Kassava sighed, a bead of sweat rolling down his forehead. The sun was beating down onto him relentlessly, his only protection from it being the prized straw-hat atop his head, covering his messy black hair and shading his face. He stood before a large lake, fishing rod in hand, and line in the water, waiting for even the slightest nibble of any unsuspecting fish to make his day and provide him with a meal. He could sense plenty of fish below the surface of the water, but none of them dare fall into the trap that was his fly. He suspected it had something to do with his poor bait. A small, feeble looking worm was unwittingly attached to the end of his fishing line, yielding no takers. Dinosaurs and other dangerous wildlife roamed the area around him. He could sense them all around him, but for now, he had remained unbothered.
"How will I ever become stronger If I can't even catch a simple fish?" He muttered to himself. His tail laid lazily on the ground behind him, rather than perked up like it usually was.
Suddenly, Kassava got an idea, and his tail stood to attention. He smiled mischievously, as he set his fishing rod and his hat to the side, turned around, and stuck his own tail into the water. He focused for a bit and waited, before he felt something, a life-force large enough for him to sense, and surely tasty enough for him to eat. The signature was slowly approaching his tail before...
Kassava spun around and dove into the water, wrapping both his arms and legs around the large fish. The fish started to squirm frantically, attempting to escape his grasp, but Kassava didn't let up, as he tried to maneuver the fish around towards the surface. After a good amount of wrestling, the fish finally dove out of the water, with Kassava still bear-hugging it. Kassava stood up, and held the fish (That was, at this point, still alive and squirming) overtop his head, a bright smile on his face, proud of what he'd accomplished.
Within seconds, the fish was snatched out of Kassava's hands by a large white bird. Kassava's eyes widened, and he paused for a moment as he realized what had just occurred. "HEY! THAT'S MY DINNER, YOU HEAR ME?! YOU DAMN BIRD!" He shouted angrily, grabbing his hat, and chasing after it. The bird flew close to the ground with the fish in its clutches, as if it was taunting him, and each time he would jump up to grab it, the bird would elevate. He grew frustrated, but he wasn't going to let this bird steal his meal, so he continued to chase.
"ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME! YOU GET BACK HERE RIGHT NOW!" He continued, but his screams were in vain, as the bird continued to fly off. It had seemed as though he'd lost this 'battle' for now...

Maki was no fisherman, but he found himself soaring east above a large lake in the Break Wastes nevertheless. Though casual flying was an uncommon thing in the world, it made for excellent training. The teen would have to consistently exert his ki to remain aloft. All the while, his clothing would be weighted to make the task more difficult. During this particular training session, he would feel something strange. There was another energy signature in the area, one that exceeded his own.
As he approached the source of the power, a huge bird would soar directly in front of him. It was carrying off a large fish of some kind, and Maki could make out the silhouette of the frantic fisherman from some distance away. Piecing two-and-two together, he surmised that the bird stole the fisherman's catch. Well, that was just rude.
In a quick burst of speed, the earthling would manage to tackle the bird and begin grappling it. The beast would caw and screech as it went into a panic. In a matter of seconds, the fish would drop from it's talons, and would in-turn be released by Maki. With the bird out of the picture, he would then swoop down after the fish, just barely managing to grab it's tail before it fell into the water.
With that, he would make his way through the air, towards the young fisherman. Strangely enough, the source of energy he had been sensing appeared to be this guy!? He didn't look like a warrior at first glance, but looks could be deceiving. "Hey, I think you lost something."
He would triumphantly hand Kassava the run-away fish before asking, "How did a bird like that manage to get one over on someone like you? Your energy is off the charts!"

Just when all hope had seemed lost, Kassava sensed something else coming. He looked around in the sky frantically. He thought that maybe it was another bird, but whatever it was, it was much more powerful than the bird that stole his fish. He then began to think that maybe it was some sort of huge flying dinosaur or something.
Kassava's assumptions had both turned out to be wrong, however, when he finally identified the powerful thing as none other than some guy that appeared to be human that was soaring through the air. "Woah...cool!" Kassava said to himself, as he watched the guy wrestle the fish out of the birds hands, and into his own.
Kassava continued to watch with excitement, as the guy landed, and brought the fish back to him. Kassava took the massive fish into his hands, almost salivating, despite the fact that the fish hadn't even been cooked yet. He then turned his attention back to the man in front of him. The guy was big and muscular. He looked like he trained everyday, under real martial artists! That was more than Kassava could say about most people he'd met in his life before. Most people...
And that wasn't even to mention the guy could fly! His next questions, however, confused Kassava. "Huh? Energy...?" Kassava trailed off, a confused look on his face. What exactly did he mean by that? Did he have the same sort of sense that Kassava did?
"I don't know about any of that, but that was amazing! How did you do that thing where you soared through the air?" Kassava asked excitedly.

