She couldn't sleep. At all. Ayu was tossing the whole night, crumpling the covers and moving away from Bluebell so she wouldn't wake her up by accident when they both were resting on a plant-made hammock. Of course that she created a special bed for her grown-up little sister and most of the time they found themselves laying there together in the evenings, talking until both of them would drift to sleep... But today she ended up fully awake even before the sun started to appear on the horizon. As Ayu watched the soft, grey dawn, her mind started to wander again. She wasn't in her best shape... Lately, she began to have more in common with Liari than she'd like to admit - night tremors started to wake her up during the night too. They weren't full of panic like in Bluebell's case, just... Her chest was aching. Like a frantic drum, her heartbeat was rumbling in her temples and she could feel how the fluttering heart was smacking against her ribcage. Once or twice she woke up with rouge spots on her pillow and dried blood under her nose, which did not at all help her uneasiness. Whatever was happening to her since her Ki started to grow, obviously was getting worse with time. That was something easy to predict, but Ayu started to be afraid... What will happen when the energy would grow too strong..? Bluebell assured her that deep down she was a very powerful being and could do great things, just... What was the point if that force was hurting her from the inside? Because that's what it was.
Ayu silently rolled off the bed and softly walked inside the kitchen, trying to not make any sound. Through the open window, a fresh cold breeze scented with resin and grass entered the room, shaking off the rest of her sleepiness. Seemed there would be no time to rest today... The young woman had plans, so perhaps it was for the best? She could use some time alone... Not that she'd have anything against Bluebell, just the fact that she was feeling worse with every day was putting her in an unpleasant spot. She'd hate to worry her sister more... And the tight sensation in her chest only proved that something could happen to her again. And soon. Sighing, Ayu scratched her cheek, wondering if there is any doctor who could have helped her out - the one from North City wasn't exactly focused on Ki-related matters. Was there anyone who could examine her energy..? Probably not. After a shower and a change of her clothing, she prepared breakfast for Liari, leaving a note with a green heart that she was going to train by herself and will be back before noon. With that, she packed the books she needed, tied the wrappings of weighted clothing, and ventured into the forest. Her steps naturally guided her into the cave where the ship was placed.
At this hour the forest was calm. The cold dew formed on the blades of grass was wetting her shoes and a gentle fog was falling on the level of her knees, making her take every step carefully. Ayu knew the place better than the palm of her hand, she remembered where every nook and cranny was - where roots would twist and where the ferns would start to grow... It didn't stop her from being cautious of every step taken on slippery grass. The grey light of dawn gave the woods a somewhat eerie aura. Lots of animals were roaming around at this hour, predators ready to hunt, birds chirping at the very first sun ray appearing above the trees... Ayu could listen to those sounds for hours, but there were more important things to do. She dived in between the bushes, wading through the sea of leaves. At the end of this path, the curtain of green was waiting for her, and behind that, a cave illuminated by luminescent moss and fungus... A familiar, comforting sight - an old ship was still standing at the same spot where Ayu left it last time. She didn't know what would she have done without it.
Opening the hatch, Ayu walked inside, placed the bag on the side, and was about to walk to the control panel... When she noticed something that wasn't on the ship before.
Anxiously, she stared at something that was looking like... A robot? The thing was taller than her, twice as wide, full of plates, and dressed in shiny armor. She could tell where the joints and wires were, alongside the core of this thing, but that was all. High technology wasn't her thing, but Ayu tilted her head curiously, still concerned about how would that thing appear here. The mechanism seemed to be new and polished, the shape vaguely resembled a humanoid rooted with their legs into a set of wheels. The arms were tacky, equipped with something that looked like thick, leathery pillows in the place of hands. There was even a control screen and a tiny book was laying on it... Ayu blinked, carefully shortening the distance. With her hand shaking, the young woman reached towards it, snatching the thing quickly and gazing at the robot - but it didn't move. Was Ayu paranoid at this point..? She sighed with relief and opened the pamphlet, browsing through the pages. After a moment her eyes showed nothing but puzzlement.
"A Programmable Traning Dummy?" she read it out loud and glanced at the robot, who of course, remained silent. The young woman scratched her cheek. Whatever she was going to do with it? She didn't know how to fight, like at all... And programming a robot to follow a certain program was beyond her capabilities too. Maybe Ayu was old-fashioned, but the technology was a mystery to her - she only knew how to set the Gravity Chamber because Mister Tabu showed her how it was done earlier. "I'm sorry..." she said to the Dummy and gently patted its arm. "I don't think I can use you. Who brought you here anyway..?" she asked with a smile, not expecting any answer. Maybe she should stop talking to inanimate objects. She had her suspicion now who placed it here, but it's not like that would make her use it - at least now. Ayu nodded to herself and walked towards the control panel of the ship, turning it on and browsing through the options. The gravity she was using lately was the highest possible setting... Was that bad? Or good? She stroked her cheek. Each time she finished training here, it made her feel light as a feather, but with time the gravity wasn't as jamming as before. Or maybe she was imagining things?
