Realizing that it'd been a long time since Athren has gone without any real defensive techniques to protect himself against really strong attacks, Athren had created a potential list of techniques he wanted to learn to help him better protect himself and others. Though there were a handful of ideas he came across one that would really grab his attention and hold it for a period of time, this technique wasn't anything special or unique but it was something practical and effective. It was also something he had seen used in combat plenty of times before and it worked very well to protect the user or their allies and it was a technique that he wanted to have. Plus another idea part of this was the fact that it wouldn't be anything special to learn, it was a very basic usage of Ki but a practical one.
His method of training this was going to be rather simple, he'd go into his gravity chamber and crank it up to the full force and once that was done, he'd get his training dummy to attack him rapidly! Though the training dummy really wasn't beneficial anymore in terms of increasing his own strength, it could still be a very practical unit to attack him and force him into a defensive stance. It was always easier learning defensive techniques while being attacked, it pushed the need for it a little higher and made the focus of it more real. Without that, you were really just practicing a move without having it tested too. Athren's high standards wouldn't allow for something like that, he needed his techniques tested and true, he needed to make sure they were effective and worked as planned and he simply couldn't afford anything but the best end results, he needed them flawless.
After watching the horrific events of Earth and having his kids die in front of his very own eyes, he even put more pressure on himself to make sure everything was perfect and a lot of his technique ideas were about other people. They weren't just about him anymore. In fact, the whole reason he was here on Yardrat was to prevent situations like that from ever happening again. He needed to be strong enough to fight the threats of those who would hurt who he cared about, fast enough to get there and stop them but now he was digging a little bit deeper and developing more. He wanted techniques to protect those around him while on the battlefield. He knew he wouldn't be able to save everybody, that was just a simple fact of life and the circumstances that wrapped themselves around the kinds of situations Athren would often find himself in, but if he could save those he cared about and the ones trying to do good? Well, everybody else could be wished back through the Dragon Balls with the help of the few he could save.
It wasn't exactly the most flawless of thought processes but it did help up with a final conclusion on what he was going to create and the Nova Barrier had seemed perfect to fit his needs. Though there was still a lot of potential techniques running through his mind, he'd settle for this for now and felt as if it would come in handy sooner rather than later. He couldn't help but think of what-if scenarios to help justify this technique and it's usages, like what if Zerori would accompany him to Namek? He was a lot stronger than she was and it was a very hostile planet, a technique like this could easily help save her life in a pinch. Hell, it could've been used to save his kids, and protect against some of Quashes attacks. It was a really wide-open technique that would fit a handful of scenarios.
He had to learn it and had to perfect it fast. Though he had weeks left on Yardrat, he didn't want to wait. He needed this technique down pat by the end of the day and currently, it was noon. Though it seemed like a lot of time to complete it, time had tended to fly by when Athren was training and learning new techniques and moves. Counting time while training under the gravity chamber wasn't exactly easy to do, a distracted and occupied mind could rarely keep track of the minutes in their head, though that was fine too. Regardless of all his thoughts, Athren made sure to eat a nice and heavy lunch, he'd need the food to fuel what he was about to put himself through. He wasn't going to stop until this technique was mastered, eat or sleep wouldn't become a factor to the saiyan for he had a goal in mind.
That goal was the only objective for the rest of the day and there wouldn't be anything around to get stuck or caught in his way. It was a straight line to the finish and he'd damn well finish the race. All he'd need to do was put the effort into the technique and focus his Ki and surely, he'd manage to get it done. He knew he'd pull it off but he was eager, almost to eager sometimes. The saiyan in him wanted the best of techniques, the best methods to win against an opponent and that drove him to push himself to a very unhealthy level. Though he knew he could handle it, he could take every ounce of punishment he brought upon himself and smile because at the end of the day, he knew every bit of it was worth it. This wasn't just about his own strength anymore or his own techniques, this was about using those to protect others around him. It was a new thing for him, even with the children he didn't really manage to have this train of thought.
