It wasn't very often that Athren took the time out of his schedule to do absolutely nothing but it had now been long overdue. Even if he hadn't been training very much lately for himself, the duties he had given himself with the village and training others did take up a vast majority of his time. He often didn't find that he had enough time for himself but he was quite used to it already. Even though it was something that he was well adapted too now, he knew that he'd need a moment of peace and quiet for himself and what better day to take it than a day like today? It was nearly five in the afternoon, the sun had been out and it was a bright warm day and Athren would've used this perfect day to get some relaxing in.
The location of choice was just outside the village near one of the walked trails that led into it. The trail was dirt and simply formed by the traffic of people that had used it. Athren had been just outside of range to be seen from the village but close enough that he could hear the louder people when they were yelling out of excitement of joy. He was laying on his back in the grass at the edge of the river, his ocean blue eyes starring up at the sky as his head rested on the hands that were folded behind his head. It was truly a moment of peace and one that Athren was very much enjoying.
If anybody were to come along to look for him, the townsfolk would know which way to point them in but the townsfolk had also respected him enough to leave him be. It was only important business that would be directed towards Athren. Though if anybody were to come along, they'd be very luck to catch him at a time like this for it wasn't very often he let his guard down in such a way that even his attitude and demeanor were calm. He was truly at peace, thinking about his life and all the steps he took to get where he was today. Hell, a part of him couldn't even believe where he had ended up and just over a year ago, this would've been a situation he would've laughed at.
His life may had taken him in a completely different direction than he had expected but he welcomed it at this point. It was odd how much the Earth had changed him for it was unlike any other planet he had ever been on. It was peaceful for the most part with a population of people that weren't overly violent. It was calming and it had it's charm and maybe it was purely responsible for how Athren's attitudes had changed. It was also a wonderful place for his kids to grow and though he wished he was apart of their life, he was more than happy that they'd grow up here.
His eyes closed, almost as if he was going to take a nap but instead, he simply relaxed as his ki senses worked around him sensing everything going on.

The odds of Shorette's home being raided by relentless meatheads that are called thugs for recovering an important item they stole to its rightful owner was always high. The odds of said odds happening was always low, or at least that was what the young woman initially and foolishly thought. Sacrifices were made as a means for her to continue her father's legacy, yet luxury was a higher priority to maintain when it came to living comfortably. Albeit her survivor attitude was always on the forefront of her overall identity, she couldn't give up the wealthy life. In a sense, she was spoiled from beginning to end. That wasn't to discredit that she can handle harsher and more unforgiving conditions, but it was her way of treating herself well; having her cake and eating it too, in a way.
Now here she was, chased out of her own home due to being outnumbered, with nothing but the scrapped clothes she wore and the remaining dignity she had whilst she dragged herself along the trail. Everything she built, the artifacts she collected, the wealth she accumulated, the progression of honoring her father's legacy, all gone within a couple of minutes from a regrettable attitude of being so in her head, especially since she was more than aware of her limitations. The fancy lifestyle got into her head too well. She felt like an idiot. No, she was an idiot.
Each step taken was complemented with a stifled grunt, an attempt to maintain herself from losing all sense of control and fall into agonizing screams. Her body was riddled with soreness and pain as a result from fending off the thugs that raided her home. A white hoodie that had a few scratches and blood stains splattered all over, black shorts that are near her knees that met the same fate whilst highlighting the various bruises marked on her legs, and a black and white converse shoe missing on her right food. The young woman was a mess and she was on the run.
Shorette only wandered around aimlessly, her mental state not 100% present. She was most likely still dazed from the sudden confrontation. Her main goal was to run, but there was nothing else after that. She needed to get away, though the problem of a new location to be stationed in remained. That was all she could do for now, to continue to be on the run. "Damn it!" A cuss hissed to herself while her left leg gave out, causing her to kneel on her right leg. Her eyes were shut in pain, teeth gritted in endurance as she tried her best to pick herself back up and resume her journey to... whatever.
The young woman weakly looked up what was ahead of her, spotting a lively village just not too far from where she kneeled. The village looked familiar, or rather it was something that she's seen and heard about dozens of times, but not enough for her to fight through the pain to try and remember. Fatigue grew quicker by the minute. Her eyelids felt heavy and her body loose. Shit, she was slowly losing consciousness. "No... N-No..." She struggled to stand back up, only for her to eventually collapse altogether on the ground. That was her vision's cue to fade out and all sense of active awareness were drowned.
However, the last thing she saw were two young men that appeared to return from a fishing trip discovered the fallen Shorette, their moods transitioning from lively to panic in a matter of seconds. It was at that moment she was no longer conscience, but the two young men did all they could to help the young woman as they picked her up and rushed into the village, yelling in alarm to get her help as quickly as she could get it.