With a series of clicks and taps, the screen lit up, showing her the counter until the intense gravity would kick in. Ayu took a deep sigh, clenching her teeth and fists - she couldn't stand that sensation, but that was the only thing that could keep her energy in check long enough for her to train... And when the pressure rose, she was again pushed to her knees, but this time she hasn't given in so easily. Instead of being flattened on the ground, taking her time to get back on her feet, she remained kneeling, supporting herself on her arms long enough for the first shock to pass. She shook her head. It... Wasn't as hard as the first time. Ayu slowly pulled herself up, feeling how the omnipresent force was trying to squeeze her every muscle, cracking her bones and attempting to press her breath out of her lungs. She would never get used to this sensation, with air dense as cream... Slowly. Again, slowly. Walking it off, Ayu toddled towards the bag she left next to the wall, bringing it with her to the center of the chamber. She sat on the floor crossing her legs, pulling the thick tomes out of the sack and checking the titles. Everything was here.
It might have been another one of her ideas. But... Electromagnetic impulses did sound a little weird, yet there was something to it. The field of that energy around the Earth was influencing everything, alongside the growth of the plants, and every species of flora were able to generate very weak impulses like that. If she could alter their biology to make a flower petal as sharp as a blade, it shouldn't be hard to recreate that impulse... But the main question was - why? That's what Ayu wanted to know. What would she gain from the ability to influence plants' electromagnetic fields... Or anyone's for that matter? The books were just for that. Without hesitation, paying no mind to the gravity still pressing on her shoulders, she started reading chapter after chapter. Any neurons in a living body were transmitting information to the brain through electric impulses, and some organs were emitting weak magnetic fields. It all came together. Ayu browsed book by book, trying to figure out what could she use it for, and then she remembered that sleep was basically electric activity in the brain, tiny outbursts of energy influencing the brainwaves. Could she put to sleep anyone with that? She stroked her cheek thoughtfully. It would be great to help Liari sleep through the whole night, but she wasn't so sure if that technique would work on her peculiar biology. Anyway, Ayu knew what she wanted to try learning - the question was only, how?
Impulse... Electromagnetic impulse. The young woman scratched her cheek while gazing at the floor in front of her. There were special measuring tools for that, but she was short on those. It's not like she could create an impulse and try to make a plant sleepy, the difference in biology made it too difficult. The young woman was seriously pondering her issue when her gaze stopped at the robot in the corner of the Gravity Chamber. Maybe..? If it was an electromagnetic impulse it should work on inorganic beings too, in a very similar way then on living beings. After all, it was just a zap of very mild electricity, to put it simply. Ayu stood up from the spot she was reading and decided to walk toward the robot, checking the control panel. If she would turn it on, trying to gently mess with the current in the wires, she wouldn't hurt the machine, right? Well, most likely. Ayu scratched her cheek, looking at the little screen on the robot's torso... Hm... Maybe she should press that? She touched the green button and suddenly steam was freed from the pistons and the control panel was covered by a piece of armor, diodes lit up and the machinery moved.
... Dummy was activated.
And then it's started attacking. It took her by surprise, but the robot moved quicker than she could have ever expected. Another pair of mechanic limbs sprouted from the side and all four of them started hitting Ayu. A swing to the side left her breathless, while another knock on her jaw send her on her back. That... Completely startled unprepared soul. It wouldn't be so bad if she had the time to dust herself and stand up, because with a squeak of the wheels the Dummy followed her... By the gods, what even was that thing? Ayu quickly rolled to the side and leaped on both of her feet, but the mechanism was right in front of her, swinging all four robotic limbs towards her torso. The solution was simple - dodge. Yet, her performance was far from perfect. The footwork was messy and the instinct kicked in, but it didn't mean that Ayu was any good at that... She will get bruised, that's for sure. The forced dodging practice continued while she was jumping around, trying to avert every hit that was aimed at her. When she tried to duck, another hand was swinging at her from the ground level, each time Ayu tried to bounce away, the dummy was already following her... How could she turn off that robot? if that's going to continue, she'd have to immobilize it with plants, because it was so persistent... Deep down Ayu started to panic inside. What if she'd be unable to deactivate the Dummy? She wasn't the best with technology, she really wasn't...
