Slow hours passed by in the bamboo forest. Ayu enjoyed every moment of it, accompanied by the chirping of the birds and gentle breeze. Whispering leaves and the scent of fresh grass underlined with earthy tones made the place even more pleasant. A great spot for someone who disliked crowded locations and preferred nature, to say the least. Being away from a busy city or even smaller, but still, lively towns had their charms. Everything felt quiet and distant, but at the same time sky seemed even closer than before. If only she could fly... Not the most rational thought, but who was she to judge that? Early in the morning, Ayu took a bus that drove her deeper into the Easter Continent, with a plan to wander around the wild. Sometimes she had those sensations, like a sudden urge to be alone in the forests, so she listened to those feelings every time they appeared.
Right now she was studying under bamboo stalks, sitting on the soft, green grass. On her lap was laying an open book. A self-made herbarium with pressed flowers and leaves, meticulous drawings, and neat, small writing describing in detail every property of various types of flora. She worked on that book since she was ten, so no wonder that it looked like a brick - with equally heavy cover and binding. With two other notebooks on her side, a wicker basket there was halfway filled with feverfew and marigold. Ayu was pretty obviously gathering herbs. She was holding fern foliage, narrowing her eyes, and studying snail shell-shaped young stem. She glanced towards her herbarium for information. Was that a new species she came across or did she already describe it in her notes? Next to her feet stood a closed jar with tripinnate, emerald leaves. The girl reached inside the basket to fish out a pencil case - aside from herbs it was filled with prosaically normal stuff, like a wallet and pouch with snacks. With a pencil, she started sketching the shape of a fern leaf.
Soon enough she was completely lost in her thoughts.

It was another afternoon that Athren had been spending with his daughter, she was the curious one out of the two kids. Celric had been all about fighting and getting stronger for he wanted to be a lot like his father, Cress hadn't been interested in fighting until her role model came around but she was still more interested in exploring and learning all about the Earth and it's creatures. She was a curious kid by nature.
Though, as per usual Athren had lost track of her once again within the Bamboo forest. Though given her stronger presence due to her training, it wasn't overly complicated to locate her with his Ki sensing abilities. Though as he walked to where he had sensed her, she had already managed to find something interesting to her. The bright blue eyed six year old had laid her eyes on a green woman from afar. The figure reminded her of her fathers dear friend Ukare, the Namekian warrior that had been in their faction but this individual that she saw had been beautiful and elegant, quite opposite to Ukare's big, strong and muscular figure.
At a distance, Cress had decided to climb up to the top of a bamboo tree and jump from tree to tree, until she was above the individual that had been reading. Wrapping her tail around the tree, she had lowered her body down and hung. She let her tail wiggle itself down the tree's trunk under she was hanging eye level to the stranger in the forest. The child's curious mouth had simply blurted out the first thoughts that had come to mind, her voice full of innocents and joy. "Why are you green? Are you a Namekian?" Her eyes then fell down to the book that was in the woman's hand. "And what are you reading?!"
Of course Athren hadn't been far behind, but surely his daughter and the stranger would have a brief moment of interaction without him being present. Cress' curiosity would likely continue far beyond her current questions, she wanted to know everything about anything that was a living creature. Whether it be birds, the snakes, the groundhogs. She liked learning about the planet and everything that had been on it. The woman before her was simply just another thing to learn about and understand. Unlike her father and her brother, she wanted to stay away from fighting for the rest of her life, she wanted to outsmart them in any way she could, she wanted her future to be much different than the life she had seen them living.
The best way to do that in her mind was to do the exact opposite of them, instead of learning through her fists, she'd learn through her words and simple observations. Though the plan wasn't bulletproof, it was simply the best that she could come up with for now. Given that she was young, she'd have lots of time to do so. This was just the start.

The pensive atmosphere abruptly popped like a soap bubble. Ayu wasn't aware that she was being watched, too lost in thoughts to watch over energy signatures around. Not the most cautious approach exactly, but at the same time, she wasn't sensing any hostility in the area. From what she knew energies could cover emotions and moods, and right now nothing here was making her uneasy. Everything was so peaceful... That's exactly why a sudden movement startled her a bit. A black-haired head popped out of nowhere right in front of her face and a bright tone rang like merry bells. Luckily, she only jumped in her spot a little, a hint of confusion passed quickly from her eyes. When Ayu raised her head to have a better look at the child, a ray of light brightened her already pale-colored irises. Well... Not every day does she see a cute little monkey hanging upside down from the bamboo! This little one surely was of Saiyan heritage, smartly using her tail to hang from the stalk. And something in her gaze, despite a touch of mischievousness, was wonderfully curious and sympathetic.
"Oh, h-hello there," the girl blinked slowly, looking up at the cheerful face with a soft smile. When the initial effect of being taken aback passed, she glanced at the unknown child warmly, in a way gladly enjoying some company. Kids were so loveable. "No, not really, I'm only green like that," Ayu added gently, closing her hands together. That question gave her a small and well-known prickling sensation of uneasiness. She had no idea why she was green, but her complexion differed from Namekian's physiology. Their skin was much more vivid with rich and deep shades of emerald, meanwhile, she had this powder green hue with cream undertones that didn't fit either Namekians or Earthlings. It would be a lie to say that it didn't bother her at all... But that wasn't the subject of this conversation. Looking at the little monkey and her curiosity aimed at her thick-like-a-brick book, Ayu gave her a little smile. "That's my herbarium. It's a book I'm making about plants and their properties," she closed it presenting the bulky leather cover. To be honest, she was a little glad that someone showed some interest in her work, even if that would be short-lived. "Would you like to take a look? I can tell you more about herbs if you'd like," the girl smiled encouragingly and patted the grass next to her in a welcoming gesture.
Still, Ayu was concerned about this little monkey. How old she could be? Seven? She didn't look lost or troubled at all... But she appeared out of blue in the deep bamboo forest, unbothered by the fact that the nearest town was a day of walk away. In fact, judging by the perky energy Ayu felt from the girl, it was unlikely that she would be distressed around here. The creatures roaming those parts of the Continent wouldn't be a challenge with her strength. From what she knew from school, Saiyans were naturally a warrior race, strong and agile, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about... Then again, would it be okay for a little girl to fight with a monster? Unlike people monsters and animals weren't violent by nature, they were simply following the laws of nature. Ayu used her senses to avoid troubling energy signatures around her, never once involving herself in a fight. She really knew too little about other races and their abilities, and now she was put in front of this little dilemma.
"Do your guardians know you're here in the forest? Won't they be worried about you?" she asked. Whether the girl took her invitation or not, Ayu was still concerned about her safety. Maybe unnecessarily but it didn't feel right to just brush off that matter... And leaving a child alone here would feel even worse.

Cress couldn't help but cock her head sideways upon her reply about the green skin, she didn't quite understand it. It didn't matter to Cress why this person was green but she did want to know the answer due to her curious nature. Simply dismissing it she would've chuckled. "Makes sense." Even though in her world, it absolutely made no sense at all. Being invited to take a look at the book, Cress released her tail and flipped down, landing all so elegantly on her feet before she began her approach.
