The soldier threw a menacing look at Shorette's direction, almost a sneer expression on her face. "My damn home is about to be reduced to nothing but pebbles and all you care about is your damn little homework?!" She hissed. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! I didn't say I'd leave. I'm already deep in this with you, so I might as well tag along until the very end. Even though I've strictly said so, you can say my kindness took over." Now wasn't the best time for banter on Shorette's in, and although she may not be able to complete her father's project, she now had a new goal in mind: help Yoguri get back Ittar's Vision... and to take down Tofoo. It was clear that Tofoo had no regard to those around him and marks that were ancient, sacred even. Quickly switching the topic, Shorette continued. "Now we have a new goal in mind in addition to getting the goddess's vision back; track down Tofoo. It's more than likely he must've bailed long before this little plan he had was carried in action." She recommended. "That... and it's very possible he took the artifact with him." It was an uncomfortable possibility that held more truth than the idea of such a sacred possession being held at a doomed location. And just from Yoguri's reaction alone, she was in denial. "Bullshit... bullshit! There's... there's no way!" Angered, she slammed her fist into the pillar to release her frustration. A small sound of impact was made, loud for Shorette to hear it from across with little to no issue. "Hey, hey! Could we be less pissy now and you can be more pissy later when we piss off out of here?" Shorette scolded. The woman just knew she eventually had to take control, but it was only a matter of when. "Let's go take out those two soldiers and see what they know. From there, we can see about tracking down Tofoo... and this 'Fizzy' character. If I had to guess... they must be second in command in all of this. You take the soldier on the far left, I'll take the one that's closer to me." She suggested. Shorette could tell Yoguri wasn't pleased with the woman taking control, but the soldier also recognized she has no choice. "Fine. On your command, then."

Still crouched, Shorette nodded at Yorugi as a signal for the soldier to follow suit. As soon as they were close right behind their targeted soldiers, Shorette quickly stood up and wrapped both arms around the female soldier, applying pressure on her neck as means to choke her out. The female soldier immediately dropped the box she held and patted at Shorette's arms. With just enough pressure, the female soldier eventually passed out from the lack of oxygen from the choke. "Good girl... gooood girl." The young woman whispered in a comforting tone as she gently laid the female soldier down. Yoguri, on the other hand, had a different idea in mind compared to what Shorette did.
Yoguri did the same as she sprung up and wrapped an arm around the male soldier's neck, catching him off guard as it was then his turn to drop the box he carried. However, her other hand reached for her waistband and pulled out a pistol with a silencer. Just as Shorette looked over at Yoguri to see how she fared, that was when she spotted the gun. In one quick motion, she witnessed the soldier hold the barrel next to his temple. Shorette's eyes went wide as she realized what the former soldier was going to do. "Wait! WAIT! YOGURI! NO!" She whispered in desperation, but it was too late. The trigger was already pulled and the bullet easily pierced through the man's skull from one side and exited through the other. Blood immediately spurred from his head, all over Yoguri and eventually to the ground as his corpse was dropped to the ground.
Shorette only stared at the corpse, his own blood forming a pool around it. She shook her head in disbelief, but reality was slowly bringing her back. Damn it, they weren't supposed to kill anyone! At least... not yet. they had the advantage of stealth, so there was no reason for them to take a life so soon. Shorette was about to protest, but held her tongue as she watched the soldier. "...Shit." Yoguri was on a revenge trip, so regardless of what the young woman was going to say to her, nothing productive was going to come out of it. On the slightly brighter side, she still had the unconscious soldier alive. That was when she noticed Yoguri aim her gun at the female soldier, to which the young woman quickly stepped in front of Yoguri to prevent her from pulling the trigger. "Don't. You. Dare." Her tone was threatening, almost daring Yoguri to pull the trigger.
Yoguri returned the same stare given to her with a sneer of her own. "You never said they had to be alive. Besides, this whole place is about to blow. Does it really matter if they die or not?" She asked.
"If we want answers as to what the hell's going on, absolutely." Shorette argued. As if on cue, the transceiver on the deceased female soldier echoed static.
"Fizzy to Ranger. Did you pack up those weapons and loaded them onto the truck with Panther?" A female voice chimed in through the comms. Yoguri and Shorette both shared a look of shock as they heard the voice of who seemed to be the second in command. Now that the young woman thought about it, Yoguri never mentioned anything about a second in command. She may not even knew about her. Shorette reached for the transceiver and pressed the button to answer before Yoguri had any time to react.
"Ranger's taking a quick nap. Panther, on the other hand..." Shorette went quiet as her eyes laid back on his body before she spoke again. "He's taking a permanent nap." She informed.
"Well well, that doesn't sound too good for us." The female voice, presumably Fizzy, responded. She was calm. Too calm, Shorette would say.
"Not as good as a bunch of upstanding citizens getting caught in a potential explosion of Nifara either." Shorette retorted.
"Alright, enough with these damn games!" Yoguri snatched the transceiver from Shorette and shoved it right in her face to yell out. "Where the hell is Ittar's Vision?! Why the hell are you blowing up Nifara?! WHO ARE YOU? WHERE THE HELL IS TOFOO?!" She yelled.
"Listen ladies, as much as I'd love to answer your questions... I have a demolition to carry out. So if you don't mind..."