But the dodging practice, unpleasant and sudden as it was, turned out to be quite the workout. With the increased gravity, Ayu started to sweat right away, her movements were slower than usual and her reactions weren't top-notch either... And knowing that she wasn't even a type that would train to fight, well, that was telling enough. But she was doing her best, trying to be as flexible as possible, swift on her feet, and not limit herself to simply moving out of the way of robotic limbs. Still, Ayu wasn't always lucky. With every step and jump, she started to see the pattern, but her movements were still chaotic and unorderly - she wasn't a skilled warrior after all. She lacked the instinct to fight, though dodging was something natural and she tried to utilize her own reflexes... But she was pushed away by the robot way more times than she'd like to admit. Each hit was squeezing the dense air out of her lungs, she could feel a burning sensation on her shoulder and her left cheek. Perhaps, so absorbed in dodging Ayu forgot the initial reason for this training. It wasn't a lesson on how to avoid being hit, she wanted to try sending the impulse to the machine! J-Just when... All she could do right now was to dodge rather than focus on her energy - but that was quite okay. If she will ever be in a real-life fight, the opponent won't wait for her to prepare to strike, wasn't that right? Concentrating on her Ki while jumping around as the floor was heated like magma, Ayu was looking for the right moment. Just one second...
Here it was! She extended her hand and sent the impulse straight into the torso of the Dummy... For a very brief moment, the diode on the screen flickered and the moves of the robot were sluggish just for a second. It wasn't quite the outcome she was aiming for, but it was good enough for the first try! Though Ayu forgot that it worked for only a moment and another hit to her stomach caught her by surprise. Robot threw her like a rag doll on the other side of the ship and wheezing, Ayu bounced back on her feet. She needs to focus more...
But it worked! Maybe her ideas weren't so random after all... Perhaps she had no clue how to throw a proper punch and her posture was still all wrong, but it didn't mean she wasn't going to help others. Everything she learned so far was dedicated to aiding someone else - or perhaps herself - when the time would come. Maybe Ayu was getting paranoid a bit, but she didn't like what was happening on Earth right now. So many different Ki signatures blooming all around the planet so seemed uninterested in anything, others felt straight-up malicious. It made her skin crawl. What good does her power give her when she can't even use it properly? She's nothing but a defective container of excessive Ki, that cracks every time she uses her energy. She could feel it - and that was what was scaring Ayu the most.
Of course, that Dummy did not wait for her to finish her train of thoughts. Ayu was doing her best to deflect incoming hits, dodging what she could and trying to get back from the floor as soon as she was hit. It worked - well enough. She got another two occasions to send the impulse and this time the diodes flickered for longer. The results were clear - the robot became slower, and with every try, the time of this sluggishness was extended, to the point when Ayu could safely increase the distance. It was kind of... Amusing to see the robot swaying gently on the wheels in her direction, while she could pass it with her walking speed. Though the impulse wasn't working for long and soon enough the Dummy was back to its resolve to hitting the daylight out of her. Maybe she really should stop it with vines? Or she should work on the stronger impulse because the slowed-down robot suddenly hastened its movements and metallic arm sunk into her abdomen, throwing Ayu like ten feet away. Oh, that wasn't pleasant in the slightest...
"Could you just... Stop for a moment?" she mumbled softly, massaging her stomach. Good that she never ate breakfast this early morning, otherwise, it would be all over the floor today... She was on her guard, but strangely, the Dummy hasn't followed her yet. To her surprise, as Ayu said that, the diode on the robot flickered and she heard a synthetic, indifferent voice made by the operating program of the machine speaking back to her.
"Halting the Training Procedure. Resuming the activity in ten minutes," it said and the machine froze completely. It wasn't turned off, just in a standby mode, most likely. Ayu blinked, processing what just happened as she walked towards the pile of books on the floor. She picked up the tiny instruction pamphlet and browsed it again... Right. There it was. The voice protocol allows for using verbal comments without typing them into the programming... How did she miss it before? She sighed and shook her head, one of her hands stroking her temples. A valuable lesson to read a pamphlet about operating any new items, before trying to use them... Still, she was able to slow down the Dummy a bit with her energy. That counts as something - and if she keeps it up, who knows? Maybe she'd be able to deactivate it for a moment, and without using a verbal command? She needed to try.

Rubbing her aching stomach, Ayu leaned down to put the instruction book on top of the tomes she brought here with her. A small pile of knowledge miraculously stayed intact while the whole ordeal with dodging was taking place. She'd need to study that pamphlet later, making sure that she would know how to operate the Dummy in the future... It could have been easier to just stop it from attacking her, simply having it turn on for the practice. Focusing on her energy would prove more effective like that. And this way, Ayu wouldn't have to take a beating from the cold machine - but... So be it. It surely would be easier if she'd focus only on the Ki at play, trying to halt the robot's movements, yet life was never that easy. Gods know she could use some actual physical practice. Aside from gardening and occasional training with Liari, her body's performance was rather low... Though she wasn't feeling that well to do some heavy-duty workout, trying to be nimble and quick on her feet could prove helpful. Especially here, in Gravity Chamber, where every move was straining her body by many times over... Just bouncing off the ground and trying to keep herself moving, so she wouldn't end up more bruised than she already was. Were people who deemed themselves warriors doing this type of training every day? That... Was harsh.
