Ryme had slept in today, the next planet indicated was further away than the others. He'd have to waste a day in between on the ship. So Ryme decided to use it as a mini-vacation. He had been working plenty hard, and it wasn't like there was anyone here who could refute him. He didn't look forward to the day he had an honest employee who got in the way of his much-needed rest. Hopefully, that employee would live, otherwise, he's sure a rumor would develop.
His off day went splendidly, and when they arrived on the planet, one with multiple climates. Ryme would look at planetary maps and find where the place of interest was marked. This time Ryme would be visiting the biome of plains. Flat ground sounded nice, no surprise spots to be ambushed or natural objects to hide behind. He didn't see any docks close to where he needed to land. Ryme would stealthily bring the ship down a couple of miles north where he could hide his ship in the small treeline of a forest. He'd fly up into the clouds and head back towards the marker. He didn't want to risk being seen if he didn't need to. These plains looked fairly abandoned by intelligent life. The pack animals moving so tightly in groups indicated some kind of apex predator roaming these lands. Even the different species didn't seem afraid of each other and worried about another creature entirely.
Ryme would land at the marker, an abandoned decrepit building laid before him. Even worse than that was the stark atmosphere change, everything was dead quiet in this area. He didn't see signs of any wildlife, it was all too deliberate. Ryme knew the chances were high that the apex predator's lair was this building. Curious they would use the one building on the planet that he needed access to. The predator was now a guardian in Ryme's head to many coincidences. To many meant there was a conspiratory, he would keep his head on a swivel waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Ryme wasn't one to get complacent, so he had explored multiple rooms throughout the destroyed building. When the ambush came in the dining hall, Ryme was ready. He'd manage to block the forward assault from a...it was a human earthling though more savage. Ryme was surprised by the force behind the human's charge and bite. It definitely wasn't typical behavior for their race. He didn't want to disrupt the entire ecosystem of a planet. So instead he'd just do a chopping motion next time the human came in to bite. It would be enough to knock the man out, Ryme was glad if he had needed to take off his clothing he would have killed the man. The inconvenience of stripping as well as admitting the strength of a human man would have been too much for his pride. Especially with no one around to observe his crime. Instead, he'd go up to the human creature and sprain both its ankles and heavily bruise one rib cage. Then toss him in a corner hoping that was enough for it to leave him alone. He didn't hear anything besides whimpering as he left the room.
Traveling throughout the rooms, Ryme found the tome inside one of the master bedrooms. Someone had known its worth but didn't have the chance to escape. Which worked perfectly for Ryme. Walking out of the base he'd see the human creature bow its head to Ry me as he left. If he had more time he'd consider making a pet, but he wanted to be back on Earth with his brother already. He'd take off in flight for his ship, not hiding in the cloud line this time.