While Athren thought it was going to be a peaceful day for him, it appeared by the sounds of the calls for help in the village that he was far from being right. While he enjoyed having a village and took his duties very seriously, sometimes he wished that he'd just have a moment of peace and quiet to himself. Once Athren had heard the calls for help he didn't waste anytime, he quickly opened his eyes and stood up straight and within an instant he had found himself in the town center where all the commotion was. Of course, his instant transmission was used to cover the distance so rapidly. The crowd that had gathered around the woman had been starring. Few who knew how to help were trying their best to investigate the level of her injuries in order to patch them up while most simply just spectated. Though some eyes that had caught Athren arrive called out. "Athren! She was walking in towards the village and just collapsed! She looks like she got ambushed or something..!" It was at this point he walked through the circle of people surrounding the woman in order to get involved in the situation. He still wasn't quite sure what he was dealing with but it had seemed rather important. Entering the middle of the circle, his ocean blue eyes would've rested on the woman and the closest thing the village had to a doctor trying to help her out. "Anything fatal?" The healer would've glared over to Athren and gave a very straight answer. "Not that I can tell but she's in need of immediate care." The healers eyes would've been full of concern. This was the first time something like this happened within the village. Usually it was so far off the beaten path that these scenario's had missed the the town. It was at this point nodded his head and walked over. He picked the woman up in a cradle carry. "I've got it from here." Using his instant transmission once more, Athren would've appeared in one of the spare rooms in the upper level of his house. His house was rather old fashioned, any source of light was produced by flame and lantern and the heating was done by fireplaces. Once he got her into the room, he'd place her down gently on the bed. He wasn't going to investigate her further for injuries but he did have a plan. He didn't think it was severe enough to go through his supply of Senzu beans but he did have a specific technique that would allow him to bring back the recently deceased. Of course, this technique used energy he beat out of somebody but he wondered if he could use his own to at least bring the woman back to consciousness. If he could wake her, he could know exactly what he was dealing with simply by asking questions. He'd much rather that method anyway. He'd place his one hand on the center of his chest and close his eyes and focus. He hadn't used this technique before and had only used it during training but even then, it was much different. He used his Spirit Control technique to pass some of his own energy into her in hopes that it would be more than enough to bring her back to the land of the conscious and have her feeling somewhat energized. Once that was done, Athren would be more than happy to do his best to tend to her wounds. He would observe her carefully, removing his hand from her chest the moment that the technique was done. He'd wait for any signs of life and once she was awake he'd speak. "My first and most important question, do you have any serious wounds I need to know about?"
Her injuries were now his priority.

Shorette's eyes unhurriedly fluttered open as her conscience miraculously returned. "Aghh... son of a..." A pained but restrained groan echoed in her throat while she tried to figure out what happened before she passed out, or rather, figure out what happened after that. The last thing she remembered was two men coming to her aid and the rest was just a fuzzy memory. She didn't know how long she was out for, but one silver lining throughout all of this so far was the pain lessening ever so slightly compared to before. The young woman flatted her hand against her temple to help ease the headache that now pounded on the side of her head.
Now that she regained consciousness, there was a new problem on her hands: where the hell she was. As her memory served her correctly in the two men rushing to Shorette's aid in extreme concern, that didn't eliminate any sort of suspicions she had regardless of the level of disturb displayed from the men. For all she knew, she was taken advantage from her injured state and brought into captive as a result. She'd be damned for her home to be invaded and run away, only for her to possibly run into the same group that took everything from her and roughened her up.
But as she surveyed the area, the general appearance of the room was quaint. Too quaint. Then again, this could've been seized by the same thugs and the interior design has yet to meet a fate of being ruined. At the same time, however, Shorette took a quick peak outside and saw villagers strolling around the village, carrying out whatever routine they've planned for the day. Not a single rifleman or goon in sight. She didn't spot any station built or any presence left behind from a potential gang. Regardless, she wasn't ready to let her guard down just yet. Things may seem normal, but her survival attitude left her on edge, especially when she's yet to familiarize herself in where she was.
A voice spoke out to her in relation other potential injuries she collected, though that resulted Shorette being spooked as she shot right up from bed. Her head immediately snapped to where she heard the voice, eyes wide open in alert. She might still be in pain, but she refused to go down without a fight. There, she saw a man standing before the bed she laid on. Instead of being met with a threat, she was met with worry for any other wounds she may have. That was when she started to register not just his words, but the situation in general. He wanted to help. The two men that picked her up wanted to help. She was in no sort of danger at all.
However, Shorette's guard still remained. "Unless you count my pride being broken into a million pieces and my dignity down the drain, then no, I don't think I have anything life threatening." Shorette reluctantly answered. "The only serious wound I have is losing one of my favorite sneakers, as you can see. Costed quite a lot, too." She sighed and wiggled her exposed foot in bed; an empty laugh emitted while she looked outside.
"If you don't mind me asking, where am I? I think I have a feeling I know, but this headache is getting the best of me right now."

