Appearance - Ayu is... Easily overlooked. With her average height of 5'2'', modest appearance, and simple clothing she's far from a striking individual. Just a shy girl from the city's outskirts, living her life peacefully in a boring neighborhood. She's not a warrior, she doesn't see herself as one, and yet in the case of power, there's a hidden strength in Ayu's delicate body. Surprise, surprise. Her slim and harmless posture isn't exactly athletic, but she's very fit for her age. And quite curvy to that. As a young teen often teased about her looks, which lead to a bit of a complex. Moreover, there are details in her appearance that doesn't fit human standards - or any other known race standards, in particular, so Ayu feels safer strategically covered in clothing.
Her head is adorned with very long and thick hair, dark green in color, messy and shiny, mimicking the appearance of long leaves. They are usually tied up in a long braid that reaches the middle of her tights. A smaller, thin braid on the right side of her face, helps to keep in check a few loose locks, while leafy bangs cover her eyebrows. Thick strands of green obscure her face... Ayu maybe isn't an eye-catching beauty, but her features are charming if someone looks closely. Kagyuu got a heart-shaped face with gentle, sweet-looking facial features – a small nose, soft pinkish lips, and big eyes with opalescent, pale yellow irises. But the devil is in the details, isn't it? A pretty little mouth hides small fangs sharper than any human teeth. Both her tongue and her blood got the same dark rose color. That's also the reason when Ayu blushes, her cheeks are not red, but raspberry pink - and the truth is - she blushes frequently.
She got few things that differ her from regular human – white nails, pointy ears hidden under locks of hair, fangs, and her skin. The complexion is an unusual shade of bleached green mixed with pastel pink, giving her a specific hue of more humanly looking greenish skin. If that wasn't enough in the darkness her yellow eyes seem to emit a faint luminescent glow. And lastly, she has those specific lines on the lateral side of her body, with the rings around her wrists and ankles. They seem to be naturally carved in her body – Ayu usually hides them under clothing. Actually, there's a lot to hide...
Personality - Fate decided to give Ayu a particularly gentle nature, graced with Buddhist-like patience. Polite, well-mannered, and soft-spoken, she is a very diligent and mature young lady. A lady who tends to be a bit philosophical at times... Thinking how life isn't either black or white – but in every shade of gray. As complicated as it sounds, she knows one thing – never to judge others, each life is precious and every story has more than one side. With that open-minded approach, Ayu is a serene and bright being with lots of kindness piled up in her soul. Knowledge about an uneasy and harsh world isn't hidden from her. The girl after all wants to do what's right. Thing is... She's awfully shy. A mean remark or a tease can leave Kagyuu blushing and embarrassed, in extreme situations filling her yellow eyes with tears. There's a lack of experience with social interactions that left her awkward and meek at times. She's like an open book with emotions written all over her face, terrible at hiding her moods. But at the same time, she's painfully stubborn. She's concerned about her family, friends, and even strangers. And being such a caring person has more disadvantages than merits – she can worry too much.
Compassionate to a fault, for better or worse. Without a second thought, she offers a helping hand and is always trying to be at peace with the world. She's not much of a fighter and if there's one thing she can't stand, it's violence. Of course, Kagyuu is aware that sometimes someone just has to stand up for others and fight back - overall she feels a strong aversion toward senseless force without reason or justification. Maybe it's because of her honest nature or just uncommon empathy, she can't stand harm. Seeing a living creature being trampled and injured in a matter of seconds when the process of healing takes months or even years... Fills her with sorrow. There is a persistence in her mind, that can't let her turn her head away from those she wants to help. In that modest soul burns a quiet flame. She might be bashful, but she is not timid – in danger or in particular events, she raises her head and speaks her mind. Ayu's soft heart hides an iron will. Her calmness is strong as the quiet and powerful river. She can be brave and determined, slowly going through obstacles, and taking her time to reach her goals... But she simply has to find the courage to act first. With all that potential and the inner need to take things into her own hands, only a little push is required to set things in motion.
History - Ayu was born as a regular human. With a different name and appearance, she had a home and family, a younger sibling, and both loving parents... She does not remember it herself, her memories were wiped clean. But can anyone surely say they memorized every waking moment of their lives?