Ayu shook her head, looking down at the palms of her hands. The tip of her finger stroked the lines that appeared on her skin, half an inch thick, pale stripes forming a peculiar pattern. They were glowing very subtly with a warm, weak light. She spotted it way later than she'd like to admit, but something told her that it appeared each time she used lots of her energy. Or more Ki than needed was placed outside her body for a certain effect? The flow of life in her body was twisted already, so she couldn't even find words to describe the algorithm behind it. It was hard to tell, but anyway, Ayu realized that she wasn't looking exactly normal while using all of the layers of her energy. And as her signature was betraying, she got quite a lot of types of Ki too... She sighed gently, patting her cheeks to focus her mind on the present. A spark flickered between her fingers, an impulse she created earlier. Ayu could very well make it bigger or smaller, but the main issue was to make it the most effective. Short-circuiting programming or a brain felt quite... Disgusting, but the procedure was harmless. She wanted to make someone drowsy, weaken them for just a moment so their guard would drop... The main reason was still the idea, that perhaps she'd be able to help Bluebell sleep through the whole night - and with a tiny bit of luck, she could survive the next night, without waking up with a nosebleed or a pained chest. Let's be honest about it. Ayu couldn't bring herself to harm others. It was as simple as that, even if deep down she was aware that only she might have this life philosophy. Quite flawed ideology. She had this deep respect for any living being, trying to live her best without hurting another person or being... Just, judging by what she heard from different people, it was a very unusual and unneeded pacifist approach to the way how the world worked. Some could call it naivety, others maturity... Ayu herself wasn't sure where she was standing. In nature, fights to death only occurred on fixed rules. Eat or be eaten. When the predator was killing the prey when the animals fought back while being threatened or defending their young ones or family. It was as simple as that. When she was thinking about it... Would Ayu be able to kill someone in her's or someone else's defense? A cold shiver danced on her back and a nauseous feeling tied her stomach into a knot when she thought about it. If she like it or not, one day she might have been in this situation, where no other option would guarantee her or others safety. To think that the world could actually make her feel like this... That was true that the stronger were praying on the weak - but they were doing so to survive. To feed themselves. They took no more than they needed, never killing for sport, never maiming others for pleasure. Never scavenging to sate their greed.
Ayu found comfort in those simplistic ideals, while the world around was playing complicated mind games and making schemes in the dark.
She sighed as the counter for the Dummy started to ring, telling her that in ten seconds the programming will continue the procedure. More dodging and getting hit... Ayu took a deep breath, slowly exhaling the air from her lungs. The pressure wasn't letting itself be forgotten, hitting her shoulders and legs with every move. Tensed muscles at times rebelled to move the way she wanted, but it all needed practice. Stroking the hair out of her face, and stretching her arms, the young woman started to gather energy in her palms. The powder green skin lit up with that glow again... And with a soft ping, the robot was turned back on, diodes lit up and the well-made machinery almost soundlessly started to move again. Without missing a beat, it rolled in her direction, aiming straight for her torso with a chain of hits, but this time Ayu was ready - well, she was better prepared than the last time, that was it. Twirling to the side the arm of the robot stroke her side and she was able to dodge another hit, even if the third move landed on her shoulder and pushed her away. She gasped, sharply inhaling the air, and ducked to avoid being hit in the face - only to instinctively jump away when the Dummy hit the ground so hard, the tiles cracked. That was getting out of hand, was it..? Ayu charged energy in her hand and aimed her open palm at the robot, sending another impulse - the diodes turned off. She stopped, abruptly freezing on her tiptoes while intensively gazing at the mechanism. Did... Did she turn it off? With her Ki, just like that? Nope. False alarm. Dummy got back to life and used the moment when she was distracted, to sink both of its arms in her ribs, sending Ayu again to the floor. Ah, she was bad at this... She wiped her mouth quickly, getting back on her feet and charging another impulse. Seems that this will be how she is going to spend her morning. Getting hit by a robot while trying to deactivate it without any verbal command.
She would need luck.
