It was a simple task, but not one X did often. Her expertise lied within assassination; taking out whoever she was ordered to do so. Usually quietly and subtle, but often other times with the disruption of her original programming, the android went out with a bang, just how she liked it. The director regularly ever contacted the young woman if someone needed to be wiped off from the face of the planet. This, however, was different. It was foreign and something that X never expected to do, and frankly, it sounded exciting. The question was, could she be up for the job? Of course. Could it be executed well and simple? Probably not. And that's how X liked it.
"Rob a bank." X repeated the job to the director that sat across from her. A thoughtful expression stuck to her face, she leaned back in contemplation, her eyes wandered to the ceiling out of curiosity. "Not that I'm unwilling to take on this job, but I will admit, sir, this is rather... an unorthodox request." She pointed out. There were other suitable and much more capable candidates who could fill X's spot. She never complained, but she had to wonder... why an assassin of all people?
The man sighed and bowed his head momentarily before he brought his glare back to the woman across him. "I know this is unusual and not something that is out of your league in terms of what skills you provide to the organization but consider this a little test to expand them. Offer some versatility to your arsenal." He offered a calm smile whilst he explained himself. That was all it was, or so the man claimed. As much as she wished that were the case, there was something in her that said otherwise.
X flashed doubt on her face. She leaned back and crossed her arms, a brow raised in disbelief. A corporation known to produce combatant androids funded by the USD and EDF, resulting into making millions, has fell to the custom of robbing a bank like petty thieves? No, there was more to this than the director let on. "Why fall to something so low? You practically have money thrown at you by two of the largest forces this planet has to afford. It could've been anything in the world... but to rob a bank? When you're already sitting on top of a stack of cash?" X leaned forward and squinted her eyes at the man in suspicion. "I don't take you for someone that's greedy for money... and you never struck me as someone that'd stoop way below as simple as robbing a bank."
The director only stared back at X, his calm smile vanished from his lips and replaced with a more neutral shape. X could never tell what was on this man's mind. Even if what he'd say wouldn't make sense from time to time, there was no telling what he thought. It was the one skill she could respect. "Now pardon me if I'm jumping the gun here and making the assumption I'm about to make... but... you're not in any trouble with anyone, right?" She asked. Rarely did Lexustries Inc ever got into hot water behind the scenes with how discreet they operate, but she wouldn't be surprised if that were the case... well, maybe not too surprised, but surprised, nonetheless.
"Trouble? Is that what you think? No, no, we're not in any trouble with anyone. I know this will sound a bit uncanny for my character, but there's more than just going to a bank and stealing all of their money." The director explained himself as his smile returned.
On cue, the director reached below his desk and pulled out a folder filled with various documents and photos. "This bank holds something we want. You see," He paused to pull out a picture of a highly secured bank and placed it in front of the other woman. "This right here is Acer Spade, a bank monopolized by one of our top competitors, S.K.A.N. While the bank itself is legit, S.K.A.N uses it as a safehouse for their blueprints for their weaponized features on their androids. " The director looked back up to view X's face, silently questioning if she followed along so far.
X only stared in astonishment at the picture of the bank before she looked back up. "Should've known something was up. So this whole bank robbery thing is a ploy for the real deal." She guessed.
The director nodded his head in agreement. "Exactly. Acer Spade's security are aware of these plans and are expected to guard them with their lives no matter what. At first the bank inside is all on one floor, but just behind those counters where the staff are, there's a door located in the far left that leads to a series of rooms and floors that's practically a maze. In short, though, the blueprints are locked up in the basement, so you have to travel deep down to get them." He said.
""Hmm... whatever the hell are in those blueprints, must be strong as hell for them to try and hide it so well." X pondered.
THe director nodded in response as he laid back comfortably in his chair. "They are. That's why a 'heist' is a suitable distraction, they'd think twice to let a couple of goons let their profits and the likes get away than to keep their end of the bargain with S.K.A.N. It's a natural scenario to play out, after all." While he talked, he pulled out a diagram from the folder. "This here is the layout of the bank's entire structure. The basement looks deeper than expected when laid out on this diagram, but knowing you, you can figure something out to get there quick. I have faith in you." He said.
X lifted the diagram to her face to get a good look at the layout. While it hovered across her face, she spoke, "Alright, so I break in, pretend I'm doing a heist, and-"
"You're not doing this alone," The director interrupted. X placed the diagram down in disbelief, but before she could say anything else, the director continued. "If you want to pull this 'heist' off, you're going to need a crew. Except this crew will have the heist as their priority than what we're really going after." He said.
"...Hmm." X hummed in consideration. "So what you're saying is I recruit people into this heist, thinking that they're just doing a bank job, but really while they rob the place and dip, I stay back for the blueprints since the guards will have their priority on the stolen money." A smirk curled on her lips before she huffed out an amused chuckle. "I have to say, sir, you really know how to cook up a well-seasoned plan." She praised her boss.
"Don't get too giddy, X. Remember, the bank is swarmed with security in high tech. You can go in with a bang at the start of the 'heist', but I strongly recommend you try and play it careful if you want to come back in one piece." The director warned. He then nudged the folder forward for X to take. "Inside that folder are possible candidates to help you with the 'heist' after a few days worth of scoping out potential talents that are best suitable. Some may be more capable than others, but that is for you to decide." He informed.
"AND I'm captain? Oho, you're just giving me a power trip now." With a nod, X got up from her seat with the folder in hand. "Won't let you down, boss. I'll see what I can do." And with that, she began to walk towards the door.
"Don't forget," The director called out. "We're in no rush of getting those blueprints. Take as long as you need to make this operation run smoothly. You only get one shot." He reminded her.
Or so he hoped she would take her time. Knowing her, though, she won't listen.