Cress had shown absolutely no signs of fear or nervousness, she wasn't as shy as she once was and wanted to know everything she could about anything. She had taken a seat right next to the older girl, glancing curiously at the book. "Sure! I'd like to see!" Cress had actually been quite the reader, she read all kinds of books but her favorite were fiction. There was something about reading a good story that took her away from the life she lived. Though her life wasn't bad, it wasn't exactly the most fun for a six year old. Constantly moving around, few friends. At times she just needed an escape from it all.
It had seemed like he was right on cue, the green woman had asked whether or not her guardian was around and she simply chuckled and pointed into the woods as her father made his way over to them. "My dads right there actually!" She said happily before whispering quietly. "Don't try to be my mom either! I've got that space reserved!"
Of course Athren hadn't heard any of it but as he made his way into the small clearing where the two girls had sat down he arched his right brow. How was it that his daughter had always seemed to find somebody in the middle of nowhere? It was like this little girl was a magnet for people of all kinds. As he approached further, his ocean blues quickly scanned the green woman down quickly and his assessment was rather simple. Kind of cute and not a threat at all. "How is it that you always seem to find the one person in the area?" He asked his daughter as he had a light smile on his face, his ocean blue eyes not breaking from the older woman.
Cress couldn't help but giggle and chuckle, her smile lighting up her face. "I dunno!" She exclaimed. She really didn't know, it had seemed to just be her luck at this point.
"You don't know, huh?" He shrugged his shoulders before speaking to the stranger that was there. "I hope she didn't bother you too much, she's got a habit of being mildly annoying." Of course Athren didn't actually mean much by this, he just knew that strange kids could often get on the nerves of others. If Cress and Celric weren't his own, he even assumed he'd be annoyed by them from time to time.

Such a bold and outspoken little girl she was. Without a sign of uncertainty, she jumped down and eagerly took the invitation, settling next to Ayu like they knew each other for ages. That was quite new, well... People usually didn't stick around for various reasons, so all of sudden a warm but bittersweet sensation poked her feelings. Someone was genuinely interested in her work - even if that was only simple, childish curiosity, it felt nice. Wondering what she should show this little girl, Ayu slowly turned the pages, giving her time to look at the drawings and descriptions. Botanical terms would surely prove too difficult to understand for someone not familiar with the dictionary, but pressed leaves and flowers, alongside detailed sketches she made were enough to catch a curious eye. Letting her study what she sees to her heart's content, she smiled warmly. After a moment Ayu stopped at one page, lifting the book a bit so the little listener could have a better look.
"Do you know this one? It's called stinging nettle," Ayu tapped the picture of a plant with pointed leaves and yellowish, tiny flowers. "It's pretty common around the Earth. A red and stinging spot will appear where you touched it, so be careful," she explained. There was no point in using big words and complicated terminology when speaking with a child. Ayu tried to show her something interesting with phrases that a first-grade kid would understand. And nettle stings would be pretty common to encounter for an outdoor kid, so why not show her a little trick? After turning another two pages, Ayu now pointed at a different plant. This one was looking rather plain, with flat leaves and short stalks. "This is ribleaf. Do you see the lines on the leaves? They say they look like ribs, hence the name. If you ever get stung by a nettle, look for the ribleaf plant, it grows close to the ground. Press fresh leaves on the rushes and very quickly prickling would go away." Maybe that wasn't much, but perhaps that bit of knowledge one day would prove useful.
Was that even interesting? Who knew... Well, one thing for sure, she wasn't here on her own. Thank goodness!
"That's good. For a moment I thought you got lost." Ayu nodded to herself, glad that at least the girl isn't running around completely alone. Yet... Why she couldn't sense everything? The silhouette of a tall man was approaching, but the life signature just wasn't there. Was that even possible or is she seeing a ghost? Her energy-sensing ability never failed her like that. Being puzzled by that matter, it took Ayu a moment to properly process the words whispered to her. Either? Reserved..? Do-Does it mean that this little girl had her eyes on someone to be her mum in the future, among more than one candidate? That was strangely abstract and wholesome at the same time. Ayu chuckled with a faint blush on her cheeks, cordially glad for this small ray of glee. Of course, she wasn't mocking her, but that innocent comment amused her most sincerely. "Don't worry, I'm too young to be your mum," she reassured her fondly, whispering back. "By the age, I'm more suit to be someone's older sister rather than a mother."
Leaving the matchmaking thought of a child alone, the dad made his appearance. He looked mostly like a Sayian with messy hair, strong posture, and monkey tail, so... Why she couldn't feel anything? He looked way too physical to be a ghost. That was surely a mystery, and the most likely explanation was that he did something, so no one could read his signature. But was she right or wrong? That will weigh on her mind for the next day, won't it? As it happened often with strangers, Ayu started to feel a little uneasy when the man approached. The thing was that she had trouble with conservation, she felt far more comfortable talking to trees than to her classmates or others. This time wouldn't be so different, she already started playing with the tip of her braid nervously. Yet the distinction here was that the young man started talking first, and backed up by the child's cheerful exclamation he somehow shooed away most of her anxiety. He wasn't loud or inimically extraverted. And the blue gaze in his eyes seemed friendly, so...
"Of course n-not," Ayu smiled shyly and looked at the cause of all this trouble still sitting next to her. She had a soft spot for kids... "I was rather happy to have a bit of company here," putting her hand on the spiky hair she softly patted the girl's head. A brave and cute child, that's for sure, and quite curious about the world! The warm expression on her face shifted to a bit more pensive look when she realized something. "I never asked for your name, did I?" She addressed the two of them, abashed because of her lack of manners. The introduction was in order, albeit somewhat late, so she bowed her head. I'm Ayu. It's nice to meet you."

As Cress had sat with what she believed was her new friend, she had glanced at the book with a bright face full of curiosity and excitement, to her this had been much better than sitting around the ship or the camp. Hell, it had even been so much better than hanging out with her thick-skulled brother! It was nice to have another girl around for a change and it seemed as if this one had similar interests to Cress. Similarity was a hard thing to find for Cress as everybody in her father's faction were fighters or workers, and few had time for things like reading or research. Barely anybody had even decided to go out and adventure the Earth to explore new things, in fact, she believed she had been the one to do it most frequently, even if she wasn't supposed to or even allowed to do it!
When the green woman had stopped the page and gave her a better look, she shook her head. She wasn't familiar with the plant she was being shown. "Maybe I've seen it but I don't remember it. Are the like.. right around here?" She said gently as he eyes stayed glued to the page and her hand flared up to signal that she was talking about the immediate area that had been around them. Hearing Ayu talk about precautions and remedies, Cress couldn't help but chuckle. "I don't think a plank can prick me!" Even though she was just a kid, she was getting rather strong. She had already grown to be much stronger than she was a few months ago with the help of her new mentor. With her power level, she thought for sure she could be fine!
Cress giggled playfully again. "I never get lost! I always run off and he always finds me!" Though it was at this point she had listened to Ayu mention her age and how she was too young, Cress gave her a stern, serious look. "I'm gonna go ahead and say that's the right answer! You can totally be my sister though, I've always wanted a sister! It would be WAY WAY COOLER than my dummy brother!" Though she loved her big brother and how protective he could be, he was kind of a bully and a dweeb. She really would have loved to have an older sister to hang out with and somebody with similar interests at that! She didn't think that it was too much to ask for but given that it hadn't happened, it obviously was!