The spark of her energy started to crack in her hand like a tiny flame. Despite Ki taking the form of an impulse, the sound was similar to fire... Or was it a crackling noise of electricity? No matter. Ayu sent it again towards the Dummy and once more, the robot froze for a brief moment. The core shortcircuited, resetting, or rather blacking out for a second - when the effect of her technique passed, the robot was back on its merry way to give her another beating. It wasn't changing the memory or wiping out the objective - good. What was best, it did not cause any damage to the operating system, which Ayu met with another sigh of relief. She wanted to lessen someone's fighting spirit, making them drowsy and at best, putting them to sleep. The last thing she'd want was to cause harm to someone under influence of her technique. Falling asleep without a warning seemed already dangerous enough... One could argue if she should think about her opponents this way, but it would be simply not fair to damage a sleeping, defenseless person. Even if that was only her personal opinion. Not like Ayu was planning on hurting anyone, treating this ability as her last resort.
Her legs were sore already, but she started to get used to this feeling. The burning sensation in her tights and knees was at first affecting her movements, but now it was strangely warming up her body - she didn't hate this feeling, but something told her she'd need a long soak in the shower after today's training. Ayu couldn't fly. She couldn't as easily dodge the hits as someone able to soar above the ground... But she had to mimic it to make it work. Spend as little time as possible with her feet on the floor, constantly moving, bouncing off, leaping between the arms that were trying to hit her... W-wait. Balancing on one leg, she even made a quick flip, sending an impulse to the robot's core just in the middle of this gymnastic figure. Since when she was able to do that..? Ayu stopped glancing at herself, taking a moment while the robot blacked out. She didn't gain any muscle mass, not a noticeable amount at least. And the gravity... And her body was still strained because of the overflowing energy that was messing up her health... Yet she still was able to act like that? That wasn't normal. Part of her was lighter when she realized that she could do that, but deep down... She was horrified. Another unusual ability, another change to her body she couldn't control. That wasn't puberty. Ayu shook her head and jumped away, just in time to avoid the Dummy charging at her at full speed. Time for overthinking will come later, now she needed to focus.
With clenched fists, Ayu returned to her training. It was sloppy, true, her moves weren't polished, but there was room for improvement. That's what she liked to believe... Maybe it was her concentration or the way that she was utilizing her Ki, she was feeling better when she moved. Hopefully, the tension in her body would lessen if she'd get physically stronger. Maybe. Perhaps? Though no way that her soft, petite frame would match Ki worthy a warrior... After many days she started to understand that. Her body wasn't fit for all that overgrowing energy, leaking out and straining her health - Ayu was a type of a bookworm. She was regularly taking trips to the forest and gardening, so her physical abilities weren't the worst, but she was far behind skilled warriors. And yet, her energy was growing. And growing. At an alarming pace to that, leaving her confused and scared... She hoped that with a bit of training, if her body would get stronger, she'd be able to contain all that Ki somewhat better, but it didn't change the thing. It seemed that the fitness of her body wasn't the problem here, but something else, just... Just what? What was she... Ah, every time she started to think about it, the young woman couldn't help but feel a bitter taste in her mouth. So many questions and no answers.
When the robot approached her with great speed, Ayu jumped, vaulting above the head of the Dummy and landing gracefully on another side. Huh. Not bad. She was balancing with outstretched arms, trying to not fall on the floor - all this leaping and dodging was making her heartbeat race and sometimes dizziness was dancing in her eyes. Ayu couldn't exactly say if she was aching because of the soreness of gravity and training, or was something else making her feel tired, but... She couldn't give up here. Not yet. She gently waved at the Dummy before it could even hit her, freezing it for longer than before. Impulse appeared right there where she wanted it to - but it still was weaker than she'd like. That would be tough, making sure that the technique was potent enough, but was still harmless to a being affected by it. Ayu rubbed her cheek and took two steps back, admiring her work. With every attempt, she was able to prolong the blackout, gaining more time for reaction before the robot would get back to its duty, and that was chasing after her and trying to smack her down. She was getting hit less too. It wasn't a formidable difference though and her ribs and sides were in pain already, but she was polishing her ability still - so no complaining here.
The whole mystery of the impulse was that it was induced by Ki, provoking a certain response consisting of an electromagnetic field shifting in the area of the brain or core... To put it simply, it was a tiny, harmless discharge. The most tricky part for Ayu was to adjust the amount of her energy and make it work in the way she intended it to work - but like in Purify's case, or even when she was making an invisible barrier, it all depended on how she utilized her energy. Intensity. Density. Flow. Each time she struck the Dummy with the impulse, she was slightly modifying one of those factors and noting down in her head any noticeable changes. Too dense Ki could damage the robot, so it was no way to go. The intensity would need to be adjusted correctly, otherwise, she might have made the sleep mode deeper and longer without it being her intention. And the flow... Flow affected how easily the impulse was going to interact with the influenced area. If it was too matching, the impulse would go unnoticed - the main idea was to create a shortcircuiting spark. Indeed, it was a lot to think about it, and Ayu was trying all the possibilities while simultaneously dodging a very persistent mechanic sparring partner.