Maki could only grin as he handed off the fish, pleased he had managed to make this guy's day. It was incredibly odd that the stranger didn't know anything about energy, considering he was significantly stronger than most others. Most fighters had to actually train their ki in order to get stronger, but this guy appeared to be born with strength... "Yeah... Ya know... Energy, Ki." Though the grappler wasn't the greatest at manipulating energy, he had a few basic techniques which relied on it.
The teen would raise his right hand, and then extend his arm towards a stump some distance away. Focusing, a small ball of glowing light would appear in his palm before quickly leaping toward the stump. Upon impact, there would be a small explosion which would totally annihilate the stump, "That. Are you saying you don't know how to do stuff like that?"
Following up his simple display of ki, the grappler would begin floating a couple feet off the ground and explain, "Flying is a technique like any other in martial arts. All you need to do is use ki to push yourself off the ground. From there it's pretty simple." He would quickly return to the ground, wondering what a guy like this was doing out in the middle of nowhere. Maki had only met a handful of other fighters in his time, and very few of them had strong energy signatures. This fellow was certainly an anomaly. Then again, maybe he was out in the wastes for some training, that made more sense.
"If you don't mind me asking, what brings you all the way out here? Are you doing some training too?"

Kassava watched the guy lift his hand up, his wide eyes curious in anticipation for what he was going to do next. Suddenly, a ball of some sort of energy appeared in his hand, before it was shot at a tree stump, blowing it up.
"Amazing!" Kassava said cheerfully, looking at the spot where the tree-stump used to be. He turned his attention back towards the guy, who seemed somewhat surprised that he didn't know how to do anything like that. "Nope! But I can punch things really hard!" The boy said in response. Of course, punching really hard didn't exactly measure up to being able to blow things up at a moments notice. He never really came across anyone that could do anything like that either, aside from his father.
Kassava then watched the guy's demonstration of flight. He made it look so simple...it couldn't have been too hard, right? Kassava would have to try it out for himself eventually. The only way he was able to fly was by spinning his tail around really fast. But this guy didn't even have a tail!
The guy then began to inquire as to why Kassava was 'all the way out here', and if he was doing some training as well. The question confused him. He'd always pretty much lived in the wilderness, so he was pretty much oblivious to the fact that he was in somewhat of a remote place.
"No, I'm just fishing. I actually don't know any martial arts at all. Once I find a teacher, though, I'll probably be even stronger than you!" He responded, somewhat bluntly, with a mischievous smile on his face. He didn't know just how strong this guy was, but he knew that he had to be pretty strong.
"Who's your teacher?" Kassava asked him.

Despite his show of examples, the young fisherman seemed truly incapable of using energy. That could only mean whatever sort of power this guy had was purely genetic. That train of thought would quickly be reinforced as Kassava he was never formerly trained in combat. It was almost similar to how Maki was born, with unnatural amounts of muscle for a child. There was a large difference between human children, and whatever this guy was however.
Then would come the all important question, who was Maki's master. The human would give a soft smirk, trying to hide his feeling of deep loss and anger. "Heh. I was actually trained by my uncle actually. Unfortunately, I don't think he can take on any new students right now..." He would go quiet for a moment, before quickly clearing his throat and continuing "Of course, I also get a lot of training from local martial arts gyms. Not the strongest fighters there, but they are great places to practice form and technique."
It simply seemed jarring, to see someone like this with so much potential. The grappler couldn't let this kind of opportunity go to waste, this was his chance to finally find someone who could keep up. An actual training partner, a potential rival. Maki would decide to go with the direct approach, as this young fisherman made it clear he was looking to learn martial arts.
"If you're interested, I'd be willing to show you a thing or two. I don't think I'm quite ready to be called a 'master', but I'm willing to pass on some knowledge..."

Kassava tilted his head in slight confusion, as the man explained that his uncle wasn't taking on any new students. Wow, his uncle must be really REALLY strong... The boy thought to himself, bot catching on at all to the fact that Maki was implying his father had been killed.
As the man continued to talk about his training amongst the various local gyms, Kassava's tail would begin to perk up in excitement and wonder. Were there really people like this guy all over the world? He'd never really come across many of them, and just the idea of meeting more of them got him a little excited.
And then came the icing on the cake. The guy offered to pass on some of his own knowledge to Kassava. Kassava saw this as something of a golden opportunity, given the fact that he was looking for strong fighters to train alongside anyway. Only problem was that he didn't know just how strong this guy was. The truth of the matter, in his mind, was that if he ever wanted to become stronger than his father ever was, and he was sure he wanted to accomplish that, he needed to find a master who was extremely powerful. Perhaps this guy wasn't his permanent master, but him showing Kassava a couple things certainly wouldn't hurt.
Then, Kassava's expression lightened up, as he realized he didn't even know this guy's name yet. "Sounds great! My name's Kassava. What's your name?" He asked, extending his right arm for a handshake, as he kept the large fish cradled in his left.
"And thanks for saving my dinner, by the way..." He added alongside a slight chuckle, his stomach grumbling a bit.