When it came to the kids, he simply thought that he was strong enough to protect them. It was his default thought on that subject, it was his only thought on it really. It might've been the curse of being such a gifted warrior, planet Vegeta had set him up to believe that he was stronger than most, that he was better than most, and even when he wasn't, he could somehow manage to pull through and get the victory, get the win against all of the odds. He didn't really ever think somebody would be able to get passed him or hurt his children, he thought it was damn well impossible.
Having the demonic transformations didn't help either, those would just boost his confidence to an even higher level. He had something that other saiyans didn't have and that surely helped push him to that height of confidence and pride. Growing up, his peers couldn't keep up with his abilities, they couldn't touch him at times. It was hard for them to even keep up and while he watched everybody else struggle where he excelled, to watch them dig deep and push to get through moments that were all but too easy for him really didn't help his mindset. He grew up feeling almost untouchable, almost like he was above the rest in both statue and raw talent. Being the best growing up around his peers, it contributed to this massive failure, it was all part of the reason why he even left himself open for his kids to be taken from him. Though at the end of the day, it was really all on him. It was all his fault and he couldn't blame anybody else.
Looking back, he should've taken the time to prepare for it. Should have focused on protecting them and making their safety the utmost of importance, but he didn't and now he was suffering for it and it was far too late to change his course to save them. One thing it wasn't to late for was the future. His future was filled with uncertainty and doubts and he really didn't have single clue about where it would lead him but he did know that he wasn't going to let history repeat itself. He'd be more humble, and respectful and have a little bit more care for the rest of the lives in the universe.
Now that he got to experience loss first hand, he knew what it felt like to have your whole life turned upside down, to be ripped apart as you helplessly watched. He wasn't going to do that to anybody ever again, he'd make sure he did the right thing, protected those in need, and stayed on the good side of the moral charts. His uncertain future at least had a direction and that's all he had to go off of. He really didn't have any friends, he absolutely didn't have any family and he didn't have a faction backing him anymore. This was a direction he'd have to navigate alone, but he'd manage just fine and he knew he would.

Standing in his chamber the gravity was already activated, it was pushing down upon his shoulders at a force one hundred and twenty five times more than Earth's. It was cranked up to it's highest setting though if Athren could, he'd crank it up even more. He liked the challenge, he liked feeling the force of the gravity trying to pull his body down to the floor. The weight was steady, consistent and strong but he wasn't going to fumble, stumble or fall. He'd stand tall against it all and push through and complete his training, learn his technique and become a better fighter through the process of it all. Along with the gravity being activated and on high, his super heavy training weights had been equipped and wrapped around his waistline tightly. He was all but ready to get the most out of his training and to get stronger along with learning a brand new technique.
"Let's get started, Shall we?" Athren spoke aloud. Though it wasn't exactly a common thing for him to do, he couldn't help it. He had already felt his adrenaline start to push through him, his heart pounding and the blood pumping. Though he was a hybrid, he was still fifty percent saiyan, and anything to do with a fight or preparing for had managed to get him excited! He was ready for this and very highly motivated! The next time Athren would speak would be towards the computer of the ship and it would be to inform the computer on what to do next. "Activate the training dummy, Offensive protocol seven."
Upon hearing the words the computer would do as it was told, the training dummies main reactor in its chest would light up a bright white color as its body began to move and straighten out from its hunched over and powered down position. The dummy was ready to follow its programming and currently, it only had one task. Its task was simple, to go on an all-out offensive attack on its owner. It was supposed to try and damage its owner with everything it had and not hold back. It was super to be rapid, quick and strong.
Of course, the dummy didn't have anything that could actually hurt Athren. It didn't have any techniques or real strength. It was all artificial and Athren had far surpassed what it was even capable of. Even if it did manage to collide its metallic fists into his flesh, it wouldn't leave any damage or even a mark. Now that the dummy had finally been activated and stepped off of its charge, its loud and heavy metal feet began to clunk and clank against the gravity chambers floor as it began its first steps toward its owner.
