After a lot of long years, Athren had finally been determined to improve upon his Nova Cannon. It's been a long time coming and a technique that's been with him since he was all but a small boy. It was the second technique he ever developed, the Nova Punch was the first as he was a born brawler. He truly loved being up close and personal and just facing an opponent with nothing more than his fists, but he was well aware that he needed more techniques up his sleeve. He needed techniques that could do damage out at a range, it was a necessity. If he could, he'd much rather stick to his fists but that wasn't an option in combat and even from a young age, he knew he'd need a variety of techniques to meet all circumstances.
At the moment in time Athren had found himself in his ship in the Gravity chamber, it was cranked up all the way to one hundred and seventy five times Earth's Gravity. His weights had been equipped and he had found himself in his super saiyan form. He was going to use this form for everything, until it was like second nature to him, until it felt normal and natural and no different that his base form. He wanted to make the best of every transformation and technique he had and to do that, he'd need to use them all and improve them all.
Along with him in the gravity chamber he had his training dummy, upgraded by the Yardrat's to provide him with an effective training device. Along with the performance upgrades and the energy shields, an energy absorption function was added to it. This would allow the training dummy to absorb all incoming energy attacks into it and disperse of them all safely. Given that this was set up in a ship, it was a wise feature to test on the ground before trying it in the stars.
If it were to fail, Athren would much rather have it happen on the surface of Yardrat than up in space, he could survive an explosion of his ship on land, but he couldn't breathe among the stars. That just wasn't a smart concept for him at all.
Athren couldn't help but think of what better time to test it out than right now with his Nova Cannon? If he ended up blowing up his ship, it wouldn't be like he'd be stuck on Yardrat until he could afford a new one, he could simply use his newly learned instant transmission technique to get back to Earth. Though there was a small risk of losing all his personal belongings, he found that it was well worth it to maximize on his training gains. He needed strength and power along with his techniques and skill to back it all up.
If he was going to face PTO controlled Namek alone, he couldn't let small risks hold him back. He needed to push boundaries of what he previously thought was possible and that wasn't just speaking of himself, but his training equipment too. He needed to push everything to the max and not stop until this Yardrat adventure was behind him. He needed to use every single second of time he could to make sure he was ready. He didn't know what he'd face on Namek, he didn't know who or what would be there to meet the Super Saiyan in battle, but what he did know was that he couldn't afford to lose it. He couldn't risk defeat.
After a very light stretching session, Athren was ready to get right to it. The training dummy was already set up. It's feet magnetized to the floor of the ship and it's energy absorption node in it's chest exposed and ready to consume anything and everything that Athren could dish out.
Athren wasn't going to take it easy either, he thought about using a basic energy attack to really test the water of this absorption feature but that really wasn't his style. He was going to risk it all and his first attack was really going to push the limits of this thing! He didn't have anything else of importance to lose, the only thing he could do now was gain! His right arm extended out slightly as an orange ball of Ki formed rapidly in his hand and once it got to size as it always did, Athren had put even more of his energy into it. Though he put more Ki into it, he made sure to keep the energy condensed. He didn't want the size of the technique itself to change, all he wanted to do was have it much stronger and quick to access.
Now that his technique was ready to fire in a more amplified version of what it was before, it was time to truly test the capabilities of the absorption nodes. With one step forward Athren launched his right hand towards his training dummy as as it flew he couldn't help but hope that this thing would actually hold up.
It didn't take long for his improved technique to travel the length of the room and collided with the training dummy and as it collided a bright light emitted from the absorption nodes and the attack struggled and slowly faded away into the dummy. It appeared that it had worked and Athren's ship was perfectly fine, it turned out Athren was rather lucky today. Though, there was one more step to go and it was going to be even stronger than the version he had just tossed it's way. He was going to push his technique further just one more time, amplify the damage output once more and make it even quicker to prepare, he wanted this technique nearly instant.