When Athren had spoken to her and awaited his response he immediately picked up on a few things, her posture and her overall body language along with her light studder gave him a hint that she was slightly nervous about the whole situation. It made sense to him too, after all, if she was familiar with his race, she'd surely know some of their history and what they had been capable of. Though he took note of it all, he wasn't going to mention it for the simple reason he didn't want to make her more nervous. He'd simply watch his tone and his own actions in an attempt to make her more comfortable and make her aware that he wasn't going to hurt her. That wasn't what he was there for.
Athren couldn't help but give her another light smile, though he neared closer and leaned his back against a nearby tree. "Well, I'm glad she didn't get under your skin then." At this point, he glanced at his little one as she stared back with an unimpressed expression. Though upon hearing the woman's name, Athren would have crossed his arms and tilted his head up looking into the beautiful bright sky. "I'm Athren, she's Cress." He said softly before going on to his own question.
"So, What brings you out here anyway? Just relaxing by the looks of it?" He didn't wish to pry too much into her personal life or anything but he was rather curious and simply trying to keep the light conversation going, more so for Cress than his own self. He didn't want to pull her away from an encounter that she may have been enjoying. It wasn't often that Cress met people she was really interested in, given that he wanted her to enjoy every second of it that she could. After all, she was just a kid. She really did need to socialize with people of all kinds. She had to learn to navigate her way around the universe because it wasn't a very easy go, it was a very dangerous place. You couldn't just walk through it all with power, you needed to be smart and educated on people. You had to know when people had good intentions and when people had bad and the only way to learn that was through exposure.

There was something pleasant in how a child's eyes widened in fascination. She was curious and Ayu was eager to share what she knew and show what she had. Slowly turning the pages, she glanced at the petit face beaming with interest and sparks, and unknowingly to her, Ayu's eyes softened. The little one looked like a kid in front of a toy store, but there were no playthings here. Only old yellowed pages with pressed flowers with detailed drawings and descriptions that normally would bore lots of people. Even when it comes to biology and nature, botany was one of the least enjoyable subjects for students. And yet... Seemed that the little scout running around the place did so with a goal in mind. Ayu was simply glad to meet someone who showed interest in her work, especially if the herbarium she held dearly was a fruit of years of studying. Now, looking at the little Saiyaness she really had to control herself. Hugging an unknown child wasn't the most mannerly thing to do.
"I think they are. They grow in patches in shades, you just have to look around," Ayu explained softly, glancing at all the spots nearby that bamboo stalk covered with shadows. Strings of light beamed through the thick plants, and it wouldn't be hard to find some stinging nettle to satisfy the curiosity of a headstrong child. At the chuckle, Ayu smiled gently and pressed her pointing finger against the lips. "Who knows?" she added mysteriously, lowering her voice a bit. "Some plants can be sneaky and dangerous." The girl knew that Saiyans were a tough race, strong and versatile in terms of combat, so their biology would be much more hardy than Earthlings... But some things could cause harm outside of combat. What are challenging fights and raw force when it's an illness hurting you? A virus perhaps that attacks out of blue? Poisoning or infections? With their durability it seemed very unlikely, but because they weren't native to Earth, who knew how would they react to its ecosystem? Well, seemed that Ayu's inner biologist started to talk in her head. Anyway - better safe than sorry.
Judging by her behavior, the little girl wasn't concerned about something as simple as plants. No, there were far more important things to discuss! The issue about her mother surfaced again when she looked at Ayu with an almost stoically fierce face, evaluating her answer. She was so bossy it was just so cute... Ayu couldn't help but cover her smile and chuckle, feeling a faint blush tinting her cheeks. A small soft laugh wasn't in any way mocking, of course not. She was genuinely impressed by her strong will and dedication and just a tiny bit heartwarmingly amused by it. Ayu's eyes were honest and tender when she looked at the tiny but uppish person next to her.
"I see you already made up your mind. Pardon me," she raised her hand carefully taking away a bamboo leaf that sneakily landed on black, messy hair. She smiled sweetly at the girl. "I'm perfectly fine with being your sister, but what about your brother? Wouldn't he be sad to hear you calling him like that?" She didn't have any siblings, so she couldn't relate, but family... Should be something that sticks together, right? Not like she knew enough about it to make any suggestions.
Ayu tilted her head, looking at the little scout when the father appeared. Right, didn't she say that he always finds her? Given the fact that the girl's Ki was vivid and clear and the man lacked the energy signature, Ayu started suspecting that something about sensing and controlling energy was happening here... Anyway. The more she glanced from one person to another, the more she saw similarities between them. Cress resembled her dad a lot. And his remark wasn't honestly out of place... That was understandable. Ayu liked kids, she played with them given chance, but she wasn't a parent, let alone someone living with a tiny force of chaos in a physical form. She could understand Athren's concern - and she knew that despite how badly Cress could get under her skin, in case of danger her dad would worry about the little one too. This particular area was peaceful and lacked monsters and it's not like Ayu could pass as any threat anyway.
"Cress is quite an entertaining company. We've been talking about plants I've written down in my notes," she explained, lifting the heavy book to somehow present it to Saiyan with a reassuring smile. Turning it back towards the little scout, she placed it on her lap, so the girl could have more freedom to look at the pages until something catches her attention. "She seemed curious about my herbarium, so I was showing it to her." Ayu said with a calm voice, gently turning the yellow pages, moving to the section with edible forest fruits that surely must be the most interesting for little a kid. Sitting slightly on the side, to give her more space, Ayu smiled bashfully with her pointing finger touching her cheek. "W-well..." She already blabbered what her interest were... Her shy nature was for a chance happy that someone was asking about that. She put her fingers together, her eyes softly lighting up.
"I've been gathering herbs. I was running low on some of them, so I took a trip to fill my supplies." Ayu gestured to the basket and its content sitting in the grass nearby, picking up the jar that was laying forgotten next to her feet. Emerald, thick leaves inside were properly sealed in a glass container, as they were more dangerous than a common stinging nettle. The girl placed the jar in the wicker basket, next to bunches of sweet-smelling herbs tied with twines. There were flowers, stubby leaves, the foliage of fern, and other species of plants. "Some of them only grow here, but they work wonders on fevers and are good for treating wounds." Ayu replied in a gentle voice, picking a happily orange flower with a thick stalk out from her basket. "Like calendula. I've found them on the forest outskirts on the south side where most of the sun is-" as she glanced in that direction, she spotted a dark green tuft growing behind the bamboo right next to Athren's spot. A certain plant with pointed leaves and a countless number of tiny, stinging hair. "Cress, I think there's some nettle you wanted to see." Ayu smiled and pointed towards it.

Cress was honestly having such a good time in such a short period, she had felt free for the time being. Completely on her own, even if she knew her father wasn't far behind. She truly loved exploring the Earth and just meeting new people. It was fun, it had been an absolute blast! She wished she was allowed to do it more often. Though she managed to sneak away when she was out with her father, she didn't do it often alone from the ship or the camp. There were rules and she followed them, though her dad was good to her, he was very capable of being terrifying if he needed to. He wasn't afraid to discipline his two children if they had acted out, though he tried to avoid it and keep it light, he would go to extents if they continued to break the same rules multiple times. When she ran off when he was around, it was more of a game and Athren didn't mind letting her wander and explore while he was at least present. That way if there had been any trouble or threat to her, he'd be right there to deal with it. Though the Earth was rather harmless to a guy like him, to her there had still been few risks, and no matter how unlikely she'd get killed. Athren had to protect his little girl, with everything that he was.