Now that things were finally about to get started, Athren would take a very quick second to blink into his super Saiyan transformation. There was no requirement for a long and drawn-out power-up now that he had learned to control and harness his super saiyan transformation. He really was grateful he decided to put so much time into it and shape it, tone it into something else entirely. His high standard had applied to everything in his life, not just his techniques. In the case of super saiyan it was very simple. He wanted to have it accessible in all but an instant, in a matter of a second. He wanted to be able to turn it on and off at will without a time delay.
It was a fairly known fact that in a fight or even a life or death situation, every single second mattered and Athren needed to erase all the time he could from performing his techniques and transformations. He couldn't have just sat back and slept easily knowing he needed to take time to transform because a simple question had run through his head. What if somebody were to fire such a massive blast at him that he needed to transform and what if because the transformation took but a few moments, he couldn't do it in time and got hit? It wasn't something that he'd accept and he surely wouldn't go out like that. He refused to go out because of his own failures like his children did, they had already suffered for him and that was a mistake that wouldn't ever be made again. He was much too good to allow himself to repeat mistakes.
Every mistake had a lesson to be learned from it and his biggest mistake to date came with the biggest lesson at hand and he'd make sure he was prepared and ready. In the back of his mind he knew that someday he'd go out, he'd die in battle or from natural causes but he wasn't going to go out like a chump, he'd go out on his own terms in his own way, he was a warrior after all and he was the one who got to decide his fate, nobody else would have that right and nobody could take that from him. Even if he was in a fight he couldn't win and death was a certainty, so long as he kept getting up and CHOSE to meet his fate, he'd be happy with that. Those would be his terms and an appropriate way for a warrior to go out. Even if they killed him, he DECIDED to stand up and keep fighting, he DECIDED his fate.
Preparation was everything and he wasn't going to stop. Every day he spent on Yardrat was a day spent getting ready to fight for everything that meant something to him and the fight coming wouldn't be easy, super saiyan or not the Planet Trade was a very powerful organization with many connections and allies spread wide throughout the universe. When Athren set this fight off, when he chose to take the fight to them to liberate Namek and gather the Dragon Balls he knew he'd be putting another target on his back, one that his kids would need to be free from. They'd need to be far away with no memory of him, otherwise, history would repeat itself and the PTO would target everything close to him.
When he set this fight off, he knew what he'd need to do. He couldn't allow anybody to keep a record of him and take it to their superiors, they wouldn't be able to find out his name or where he was planning to reside, they really couldn't learn anything about him at all or they'd use that information against him. It wasn't exactly something Pybara would have wanted but Athren did have a very narrow look on the soldiers of the PTO. Even if they were just men and women doing their job, they'd have to die. They weren't innocent and if they were on Namek they'd damn well know first hand that what they were doing was wrong. They wouldn't have been good people and Athren could justify that.
He wasn't going to spend his time killing innocents anymore, taking contracts, and hurting those who didn't deserve it but when it came to the PTO he wouldn't turn a blind eye or look away. They'd pay for what they did to him if it meant cutting down every single member to get to the ones responsible. Along with that, it was necessary for the end result of Namek. He'd need them gone to get the Dragon Balls and if he planned to free Namek from its captors, they'd all need to suffer and there really wasn't a way around that. There was only one way to go and that was forward, right through the heart of his enemies.
Every step he took in learning a new technique or pushing himself to get stronger would affect his results of Namek. What he did know for certain was that he didn't want Namekians getting caught in the crossfire of his actions and he'd do his best to protect every single one of them. This wasn't just for Ukare anymore, this was for Athren too. He wanted to redeem himself and start making up for all the negative actions of his past, he wanted to save as many Namekians as he could.
They didn't deserve what was happening to them now and they didn't deserve death and if Athren could do it he wouldn't allow any of them to get hurt. It was part of his goal, nobody else would get hurt over his actions or his choices, just his enemies. Though getting lost in thought in the gravity chamber wasn't exactly ideal, he snapped out of it rather quickly and the training dummy had found itself going from its walking motion to a large leap towards the saiyan warrior. It was about to pop off and Athren was about to start using his new technique and honing it to perfection. He had the time and now it was the perfect moment to really get it working.

