Ryme would be chowing down on some cereal that he had bought just before he departed from Earth. He had enjoyed their sales pitch and the art on the package wasn't bad either. It was for a cereal that promised each chocolate ball was inspected for maximum choclateness. Though Ryme had certain doubts if there was really an industry as a chocolate inspector. He felt that the job would be just wrapped up into a health inspector. Which was part of the problem because they continued to think every job in the industry is translateable. He didn't think that 2 years as a waiter would stick out much on a resume.
There were so many planets, as he traveled it opened his eyes to the expanse of the galaxy. On Earth his brother and he were famous, but out here in space, he was a nobody again. The planet of the day was one with tons of rocky hills and caves. The primary export of this planet was rare metals. As such the town that Ryme was going to use to be one of the biggest trade districts. There was an abandoned temple of similar design as the others Ryme had seen so far. Walking through it proved to be another fruitless attempt at connecting with the other side. There were no instructive tomes lying around, best to assume there was still a functioning worship group in this city.
He'd have to connect through another method. At least that's what he thought until he ran into someone on the way out of the temple. There was a small green alien boy around the age of 14 if Ryme had to take a guess. Ryme would listen to the boy talk about his memories of the place and how years ago his family used to stroll through this park. The usual reminiscing that takes place between two earthlings who live close to your current housing. Granted Ryme was lying about his experience on the plane. He just had a feeling if he was honest, that his guest wouldn't have stayed long enough to enjoy the game.
Ryme would work on gathering enough people at one table who were willing and able to play a small board game. It was equal parts a card game and a board game. The concept was you were a bird, that had to escape from all the hunters, and depending on who goes first will depend on when the season is...Ryme would go through the rules and then answer any questions afterward. They'd play it for a couple of hours and the boy seem much more compliant after.
While he was helping a barmaid clean up the board game setup the boy would walk up to Ryme and hug his leg. Then he would pull out a tome and hand it to him. Ryme would eventually find time to escape and go to his ship to get to translating. He was surprised that the boy had the tome the whole time. It was an important lesson for him, to not underestimate others because they should be worried about their lives. At least this time he managed to win the prize without killing a child. He didn't particularly enjoy killing children. Lounging back on his ship, Ryme would take a small nap after ensuring the doors were closed and locked.