When Ayu had told her to look around she had taken it quite literally, she couldn't help but turn her head rapidly and scan the environment with her big bright eyes. They scanned around the immediate area while she searched for the small plant her elder had described. "I don't see any around!" She said aloud while still gazing around with no success. Though giggling had soon taken over as she responded once more. "I'm sneaky and dangerous! I don't think a silly plant is going to hurt me! I'm a saiyan after all!" Of course, she had a point but what she wasn't factoring in were her age and her relatively small power level. Surely, a little prick wouldn't hurt her but who knew? At least Ayu was showing care and concern for the young girl. It was something she didn't get very often. Athren had protected her a little bit more than his son but he still gave her the benefit of the doubt.
Though there was a very impactful moment between the two girls, when Ayu had actually agreed to being her big sister, Cress' face had lit up brighter than ever before. It was a smile that hadn't been on her face in such a long time. It was something she wanted and she was finally going to get it. "Wait, REALLY!?" The small girl had immediately hugged Ayu tightly, giving her the tightest squeeze the little saiyan girl could muster. "We're going to have SO SO SO SO MUCH FUN!" Whether or not Ayu was just saying it to entertain the girl or not was a different story, for the moment the excitement and hyped consumed Cress, she had no plans for the future but for right now, Ayu had been her big sister and she loved every second that had been passing by! Though the young girl giggled again. "My brothers big dumb, like the dumbest! Who cares what he thinks!"
The sibling rivalry was real, though it wasn't in terms of power scaling. They were often mean to each other even though they had really cared for each other. It was a dynamic that some wouldn't understand but those with siblings, very well might. They got along half the time flawlessly and the other half of the time? It was an absolute nightmare. They would bicker and insult each other so often that they'd need to be told to shut up. It was enough to drive anybody in the faction crazy! At the end of the day though, they were in each others corners. It probably had to do with them being able to only hang out together as there weren't any other kids around. It was their sibling or nothing, and time together could easily turn sour and spoiled.
Athren had gazed upon the two, the light-hearted chat between himself and Ayu continuing on peacefully. Though at this point Athren crouched down to the ground and rested a knee against the grassy circle they found themselves in. "She always finds a way to be entertaining to everybody she meets, but she's got a habit of being a little over the top. Isn't that right Cress?" Athren couldn't help but smirk at his little one as he teased her playfully, Cress simply responded with a stern look and a quick show of the tongue before she put all her attention back into the book Ayu had. "I appreciate you taking the time to show her a few things, I think it actually means quite a bit to us both. " Athren was of course being genuine, it did mean a lot to him. Even if he wasn't interested in the subject at all, if his daughter was and Ayu had taken even a second to show her, he was a grateful man. It wasn't often she got to do it, so he wouldn't mind hanging out to let it happen for a bit longer.
Athren listened intently, his right eyebrow arched as she heard Ayu mention treating wounds. That was the thing that had stood out to him the most and he was taking a mental note. That wasn't something he was going to forget because now if he was ever wounded and on this planet, he had a last resort if absolutely necessary. It wouldn't be something he'd be proud to do, but it wouldn't be a rarity if he took damage that needed to be treated. After all, he was a saiyan warrior. Damage to his body was a common occurrence, it just depended on the severity of it all. Though he said it playfully, the had been some truth behind his words. "Interesting, well if I ever need a medic or somebody to patch me up. I guess I know who to look for now, don't I?" He gave Ayu a reassuring smile. The best part was, if he ever did track her down to treat wounds he could easily say that he warned her. It was fair game.
Upon having the nettle pointed out to her, Cress immediately got up and ran over to investigate further, though her eyes were wide and her smile big, she refused to touch it just in case. Her confidence that she wouldn't be hurt is now being tested by her own childish fears. She couldn't help but think, what if? Regardless, she was still ecstatic and grateful to be living in this moment. "Well that's cool! Maybe you can help me find pretty flowers! " She wasn't aware of any of the names but she saw things like roses and tulips around, she just couldn't remember where and she wanted to see more of them! She was a curious kid, that was for sure! Surely, her new sister would be the helping hand to find them all!

Cress was as confident as she was headstrong. Being so assured that her heritage and power level mean a lot, she dismissed a simple caution without a second thought. At least on the surface, it looked like it. What was a mere plant to her power? She was of course way stronger than a typical human child at her age, but Ayu knew too well that judging someone by their energies wasn't an easy thing. It was too complex - or perhaps it was just her way of thinking. Sensing Ki was like being introduced to an individual, but it wasn't all there to a living creature - that's why she treated it as more of a hint to someone's existence rather than a full story. In this case, Athren remained a mystery and Cress was a sparkling, vivid presence, curious and uncompromising. So Ayu heard that Saiyans were proud, a cute display of a strong and innate sense of worth at play. Cress must have mimicked an adult with her confident posture... Was that an example of a parent-child dynamic? Probably. Even if she wasn't able to experience it firsthand, it felt good to watch Cress interact with her father. She'd stick out her tongue when being teased and Athren would chuckle softly when the little one misbehaved. Ayu guessed it was a family thing. It made her feel a little wistful.
And then unexpected happened. To be fair, Ayu didn't mind being called older sister - she met Cress a moment ago. It felt like catering to a harmless whim and playing along with a little one's wish while also having fun. There wasn't any assurance that they will meet regularly from now on, but even if it was just for one moment... Seeing this childish glee melted her heart. A cute, round face beaming with genuine joy - how could she not love that sight? She wouldn't mind herself having a little sister for the rest of the day... A fleeting attempt to keep loneliness at bay. The little girl's reaction was what made all the difference. Ayu blinked, at first a little startled when she felt herself getting lovingly squashed in the arms of a tiny Saiyan. Her facial expression softened right away and with a gentle, touched smile, she stroked Cress's back slowly. She was warm and she held her tightly - a little more strength and perhaps Ayu'd have some troubles with breathing. Not like she minded that.
"There, there," she spoke tenderly. To be honest... Ayu didn't remember the last time she was hugged or simply embraced by someone. Or she couldn't recall it because it hasn't happened so far? The more she was grateful for the little Saiyaness for this small display of affection. "I'm happy you like that thought," she caressed her soft hair. "But I'd like you to try getting along with your older brother too, alright..?" Sibling rivalry wasn't something Ayu would be familiar with, and maybe it was just her feelings speaking, but seeing close people fighting all the time would surely sadden her. Even if Cress didn't like it, Ayu said to try. It wasn't a promise nor an order, only a request. What the young Saiyaness will do with it, it's her own decision - but she hoped it would turn out to be the best. After all, kids ought to listen to their older siblings! In theory that is... Ayu had absolutely zero experience in this matter. Though father probably did - as he thanked her for the time and attention she gave Cress. If she wasn't getting along with her brother, at least she found an older sister of the day. Ayu chuckled warmly. "That's not a problem at all." Athren must care a lot about his daughter, she could hear so much in his voice. Despite his casual posture and distance, he was watching attentively, checking Cress's expression and behavior. That was very considerate of him... "It's nice to see someone listening to what I have to say," she added with a somewhat abashed smile.