With the training dummy now pressing its attack, Athren didn't have much choice but to snap out of it, to get out of his own head and his constant thoughts that kept creeping it. His thoughts had led him far into the future and he had to focus on the now, he had to stay focused and motivated to learn this technique quickly. The first strike the training dummy had made was towards Athren's face and he quickly ducked under it and pivoted around the training dummy to position himself behind it. Not only did this change their positioning but it provided Athren with time. The training dummy would need to shift around at rapid speeds and make its move then and Athren would have all the time in the world to react to its attack and prepare his Nova Barrier technique.
Though the concept was really simple, Athren had never actually crafted a barrier out of his own Ki before so having an extra few seconds wouldn't have been the worst thing. Swiftly the tummy pivoted around and as it did its arm came swinging widely and was aimed to collide with Athren's side, though the saiyan had something else in mind. His right hand lifted up rapidly and was put in the way of the attack though instead of letting it collide with his hands Athren focused and allowed something else to happen. Instead of blocking the blow physically with his palm Athren would create a small Ki barrier just big enough to tank the blow and stop it completely in its tracks.
Though it was only Athren's first attempt at it, he truly was a natural at this kind of thing. He had spent his entire life training himself to be stronger and to harness his ki on a more advanced level. He had been manipulating his own Ki ever since he was a small boy, it wasn't anything new to him and with his new training and his Spirit Control mastery, it was even easier than before. He could truly bring out his Ki in and shape or form and bend it to his will rather effortlessly. He wasn't just adept anymore or well practiced, he was officially the master of his own energies, his own being, and that allowed him to effortlessly create the barrier in no more than one first attempt.
Even if it was easy and he had already executed it well, that wouldn't be enough for Athren to be truly happy with it. He needed to practice with it and allow himself to use it more often and really get used to it and he'd do just that. The training dummy would launch attack after attack towards the saiyan warrior, a barrage of them within all but a short few seconds and Athren reacted as one would expect. His hands quickly got in the way of every single incoming attack and just before it would hit his palm, he'd create another Ki barrier in the way to stop it. He would repeat this for a little while, keeping up with the attacks coming and stopping them in their tracks.
It was quite the thought of how such a simple technique could really be so practical and useful, even when it wasn't a hard technique to come up with. The technique would have a lot of defensive uses and Athren knew he'd be using it sooner rather than later in a real fight, though he still couldn't help but think he'd use it more frequently to protect others. He'd much rather dodge an attack if it was just him there and he was the only stake there.
For about an hour Athren would keep up with created Ki barriers against the training dummies' incoming attacks. Given that the training dummy never got tired, the speed wouldn't ever fall off or decline. The pressure was constant and steady and it truly kept Athren invested in it. Even if it didn't have high stakes or it wasn't a real fight, he was still having some fun with it. That was one thing he really needed to give credit to his training dummy for, it had provided him with plenty of entertainment and fun throughout his time here on Yardrat. If it wasn't for the training dummy, not only would he be lacking in the strength he had now but he wouldn't have kept himself so entertained.
Though the Yardrats had been a very kind and nice race, they weren't exactly interested in the same things he was. They welcomed him and treated him like family but he wasn't one of them. He didn't enjoy their passive festivities or their grand feasts, events or their games and sense of community. That just wasn't who he was, he was still a fighter at heart. It's who he was down to his very core. A fighter, a warrior, and somebody who couldn't rest or take it easy, who needed to keep pushing to become better. Instead of joining the Yardrats in their social activities, Athren would have spent most of his time either with Pybara training or training on his own and that's where the training dummy had come in.
It kept him sharp and on his toes, engaged in every second of his technique training. The dummy itself couldn't match him but that was fine when it came to purposes such as this, creating a technique wasn't about the power level difference or the fact that he wouldn't take a hit, the dummy served its purpose and kept it fresh and engaging. Though as more attacks kept coming in from the dummy Athren knew that he'd need to move on from the basics very quickly, he'd want to fully encircle himself in the barrier and make sure that nothing could get in from all around him. He'd let the dummy through just a few more attacks before taking this one step further, he was right there though to changing it up and it'd only be but a few more minutes until he did.