When she had first awoken it was clear that she had been in some sort of state of concern, but Athren couldn't blame her for that. Whatever she had been through had appeared to be rough, he expected her fight or flight response to still be at play and for her to question nearly everything. After all, she did just wake up in a very strange place after having experienced a terrible situation. Though she was worried, he was going to do the best he could to calm her down and reassure her that everything was going to be alright. He wasn't going to hurt her and the truth was, she may have very well been on the safest place the planet currently had to offer due to one simple fact, Athren hadn't sensed anybody on the planet as strong as him, to his knowledge, he was currently Earth's strongest fighter and she had fallen under his protection for the meantime.
He remained quiet at first, he didn't want to overwhelm her so he simply observed as she looked out the window and took in all of her surroundings. Surely, this was the best thing for her. If she saw what kind of community she had found herself in, maybe she'd find some sort of ease through all her suffering. Perhaps the village would be more than enough to make her feel safe, comfortable and find a way to relax her from her heightened state.
When she had finally turned her attention to him, she spoke and he listened carefully. It seemed that even though she had just went through something terrible, she still had somewhat of a sense of humor. She had been through something big and her shoe had been a point of interest? Something that had seemed to matter to the point of mention? Athren couldn't help but smirk and shake his head lightly, he almost found himself letting out at light chuckle but he didn't feel it appropriate.
"Well, As far as your pride and your dignity go, That's something you're going to need to find a way to fix up yourself and trust me when I say this, we've all been there."
Of course Athren would reflect on the worst moment of his life, the moment his own pride and dignity had been taken away from him by force as he was to weak to stop an attacker and lost his entire life. He had failed to stop the threat and was forced to watch his children be slaughtered in front of him as the corpses of his entire crew laid lifeless behind them. The only reason he had survived was the sacrifice of a friend, one who he still had to bring back. If he could move forward past that, surely she could find a way to move forward herself.
"As far as your outfit goes.."
He'd hover his hand over her feet, using his magic materialization technique to give her a fresh new pair of shoes that matched the one shoe that remained solo on her foot. He'd also hover his hand over her body as he made his way up to her torso, replacing any damaged and stained clothing with a fresh new set that matched her former attire.
"That's an easy fix."
He said with a reassuring smile before getting down to her question. Of course he didn't mind her asking, after all she was in a strange place. If anything, it would've been much stranger if she had just accepted the fact that she was somewhere she didn't know. It was at this point that he walked over to one of the chairs in the room and picked it up to bring closer to the bed, he set it down before taking a seat close to her. His ocean blue eyes locking onto her own as he explained her location.
"You're in a village called Crimson Rivers near Mount Paozu and this is my house. You'll be quite safe here. Though, I've got a question of my own. What happened to you?"

Dignity and pride being something that has to be fixed up on her own? If only he knew the amount of times those two traits been shattered throughout the course of Shorette being both a treasure hunter and an archeologist. She knew the risks and took them anyway as a way to continue her father's legacy in addition to creating her own. "And some of us shamelessly visit there more than we'd like to admit." She added, this time huffing a chuckle of her own, albeit very empty. As expected throughout the hardships she endured, she had no regret in getting into this type of line of work. If it meant fulfilling both her father's legacy and her own, then she would do whatever it took to bring more ancient knowledge for the world to learn.
Shorette subtly jerked back as she watched the man hover his hand all over her body. What in the shit was this man trying to do? She was prepared for the leg that was missing its expensive sneaker to launch straight at his hand to knock it away, but instead it appeared as though he... magically fixed her attire? "...What in the shit?" Her thought was vocalized into a whisper to herself. The sneaker that she lost appeared right before her eyes, her ragged clothes appeared to be brand new, never touched or altered in any way. Even the white hat she lost during her escape was back on her chest.
The young woman began to gently rub her hands all over her outfit, feeling the fabric. It felt exactly like the original. Nothing changed. Shorette was colored impressed, as a matter of fact. "Hm... fabric feels a little cheap, and the sneaker is just a quarter shade lighter than the original, but I'll give you a B+ for effort." She joked, her verbal form of gratitude different from how she felt internally. Still, Shorette was thankful that she no longer looked like she barely escaped with her life, even if that was exactly what happened.
"Crimsons River... right, I think I might actually know this place. I'll take your word that I'll be safe. If I die, though, I'll be sure to haunt you in your sleep every night." "Know" may not be the right word, but she's heard of the location a couple of times. She may also passed this village here and there plenty of times, but she's never had the chance to actually pay a visit. Not that it was in her plan at all, but her curiosity always led her to wonder what the village life was like in contrast to someone who's always lived the bustling city life. What she didn't expect at all was to be in someone's house under rather informal care in an apparent vintage house than somewhere more modern like a hospital.
Shorette huffed a dramatic sigh as she looked out the window once more. "Simple. I take back from something that didn't belong to a group of people. Said group of people come after me with guns and ambush me in my own home. I barely escaped. I wander around aimlessly for hours on end until I pass out. Then here I am, on your bed, in your house, in Crimsons River. Eventful, isn't it?" She explained. She didn't go too much into detail, only the basics of what happened and how she came into such a state.