Yet it seemed that not only Cress was listening to her words. Ayu beamed a little, touching her cheek with her pointing finger, equally embarrassed. The smile on her face was both shy and glad - what Athren said wasn't praise, but he took notice of what she was saying. Both father and daughter, without their awareness, were nudging her self-esteem today.
"I-I am not a doctor nor have I enough experience... I like herbs and plants in general." Joining her hands together, Ayu's eyes looked to the side, at the basket and herbs she talked about. A faint blush flushed on her cheeks. At first, she started studying plantlife because she took interest in that, then her ability emerged... She began gardening, learning more and more, to the point where she was glad she could broaden her horizons. Every second she used for understanding was a second she gained something back. It felt like in a way, she was part of Earth's nature... "I'm using them to treat wounds and minor illnesses of p-people living around the neighborhood. If anyone you know would be in need, please let me know, but some things are better to be treated in the hospital." After all, she was still an amateur. She couldn't possibly compare herself to a trained medic - but there were cases when patients refused to go to a healing center for various reasons. And being a Saiyan, well... Ayu knew that there were cases of outright hostility towards alien races. It was cruel, but what if they would refuse their service, leaving someone injured completely on their own? "Still, I'll do what I can," she reassured him. When it comes to treating plants, wild animals, or people, Ayu always does her best. Even if work is beyond her strength.
Ayu didn't expect Cress to jump from her place and run over to a spot with stinging nettle. The little girl was wary of the dark leaves, not trying to touch them, only looking... The young woman walked up there too, smoothing her skirt before crouching down next to Cress and Athren. The plant in question was growing quietly in the shadow of a bamboo stalk, completely unnoticed by an uninterested eye.
"See?" she pointed at the dark green leaf adorned with white fuzz. "Nettles are covered in tiny, hollow hairs. They are very delicate and they break easily with even the lightest touch. Then they will fill with fluid that causes this burning and itching sensation." After a careful explanation, without fear Ayu raised her hand, extending her pointing finger - the tip of it gently brushed against the nettle's leaf. Right away she felt a familiar prickling feeling. She smiled, letting know Cress that it was nothing troubling. "Here," Ayu presented her finger - a smaller than the head of a pin pale spot amidst reddening, swelling skin. All in all, the stung spot was barely bigger than a grain of sand. Ayu made sure to only touch the tip, so she could show the girl how the plant's defensive reaction works. "Nettle does that so no animal would like to eat it. For humans, it's edible but needs to be cooked first... Oh, and this tiny thing stings only a little bit, soon it will fade away." After all, it was only a presentation for a daughter-father pair that was kind enough to listen to her.
She never thought she'd be giving a botany lecture in the open air!

As he had idled around watching the interaction between his daughter and Ayu, he couldn't help but keep a very faint smile on his face. Maybe it had been the innocents of it all or something else entirely, maybe it was just the simple fact that his daughter had somebody to talk to briefly about something that wasn't fighting, maybe it was something that Athren couldn't identify but he was still quite content in this situation. Though he wasn't excited in the moment, he was more than happy to keep hanging on so his daughter could enjoy this. Though there was a thousand other things he would rather be doing for his own benefit, this was a peaceful moment that he'd hang onto. Maybe it could link back to his talk with Jorey, about how he spent so much time chasing the goals that he missed out on all the moments in between, the events linking every step to the end game. For once, maybe he'd apply some patience to a situation and just let it run it's course instead of trying to move out of there and doing something he'd enjoy a little more.
Mind you, this Ayu individual did seem to have talents that might be useful while they all stayed on Planet Earth. She had some knowledge regarding plants and herbal medicine, in a pinch that would be very useful if him or his kids had actually managed to get any kind of injuries while here, and given Athren didn't have rejuvenation chambers yet, it was an option he'd keep in mind until they all had departed this wonderful place. Athren's ocean blues continued to observe their interaction and it had been bluntly obvious that Ayu was better than children than he was, the only reason he could tolerate them half the time was that they were his own offspring, a lot of the time his patience ran thin with them and he found himself being a little on the stern side. Ayu was sweet, gentle, and soft. Maybe she wasn't like this with all kids or all the time but it was a personality trait that Athren would scribble down in his mental notebook. The way she patted his daughter's head and even spoke about how she should get along with her older brother was so gentle and caring, it was genuine guidance that Athren had stated to either of his kids.
Cress on the other hand shook her head rapidly, though she loved her brother she wasn't going to just stop being a brat to him. It was simply their dynamic and how they operated a vast majority of the time. When they were getting along, it was because they were both bored as hell and literally had no other options for entertainment. "Listen, I can't promise you that!" Cress exclaimed in her loud, happy voice. "Like I said he's biiiig dumb! It's so hard to get along with stupid!" She chuckled again, loudly as she said this thinking it rather honestly. Though Celric was into fighting, he didn't put much time into learning new things about anything else, he learned more about fighting and everything that went into that, along with survival nothing else really caught his attention because he didn't think he'd need miscellaneous information.
Athren wasn't just watching his daughter though, he could see Ayu beaming from the entire interaction with Cress. It appeared as if both of them were genuinely enjoying the entire situation. Though Athren wouldn't know exactly what to say throughout the whole thing, he was trying his best to stay invested, he was trying to avoid letting his mind wander to more important and pressing things that consumed his mind. He was trying his best to simply be present, right here in this moment. Athren chuckled faintly at one of her comments, "Well, It's nice to see her listening to somebody other than her mentor, so I suppose we've both got a little bit of gratitude from this.. Now don't we?" He gave another reassuring smile as he continued their conversation lightly.
He listened to her go on about her experience, of lack of and he simply shook his head after hearing it all. "You'd have enough experience to help somebody out in a pinch, besides I'm not counting on getting hurt. It was more just playful banter, a just in case.. You know?" Athren wasn't sure if she had picked up on his playfulness or not but he figured it best to explain but it was nice to see that she was willing to help if she needed too. It was quite obvious that this individual was kind-hearted and sweet and full of innocents. When she had gotten up from her position and followed Cress, Athren's eyes followed them along, though he really didn't move much else. He actually felt like he didn't need to be so tense and on guard and it was a rather nice feeling, he just wanted to embrace it all in the moment while he could.
Cress on the other hand once again listened to Ayu with wide eyes, absorbing every single word she had said like a sponge. Athren on the other hand kind of slipped from the situation, words going in one ear and out the other. It wasn't about disrespect, he just didn't have any interest in learning about plant life, it wasn't his thing. Plus, he figured he'd ever need it. If it ever came down to him crawling across the dirt looking for a plant for survival purposes, he'd deserve his death and it truly was that simple. Cress though, well she couldn't absorb enough! "Ou it's kind of prickly! That didn't hurt you, did it?!" She asked as she observed the little bump on Ayu's finger. Though Cress didn't think it could pierce her own skin, she didn't want to risk it! She didn't like the though of being poked by a plant, something about that just didn't seem fun to her.

Family dynamic was something Ayu wasn't familiar with. Perhaps if she'd had a sibling she would be able to relate to the little Saiyaness words, instead, she could only ponder about it. Depending on someone and living with them for a big part of your life... Zhang was practically a stranger in his own house, so it didn't count. It felt like Ayu has no right to correct her strong opinion about her brother. The sibling relationship was a tougher nut to crack than a young woman thought at first. The truth is that they were little and kids had different priorities from adults or even teens... That, and if her brother was even half as stubborn as Cress, it was clear that their connection was rocky. Pushing that subject seemed to be impossible, so Ayu stroked the girl's head again fondly before she let go of her embrace. It would be better to talk about it later, given some time, and maybe with Cress's brother present..? A Saiyan family on Earth could have very well been here on a vacation, but if they could meet again... Well, it would be rude to plan a meeting with someone who she just run into like that.
