Ryme would finish his breakfast, he preferred a light meal in the morning. He was opting for a biscuit with a jam from Earth, some fruit called concord. The loud crunch noise would make Ryme chuckle some more. If his brother were on the ship with him he'd be yelling about how he doesn't know how to eat food. That was fine, he knew how to enjoy it, with or without him. Ryme missed Zero, but that didn't mean he missed every part of him. Trying to stay positive, he'd finish his biscuit while slurping his tea loudly. This was the biome he feared coming to the most. It was an ecumenopolis, which meant whatever the clue was, it had the potential to be anywhere. As his ship approached he was guided down by a workforce, once at his appointed spot they'd indicate he could park.
The man seemed to be quite rude as he approached the front door of the ship around the same time as Ryme. It was his walk the way he looked around, then his eyes met Ryme's. He couldn't believe how wrong he had been, the man was very polite a scared kind. He'd give him the amount for fuel and give his ship a once over noting its newness. Ryme usually had to make some excuse up on why he was visiting the planet, but this man didn't even ask.
Ryme considered forcing that man to show him the city, but his gut told him to leave him alone. With his only clue being where the map pointed, Ryme would find the public transit map and study it. He knew the general location of where he needed to go and exploring a city was always entertaining enough before the disappointment. There was a very low chance that the same building was still there. He'd need to interview others, his front this time would be just the PTO collecting merchant information.
The bus was in better condition than Ryme expected. He'd wait until another passenger stepped on the bus and dash behind them. The bus driver didn't notice and if any of the passengers did they showed zero interest. Ryme would sit down in the middle of the bus and relax knowing his stop was much further. The bus ride came and went very uneventfully. Stepping off the bus he'd wave at the driver as he looked out over the city.
He didn't have to walk far to see what had happened to the original temple. It had been expanded to even grander proportions taking up multiple blocks, forming some kind of church compound location. Ryme would walk boldly in, if he wasn't allowed then let them try and apprehend him. Walking through the village it was obvious to Ryme that the villagers were intentionally avoiding him. Which was very unhelpful, because Ryme wanted to assure himself he was going in the right direction. He considered blowing apart some of their tents until they talked to him. Ryme didn't want to spend that long on the planet dealing with the brutal method, though technically, he wouldn't need to stay either way. Walking past the tents he'd approach the refined buildings of this side of the compound.
Ryme knew that the majority of the time, leaders would be in the nicer lodging. He hoped to find a family inside he could take hostage, he didn't have time to do this their way. Finally, things were turning his way as he kicked down the first house door he saw there was a family a young woman with a baby. Very portable if necessary for Ryme, he'd let his left-hand glow with Ki before making his demands. The woman's face would contort in fear at Ryme's glowing hands.
"You're a hostage make noise and kill your baby, then I'll break each bone to make you compliant you understand. Do not test me, I will not be tested."
Ryme liked his hostages to know that they had zero influence on his actions. He hadn't killed a baby before, so he secretly hoped that she complied. She would as she sighed, while a tear started to form in her left eye. A boy ran across the stairs towards the door, Ryme barely lodged his foot before the door could be opened. He'd look at the child and lift his hand in a chopping motion. The child would flinch back and back up towards a corner. Keeping his eye on the mom Ryme would lift the boy back to his feet.
"Look boy go tell your police or whoever's in charge here at the temple. That your mom is my hostage, tell them I need all knowledge on the tree of might seed. They're welcome to bring one guest to explain their evidence as well. If I don't like what they bring to me the baby dies, maybe even you boy. I'm undecided, the faster you get my message heard the more I think you should stay alive."
Ryme would move away from the door as the boy ran away crying. Around 20 minutes later an old man with a large dusty tome was at the door. Ryme would let them in, he half expected this old man to be some kind of trap. That was until he started talking. The way he spoke of the Seed's lore Ryme could tell this man had access to the original documents. He would explain what planet Ryme would need to go on next in his quest. As well as the original text where he learned this fact. He tuned out most of the pleading for the girl's life. Ryme would grab the book, he could mail it back to them when he was on his next planet. Charging up his ki into a ball he'd blow a new entrance in the back of the bathroom. He'd head to his ship to the next planet.