A nasty car crash, an unavoidable collision that took three lives – her younger brother and both parents died, leaving a little girl barely at age of five struggling to survive. She was rushed to the hospital and taken care of, but despite medical workers' efforts and dedication, there wasn't much they could do. The girl was beyond saving. One quirky doctor, an older lady named Williams took very... Odd interest in the poor girl. Checking on her every few hours, reading the survey results, trying her best to ease the pain. Little patient was her perfect candidate. Very young, stubbornly holding to her last spark of life. Her body was still developing. The girl had no other family and even if by some miracle she'd get back to health, no one was waiting for her at home. And that's why Williams smuggled her out one evening, announcing her death – no one at the hospital was surprised by it, really... The fake, very expensive doll was placed in the mortuary, some documents altered and rewritten, and she suddenly was dead for the whole world.
Truth is, her barely alive body was stolen and put in the little, private laboratory of the unusual duo of scientists. It was the partnership between two genius minds, curious about the unknown and using their knowledge and experience for things not exactly... Ethical. Opinions may vary, of course. They wanted to try saving the girl's life, by any means necessary – yet, her life itself wasn't a priority. Just the sole process was interesting to them. Why? For the sake of knowledge, that's why. Simply to see if they can.
Genetics engineer, Zhang Yibai took the project into his own hands, as he was the originator of the whole plan. Slowly, but surely the scientist modified the girl's genes. Her human body was a base. She was to be fused with sets of different DNA – Namekian, aquatic Beastfolk, and minor genes of other origins to amplify the process. Those samples weren't obtained legally either but were chosen because of their properties. Even if there was no guarantee that his method would succeed, Zhang worked diligently - the whole process was very slow. It took a whole year for him to cell by cell and piece by piece modify a human body like that. He sought the solution and answer, for the first year biologically re-engineering her body, and taking another year just to stabilize her organism. The whole time the little patient was in an induced coma. Her brain functions, her organs, and muscles were constantly kept in check until she'd be ready to leave the laboratory. Everything indicated that whatever Zhang and Williams were doing, it was working. The girl's organism was slowly regenerating itself. Her appearance changed gradually as the new, altered genetic structure of her body became more stable. And finally, she was all set to be woken up, an experiment deemed a fruitful success.
But, originally, the child did not have any purpose after the procedure. She was never meant to be a weapon after all. The idea was to put the girl up for adoption and monitor her health, yet, Williams had second thoughts. What if her cells would start breaking down one day? What if there be any complications? Williams persuaded Yibai to take care of the little one and after lots of nagging, he agreed. As their scientific partnership ceased to exist after this project, he, a fifty old cranky genetic genius moved to a small house on the outskirts. With his adoptive granddaughter of course. He changed his job to a genetics lecturer in the Biology Department at East City University, seeking calmer, unsuspicious life. The girl woke up soon after.
She was named Kagyuu Yibai.
Ayu learned she was taken in after her parents died in the accident, which was explained to her at least... But that's all she knew. The girl couldn't recall anything else, not even her own name or family's faces. Her memories were a blank page, which was blamed on the trauma after the car crash. Nothing about bioengineering, nor about her being an unusual bio-android was ever brought up either - but when there's an unspoken matter in the household, it tends to weigh heavily on those it involves.
Living with her grandfather wasn't an easy task. It took Ayu some time to make peace with her new life, and grumpy, always busy Zhang wasn't the supportive type. After she became old enough to take care of herself, he regularly left for his work. Grandfather would disappear for months, getting back to check on her unexpectedly, only to leave again two days later. Aunt Williams would stop by sometimes too, but, truth be told, Ayu felt lonely. She might have lacked parental love or guidance but instead gained independence and lots of time to think. And she thought about herself a lot. Kagyuu was aware that she was different, that she wasn't exactly human - but there was no one to confide in. Small school on the outskirts, her home and garden, forests, fields, and a few charming villages around the area, that was her whole world. Was she an unknown alien that arrived on Earth years ago with her family? Or some unidentified hybrid? With increasing hostility towards aliens on the blue planet, she was growing anxious about her origin. Zhang would dismiss her every time she would try asking him about that matter, grumbling that she has unreasonable thoughts. Yet the whispering doubt wasn't going away.