Getting along with children was easier than talking with her peers or older people. They weren't as suspicious of Ayu, and simply saying that she took a bath in a green paint was enough of an explanation to them - while the others were most likely to keep their distance. Watching from the side, sometimes whispering or pointing fingers... Athren was quite attentive too, but not in a hostile way. Despite Cress taking more than solid three-fourths of Ayu's attention, she noticed that he's letting his daughter lead the conversation. He was watching over, just in case, but aside from a few remarks that made Cress stick out her tongue and show her stubbornness, he kept to himself. This way Ayu couldn't exactly make out anything of his characteristics, and without being able to sense the hue of his energy, she was left alone with her instinct. And it hinted that past Saiyan's distance, he wasn't someone she should be so cautious about. Normally, she would be but Cress calmed down her uneasiness and it was unlikely that a parent looking out for his child would mean any harm. Well, as long as no threat happens to the child that is. Ayu was a long-life friend of nature and she knew that a wild beast could go berserk at the slightest insinuation of danger towards their cubs.
"W-Well..." she felt a bit unsure. One thing was curious. Both nonchalant and watchful, Athren asked about a medic and further about Ayu's botany knowledge. It wasn't much, she stated so, but ever so slightly he persisted even if he called it an innocent tease. Taking care of injured animals and treating her neighbors was the most she has done... Maybe there was a reason he decided to avoid hospitals or cities in general. Ayu didn't want to pry, it seemed that Athren got his reasons. She smiled warmly, just a tiny bit abashed, and put her hand above her heart. "So just in case, my doors are open for those who need my help," the young woman responded sincerely. And right after she tilted her head down, feeling that she might have been too direct. Ayu defensively raised both of her hands, getting blushed alongside that. "That is, if-if they want my help in the first place b-but I might not be as skilled..." She muttered carefully. Good that she and Cress had to shift their focus on stinging nettle there, otherwise Ayu might have slipped a bit into a more anxious state of mind.
Talking to people was always making her nervous and shy.
Anyway, Cress's eager face and her sparkling eyes were so cute. Did she just find a fellow botany nerd? Ayu chuckled silently. She wouldn't go as far as to say that, but it certainly gave her a warm sensation deep down to see her so invested in her explanation. And it was about common nettle! How would Cress react to tales about flytraps or color-changing plants? While the little girl admired the mysterious piece of flora Ayu picked up one of the ribleaves from the patch under the other bamboo. For many people, it was an ordinary weed that could be found pretty much everywhere - but she knew a bit more. Ayu wrapped the leaf around her fingertip, just like she told Cress before. And she noticed, asking curiously about her prickled spot. Ayu rubbed her fingers together and showed the finger in question again. The spot that was there a second ago disappeared... Well, in this case, it wasn't exactly thanks to the ribleaf. Her regenerative ability kicked in and got rid of this tiny spot in no time - but she couldn't tell her that. What if they'd find it suspicious or gross...
"It disappeared so quickly because of this," Ayu showed the ribleaf, "- and the fact that I'm friends with plants." It shouldn't be so suspicious, right? That was a tiny little dot and would normally heal quickly on its own. The little one could easily prick her own hand with stinging nettle to try it out, but she wasn't going to force her. Even if Cress was going to brag that no plant would harm a might Saiyan, she was a child after all... She leaned a bit closer to the girl and whispered to her ear as if telling her an important secret. "That's why I'm green, but don't tell anyone, alright..?" Ayu winked at her knowingly and smiled.

The longer the conversation had drawn on the more he could tell that she wasn't really getting more comfortable, at least it didn't seem as such. She still had a very light stutter and just her overall attitude was covered with shyness and maybe even a hint of doubt. Athren of course didn't know whether or not he was making the situation worse or not with his playful attitude. Still, he didn't want Ayu uncomfortable after all their chance meeting wasn't on his agenda, and they kind of stumbled upon her and started interrupting her own time. Though he listened to her words again, he did think of something when she offered that she'd have open doors to those in need. He could sense her power level as clear as day, she would be so easy to target if somebody wanted too. Anybody who could sense Ki could theoretically keep tabs on her location at all times. Athren knew that bringing this up could make her slightly more uncomfortable, but it might have been worth bringing up for her own safety. "Well, I'm glad you've got such a genuine offer. I really haven't had the luxury of running into many people like you throughout my lifetime. More often than not, it seems like everybody tends to look after themselves." Of course, Athren was one of these people. He put his kids first and him second and that was his motivation for everything he did.
Athren's tone shifted slightly, getting slightly more serious with a touch of concern in his voice. "But listen, I don't mean to alarm you or anything.. Or question your knowledge, but I've got a hunch you're familiar with Ki? Given the power that you're displaying, you've had some training or you are naturally strong.." He trailed off ever so briefly, trying to word his thoughts appropriately so he wouldn't seem like stranger danger, "If you don't learn how to suppress your energy, you'll have people knocking on your door whenever. Plus.. You're kind of going to be on anybody's radar who comes to the planet trying to cause harm. It may be wise to look into learning how to suppress your energy." Athren had been straightforward and to the point with it, he expected her reaction wouldn't be the happiest but at least she'd be aware of the potential attention she could be attracting. She was being good with his daughter, after all, a little safety tip wouldn't be the worst thing he could give to her and his words came from experience, if he was here to conquer the planet he'd damn well start by hunting people like her, of course that wasn't what he was here for but he knew people would have a similar and efficient mindset.
Thankfully Cress had been there to keep things between them flowing easier, surely if Cress hadn't been present this interaction would have been a lot more difficult for Ayu. After all, he knew the saiyan reputation and it wasn't the best. Sure, they hadn't been the monsters that they had been in the past but their lust and drive for battle would be enough to put anybody against violence on caution, it was just how it was. Cress was the balance in this situation, the one to keep everything light and easy, she was the distraction from the many awkward pauses that could have been, Athren truly didn't know where he'd be without her, here and just in general.
Cress had still been loving every single interaction and word that had been going her way, she was super happy still that she made a new friend and her face lit up even more when she learned why Ayu was green. Of course she wouldn't be able to determine that Ayu was just playing around, so she believed every little word. Cress leaned in and whispered right back, making sure her father didn't hear a single word, it was a secret between the girls and no boy could know! "I won't tell anybody! I promise bestie!" It was at this point Cress had extended her pinky on her right hand. "I Pinky swear!"
Of course, Athren had been watching from the little distance between them and his right brow once again arched curiously, he had no idea what the two of them were discussing but he didn't have any worries, he knew it was harmless. I mean worst case they were making fun of him, right? It wouldn't have been the first time his daughter did it and it surely wouldn't be the last. The minds of children were unique and special, that was for sure. He couldn't quite wrap his head around Cress though, she was completely different from him and her mother. She was more loving and caring than both of them, she expressed a deep interest in others and what they valued, while both of her parents typically focused on their own strengths and interests growing up. Athren could remember being her age, all that mattered was his power and being the best, he wanted to outclass everybody his age, he wanted to prove himself from the day he started walking, maybe it was the way Planet Vegeta had shaped him, maybe it was his mentors and teachers or maybe it was just him but Cress? She didn't care about any of that.