Now that Athren had managed to do the technique consistently without any real effort at all, he had intended on ramping it up a little bit. The intention now was to make it a full circle around him, which wouldn't be too difficult at all. To start Athren would extend his right arm out far to his right and his left arm out far to his left, his hands open and palms out he'd simply create a circular barrier around him. He was fully protected all the way around in a full three hundred and sixty degrees. The technique would be useful if he ever got himself caught off guard by an attack that would surround him, it provided him with safety and a solid shield that could withstand some of the strongest attacks.
"Let's see if you can hit me now!" Athren exclaimed aloud as he glanced down his training dummy. Though it couldn't speak, it surely wouldn't have appreciated his attitude towards it. Athren knew he was safe, there was nothing the dummy could do to breach his defensive technique and land a hit on him. The training dummy simply went on a barrage of attacks, it could see that Athren was in a position where he was exposed yet the barrier would stop every single hard hit it tossed at it. Its knuckles couldn't penetrate through it, nor its knees or its kicks. It was completely helpless to breach the barrier and hit the user behind it all.
As the attacks kept coming Athren would simply hold his barrier there, he didn't have any need or want to lower it. This whole training was about the barrier after all. He kept his arms up for a little while as the training dummy continued to beat against it with all of its might. Though as time went on, Athren would lower one of his hands slowly and keep the energy there with the palm of his right hand, focusing and making sure he didn't drop it. Though even this wasn't much of a struggle and he found himself quickly dropping his second hand.
Even though both hands would be lowered, the barrier would still remain as Athren continued to channel his energy into it, though instead of the focus being through his hands, he expelled it through his entire body. His mind was crystal clear and focused, the task and had easier than expected. The training of his ki on Yardrat had really put him into a new league, heightened his senses and control of everything that was him and he really couldn't be happier with the results. It was really something else though how different it made him, he was a different version of himself, a better one than he ever was before. The road Athren had taken really wasn't an easy one, it was a path full of challenges and hardships and none of those hardships have pushed him in the direction he had been now, he was shaping up to be better.
The Nova Barrier technique remained while Athren got lost in his thoughts. Not matter what the training dummy did, it wouldn't even manage to weaken the barrier or force stress upon it. It was strong and held up against everything. Though it passed Athren's test, he wasn't going to let it down at anytime. He needed to get used to keeping the barrier active for a longer period of time and under the stress. Athren really never knew what his opponents would throw at this technique or how long it would have to endure a massive blast, but he did know that it would have to endure it, it had to be reliable and strong if it were to protect anything.
If it did fail to protect him, he wouldn't necessarily be upset. It was his own technique and that failure would only punish him but if this technique failed while he was attempting to protect somebody else, surely he'd feel pretty awful about it. He didn't want anybody else getting hurt because of his failures, in fact he really couldn't stand it. Enough lives were lost because of him and he couldn't handle adding even one more body to the count.
While Athren had maintained his Barrier, the dummy just kept on hammering away at it. It wouldn't give up like a living creature was as it wasn't programmed to do so and if it were a living creature, surely it would've given up and got tired by now. Hit after hit, the barrier continued to take more punishment but never stressed for a second. After a little bit longer of this going on Athren was pretty content with the results and happy with the way it was shaping out but there was still more to do, he needed it to expand further and needed this technique to be used at a distance. The primary goal was protecting others with it and that's what he needed to make sure could happen. It was just about practicing it at a distance down and passing that energy further on. Closing distance with this Ki wouldn't be hard, nor would creating the shield at a distance but he still wanted to practice.
Athren waited for the right moment and removed the barrier, he would quickly dip underneath the next attack and step forward and quickly move to the other side of the room. Given that he hadn't had another individual here to protect he had to come up with another way for the training dummy to attack the barrier. "Get the dummy to attack the manual gravity controls!" He exclaimed to the computer. With the order called out, it didn't take very long for the dummy to shift its attention to the controls and Athren knew he couldn't screw this up. If the controls got damaged it would cause the whole system to act up and he'd need to get it repaired and that wasn't something he wanted to go through.

