A lot of people might wonder just how Opherla made a living for herself. How could she be 17 and own her own place? Did she have a job? No, ask around any of the cities and you'll find no job application forms for an Opherla of any kind, or if you do, it's not the Opherla you're looking for. Well, maybe she secretly worked for an army? Nooo, that would imply that she knew a lot of people and left often to save the planet. She wasn't quite that famous yet. Maybe she had parents who supported her from afar. A good guess, Opherla's earthly parents still called her now and then, but wrong again, Opherla wasn't a dependent. So, just how did Opherla make her living?
The answer was simple. She was a hitman. Plain as that. If someone came to her house, had a lump sum of zeni of any kind, and had a job to take out something that was trouble for them or the city within reason? She took the job. It looked shady, but thanks to Opherla alone, crime rates in West City had become the lowest in years, an accomplishment that not even Goku or Vegeta of year's past had accomplished. Opherla was West City's secret hitman, although she didn't like the term hitman. No. What did she like? Vigilante. That was the proper term she liked.
And today would be another day for a call that Opherla would get from an anonymous informant. The informant never paid her much…
But Opherla wasn't doing this all for money. She was doing it for the good of West City. All heroes have to start small before they go big right? I mean, Batman started in Gotham City before he became part of the Justice League. Doctor Strange started in New York City before he defended the Multiverse. Even Goku started small! Protecting Earth before saving the entire Multiverse in his own way. Heroes always start off small, before they go to the bigger picture.
"I got a tip that there might be a resurgence of the Red Ribbon Army. We've been monitoring the rumors for weeks but… they're trying to put a threshold in West City. The pay's not gonna be as good this time to keep things low for the news media but… you think you can handle the job?" A male's voice asked Opherla.
"Trust me. I'll make sure West City stays safe over whatever payment you give me. Send me the coordinates and I'll be right over." Opherla said with a smirk before getting the coordinates and writing them down, before heading off to face the Red Ribbon Army.
As Opherla arrived at her destination, she realized just what she was looking at. The Red Ribbon Army was trying to set up more bio android labs to mass produce bio androids with varying power levels and varying abilities. Opherla knew that if this lab operated for too much longer, that West City would be in very imminent danger. Opherla took a deep breath, looking ahead at the base… before she charged in, using the dark of night to help her approach towards the base.
Luckily, the base didn't have security lights on the outside in every place. Opherla snuck around in the dark spots of the security camera's views, evading them easily as she giggled. This was too easy! Opherla successfully snuck into the base and managed to avoid the eyes of guards, up until she reached the heart of the base, where all the nice and juicy explosives and controls were.
"Heehee… stealth time is over." Opherla whispered to herself as she looked at the guards in front of the wide open door… and pounced.
What followed after was a massive ensuing of chaos and disorder throughout the base.
"We have an intruder! Intrude- AAAAGH!" One of the soldiers yelled in pain, blasted apart with a ki blast.
"How did she find u- YAAAAGH!" Another yelled in agony, being shredded by claws.
"SHE'S A MONSTER, RUN! WAAAGH!!!" Another yelled as Opherla ripped his throat out with her fangs.
For the next couple of hours, Opherla dismantled the base entirely, from the smallest of machineries to biggest of assembly lines, she killed and slaughtered the soldiers guarding them all and destroyed the machines as thoroughly as possible, the soldiers and workers all screaming as the blinks and streaks of red complimented with the gold of her eyes carved through the base as she laughed at hearing their screams.
"This is what you deserve for threatening my city!" Opherla laughed as she continued her path of destruction, leaving nothing standing or living as she made sure every part of the Red Ribbon base was demolished in the dead of the night. It was unfortunate they were so far out of the city limits so no one could hear their screams of terror and agony. Someone could have saved them. Oh well. They would just have to continue staying a secret, wouldn't they?
Opherla dusted her hands. The entire base was destroyed. She smiled, looking at her work with a wide grin. "And just like that, thwarted again." Opherla smirked as she dashed away from the rubble before anyone, let alone local authorities, caught her there and would claim her as a monstrosity for attacking an innocent structure, even though that was far from the case.
Later on, back at her home…
"Breaking news. Local authorities responded to a fire that broke out in a research facility a few miles from the heart of West City. Authorities say the cause of the facility's destruction was due to a large fire outbreak, and that the source of the fire was unknown. What was worse was the sad state of the many corpses found within the research facility. It is unclear if this was sheer accident… or a planned attack. We will follow up with more updates as we receive them."
This was the one time Opherla had actually been invested into the news of West City, watching it live on her phone as she laughed.
"A fire. What a load of crap." Opherla laughed as she was about to go back to playing a game when her phone rang and she answered. "Wassup?"
"I cannot express how much West City is in your debt, girl. I'll get you the money I have now but I wanna repay you more. When's your rent due?" The male voice from before asked.
"Next week. Why?" Opherla asked.
"I'll take care of it for you." The male voice responded.
"Damn, you don't have to do that. Just paying me a little is enough, well, protecting West City is enough, actually." Opherla said.
"No, I insist. Let me take care of it. I'll call you for anymore jobs West City might need you to do. You're a hero, Opherla. A goddamn hero." The voice said as he hung up as Opherla sighed and giggled.
"Man. What a guy." Opherla smiled as she heard the microwave kick off, as she got up from her couch and grabbed a steaming plate of pizza bites, as she grabbed one and chucked it into her mouth, smiling as she finished chewing. "I love my job…" Opherla said with a bright smile as she giggled.