Her suspicion was proved when she was fourteen. Ayu accidentally cut her hand with gardening scissors and within three minutes the wound closed and completely regenerated. Other abilities appeared soon after, some were with her since she could remember, but she never questioned them as something unnatural. Well, she wasn't human, that was obvious... The question about who she was could be never answered. Despite that grim awareness still making her uneasy deep in her soul, Ayu grew up to be a polite, compassionate young woman. Her life was, more or less, peaceful. She took care of the house and garden – she found her love for plants, herbs, and flowers, enjoying taking care of them. She went to school, was a model student, and never caused trouble or worries for her grandfather. Plain, simple life. For now.
Who knows, what the future would hold?
Techniques
[ST1] Plant Empathy - Ayu can tell what flora around her is feeling. It's not exactly a clear communication using words, but rather overlapping waves made of emotions and sensations. She can tell what plants need or what harms them, and what has changed in their surroundings. Simply, it's the next level of having a green thumb.
[ST1] Energy Sense - This ability allows her to sense the life force and power level, roughly pinpointing the location and strength of living beings. Moreover, to her, every energy has a different feel. It doesn't work on those who can suppress their power.
[ST1] Underwater Breathing - Thanks to her Beastfolk genes Ayu can breathe underwater with ease. Inhaled water does not end up in her lungs, instead, it runs down through the lines on the sides of her body.
[ST1] Herbal Medicine - Years of tending to plants and studying herbs gave Ayu enough knowledge to be able to use it in practice. She's able to make simple medicines, dress and sew wounds, and relieve pain. Of course, she's not a specialized doctor, but she does what she can.
100% Stamina to patch one bleed damage wound. Increasing heal rate to 30%.
[DT1] Energy Barrier - A vivid green energy forms a protective bubble around Ayu, reducing or even blocking the damage from both physical and energy attacks. The greater in her favor is the difference between her and the attacker's strength, the stronger her defense.
[DT1] Blink Trick - With this simple dodging technique, Ayu releases a small amount of energy that creates an afterimage of her in the air to momentarily confuse the opponent. It lasts only for a blink of an eye but allows her to dodge the incoming attack.

The summer evening painted the sky with warm hues of vibrant orange and soft pink. Sun was slowly setting behind the forest's line and very slowly breeze started to cool down as the hot, sultry day was ending. Time passed way too quickly... Wasn't it a morning a moment ago? Spending the whole day gardening, Ayu didn't even realize when hours passed one by one. Plants around her stretched their leaves, asking for less watering than she'd thought. Air still felt moist and heavy, perhaps a storm would arrive at night? Ayu was studying the sky, but the clear horizon wasn't proving her suspicion in the slightest. Well, trees knew better than her. The girl sighed slowly, turning her head towards home. A small, cozy building surrounded by a stately garden was perfectly fitting the area between the city's outskirts and overgrown woods. And the garden... Well-kept plants here were her pride. Wet grass felt soft and refreshing under Ayu's feet, while she was fighting with the watering hose, rolling up the rubbery cord. Two baskets full of vegetables were already neatly placed near the kitchen door, ready to be taken in. Everything was exactly where it was supposed to be.
After spending the whole day in the garden, Ayu looked exactly like someone who was working with soil and plants. Bare feet, smudges of soil here and there, some tiny twigs and leaves got caught in braided hair. While she was walking around the garden, once again checking everything, the last rays of the sun dyed everything with gold. Drops falling from leaves and petals caught the light, flickering pleasantly, as the girl felt a calm, fulfilling sensation of finished duty. It was a chore, alright, but to her, it was more of a pleasure. And just as she was picking up gardening tools scattered around, something stirred the harmony of this quiet evening.
Air changed. There was a small outburst of energy in the forest followed by a distant echo of something crashing into the ground. Startled birds covered the sky for a brief moment, their wings pitch black against the setting sun. Ayu froze and stood still. Focused, with a small drop of sweat on her temple she tried to feel what has just happened. The sensation of burning Ki shook her inside, but as quickly as this undersized explosion took place, it disappeared in an instant. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, the forest was quiet again. Maybe too quiet... The girl closed her eyes, trying to pick the slightest change in the status quo around her. Trees, animals, everything seemed normal. Her fingers anxiously started playing with the tip of her braid. And as Ayu started wondering if it maybe was only her imagination, the sound of the door abruptly opening made her jump in her spot.
