Anastasia flexed the arm that the beast had clipped with it's water beam. She wasn't too injured. It had winged her more than anything, but a direct hit would be dangerous. It might possibly be strong enough to punch through her if she wasn't careful. She saw Oran and when he approached to ask her what happened, she opened her mouth to warn him about the hidden river monster, but she was too slow. It shot another water beam at them. Oran launched a ki blast to intercept the attack, impressively blowing back the piercing water jet. She also noted the ki around his fists, curious about the technique, but now was not the time to ask.
"Let's split up, flank it," Anastasia said, "It can't attack us both, at least I hope not. And maybe one of use can spot it when it's attacking the other. That'll be our chance to hit it."
She punched her fist into her palm to emphasize her point. Before she could get a confirmation or decline from Oran, however, there was another surge of water, not from a concentrated jet, but from the creature breaching the water and ambushing them again. Anastasia looked over and made a split second evaluation. Could she stop it's attack? Block or defend against it? No, it was moving too fast and was way too large. Damnit. She dodged aside from the attack, taking to the skies again.
Water burst into the air, the spray causing a soft rainbow to shimmer for a moment. It hallowed a long serpentine creature, snake-like as it lacked limbs. But it had fin like protrusions along it's sides, not on it's back. It slithered with lightning speed, and had already looped back into the water after it's ambush attack. It was ridiculously fast for it's monstrous size.
From above it was indeed just a little bit easier to see the slightly off color patch of river that was the camouflaged beast. It was still impressively difficult, however, if she hadn't been specifically looking for it, her eyes might have easily just skipped past it. Anastasia glanced about for Oran, making sure he was alright after the attack.
"Oran???"
Meanwhile the river beast was swimming down river, trying to get a little space between it and it's prey that was zipping about like flies. It was primarily an ambush predator, with two of it's attacks thwarted, it wasn't sure if it would be worth to continue the fight. Would the energy and risk of injury be worth conflict with prey that had been capable of avoiding it twice?? The beast flicked out it's mysterious senses, similar to the ki sense that the other fighters could utilize. The first one had taken to the skies again. Frustrating. The beast was capable of sucking in water through it's gills and release it from it's mouth through a special orifice that pressurized it. But it was exhausting, using it's gills meant that it was unable to breath while using it. It wasn't an effective multi-use tool. But it's the only way it could attacked ranged pray like birds and these flying humans.
Where did the other one go? If it was still on the ground, it could try another ambush. But if it had taken to the skies like the other one, then it might be better for the beast to flee down stream... it was capable of swimming at bullet-like speeds. It was confident it could shake the flying ones if it needed to abscond. It would be a shame. But it wasn't worth the injury of a prolonged battle. Better to retreat and look for easier prey...
