It's been weeks since Daru and Sayah confronted General Gong in relations to the young demon's mission on finding her parents and bringing them back, only for the true motive to be revealed that Gong anticipated on Daru murdering them as means to toughen her up. What was once a crazed conspiracy theory against who the two thought to be a father figure as he looked out for both of them turned into a nasty truth that had to be dealt with. The ultimate conclusion came to Gong being brutally beaten and sworn to step down as his official position as general in addition to never speak about their incident to anyone. It might've been hard to deal with someone who was thought to be the light in a gruesome darkness that was Frost, but Gong was no different than anyone else in the faction.
What really took Daru by surprise was Sayah's involvement. After all the times Daru threatened her in the moment, after berating her, the girl still stuck around. She showed almost blind loyalty to the young demon, or perhaps it wasn't blind loyalty, but rather she had so much trust in Daru that she was the only person that she knew that would look out for her, so Sayah had no choice but to stick with Daru. It was a somewhat bittersweet thought to ponder about. On one hand, Sayah considered the young demon to be her friend even if Daru wouldn't reciprocate the feeling. On the other hand, Sayah had no one but Daru, and if given the opportunity, she may abandon her for someone better than her. However... after what she put Sayah through and the simple fact she still stayed with Daru, maybe it was time for her to consider the girl as a friend of her own.
Daru idly laid on her couch, staring at the ceiling in the common area of her home. She was in her usual casual attire: an all black outfit consisting of a simple, short sleeved t-shirt, shorts, and socks. She wasn't called in for any mission and Gong kept his word as she hadn't heard anything from the man nor from the higher authorities within the faction. This called for a time of relaxation until it'd be ruined by whatever fate would throw at her. Unfortunately for her, she heard a series of rapid knocks on her door. Damn it all. Just when she wanted to get a few moments to herself.
The young demon pulled herself off of the couch and approached the door. She already knew who was knocking madly at her door in the afternoon, but she was silent until she pulled the door open. There, was a young woman who had long jet black hair, cat ears and hawk wings on her back. Daru was then greeted with a friendly smile from the girl and a pack of beer held in one hand and another bag filled with what the demon would assume would be goodies of sorts, mainly candy. "Sayah." She greeted saluted her close acquaintance with a nod, her facial expression slightly lightening up with a soft smile. It was the most she could do as a means to change the pace between the two and a way to somehow thank Sayah for staying by her side.
Sayah thought she was seeing things when Daru smiled at her. She smiled. She was actually smiling at her. No, her eyes were deceiving her... but there she was. Smiling! "Hope you don't mind me coming over unannounced. I thought it'd be best to check up on you in person rather than through the phone. Want make sure you're physically doing alright." She said as she lifted her hands up with the bag and container of beer.
"...With daytime drinking." Daru sarcastically pointed out.
"Bite me, give me points for trying!" Sayah joked. "Anyway, mind if I come in? It won't be too long, and I won't try to get you all drunk. You have a better alcohol tolerance than me, anyway." She asked.
Daru stayed silent for a few moments before she shrugged her shoulders and stepped to the side, allowing space for Sayah to come into the house. "Very well, you can come in." She said.

