He didn't expect to feel so weirdly detached without his brother by his side. It had been his idea to separate, so he wouldn't even be able to complain when he came back. It was like there was a void inside him numbing him to the world. In good news, Ryme's hypothesis had been confirmed as he translated the most recent tome. He still had more planets to travel through. He didn't expect the journey to be easy, but Ryme wondered how many planets he'd have to explore. Whoever guarded the secret of the tree made sure it wasn't easily discovered. Ryme secretly thought the last planet had to be dead to have the seed. How else could someone be tempted from using it?
This next planet wasn't too far as Ryme would put the ship on autopilot while going to make himself food. He'd read about the planet as he ate. Oh this actually sounds like a blast. An underwater planet, I wonder what species they used for it. I guess I'll find out on the planet. Though the scanners can't really pierce deep in water. I'll just have to go directly to the coordinates and hide the ship in the clouds.
As he finished his food, Ryme would go to the captain's chair and take a nap turning the sound up on any alarms. The last thought he had was how his brother would kill him if he knew that he brought a plate by the ship controls. Chuckling Ryme's next thought would be the ship's proximity alarm letting him know the planet was in sight.
Anxious but ready, Ryme would guide the ship into a range of clouds a couple of 100 meters away from the location of the book. Flying straight to where the book indicated the next clue was, Ryme dived deep into the water. He had expected to see some signs of life that he'd be interrupting. Instead, there was no sign of buildings, barely any plant life around him as he peered at the bottom of the sea floor.
Before he gave up Ryme had one more idea. He'd fly up slowly looking around the entire time. He knew there was a chance that they had developed some sky floating technology, or in this case, it might have crashed by now. There it was a floating platform, with a house no larger than a 3 bedroom. Ryme would land on the house waiting to see what defense they'd have. When he landed, he saw that there was an active garden and a couple of livestock that he couldn't name. He wasn't a monkey farmer after all.
After standing around for 4 minutes Ryme would walk up to the house and knock loudly on the front door. He couldn't believe that these people were so lax in their security. Surely there wouldn't be any police or security coming to a place like this. The answer was pretty quick, some alien humanoid lady answered with a laser gun pointed straight at Ryme's head. One of the disadvantages of being short in his first form people had an easy time thinking they could get a headshot. It'll probably be easier to get information if she thinks she has the power in the situation anyways.
Ryme would try to speak to her, but she didn't seem to understand any of the languages that he knew. He didn't see any grand computer that could translate either, which was odd. There had to be some system in place to keep a thing like this floating and maintained. The creature would motion Ryme into a cell, the bars were made of a simple enough metal. Ryme knew that he could break out with ease and would walk into the cell without thinking twice. Once he was properly locked up the creature would turn to him and speak his native tongue. From the way it spoke, Ryme was pretty sure it was an android of some kind. Which would explain how it maintained this place. Ryme would ask it questions, but the android refused to speak back to him. The only words he received were,
In a couple of hours a transport I have signaled will come to pick you up and deliver you back to your ship. You are not allowed to be here.
Ryme would wait until the creature was prepping the books he could see enough from the cell. Once it pulled a book that had the same dustiness, the pictures of the tree and its seed. He recognized it when it appeared. Breaking out of his cell Ryme would blast the creature's legs off and walk up to the tome. Picking it up he'd smile and blow open one of the entrance doors. Flying back to his ship he'd head out before they got a signal on his ship.
