Quash woke up yet again with the same nightmare. Liari was plaguing his mind yet again. Maybe he needed to see somebody? Therapists were not at all commonplace on Vegeta, but who knows, maybe on Earth he could pick up a thing or two from it. What was it they do again? Something about talking through feelings and thoughts or whatever? Sounded exhausting. Emotionally and mentally. Fighting sounded a lot better (and fun!). He got up out of his bed and yet again slapped on his all too familiar weights. At this point, he might give them names. That’s right. Names for inanimate objects. Maybe something hilariously mundane, like uh… Frank or something.
Hearing an all too familiar meow, Quashs spirits rose pretty quickly. He went to rush out of his room, swinging the door open to find Jonathan waiting for him. He bent down to pick him up and gave him a big hug! He might’ve been a trained warrior, but he still had a soft spot for his new pet. His little
companion was in much better hands than that random lady’s. She was just letting him leave his feces everywhere like the world was his toilet! Gross! In the ship, Jonathan had his own little corner to do that kind of stuff, and Quash would regularly clean it.
As he cradled him in his arms, Quash would walk out of his room and down the hall. He’d lead him to pretty much just outside the Gravitron. There’d be a bowl of milk and… dinosaur meat? He had no idea what cats were supposed to eat, but he figured it would be fine. Cats were clearly a predator’s, those fangs weren’t just for show. He figured it’d be a good way for the cat to stay busy while he trained. Though, one thing Quash was noticing was that he was getting kind of… bigger? And he didn’t mean fat. The cat had clearly gained a lot of muscle since it started it’s dinosaur meat diet. He wondered if it was a good or a bad thing, but the Captain didn’t worry about it too much. A strong saiyan needed to have a strong partner anyways, right?
As the cat began to eat, Quash entered the Gravitron and shut the door behind him. Last thing he needed was Jonathan wandering in and getting crushed by 75x Earth’s Gravity. That wouldn’t be good. He turned on the artificial gravitron and waited for it to completely boot up before he got to work. He reminded himself that today was all about working on his close quarters combat. He needed to get a better form, more precise movements, smarter instinctual decisions, the works. This wasn’t going to be easy, but he’d preferred a challenge like most saiyans did.
He fired up the training dummy and immediately got to sparring. His fists clashed with metal as the battle quickly began to escalate. The dummy began to quickly adapt to Quash’s movements like it usually did, but with the Captain’s new battle prowess, the adaptation process was becoming a lot slower than he originally expected. This was a good sign, as it showed that he was becoming harder to keep up with and more difficult to read in battle. Quash couldn’t help but smile as he found that he was having a much easier time with the Training Dummy than he usually did. The two combatants were evenly matched despite the battle increasing in intensity. There were times where the battle even went in Quashs favor. It looked like he was able to outpace human ingenuity after all.
As he kept the robot guessing, eventually there would come a point where the robot was throwing lightning fast punches. Quash was starting to feel the pressure now, as he almost had no time to react. If he was going to take back the flow of the battle, he couldn’t wait to strike back. No, he had to create his own opportunity. As the next punch came in, Quash would seamlessly transition into a throw. Using the dummy’s weight against it, he’d send it over his shoulder and to the other side of the Gravitron. It would hit the wall with a loud bang that echoed across the room. The robot was sitting still, continuing to calculate before it decided what the next course of action was.
Quash kept at it for pretty much the rest of the day. There were times where he felt like he was on the losing end, but he was able to take back momentum again and again. Once the night rolled in, Quash once again called it a day. As he powered down his Gravitron and left, he opened the door and he found Jonathan sitting there again. Has he’d been sitting there the entire time? He had no idea, but he was nevertheless concerned for its wellbeing. It had a… really long time since he last fed him. He decided to feed him once again, feeling a little guilty. If he was going to have a pet, he would no doubt have to become more responsible. If something happened to him he didn’t know what he’d do.
Quash sat with his pet for the rest of night to make sure he was okay. He didn’t know if pets were supposed to have this effect, but he felt like he was able to relax a lot more around him. Plus, everything Jonathan was adorable! From the way it ate to the way it calmly licked its bowl. Its eyes were wide and full of wonder, it was just so precious! After a long night, Quash could tell he was going to regret this in the morning, if he could get up at all. He brought Jonathan with him to bed, thinking that it’d be better than isolating him all the time. The cat was laying right next to him beneath the covers and he was held tightly as he and his owner slowly began to drift off into sleep.