It was strange for a young saiyan girl to act the way she did, but Athren knew he'd never change a thing even if he could. She was the highlight of his life, the one in his life that he'd put first, even before his little boy. There was something about having a daughter that changed him to the core. With Celric it was about pride and strength and making sure he could look after himself, with his daughter? It was about making her happy as often as possible and doing whatever it took to keep her safe. He'd never quite get over that feeling, he'd never understood it but he'd never trade it in for the world.

Who would have thought that she'd catch Athren attention with her knowledge about herbs and readiness to help? His words sounded distant, but at the same time, Ayu knew very well what he meant by them. Not every person would go out of their way to offer a helping head. The world was grey, cruel, and unkind, but that's why every little bit of kindness mattered. She never thought about it more, because there was no need to. If someone asked, the young woman was ready to collect herbs, making brews and decoctions for her sick neighbors. She'd look after farm animals or treat wounded bears or deers that she have found during her strolls through the woods. She was doing that without second thoughts or doubts. There were no benefits from that too. Frankly, it was only taking away her time, resources, and energy. Maybe one could call it foolishness, but Ayu wanted to live with her conscience clear, without guilt weighing on her soul. She wanted to help - wishing at times that she could do more than she was able to.
Ayu smiled again, but her smile was marked with a hint of sadness and understanding. No judgment in her mellow eyes, only a melancholic thoughtfulness.
"It's alright," she looked at her joined hands. "The world can be dangerous and we sometimes cannot afford to take responsibility for someone else's wellbeing when we struggle with our own safety."" Or their actions or words or decisions... Who knew? Ayu for sure wasn't counting herself as someone capable of looking out for herself - but she wouldn't hesitate to give away what she had to anyone in distress. It was just how she was... And yes, Athren's words did alarm her. Other people always frowned when she mentioned anything along the lines of sensing their presence. "I know what it is. At least, I t-think so..?" Ayu stroked her cheek with her pointing finger, pondering about Saiyan's advice. The perplexity of this sudden question was worse than she thought. Ki was energy and energy could be formed into a presence, a signature characteristic of individuals around. Simple like that, but it had a deeper meaning now? And to be honest, from who did Ayu hear the term Ki? It's like she simply knew about it since... Forever. "That's the name of energy in every living creature. I have it, Cress has it... I'm sure you have it too, but I can't seem to feel it properly." Ayu shook her head, not sure if she was supposed to point that out. "I'm not a fighter or a warrior..." she felt the need to explain herself when Athren's pointed out that she would be endangered by her power level. This was beyond confusing.
Because, how? She wasn't stronger or weaker than others, Ayu's signature simply was. Perhaps her ability wasn't as good and she couldn't assess herself nor the energy growing in her body as of late. So, what could she do..? Believing that the Saiyan was right was one thing - but feeling herself was another deal.
"Is my presence that different from others?" Ayu looked shyly at Athren with a genuine concern and uneasiness appeared in her voice - she wasn't simply not sure about the whole thing. There was part of her that went no way.... How could someone like her be a danger to anyone? Maybe she was just a tad bit stronger than others, but other than that - no, that wouldn't simply be right. She's just someone who never trained or tried anything related to physical fitness. "I can't really tell..." she slowly shook her head in apologetic gestrye, trying to shake this foreboding that started to linger in the back of her mind.
Thank goodness for Cress.
Ayu more than gladly raised her hand and extended the pinky, so they could make this little promise. It wasn't a lie. In a way Ayu was a friend of greenery - she felt all the plants and it perhaps could be even called a communication... She found their presence welcoming and talking to them was easier than trying to have any conversation with someone her age or older.
"Would you like to hear more about plants?" she asked Cress, tilting her head to the side so she could see her little face better. "Or I could tell you where to find pretty flowers here, what do you say? We could go there too," a warm feeling curled her lips into a sweet smile. Oh, there were so many spots she could show the little Saiyaness! The north of the bamboo forest was full of fields of flowers, and near her house, a patch of wild blossoms was hidden in the woods. Not to mention that Ayu's garden was full of flowers! She could teach Cress which are safe and which to avoid because no matter how pretty petals are, they could consist of deadly poison. It would be nice to have a small lesson on making flower crowns, but... Wasn't Ayu getting ahead of herself a little? She was convinced that the little, black-haired girl would love to stick around, but what if she doesn't? Or her father didn't approve..? After all, she asked her about what she wanted, but it was clear that her parents had the last word. Ayu raised her gaze at Athren carefully, a strand of light emphasized the opalescent effect in her pale irises. She blinked, trying to be more confident than a moment ago. "Of course, if your dad allows it," standing up and smoothing her skirt, she extended her hand to Cress. Like any older sister should do.

It was only natural that Athren's attention got more peaked when the conversation had shifted from plants and medical attention to things such as threats and sensing energy. Those were things Athren knew plenty about as he had spent his life training his knowledge and control over his own Ki to deal with threats towards him and the saiyan race. Now it was different, the only threats that concerned him were the ones that could be directed toward his children but in this case, the beautiful individual before him was of faint concern. She wasn't sure about her answer, she didn't seem overly knowledgeable about Ki, and she damn well had no idea how different she was from everybody else and that alone was worthy of a conversation between the two adults.
What would have happened next was rather strange, Athren listened to Ayu very deeply and soaked up every single word she had spoken regarding the topic but he didn't say a word back to her. If he was going to mention it, he couldn't have a distraction such as his daughter, he couldn't have any attention going anywhere else but to him. Of course, this was just to make sure she understood the exact position she found herself in. She was in danger, whether she had thought so or not. It was just a matter of time really until something or somebody had gotten involved in her life and she'd need to be ready for it.
He let the attention go back to his daughter for now, he'd wait for the most perfect moment to split them apart and almost like clockwork, almost as if somebody had been listening to his thoughts, Ayu herself delivered the perfect excuse. When Cress' attention was on Ayu, and Ayu's was on Cress the little girl was once again living her best life and enjoying every second she could. She listened to Ayu with every ounce of her being, ready to go explore the world and go find pretty flowers. "I'd really really like that! I wanna find the prettiest flowers for my new mom!" She laughed and giggled brightly, though when Ayu addressed Athren, Cress glared over towards her father. "Please, can we go!?" Her voice was innocent, curious, and full of excitement as she awaited her fathers' answer.
Athren on the other hand would take this opportunity as he had planned. He would slowly rise to his feet, his ocean blues focusing on his daughter as he approached. "Listen Cress, Why don't you head back to camp and go see if Ukare needs help cooking up any food? I'm sure he'd appreciate some help." Saying it aloud was weird, Ukare basically just consumed water yet, he liked contributing to the camp so he cooked often.
Cress on the other hand shook her head and didn't want to leave. "Please, can I stay just a little bit longer?" She wanted to stay with her new friend and learn more, she didn't want to go! She wanted this day to last forever.
