Even if her heart was already broken by what was happening, hearing Liari's soft voice felt like someone was smashing with a hammer every remaining piece into a cloud of dust. Ayu... Oh, gods, why Liari was the only one she could ask to do this..? She shouldn't have. Burning guilt started to fill her throat, suspiciously having the same taste as blood. Her eyes were now closed and the murmur and rustle of plants were beginning to fill her ears. Ayu will forever blame herself for burdening her Bluebell with this decision... But there was no one else to turn to. Pleading someone to hit her or kill her if the situation would grow dire... Normally she wouldn't even dare think to trouble anyone so greatly. It was cruel and unjust and- No. No. Even Ayu knew that the situation called for it. Her own Ki was leaving her body at an alarming speed and in return, the plant life it created was going to swallow her whole. She needed to be reasonable, using the last moment of sobriety in her mind... Too many things depended on that. Too many...
There was no other solution and leaving things as they were could lead to tragedy taking more lives. The nearest life to her was Liari. It could very well be her existence or Ayu... And if she'd have to choose, she'd pick her blue sister's survival in a heartbeat. The problem was... She was ready to do the same for her. That dilemma was another heavy stone added to the avalanche. Ayu was aware that if she was going to stay in this pained state, she'd die at some point. Things could spiral into something worse, she could kill Liari, and what if the mass of roots won't stop when she'd die..? What if having taken all of her Ki they would roam the place only growing stronger? If knocking her out now could help her cut the connection she wouldn't hesitate at all. If that would mean she would stop hurting others she wouldn't mind putting her life at stake. Because... At this point, it wasn't worth too much, was it..? With that blood on her hands...
I know Bluebell, I-I know, Ayu's inner voice whispered fondly, reassuring her that Liari's resolve was as clear as day. It was her fault. She asked for it, and with that, she tried to comfort her sister... Praying that at least some of the guilt that was growing in the blue Majin would fade away. I'm s-so sorry, she murmured in her mind apologetically, feeling how she was starting to lose the clarity of her thoughts. The pain was starting to make her numb. Ayu didn't feel that the alive, green armor that was growing onto her body was becoming heavier. The twigs and bark grew thorns and coiled around her as if she was a marble statue and they were a stubborn ivy.
Liari's voice started to melt into the rustling of leaves and Ayu had to force every little bit of resolve to understand her words - otherwise, her senses could shut down just like that. Her whisper was so close when she joined their foreheads that she could hear everything, though she wasn't sure if her hearing wasn't playing tricks on her.
If it wasn't for you... It might h-have been s-so much worse. Ayu whispered, her eyelids refusing to open and she could only rely on what she has heard... And felt. Even if she didn't want to hear Liari talking about herself in this awful way, there was a limit to what she could do to comfort her. Ayu's weak voice was gentle and affectionate but the cracks and shakiness could not sound so convincing - but she tried to pour into that her every feeling. Liari was loved and cherished and she would never think of her like that... It was a tough choice but she trusted her. There's nothing t-that needs forgiving... She couldn't even hug her... Or held her hand or even look her in the eyes... Oh, gods, that felt like hell. Ayu's senses were getting duller as her energy was leaving her body but she could very well utter something she badly wanted to tell Bluebell. Love you. She whispered between one shallow, heavy sigh and another. Something warm touched her skin ad she felt the awaited sparks of energy ready to unleash a powerful explosion. Ayu could breathe with relief... Thank you.
The warm and then burning sensation of Liari's energy grew stronger, digging into her flesh... But this pain was so vivid and cleansing that it felt almost sweet compared to what she has felt before.
And as Ayu was laying unconscious in Liari's gentle grip, everything grew quiet. There was no rustling of leaves. The slithering of vines stopped, and the sound of the breaking ground didn't disturb the silence. Pieces of flora that were holding onto her so stubbornly now broke away with the lightest touch as if they were made of fallen, fragile leaves. It was so calm. The frenzied, powerful flora, the force of nature that knew no bounds halted every movement. Now the roots and trunks were just growing idly in one place as if a second ago they weren't going on a rampage. There was only a gentle breeze and nothing else moving the blades of grass.
The light of dawn started to shine on the world.