"In short, I'm now a homeless little girl who's going to have to adapt to the wildlife. Get used to eating insects... bathe in lakes... mayhaps switch over to making clothes of of leaves and sticks." Even when her situation was far from okay or improving for the time being, Shorette always kept a comical aspect when things looked dire for the young woman. She always kept her head high, but some would call it a way for her to cope.

When it came down to dignity and pride being shattered and being there more than they'd like to admit, wasn't it like that for everybody? The thing was, when you were in that position you felt like you were different, like the worst happened to you the most frequently. Meanwhile, you truly didn't know how often others had been experiencing it. Athren himself knew that his pride and dignity had been shattered more times than he'd like to admit but that was part of his past, it made him who he was today and there was no shame in that. Sure, some lessons were much harder than others to cope with or understand but that's just the way the universe worked.
"Whether you like to admit it or not, aren't those moments our defining ones? The moments that shape us into who we are? I've had my fair share of lows, but in a way.. I wouldn't change how anything went down."
It was strange for him to say that aloud. After all, his lowest moments were when his children died in front of him. It was something he'd never wish to relive or see again but he did manage to rectify it on Cereal with the Dragon Balls. He had managed to make most of that situation better and bring his children back to life but that didn't mean that it still wasn't a bad blow at the time and that moment was the defining moment of his life. It had set him on a new path, one that wouldn't cause massive death or destruction, it was a path that led him here and here wasn't a very bad place at all.
It had appeared that Athren's magic materialization had caught her by surprise, he couldn't help but catch the low whisper of words she had delivered. It had been more than enough to but a little smirk on his face. It wasn't often that he used his magic in the presents of a stranger but it was well suited to assist her with some of her needs. Though what he didn't expect was the level of gratitude shown. Of course she couldn't just say thank you, she had to make a smart remark about it but Athren really didn't mind at all. In fact, he almost found her joking attitude rather attractive in the situation. He couldn't help but snicker at her comment, only to retort.
"I'll tell you what, if you find yourself in the same situation. Next time I'll get it perfect. Yeah?"
When she had mentioned that she might've known the place, it didn't exactly catch him by surprise. If she had been out here wounded, she couldn't have come from too far away. This had put her own home within the region. What did surprise him though was the fact that she had to take his word that she'd be safe. It was pretty evident that she wasn't watching the news a few months back, while Athren didn't wish to be the star of the television he knew that his image had gotten around. Even if South City was under attack, there was plenty of people who managed to film and take pictures of the events. When she had mentioned the haunting, he couldn't help but roll his eyes.
"I'd hate to ruin your fun but you wouldn't have the chance to haunt me if you died during your stay here. If you're dead, that means I died first."
He shrugged his shoulders at this point. It was just the way it was going to go. Sure, she was just being light hearted and playing around but he felt like this may really make it sink in that she was safe. This was his village, he built it from the ground up and really liked the people. If anybody were to cause trouble here or try to hurt anybody, he'd be the first one in line to go through. It was just how it was going to be. It was at this point that he listened to her explain how she had gotten into her situation and it didn't sound pleasant. She may have lost some stuff but at least she was alive.
"Well, It could've been worse. At least you're alive and in short, you've got countless rooms to choose from in this house or there's still some vacant houses in the town to pick from. We've got plenty of food, clothes and everything you need to get back on your feet. Though you might still be bathing in the river."
While they place did have tubs, the lack of electricity made it a pain to get the water up to a comfortable temperature. The river was just the easiest way. Whether or not she stayed wouldn't bother him, the choice was hers and she could stay as long as she needed too. If she stayed though, maybe some training was in order? After all, he could sense that she was far above average for a human. There might've been something there to unlock.

It looked like someone was getting a little philosophical, something Shorette often mentally rolled her eyes all the way to the back of her head. It didn't matter if an event made someone. In her point of view, there was no point in sitting in hypotheticals and someone announcing they wouldn't change a single thing in their past. That was when the young woman decided to vocalize her thoughts. "Defining, memorable, call it whatever you want. It all doesn't matter. The past happened, you can't go back to it, so there's no use in sentiments like 'I wouldn't change one thing about it'." A pessimistic outlook on a subject like this, but it was what helped Shorette clear her mind from regret and live without it.
Before, she had a lot of regrets. There were many events that Shorette wished she could go back and change. Things would've worked out differently if she never tried to follow her father's footsteps and uphold his legacy while trying to make her own. For all she knew, he could've still been alive if not for the hypothetical lack of interest she had in continuing what her father started. She'd dream of changing such events, but the harsh reality was she had to sit there and live with what happened. That was when Shorette swore to live without regrets rather than acknowledging them for what they were, even if she'd ever mention she wouldn't change a thing about what happened. Everything she does, she meant it. No second thoughts, no looking back.