"Grandpa!" she called him relieved to see a familiar figure behind her. Zhang was leaving the house, dressed in a business suit and with packed briefcases in his hands. A tall, old, brooding man with greying hair and a messy beard glanced in her direction, nodded, and turned around stepping towards his old car. Ayu walked there, leaning over the fence to see what was happening there. Usually, Zhang was always busy, locked in his study or away for weeks. And now grandfather was unlocking the car and placing heavy satchels inside, murmuring something to himself. That would mean only one thing. "Are you... Leaving for work at this hour?" Ayu asked, her soft voice lowering with concern and a hint of melancholy. She looked up at the sky above the forest worryingly and back to him, but grandfather was too focused on preparing to leave to notice that.
"Something came up. Don't wait for me." And with that minimized explanation Zhang sat in front of the wheel.
"... A-alright. Please take care." He didn't look in Ayu's direction when the car door was closed and the vehicle slowly moved onto the road. The girl stood barefoot in the garden for a while, following the grey car with her eyes until it disappeared between distant buildings. Zhang's behavior wasn't anything new, but something again pricked her chest. No matter. There's no use thinking about that.
Ayu decided to call it a night. She tidied up the garden, took a shower, and settled in her bed with a book, but the words she read on paper were slipping away from her attention.
She couldn't sleep either.
The wind outside rose, whistling ominously along the tree branches. Sky alarmingly fast covered itself with dark clouds. The girl found herself quietly looking from the window at the darkening world, the outline of the moving trees and rustling leaves. The storm was approaching... The first lightning appeared far above the forest, and the rumbling thunder echoed in the fields. The light of the lamp on her nightstand flickered. How ominous. Growing uneasiness wasn't making it easier for Ayu. As the tension was reaching its peak the silence was torn to pieces when a loud noise of something heavy falling down rang in front of her front door. The girl shivered. She couldn't feel anything hostile around her house. But what if she's wrong? Grabbing the sweater, on the tips of her toes, she walked towards the entrance with a small spark of her energy lighting up the way in the dark. The presence she sensed on the other side of the door seemed too small and harmless to do anything... Was it a burglar? A thief? She took one deep breath, then another, and for best measures another one.
When Ayu finally pressed the handle, just making a small opening to look at what was happening outside, something sprung inside. It landed on her forearms, hard claws digging inside her skin, and bounced off with inhumanly ragged breathing. Ayu flinched, startled, but the light shone on...
"A c-cat?", the girl asked a rhetorical question, looking at the dirty, soaked wet tabby feline, that hid under the table. A glance outside showed the empty bins rolling on the ground, poor thing must have been looking for shelter and made a mess. It felt like a heavy stone dropped from her heart. Locking up the door Ayu looked down at her arms - the skin between wrists and elbows was marked with straight, vivid lines, in a few spots claws damaged the skin. Dark rose blood dripped on the floor, but the wounds themselves weren't causing her any pain. They have almost healed anyway. Wiping it away, Ayu crouched down near the table. The cat hissed trying to fit in the crack in the wall without any success. She heard it right - dreadful, rough breathing like a sound of a broken machine escaped the ajar mouth of the small creature. It must have been sick for some time now.
"It's alright, I don't mean you any harm," Ayu said softly, looking at the startled, full of panic eyes that were looking at her with a hostile fear. A cornered, terrified animal could lash out at any moment... "You poor thing, it must have been hard out there," she sighed with empathy. The girl stood up, grabbed a blanket from the chair, and slid it under the table. A good deed was only welcomed with more agitated hissing. "I know you're scared, it's okay. I know how it feels..." there was a little pause in her warm voice, but Ayu shook her head. After heating a saucer of milk, she added three drops of valerian to help her nightly visitor calm down. The plate too was slid down into the hideout, and the girl sat nearby on the floor. Light in her hand was reflected by the cat's eyes, who with a low growl was glaring at her with suspicion. Still talking gently to her guest, Ayu waited patiently for the cat to get used to her presence. It might take a while, but she didn't mind. On this stormy night, she was grateful that she wasn't alone.
A pair of luminescent eyes looked at the house from the darkness, blinked, and disappeared like they were never there.