It was fortunate his new friend was so eager to learn about martial arts. With excitement like that, it wouldn't take Kassava too long to catch up with himself. Maki would accept the young fighter's handshake with a firm grip, and give his own name in response. "My name's Maki. Nice to meet you." Seeing that they were in a wide-open grassy area with a small lake, the pair were already in the perfect spot for some training. Since there were no people around, the grappler could use a little more force than usual.
The fighter could only smirk at Kassava's comment about saving dinner, to which he would explain "It's no big deal. You just looked like you needed some help. Same thing when it comes to fighting, I can sense you have a lot of potential. All you need to do is find it." With that, the earthling would turn around and take a few steps away from the hybrid. A thin white sheet of energy would appear around him while he gathered ki, but it would quickly subside as the teen began to levitate a few inches upward. This was a more step-by-step explanation of flight.
"So, when it comes to fighting, you can generally separate people into one of two groups. Those who know about energy, and those who don't... Any martial artist that can use energy or ki is going to have a huge advantage over a fighter that can't. So I think the first step is simple, we just need you to learn ki control." This was a task easier said than done, but when you have as much natural strength as Kassava, hopefully it wouldn't be as challenging.

Kassava set the, now very much dead, fish on the ground beside him, as he listened to Maki's words, saying that he held a lot of potential within him, and that he just needed to find it. It sounded a lot like something his father would've told him a long time ago, only now he actually had worthy motivation to try to realize his latent potential.
Maki would then charge his energy and levitate up, and begin to explain to Kassava that knowing about energy and ki would provide the boy a huge advantage in combat, although Kassava was less focused on Maki's explanation of ki, and more focused on Maki's flight. Kassava stared intently at him, wondering how he could do that. He scratched his chin for a bit before realizing what Maki had just said, and deciding to respond.
"Ki control?" He muttered to himself, before his expression would lighten a bit, and he would return his gaze upon Maki. "I don't know how to do that, but I can do this!" He said, as he would begin to furiously spin his tail in a helicopter motion, causing his body to lift upwards being propelled by it. It only lasted for about eight seconds, however, before he would fall back down to the ground, landing on his feet.
"Is that...ki control?" Kassava asked, completely seriously.

N/A WC: 286 TWC: 1,419 | Maki could tell Kassava didn't perfectly understand his explanation of ki and how it all worked. His attention appeared to be on flight itself, rather than energy in general. By the end of the explanation, the grappler felt he did a pretty good job elaborating on how it all worked. Even still, Kassava seemed blank-faced for a few moments before swiftly exerting that he though he had an example. "Alright, lets see this."
To the grappler's surprise and confusion, the boy before him would reveal a monkey-like tail and proceed to spin it like a helicopter. Within a matter of seconds, he would suddenly become aloft in the air!? Was that even physically possible? Did the guy just spin his tail around that fast!? Maki had several scientific questions which he doubted Kassava could answer. "Uh, well that was pretty impressive. I didn't realize you had a tail, you must be a saiyan, I've heard stories about them..." Like many others, the grappler knew that saiyans were born warriors. They boasted some of the most impressive victories and fights in history.
"Unfortunately however... I don't think you actually used any ki." Maki would stroke his chin for a moment thinking of a better exercise for the two of them. "Think of ki like... Catching a fish with your mind, It can require patience and willpower." The teen would extend a cupped hand and close his eyes. "Imagine yourself trying to flex your muscles outside of your own body, rather than inside." A small yellow globe of energy would form just above the grappler's palm, floating there as he focused. "Let your body react naturally to the concentration."
"I plan to get stronger and stronger." |

Kassava nodded in response to Maki's realization that he was a Saiyan. He didn't know that other people had heard tales of the might of the Saiyan race. It made him happy to be linked to such a strong race of warriors, despite the fact that he wasn't much of a warrior himself. At least not yet.
"Yep!" He said, with a cheesy smile. "Although, I'm only half of one. The other half is like you!" He added, assuming Maki was human. Despite the fact that he was half Human and was raised on Earth, Kassava often found it difficult to relate to many others of the Human race, due to having been brought up largely away from most civilization. Not that he often ran into them, anyway.
Kassava's expression returned to a confused one, when Maki stated that he hadn't actually used any ki. "Huh? With...my mind?" Kassava muttered, in a slightly confused tone. Most of what Maki was saying didn't make much sense. Patience wasn't exactly something that Kassava was fond of. Willpower, however, was a trait that was latent within him.
Kassava watched Maki's demonstration, internalizing what had happened, before looking down at his own open palms. "Hmmm...like flexing my muscles outside of my body. Okay! Let me try!"
Kassava stood there, eyes closed, and palms open. He focused, taking heavy breaths, as he attempted to do what Maki had said. Flexing his muscles outside of his body...
After a couple of seconds, a yellow-tinted rather weak looking orb of energy would appear above his palms. As he continued to focus and breath, it would begin to grow. "Woah!" He said, surprised at his own ability to create such a thing. The reflection of the ki orb danced off his face, before the orb would dissipate, due to his lack of focus. He looked around frantically for where it had gone.
"Huh? What happened to it?" He asked Maki.
