Quash woke up in a much better head space than he did last time. Not only that, but he didn’t bleed through his bandages again. Thank goodness. He got up and stretched out, getting ready for another day of hard training. He looked back at his bed, clean as a whistle. So far so good. He walked over to his closet and opened it, grabbing his Three-Section-Staff before heading down the Gravitron yet again. Today, he was going to work on practicing his movements with the staff again.
When the time came to fight Liari again, he needed to be able to use this weapon to its full potential. Or at least as close as it could be to its full potential. It was a tough weapon that was hard to master. Still, he told himself that he’d do it. He swore that he’d never let anyone get to him the way Liari managed to ever again. That he’d build his mental toughness. Who knows, maybe he’ll find his Saiyan Pride in the process. That’d be nice.
He entered the Gravitron, where he’d find his repaired Training Dummy. To be honest, he was surprised that he was able to get it working again after his last session of intense training. It looked like this ship did have an automated repair system, at least for broken training equipment. If the ship itself got damaged, he was probably shit out of luck. He walked over to the Gravitron console, turning the gravity all the way up to 50x Gravity.
The lights in the room dimmed before turning red, signaling that the room had activated. The Captain could never understand why whoever built this Gravitron put that system in, it’s not like you wouldn’t be able to tell if the Artificial Gravity was on. Especially at this level. He walked over to the Training Dummy on the other side of the room and turned it on. Its eyes lit up and immediately got into a combat stance and awaited further commands.
Quash jumped back to put some distance in between himself and the robot. “Fight.” He commanded, unfolding his staff and getting himself ready. The robot responded immediately, rushing forward to begin its attack. Quash decided to practice his close quarters combat first. Since that was the area he was best at, he figured it would be a good enough warm-up. He held both ends of the staff and left the middle section dangling in between them.
He remembered Callion’s training. For close quarters, they were a lot like batons. Because of how long they were, he had the range advantage over a regular punch as well. This robot was going to make a big mistake challenging him in the area where he had the advantage. A flurry of metal punches was sent Quash’s way, and he’d parry and block the strikes one after another, going to try and create an opening for himself. The robot went for a powerful right hook, but the Captain raised his left arm to block it. With his right hand, he’d take a swipe at the dummy’s face, hitting it with the end of his staff.
The robot stumbled back, and Quash moved on the offensive. He began to perform his own little combo while maintaining his distance. Close enough for him to hit, far enough so that his opponent wouldn’t be able to. Eventually, just like when he was creating the Bok Choy Blast, the robot was beginning to adapt to his movements. It began to block his strikes more often until it started jumping back so that he couldn’t reach it. It lacked ranged attacks, so it was… playing keep away?
It looked like Quash was switching to mid-range combat now. He began using his staff as more of a whip, changing his grip to hold the midsection and the far end. He was planning on using the free end in front of him as the main method of attack. He started using more acrobatic movements, trying to generate more momentum to have each strike pack more power. He jumped toward the Training Dummy, performing a front flip in the air and then proceeding to sling the staff at the robot’s head.
The robot blocked the blow and the attack slammed into his forearms. Quash transitioned into a spin as he landed, coming around and whipping the end of the staff again towards the robot. It blocked it with relative ease, going back again. Not powerful enough! He needed to be quicker with the spin and more fluid as well. It was time to try again! Quash made another attempt to press on the attack, performing another spin and slinging the staff at the dummy again!
This one had more of an impact, the dummy went to block it but was still pushed back by the resulting force. One more time! The robot lunged forward with a kick, but Quash managed to grab its leg and throw it back at the wall! He launched himself forward with his flight, his aura flaring all around him. He did a clean spin, coming back around and striking it for one final time! The end of the staff moved like a blur, moving so fast that it practically cut through the air itself before hitting its target!
“LIGHTNING LASH!”
A shockwave was heard around the Gravitron, an echo bouncing off the walls as his attack landed. The robot fell to the ground, a dent being left in its abdomen. It laid there for a moment as if to… catch a breath? Looks like it got hit so hard that even it needed a breather. It began to get back on its feet, ready to attack again.
“Stop.”
The dummy froze. Quash took a minute to breathe.
“Yeah, that’s what I’m looking for. Just like that.” He said to himself. Now he was getting somewhere. He just needed to keep practicing.
“Fight.”
Quash continued to train, practicing his Lightning Lash until he got good enough with it that he could use it on command.