With the training dummies' attention now on the controls Athren did feel a little bit more pressure, though it wasn't a lot more it was there and he could feel it. Though it didn't compare to another life, there were consequences if he had to fail now. If the barrier were to fail and he couldn't manage to hold it up long enough or keep it strong enough his gravity chamber would be rendered useless until it could be repaired and the bill for it would most likely be rather expensive. He really didn't want to have to pay such a heavy extra expense over a failure nor did he want to be without his gravity for some time. His gravity machine was half of the thing keeping him entertained on his Yardrat trip and the thing keeping him getting stronger and stronger. In fact, it was likely that without it he wouldn't have even reached the level of power that he did. He wouldn't be even close and he still had a lot more room to go. He didn't know where a saiyans potential truly stopped and the recent history of the saiyans didn't really indicate what it could be, but what he did know was that saiyans didn't even reach his level. He was something else, he was unique and special and worked his ass off to get to where he was but he needed to see where his limits were, needed to see when he'd tap out and become the strongest he could be.
To do that, he needed his gravity or so he believed. Without something else pushing him to fight and train harder, he wouldn't have much motivation to train at all. Of course, now he had goals that pushed him but once those had been accomplished, what was going to be next? What would motivate him to be better? To get stronger? Would it be another bad guy trying to mess something up or would he simply just lose interest when the job was done? He didn't have the answer to that, he couldn't possibly tell what the future would hold but what he did know was that he needed this gravity machine operational until he got back to Earth. That was the bare minimum thing he could answer out of all of that.
The training dummy had pressed the attack on the controls, it would simply take one strike from it to completely destroy the gravitons functions. It knew this and was dedicated and determined to fulfill the task. Closing the gap was rapid and fast and when it did it's right fist launched and its metal knuckles went flying straight towards the main controls. With little time to react Athren quickly lifted both of his hands and faced them towards the console and quickly the transparent Nova Barrier had formed. Though it had formed instantly, he was barely quick enough to ensure the consoles safety. Though he was at the opposite side of the room from the console, the technique was just as easy and just as quick. Though now all he had to do was wait out to see if the distance would cause any stress or difficulty.
Athren would hold the barrier there for a while as the training dummy had unleashed another massive barrage of attacks towards the gravity controls, it did it with massive programmed determination and enthusiasm. It was programmed and commanded to do a task and it desperately wanted to complete it. Its knuckles, feet and knees constantly collided with the barrier and once again it couldn't even force it to stress or struggle and Athren continued to effortlessly keep it in its full form and full shape. It was easy. Athren didn't struggle at all and even the distance didn't even add difficulty. He let this go on for a few more minutes before he was finally fully content with the outcome of todays training session.
"Turn off the training dummy and the gravity!" He exclaimed loudly and upon his request the gravity would immediately shut down and the training dummy would return itself to its charging station and deactivate. The relief Athren felt with the gravity being turned off was minor but it was present, the time he put into the gravity training really made a saiyan work. All the extra resistance against his body, against every movement and motion he made gave an extra sense of challenge. It was something else having gravity alone trying to pull you down to the floor with everything it was capable of, it was almost exciting really.
Now that training was done though Athren had a few things he really wanted to do. First of all, the saiyan really needed to get himself a shower and some food. Some rest wouldn't have hurt either for the time really did pass while he was in there. Though he started his training at noon, it was almost midnight now. Though it had only felt like a couple of hours, he was well in there for plenty of them. With another technique under his belt Athren was happy, he had another technique that would allow him to protect others, to shield them from any kind of harm that may go there way. He knew he'd use it eventually but on who or when, he couldn't identify. The point was he was prepared for the moment when he'd need it most and no matter the distance so long as he could see them, he could shield somebody from harm. Of course it would take its toll on him while in a fight but it would be well worth it if somebody else could survive. He had a lot to do to make up for his past, a lot of redemption was left to be done and he hadn't even started but with every step in the right direction, it would get easier and he'd be so much closer to it but until then, he'd have to wait for the moments to do the right thing arrived.