Again. And again. Hits weren't getting any faster, as the programming was locked on certain settings, but Ayu was grateful for that. She wasn't that crazy to go all out, she was already pretty sore. Now and then a stronger push would send her flying to another side of the Gravity Chamber. The fact that she started training with a special Dummy did not mean at all that she was any good at it... So dodging was all she could do. There were times when she would show off her agility, leaping in the air and swiftly avoiding the incoming hit - or she'd get a square swing to her stomach, spitting saliva and losing her breath. Maybe this type of training wasn't the best idea... But it was too late to back out of it. Ayu would wipe her face and sweated forehead, pulling behind her ears wet locks of hair. Because mostly her every training could be titled 'I have no idea what I'm doing', she had to rely on her instinct and reflexes. They weren't that good either - she wasn't trained in any martial arts or she did not have a warrior's mind - but it was a better start than anything else. And it was working... For most parts.
The more impulses Ayu created, the easier it was for her to craft the formula for the one that would be the most effective. And indeed, with every use of her technique, the Dummy was out of commission for longer. At first, the time was prolonged by mere seconds, but when she had a minute break before the programming turned back on, Ayu started scratching her cheek thoughtfully. That was great, but... She needed something more potent. Would that be even possible? Making a person drowsy in a fight for a whole minute was a feat on its own, but could she make them fall asleep, fully? Despite the raging blast and adrenaline boiling in the blood? She'd like to try. At least being on the move, constantly attacked by the Dummy helped her have her focus in check, even if the gravity at times was more than enough to make her exhausted.
Ayu jumped and bounced off the wall, turning around before she would land and stretching her hand. Impulse charged up and appeared in the Dummy's wires. With a mechanic grind noise and the sound of pistons slowing down, the lights in diodes died out again. Another deserved break. She landed on both of her feet, grimacing when she felt how sore and bruised she was... The marks on her body will soon fade away, but the exhaustion was sinking in her muscles for good. Her regeneration ability wouldn't be able to get rid of it so easily... But. Ayu raised her head, eyes gleaming in the ship's light. She rubbed her hands together, discharges of her Ki like soft glitter glistened in the air. The pattern on her skin appeared again when her palms warmed up with energy. She was ready to try again until the desired outcome will appear.
It has to.

The longer the practice took, the more Ayu began to see that she needed to polish her timing. She might have not possessed much experience in battles and she lacked fighters instinct, but that much was obvious. Time was crucial. While she jumped around, dodging and rolling away from the Dummy, she had to prepare the impulse for her strike - but the speed of it affecting the machine wasn't ideal. In fact, the moments of her creating the said spark and it shortcircuiting the robot weren't overlapping. There were seconds of delay, and right now at training it didn't seem like a big deal - yet in a real event, it could prove unfavorable on her side. Now, how to tackle that issues? Well, Ayu needed to figure it out while looking out to not be tackled herself by the Dummy. She still needed to make the impulse stronger, so it would create a longer blackout, but at the same time, it needed to be faster, and more effective... Easier said than done, but she was here in the Namekian Ship, inside Gravity Chamber for exactly that reason. Practice. And she wasn't leaving until she could scribble that technique out of her list.
Being constantly in motion started to affect her body. She was heated up, with sweat gluing her hair to her forehead and soaking the clothes. The sensation was gross, but she couldn't stop the practice simply because she felt uncomfortable. Muscles and blood warmed up, even the soreness after practice started to feel less like trouble but more like a part of training. If she couldn't work her way with technique while dodging like that, what would she be able to do? With every step, it was slightly easier. Not a lot, not a little, just very, very slightly... But Ayu found herself being hit less and she was more often in the air than she expected. Her feet bounced off the ground with every step while she was keeping her distance from the persistent machine, never attacking, only avoiding the swings of the robotic arms. Everything was alright as Ayu was still moving - because if she was stopping during the blackout breaks, her muscles were easily getting stiff. She was rubbing her arms and tights, stretching her fingers and trouting in place. The gravity was pushing her down, making it feel like even the sweat was adding more weight to her posture, while the only thing she carried was her clothes. Weighted clothes to be fair, but she couldn't afford to be without them, not with her unstable energy. That was simply something she needed to train with, whether she liked it or not.
She caught herself thinking about others. She met quite a few warriors, people of various races focused on getting stronger and seeking power by different means - but mostly they wanted to obtain their goals through notorious, strict training. Sometimes she didn't even have to hear about it, Ayu could with one look tell that they sacrificed a lot to become stronger. Judging by their behavior and musculature, they were practicing relentlessly... She could feel that within their power level. Not only that of course, Ayu saw it with the way they were moving, with balanced gestures betraying that they had perfect control of every muscle in their bodies. Sometimes she wondered, what kind of hellish workouts were they going through? She heard about the Saiyan Army, and Quash mentioned that he was a Capitan there, which left her pondering. Saiyans on their own were a warrior race, so training and fights were in their blood, in their routine. Some did not want to be left behind like Mister Tabu or Maycair, but most individuals with Saiyan blood were the ones adamant about gaining more power. They must have been undergoing training in way harsher conditions than she ever tried to reach their goals... Assuming whatever Ayu was doing right now could count as training in their eyes.