"Hmm." Shorette contemplated on the offer of staying in the village to help her get back on track. Free housing and food sounded tempting, but bathing in the river was what she hoped to be the joke. Turns out it wasn't, and it was the one thing that tempted her to pull out. "Staying here for free and getting free food sounds like a delight," She started off her sentence while she placed both hands behind her and leaned back. "But you've managed to fix up my clothes. You couldn't use your magic man powers to try and create some electrical posts for indoor plumbing?" She asked, half joking half serious.
But was it worth staying if it meant trouble finding her here, where the majority of the population aren't fighters? Granted, Shorette wasn't familiar with the usage of... what was it called? Ki? Kai? Whatever, it was the energy stuff that she never bothered to learn, though not out of ignorance or stubbornness. Being a plain human was what she was best at. Things may be easier if she learned ki more proficiently. After all, she has some knowledge in flight, but at best the only thing she could do was to levitate off the ground a couple feet into the air. Regardless, Shorette didn't think it was worth the risk of innocent people with her line of work, or just the population in general of causing a disturbance.
"As much as I'd love to take up your offer, my line of work involves trouble always managing to find me, as I've told you what generally happened to me. Sure, you're probably all strong and such where you get to play protector of the village," Due to how often Shorette is always out in the wilderness and rarely ever in any city or town, she's very much in the dark of current events. As long she still had her brain in tact to her skull and not on the brink of death, she doesn't care too much unless she's somehow caught up in it. "But I'd rather not get everyone else wrapped up in the constant marvelous bullshit that is part of the treasure hunting life... slash archaeologist." She casually revealed her profession, but this alternative was better than trying to hide it since, as mentioned not too long ago, her profession always brought trouble no matter where she went.
Yet in the end, all Shorette could do was shrug it off and accept it. "But hey, lack of in door plumbing aside, I'd be insane to turn down your offer. So color me interested, I can stay a couple of days... weeks... maybe months at latest. At least until I have a solid plan and what to do once I'm fully recovered and more prepared for what's coming my way. Maybe brush up on my skills and attributes of the sort, or whatever." She said.
This was a process she couldn't rush. As expected, though, she was still going to continue her line of work, she just had to be a lot more discreet with covering up her tracks so she wouldn't bait potential danger back to the village.

It appeared she wasn't exactly one to buy into his worlds but that was fine, he wasn't trying to pressure his point of view on her but he thought it was at least worth the mention. He might've not had the exact same experience as she did but he did have those moments that had brought him to the lowest point and he did believe genuinely that his words might've helped ease her mind but it didn't seem like she had the same point of view. This was absolutely fine and something he wouldn't argue with. If her mindset had been more than enough to get her through, that was more than good enough. It was somewhat difficult having a discussion with the woman simply because this was the first meeting between them and the circumstances weren't something Athren had been accustomed too. If they had met on a battlefield or somewhere else, it may have been more natural to him but all he could do was try his best.
"Fair enough, at least you've got something to get you through. I sure as hell didn't."
Of course, she didn't know about his former situation but when he hit his low there was nothing there to help him. He wasn't thinking about things in a positive way nor did he think any good come from it. He had truly been at rock bottom and it wasn't until his trip to Yardrat that he had managed to sort himself out and that was only because the help of another. Without the help of Pybara, Athren very well might've been walking a different path, one where his negative emotions got to get out of control and dictate his life. While he was happy it didn't come to that, it was a very fine line he was walking before his breakthrough.
With the topic of her staying within the village going on. While the positives were free housing and food, there had been some downsides and she had made a comment that made Athren snicker ever so slightly. Why didn't he use his magic man powers to complete this village with electricity? Well, it was a very simple answer that he assumed most people wouldn't understand but he was going to tell it to her. Whether she laughed in his face or had some over the top reaction didn't really matter, this village was exactly what he needed, the peace, the quiet and just the way it ran was perfect to him in every way.
"I most likely could've but the truth is, I wanted a much simpler life. I wanted a place that didn't attract a mass crowd. I wanted a place to house those who needed it while also providing a lifestyle that was much more slow pace and peaceful. You won't find Zeni being spent here, people simply work their trades and talents and trade and if they're lacking in necessities and food, I help out to make sure everybody's got what they need."
He listened to her as she explained her concerns with danger. It was very obvious that she truly had no idea about who was at the South City battle. Athren hadn't been worried about anybody coming in to cause trouble, his only concern was her. As long as she didn't cause any trouble or try to steal anything from the townsfolk, there would be no issue. He knew what his town looked like to outsiders, it was likely a very easy place to loot and pillage. It was really only a matter of time until somebody tried it and whether her actions outside of the village got the attention of others wasn't really a concern.
"As long as you're not the one causing trouble, we'll have no issues. I can handle anybody that comes to the village looking for trouble, even if they're looking for you and if you'd like, We can train together so you can handle it too."
This wasn't exactly an offer Athren gave to everybody, he currently had three people he was training. Opherla, Gemikai and Pran and all of them had good intentions and wanted to protect the Earth and in this case while he couldn't determine ... her intentions, but what bad could come from training her to defend herself? If her line of work got her in that much trouble, it wouldn't be harmful to put her into a position to defend herself.