Athren of course shook his head and looked over to Ayu before looking back to his daughter. "I'll tell you what Kiddo, If Ayu welcomes it. I'll bring you back to see her very soon and if she's cool with it. I'll even bail so you two can have girl time and talk about plants, boys, the stars, whatever it is girls talk about. Alright?" Athren's tone was full of honesty, he didn't see any harm in Ayu and didn't see any harm with her spending time with his daughter if she allowed it. He'd stay true to his word if Cress would just listen to him here without giving him much of a fuss.
Cress of course was excited with the concept of this trade, if she left now with little time remaining anyway, she'd get A FULL DAY WITH AYU? BY HERSELF!? IT SOUNDED JUST AS COOL AS HANGING OUT WITH ZERORI AND TRAINING TO BEAT HER BROTHER UP! "OKAY OKAY, I'M GOING!" It was at this point she tightly hugged Ayu. "I'll see you soon, okay!? YOU BETTER PLAN AN AWESOME DAY FOR US!" It was with that she sped off like a rocket, Barely letting Ayu get any words out. Cress had wanted it to happen SO SO SO badly that her goodbye was rather plain and bland.
Once his daughter was gone though, Athren had the floor. He looked to Ayu and took a few steps back, from what he saw she was nervous and it wasn't something oblivious to him how this could look, him dismissing his daughter, leaving only the two of them in the woods together. He had zero ill intent, but he wanted to SHOW her firsthand that he was in fact harmless. Athren broke whatever tension there may have been with some light hearted banter. "I really hope you're up for it, otherwise.. I'm never going to hear the end of it. Once that girl has her hopes set on something, she doesn't stop talking about it."
Of course he spoke facts, and he hoped that Ayu would be receptive to this. He wanted her to be comfortable so he could get closer and discuss just how powerful and amazing Ayu truly was. Compared to the rest of the Earthlings, she was on a league of her own. Though she cute and innocent, she had a power inside of her that would rival some of the toughest of saiyan's, she was unique, she was something else. The biggest beat though, was that every single individual who could sense Ki on this Planet was sensing her right now. If they had the motives, it wouldn't be hard to exploit her. Though Athren tended to not look out for strangers, her kindness to his daughter had granted her a pass, whether she welcomed it or not, he was going to speak his mind and by the end of it, inform her of just how amazing she was.

That's why Ayu loved children. Their innocence and eagerness to learn what they didn't know were charming, their simple nature devoid of prejudice. Even that straightforwardness that was often seen as a sign of rudeness was something so pure and so... So child-like and heartwarming. She liked the sparkle in Cress's blue eyes, determined, stubborn, and full of life. Perhaps that's why she felt comfortable in their presence, and it was easier to talk to children than people her age or older. If she'd suggest taking a walk to see flowers blooming nearby an adult would probably roll their eyes... Maybe she was a little childish herself? Or most likely she didn't need much to feel happy or entertained, which others found absurd. A little abashed at her experiences, Ayu gave Cress a warm smile. It didn't matter, because right now everything was alright in the world. She was ready to go with the little girl, to show her the wild poppies, buttercups, and cornflowers, teaching her about their prosperities and effects. Her eagerness was the best reward for her time and she didn't mind spending the whole day like that...
... Yet Athren seemed to have other plans. Ayu sensed a faint feeling of disappointment appearing in her mind, but mostly because she felt bad for Cress. The little Saiyaness was so happy, but now her father reminded her of her duties and a family banter started. Touching her cheek with her pointing finger, Ayu grew flustered because she didn't feel authorized to say anything, though she wanted to.
Ayu remembered watching her classmates when she was a kid, looking at them interacting with their parents. Little kids were bratty sometimes, that was undeniable... They would climb on their loved ones demanding attention and affection, fight with them, shoot their mouths out or whine about wanting some ice cream. There were hugs, kisses, banters and giggles, and all the things that she never experienced. Ayu always envied those kids and their relationships, because they had someone they could act like that with. Zhang was a big, gruff, and scary individual and she wouldn't possibly be ever able to feel this way around him - even as a kid she was a proper little girl, never causing trouble. Sometimes he patted her head, but he's eyes were always... No, not cold, but they looked so indifferent Ayu thought that it would be better if he'd hated her. At least then she would know what she meant to him... And to this point, Zhang's apathetic and calm energy wasn't hinting at anything.
"Of course," Ayu's eyes softened when she complied with Athren's proposition. Thankfully he wasn't one bit similar to her grandfather, soothing Cress and giving them a chance to meet again. Even if from a different point of view she was agreeing to be a nanny for a day, Ayu didn't mind at all. She smiled, stroking Cress's back, and embraced her back. The little warrior was so friendly and energetic that it was warming up her heart, and she couldn't wait to see her again. But how long would that take? If they are camping, they most likely are here on a trip or vacation, so it probably won't take long before this vivid spot of energy would leave the Earth. She couldn't help but sigh a little. She'd be thankful if at least once before that happens she could take care of Cress. Her tiny home would probably be turned upside down, but it would be so worth it. "Drop by my place anytime, I'll make-" she didn't even finish. The girl gave her a loving squeeze and bolted away, waving as she left the area. Ayu blinked and albeit a little slow, smiled and waved back at her heartfully.
And suddenly she was with Athren in the bamboo forest, just the two of them. That... Wasn't ideal. With Cress warming the atmosphere and occupying Ayu's mind, she wasn't feeling so cautious with her father's presence, but now? One on one she started feeling uneasiness rising. Her first reaction would be to hide behind something, but she wasn't abashed by the stranger - only her shy nature was coming into play. And perhaps watchful ocean-colored eyes weren't making it easy. Ayu's hands fidgeted so she held them together, waiting for gods know what. What he was going to say? Talk about his daughter or mention again the ability to feel the energy? In both cases, she wasn't sure there was more to say. The young woman promised to play with Saiyaness and warrior-in-the-making, and when it comes to Ki... That topic was still sensitive. His words weren't cold nor was he too friendly, but Ayu wasn't able to tell if she was only being informed or advised? And the fact that she couldn't feel Saiyan's energy was getting more highlighted, it probably had something to do with the ability to sense others. Most likely. She was sure he was assessing her Ki for the whole time here, but she couldn't sense anything... Like he wasn't even there.
"I will be glad to," Ayu raised her hand in a calming gesture, reassuring Athren that she wasn't going to toy with his little daughter's expectations. She'd happily take care of her if that be only needed. Some energy and life would be welcomed in her always-too-quiet place. A sense of warmth lit in the opalescent eyes. "Cress is an adorable, headstrong child, I enjoy her company," joining her hands together, Ayu's lips curled into a soft smile. "I just hope she won't nag you about it as much as you say," she added with a careful hint of humor, making sure she wouldn't irritate anyone with her words. After all, parents dote on their children.
... There was a moment of awkward silence.
Yet, in the quiet moment filled with the soft rustling of grass and distant creaking of bamboo stalks, Ayu thought that it was a chance to ask about something. Something that was on her mind since Athren approached her and Cress, but what never was addressed - well, until now. Would it be alright to be so direct... The young woman felt some heat on her face, which of course, had to blush a little every time she got nervous. She never liked that, but it's not like she was in control of her emotions... Rubbing her cheeks, she sighed.
"Well. If I'm n-not being meddlesome..." she gathered the resolve to ask, putting one of her arms around her. It was hard to look at Athren directly, so Ayu tilted her head a bit, focusing on making sure she can voice her question correctly. "Is it alright for me to ask, why c-can't I sense your energy..?"