It certainly was a practice to her, though the difficulty could be debated. The Dummy was chasing her around the whole Chamber, and Ayu was trying to swiftly avoid the hits, sometimes not moving as fast or as gracefully as she would like to. Her hands were full of impulses - or rather tiny, not bigger than the head of a pin, sparkling orbs of energy dancing in it. The gold Ki was pulsing softly, a glow on her body showing that Ayu was serious about this training. Each time she threw it at the robot, it was zapped with her technique, stopping in the middle of the move. Yet, something was off. It felt like the effectiveness was stagnating, the moments of sleep weren't getting longer... Like she was stuck at this one point. She rubbed her chin but needed to jump away from the robot's arm, there was no time for idle pondering - she needed to think while moving. Was she training the wrong way? Maybe, but the sparks she created proved to work so far, so... No, it wasn't that. She shouldn't concentrate on sending the impulses by throwing them, but should rather focus on creating them in the Dummy. It wasn't about aim, but precision. Let's try again. The orbs disappeared from her hands, leaving only the glowing pattern on the skin. Ayu's palm warmed up when she rubbed them, ducking again to avoid being swept from her feet. She dived under the robot's arm and jumped at the torso from behind, focusing on creating the impulse there. There was a sensation of her Ki sparkling and she felt something. Something?
Ayu looked at the Dummy... The program turned off. She held her breath, counting how long the blackout would take, keeping her mental notes updated. When she reached five minutes, Ayu clenched her fists, raising them to her chest, and happily jumped in place. That was the longest time so far! Seems she was doing well enough. Though she did not realize that by leaping in the same spot she was standing, she could hit the robot with her shoulder. Murmuring something to herself, Ayu rubbed her arm only to feel a sharp pain in her side right after. The Dummy used her lack of concentration to send her on the floor again... But it shouldn't be activated. Ayu shook her head quickly and jumped back on her feet, already telling how big of a bruise she was going to have on her waist. Was it because she hit it before? Narrowing her eyes Ayu waited for another occasion to shove the impulse inside the vires, rendering the robot immobile for a moment. Right. If that theory was correct, if she would hit it, it would turn on again? Kind of like the old TV that Zhang used to have, which was constantly not working. Carefully she approached the Dummy and raised her leg, to kick one of the arms - jumping away right after, because the same arm swung at her with dangerous force. Point taken. After someone or something would be put to sleep this way, they would wake up instantly if they were disturbed like that. To be fair anyone would wake up after being kicked, but it was good to know what kind of limits her technique got.
With that in her mind, the plan for the rest of the training was fairly easy. Try to create an impulse so strong, that it would knock out the opponent for the longest time possible... Ayu clapped her hands and patted her cheeks to stay sharp and focused. Gravity was still messing with her balance and was making it more difficult to move, but that was no excuse to stop the training. The worse the conditions were becoming, the more determined she was to try one more time... And again, and again. She had to duck and jump a lot because the relentless robot was after her all the time. Ayu quickly realized that she should keep it away from the walls and the pile of books in the middle of the Gravity Chamber. Also, away from the floor - she needed to direct the hits away from any surface, so they would hurl into the air... At the same time doing her best to not be in the air in this exact spot where the swing was aiming. The Dummy appeared to be stronger than she thought at first - because how else would she explain the cracks made in the floor and walls? She was lucky she had no bone broken... Yet. Ayu didn't plan to get hit, but she wasn't as precise or as fast to avoid everything, so she was already getting sore and bruised. No pain no gain, as the saying goes.
Gathering energy was another story. The lines of her skin were still there, perhaps as a form of expressing that Ayu was using a low amount of her energy or aura - the flow of Ki wasn't surrounding her, but mostly swirling inside her. The pattern was a side effect that she couldn't quite control, so she decided not to pay it any mind. It didn't matter how she looked as long as she was able to learn more about controlling energy - even if it was just a simple, yet tricky sleeping technique. The Ki she used needed to be accurate, so the impulse created wouldn't be too strong nor too weak - it needed to be just right. Ayu had to master this skill to avoid causing any harm by accident. The main reason for learning that technique was to be able to calm down and put to sleep anyone, without creating any damage... The overflowing energy was so tricky. Sometimes it felt like she needed to pour a drop from an enormous and heavy container... That kind of made a lot of sense.