With the offer finally being accepted, Athren couldn't help but give her a friendly smile. They'd sort out exactly where she was going to stay shortly but for now that wasn't much of a concern for there was lots of room, but he did want to know her name. "What's your name anyway? I'm Athren." Of course, his tail would've swayed behind him lightly at a higher position. It wasn't due to excitement or anything, just simply making himself comfortable. Whether or not she had known of the saiyans might've been discovered shortly.

The simpler life... Shorette was a fan of anything but living simple. Maybe because most, if not almost all the time, she's always in the wilderness for her gigs, her appreciation for modernity and gratefulness for technology in general is at an all time high. She may be someone who doesn't mind being one with nature and living out in the wild for as long as she could, but perhaps her wealthy lifestyle made her somewhat of a spoiled little kid for materialism. Considering the fact that it was all already taken from her anyway and forced her to relocate for the time being, this may as well be a humbling experience from the young woman.
"Slow pace and peaceful." Shorette repeated, two things she's not used to in her profession. It was all but the very two things most people would want in their lives. For her? Not so much. She was used to being on the run, living life on the edge, and it helped give her a new perspective on how she handled potentially calamitous situations. "Right. I think I can manage." She confirmed before she heavily exhaled through her nose, a sigh to herself. It did sound relaxing, to just take a step back and take the time she needed to recover completely and make sure she's prepared for whatever came next.
Shorette shook her head at the idea of her being the cause of trouble. She'd be lying if she made the promise that she'd do no such thing, but the difference was doing so wouldn't be intentional. That, or maybe from her perspective, she didn't view herself as the one causing trouble. For those that encountered and confronted the young woman may say otherwise. It was all in the name of gaining and spreading knowledge, to continue her father's legacy as well as creating her own. That, and, well, making a lot of money in the process. How else would she uphold her expensive yet hazardous way of living?
"Well, I may be the one to cause trouble, but for good reasons. I know better than to bring said danger to the village to the best of my ability. The most I can do is cover up my tracks better, that much I can swear on." She couldn't lie. Shorette was very good at covering up her tracks on gigs. The only reason why she was ambushed and fled from her now former home was she's gotten careless. The one time she was distracted was the only time she almost undergone a near death experience. Never again, she'd say to herself. Shorette was a professional, and she needed to act like one... or a better professional, to be more specific.
Another offer was thrown on the table, this time to train with the man for her to get stronger. Almost with a disgruntled look on her face, acting out offended, Shorette dramatically placed a hand on the left side of her upper chest with an affronted gasp. Did he just imply that she couldn't handle danger? How rude! "I will have you know I can handle danger quite well, sir. To even think I can't handle it is shameful! If I couldn't, I wouldn't be even close to doing my job. I'm only like this because the jump was on me and it's usually the other way around!" All just a jest, Shorette removed her hand from her chest and placed it back down to her side. "Well like I said, I do need to brush up a bit on my skills, so it wouldn't hurt to train." She accepted the offer. She needed all the help she could get, as much as it hurt her pride.
Given a smile, Shorette displayed a friendly one of her own in return, until she was given his name did it slightly falter. "Athren, huh?" Shorette was left in contemplation. Athren. Where the hell did she heard that name before? With how often she often left modern civilization for abandoned ones in her line of work, the young woman hasn't exactly kept herself up to date or at least not cared enough if it didn't exactly have a major impact on her. With how diverse this planet became, humans aren't the only ones causing mass destruction, if not rarely ever caused mass destruction compared to other species that resided on the planet. That was when she spotted a tail swayed behind him, and it was a tail she saw countless times. If memory served her correctly, it was a Saiyan tail.
"Hmm... right." was all Shorette could said, expression unreadable. Her experience with Saiyans in the past weren't exactly pleasant or a type she'd like to run into every now and then. Humans, of course, were no better in her line of work, but with these kinds of races, she's always found herself with the more savage ones who's adapted a little too well into the criminal world that humans created on Earth. This one, however, didn't seem to be like the ones that Shorette encountered. At least for now, for all she knew. "Shorette. But you can call me Shore, if you'd like." She offered a nickname in the event Athren wanted something shorter to call her by.
"Now speaking of housing, where can you put little ol' me?" Shorette asked. "And uh... where exactly can I grab something to bite? All that walking around mindlessly and passing out took a small toll on my appetite."

With the way she repeated his words, it seemed almost as if slow and peaceful weren't her style and this would take some getting used to. Of course Athren couldn't blame her, he didn't just adapt to Earth quickly. It took him nearly a year to grow accustomed to the Earth in general and while he still avoids the busy areas and the cities as much as he can, he found himself able to call the Earth his home and while it was a big change from his former life, it was something he could accept. On the bright side though, she thought she could manage and that made Athren smirk. It wasn't an easy transition and maybe she was underestimating it.
He had hoped that she would become a valuable part of this village, it was obvious that she had a specific set of skills that the village lacked and maybe they could be of use and with her fighting potential that Athren could feel from her power level, maybe she'd make a good defender of the village as well. He was even thinking that maybe someday, she'd be in a place to protect the Earth but he needed to try and hit that route through baby steps. First, he'd have to see if she could even handle his training sessions and second, he'd have to see if she was interested. Though something about her had struck him that she was the self oriented type, it didn't seem like she would go out of her way to help others without some resistance. Though that didn't matter for now, for now he primarily just wanted her to settle in and relax.
When it came to the subject of trouble, she had admit that she may be one to cause it. The biggest concern here was that it didn't come back to the village. The people simply couldn't afford that type of thing, nor where they strong enough to defend themselves. While Athren was here to protect them and was confident he could do so, he didn't want the people fearing the next attack or being weary of what was to come next because once this peaceful place got attacked once, the entire view of the village may shift and that was something he didn't want to happen.
"As long as you can keep your word and not bring trouble here, we're good. If you slip up, I can handle it but if you start slipping up again and again, we'll need to do something about it. Though, If I'm being honest. By the end of it, you'll be ready to actually handle almost anything that this planet can throw at you."
It seemed like his comment in regards to her handling danger was taken the wrong way but the fact of the matter was she had found herself in this situation because she couldn't. If you needed the jump on somebody to handle the situation you found yourself in, the fact was that you weren't prepared and this was something she needed to hear. Once more, Athren's ocean blues went to meet her own gaze. He was going to be brutally honest.
"Handling danger and handling yourself in a fight are two very different things, now aren't they? I'd hate to say it, but if you need to get the jump on somebody to be ready to handle this.. 'danger', then you're really not prepared for it at all, are you?" Athren kept his eyes focused on hers, watching for any sort of reaction. He knew she wouldn't be happy about this but he was experienced, he lived his life in the fight and knew the difference between danger and a fight. "We'll get you trained up so you can handle it all, Alright? Plus I've got a gravity chamber that you can use at any time." Whether or not she approved or had an attitude, he meant every single word of it. If this woman wanted help, he'd provide. He'd damn well make sure she could defend herself so this never happened again, no matter
With his intro, her smile faded ever so slightly. He didn't think much of it but maybe she had heard of him before but that wasn't what was important at this moment in time. What was important was getting to know her name and when he had finally got to hear it, it was a rather pleasant one. He liked it. "Shore, I like it. Fitting name for a place like this." Considering the village had been surrounded by the river and the shoreline had been everywhere, it was a name that could very easily remind him of his new home.
With the conversation of housing, Athren arched a brow as he went off his memories. "Well, There's a handful of rooms in this house and it's pretty big. I'm the only one who lives here so you can take your pick. Although if you'd prefer your own place, there's a few available down near the end of town and some of them are right on the riverbank. We can take a walk if you're capable and want to see."
Whatever she would decide on would be good enough for him. If she wanted a house to her self she was more than welcome to it, after all they did have a few spares and if Athren needed too, he'd simply create more. If she also wanted to keep him company, that would've been great too. The only thing he could really do now was wait out her answer. He had a feeling that a walk wasn't really in the picture for them given her state but maybe she'd be more than capable and surprise him but for now, the decision was completely up to her with what was going to happen next.

"Maybe you've misunderstood." Except Shorette wasn't under the assumption that she thought Athren misunderstood, but he just did. "Getting the jump on someone is being prepared. Now that said, not everything can go my way; an unfortunate fact of life that I've accepted and something we can all agree on." She explained. In other words, she tried to describe being always one step ahead and planning in advance. If that doesn't work, there's always a backup plan. If the backup plan doesn't work, well, there's only so many plans Shorette can make before she has to improvise. There's even times where things go completely the opposite of what she expected and there was no choice but for her to wing it. If anything, that proved she could handle herself.
"That said, I may not be perfect or can plan ahead every single little detail in the event that things could go unexpectedly south, but I will say that handling a fight and handling danger are practically the same if my life or anything important to me is on the line." Fight, danger, there was no difference. Not all fights are dangerous as obviously spars existed, as well as being able to have the upper hand, but danger always involved some form of fighting.
"Like I said, though, I'll be sure to have my tracks covered in the event that I screw up and I'm on the run." Shorette stated, teasingly putting one hand where her heart was and the other one rose to the level of her head. A promise that may not be guaranteed, but a promise nonetheless. Training was all she needed, and it was something that had to be permanently installed in her fairly routine so she wouldn't fall off. She acknowledges that there will be people stronger than her, especially with how diverse this planet became. Humans were still the dominant race, but it was clear that there were other species that were naturally stronger and the majority of humans were far from suitable in the world of fighting; just everyday citizens uncapable of performing feats that were simple to those in such a world such as flight.
Shorette tilted her head to the side, eyes squinted in confusion when Athren told her that he had a "gravity chamber" that she could use at any time. That sounded nice and dandy, perhaps even useful, but she had no clue what that was. "While I'm grateful that you're willing to let me use it, though I'm afraid you're going to have to educate me a little on this 'gravity chamber'. I'd love to check it out, though." It was a location, or at least she assumed it was a location of some sort, that did sound as if it could help speed up the training process, so she looked forward to it.