Focusing energy on her fingertips for precision, she jumped to bounce off the wall and leap above the robot swiftly. Ayu stretched her hand and placed an open palm above the Dummy's head - or whatever it was, the main computer, perhaps? Still in the midair, the young woman sent the impulse, feeling how her hand now felt hot from the whole morning of practicing using her Ki. She landed on the other side of the floor, quickly straightening back and turning her pale yellow gaze at the robot.
With the full of anticipation silence, Ayu was counting the minutes... And it worked great! She could sigh with relief. The Dummy turned off for the longest it could... She scratched her cheek thoughtfully, breathing deeply and looking at the mechanism. Quite a workout it was, but it was important to learn about the boundaries of her technique. The conclusion was simple - she could put the robot to sleep for long enough to do something else, but if the mechanism was hit the impulse of energy she sent was backfiring, waking up the Dummy instantly. She commended the robot to turn off when the blackout time passed and it was again ready to strike - that was enough for today. The Dummy obediently put out the lights in the diodes and folded all four of its arms. Ayu was sticky and tired and needed a shower... Perhaps she should practice some more, just to feel safe about her skills, but noon was approaching and she needed to get back home to make dinner. Ayu did repeat this technique a few times, so she was certain that it would work anyway, though it wouldn't hurt to try it out more next time. Nodding to herself, she wanted to approach the control panel of the ship and turn off the Gravity Chamber but found herself still standing in place. Wiping the sweat from her face and trying to even her breathing, the young woman slowly placed her hand above her heart.
The pressure in her chest started to grow and nothing pointed to it being caused by the increased gravity. It shouldn't be, she was here already so many times... Ayu felt how her heart was starting to burn as if the heated blood it was pumping had begun to steal away her strength. She shivered. The beating sensation in her temples was now rising and she felt her legs growing weak. Was it because of gravity? Did Ayu overdo it in her training..? But she felt fine enough to continue a second ago... She had to rest her back on the wall, slowly sliding down until she could only pull her knees closer. With a shaking hand, the young woman pulled away a lock of her hair from her face, her forehead warming up. Ayu... Knew that feeling. It happened before, but not as strong and it didn't rise so slowly. Before, each time she tried to sense her energy, she was greeted with a sharp headache and numbing pain, so she stopped trying to assess the level of her Ki... She didn't do anything related to that for weeks, and now a very similar sensation started to sink into her body. Her eyes teared up, so she closed them, nauseating anxiety making it hard to breathe. Something irritated her throat, so she covered her mouth to cough... Only to feel an unpleasant taste on her tongue and something wet on her skin.
She coughed up blood mixed with saliva, a dark, rouge-colored spot on her hand. Ayu gazed at it with a careworn look in her eyes, wiping her lips with her thumb and slowly looking for a clean handkerchief in her pockets. She pulled a piece of cloth behind her belt, cleaning the palm of her hand. Her throat and chest were burning, but the salty, metallic aftertaste of blood wasn't going away from her tongue. Ayu shook her head, ruffling her green hair in a tired confusion. She must have pushed herself too much today... The stronger she was getting, the weaker she felt. It was like her body was breaking down the more energy she developed inside. The Ki leaking from her created some soft vines that wrapped around her ankles as she sat on the ship's cold floor. The bindweed softly bloomed, tendrils holding onto her clothes. Ayu rested her head on the wall, closing her eyes, trying to distract herself from the pain and fear. Was she dying..? That felt so ridiculous maybe there was some truth to that. There was nothing she knew about her condition, only that it was tied to her inability to control energy. Or rather, her body wasn't suited for containing all that power. Liari kept telling her how strong she was, but Ayu knew that this strength was actually sapping away her health from her. Ironic. Ayu quickly wiped the corners of her eyes, not wanting to cry here, not now... But the sense of futility and dread seemed to fill her to the point of choking. And she wanted to learn more, training to be of use to her little sister and others. Perhaps it was a vain hope? How could she aid anyone if she couldn't even help herself..? She'd sooner hurt herself or people standing near her before she could do anything worthwhile with her power.
"... That can't be good," Ayu whispered to herself, gazing at the handkerchief with blood stains on it. She slowly fold it back and hid it in her pocket, focusing on quieting down her ragged breathing. It took longer than she'd like to admit, but Ayu was finally able to stand up and walk toward the control panel of the ship. She turned off the gravity settings and silently walked towards the pile of books in the middle of the floor. Without much thought, almost unconsciously, she packed her belongings back into the bag, picked up the tangle of bindweed that her Ki made, and walked towards the hatch. Lights were turned off and the door was closed. The inactive Dummy was standing inside the Gravity Chamber in complete silence, waiting for the next training session in the future, but...
Maybe it would be better for Ayu, to have a small break from every type of exercise. She needed to rest... To figure out what was wrong with her before she could start thinking about acting again.