Having her own house was a preferred choice. Shorette could have her privacy and plan accordingly when it came to the gigs she's taken or venturing out on her own accord. Now the question arose, was the young woman's condition satisfactory enough for her to get up, stand, and walk around for an extended period of time? There was only one way to find out. Shorette shifted her legs over the edge of the bed, using both arms to push herself onto her feet. "Alright... right foot first..." She strained to herself. The young woman then proceeded to shift all of her weight onto her feet once both of them laid flat on the ground. Afterwards, she attempted to lift herself up from the bed...
Only for Shorette to quickly collapse on the ground. "Gah!" She yelped after her body made a rough landing on the ground. "Damn it!" She hissed through her teeth. A hand curled into a tight fist, she slammed it against the ground out of frustration; something Shorette ever rarely did. The unflattering reality of her being chased out of her own home by a bunch of low life thugs messed with her and she wanted her revenge. However, she also realized that training was no simple and easy process. It felt like a lose lose situation, but she needed all the help she could get.
"So... it appears you have a new roommate for the time being. I promise I'm an orderly person, so you won't see me making any messes." A half ass joked, mainly as a cope for herself. Shorette tried her hardest to climb back up on bed, only for her to slip and fall back to the ground. "SHIT!" Another hissed warranted from a second failed attempt of getting back up. Her dignity was already going further down the drain, so the young woman slowly turned her head to Athren. "So uh... if you don't mind as to kindly help me back up, it'd be greatly appreciated." She said.

Athren had kept his tone rather calm and passive, though he wasn't going to give up on his point. If getting the jump on somebody and relying on surprise was your method of being prepared, you simply weren't prepared. You were essentially just relying on their failure to respond instead of your ability to fight. To each their own but he didn't see it as being prepared, nor did he see it as an effective way to handle a situation like that. Athren was quite the opposite, he would rather be as prepared as possible to face somebody straight on. No hidden strikes, no getting the jump on them. Just a straight old fight where the better fighter came out on top. That's what Athren's definition of being prepared was and that was honestly what he was going to stick too. He was a saiyan after all.
"Practically the same? Isn't there people who drown? People fall from heights, people face all kinds of danger all the time. Though when you're placed against somebody who's actively trying to hurt you in a fight, it's a completely different thing." He couldn't help but shrug his shoulders and give one more playful comment. He could tell that her attitude was rather playful, so his next comment was a very playful and tormenting statement. "It's alright though, You can be wrong about this all you'd like. I won't try and change your mind about it."
Doubling down on the fact that she'd cover her tracks. Athren nodded his head. He had no reason to doubt her aside from the fact that she had wound up here in the first place wounded. It did make him second guess her statement but everybody had been there before. Even he had faced this level of injury before and it wasn't fun but it wasn't necessarily about what put you there, it was about how to improve so you never got put there again. "I'll take your word for it." He really didn't need to touch on it anymore, after all she DID double down. She was confident in her abilities to cover her tracks and with a little bit more training, he was positive she'd be able to handle any potential attackers pretty easily. So long as she didn't bump into a saiyan or one of the rare earthlings, she'd be better than fine.
With the topic of the gravity chamber, she gave the visual cue that she hadn't the slightest idea what it was and that wasn't necessarily a surprise, but he was more than happy to inform her about it's capabilities and give her a friendly warning. "The gravity chamber is a room in my ship designed to alter the gravity. Once it's activated it'll make the gravity heavier and make even the most basic movements difficult. Not only will it increase your power but your speed as well. " He paused for a moment before giving her the location of it. "My ships in a cave behind the waterfall, take the elevator down to the lowest level. It's voice activated. I don't recommend starting at anything past ten times Earth's gravity." Whether or not she'd listen to his warning was on her but it was best to at least understand what you were dealing with when adapting to that kind of training.
With Shore trying to make it to her feet, Athren observed, It seemed as if it were time for a tour. His plan was to start with his house first to see if there was a room to her liking and then make his way out to the town. He figured that if she found a place she'd remain immediately and settle in and it was smartest to start at the closest available space. The effort it took her to get out of bed was extreme? The effort it took her to hit the floor? Effortless. Athren simply spectated, though he did flinch in an effort to help he just let it happen. He stayed silent, simply allowing her the chance to get the strength to get back up.
"I've got no complaints with a new roommate and I assure you, I'll leave the place in a more of a mess than you. I just have magic to help me clean it ..." It was at this point that she slipped again and was headed to the floor, though this time he immediately reacted and caught her. He shifted his arm around her waist and lifted her up to her feet. He was allowing her to use him as a crutch, to put her full weight on him to assist her with her mobility. "up.. but we'll give you a tour, you can pick any room you want." It was at this point he'd slowly take his time walking her out, stopping at each room they reached to let her take a view.