With a nod of her own, Sayah slid past Daru and into her home. She placed the items down and opened the container to take out a large can of beer. Jimorrow, a brand Sayah considered to be top tier and a beverage that Daru was delighted with. She then opened the bag filled with candy and took out a dark chocolate bar before planting herself on the other side of the couch. Sayah was initially wearing on whether or not Daru was able to handle chocolate, given her demonic canine lineage, but she was washed in relief when Daru handled it like any other being who didn't have some sort of allergic reaction to it. "So uh... any word from our boy Gong?" She asked.
Sayah assumed it was a touchy subject to bring up and already she regret bringing it up. Thankfully, Daru took out a can of Jimorrow and sat close to the girl; something Sayah considered a little out of character of the young demon since she usually kept her distance. Not just from her, but in general. Was she actually opening up to Sayah somehow? Could this really be happening? "No. It's been nothing but radio silence on his end and I haven't heard anything from the higher ups either in regards to our encounter. Seems like he kept his line of the bargain." Daru cracked the can open and took a long chug before she set it on the table. "By the way, thank you for coming to check on me. I appreciate it more than you think." She then took the bar and opened it to take a bite before returning her attention to the beer.
"Oh! Yeah! No problem." Sayah chuckled. It was good news, surprising, but good nonetheless, that Gong kept his mouth shut. He knew better than to try and cross Daru out of all people. Sayah knew. "It's... uh, what friends are for. Right?" She took a big leap of faith with the assumption that the young demon saw her as a friend. After what happened from beginning to end on the Gong ordeal, after the vulnerabilities they shared with each other, she assumed that was the case. She was more than prepared, however, to retract her statement if that wasn't the case.
Sayah was given silence as a response, ready to take back what she said, but it appeared that wasn't needed when the young demon nodded her head. "Of course." She was nonchalant with her response as she already finished her first can of beer and reached for another, but Sayah couldn't believe what she was hearing. She couldn't stop her eyes widening from shock. She... did it. She actually considered the two to be friends. She definitely had to be dreaming, but it was a dream she refused to wake up from.
"Yeah... yeah, of course. G-Great." It was evident that Sayah tried to contain her excitement, but it was for the best for Daru to keep the comment to herself to save the girl for any potential embarrassment. "So, super glad that you're doing well since it looks like we're both off for the time being. That said, checking up on you wasn't the only reason I came over." She admitted.
"Really, now? And what else do you have to share?" She asked. Daru rose an eyebrow at Sayah as she leaned slightly forward from curiosity, eyes narrowed in interest. What else did Sayah have up in her sleeves?

Sayah flashed her signature prankish smile at the young demon as she only gave her a playful stare as her initial response. Anything could be going on inside that head of hers. The girl had a reputation for causing some mischief or giving other soldiers a hard time, though only if they deserved it and never just whenever she pleased. Was she going to try and mess with someone and wanted to drag Daru down to her level? It might've been the reality of the young demon claiming to be officially friends with Sayah, hence the inviting grin. It appeared Daru had to make things clear with Sayah and lay out new ground rules if they were going to be friends; that first ground rule being "exclude Daru from all potential and future mischiefs".
However, that wasn't the case as Sayah explained further. Not before she had a sip of her beer "You've heard of him throughout Frost, specifically Frost. He's known to be a legend... a myth... a figure that has only been uttered through stories and the likes..." She trailed off as she wiggled her free fingers to imitate a ghost to create some sort of "spooky" atmosphere, but as expected, Daru only stared at Sayah in return to signal that her patience was already short with her. She could already feel the daggers from that stare piercing through her. The girl fixed her posture before awkwardly huffing a cough to clear her throat before she continued. "P-Pola. I'm talking about Pola." She clarified with a meek voice.
Daru laid back in her seat as she continued to stare at her new friend, though this time in inquisitiveness as Sayah finally revealed who she was referring to. Pola was known to be the "only master" on Frost, but his presence often came up sparse. Rarely did he ever meet anyone, let alone shown himself to anyone. Only a handful of people has met the legend himself, but very few have been taken in as his pupils. He was a Changeling whose abilities were very unique of his race. Some even thought that was all he was: a pure myth. "Mm. And what of him?" She asked as she took another big bite of her chocolate bar.
"Well, I overheard a few idiots in Diskord actually spotting him in the living flesh." Sayah explained. It wasn't often, if not at all thought to be possible to find Pola in person. One thing that made him puzzling was that he always moved. He never stood in one spot, understandably so since the more traction he'd brought on himself, the more likely unwanted visitors would try to capture his very appearance. It was a smart move, Daru would admit. "Someone said the last time they saw him was around the Serene Lake within an icy cave, something like that." She said.
Serene Lake. As the name spoke for itself, it was a peaceful area that brought nothing but tranquility and the cool breeze that could never compare to the hellish cold temperatures offered by other areas within the planet. What made it unique was that its lake was never frozen and it was never discovered as to why. It was actually a suitable, yet predictable spot for Pola to lurk in. Still, Daru didn't know where Sayah was going with all of this. What the hell was she planning to do? "Okay... I'm still not sure what exactly you're trying to propose here." She pointed out.
Sayah sighed while she shook her head, flabbergasted that Daru didn't pick up on the hints. "I'm saying that we should pay him a visit. You know, convince him to take us in as his pupils to teach his some of his techs! If not me, then it should definitely be you!" She exclaimed.

Meeting with Pola... it was an engrossing thought to mentally play out. Having the only living legend, of course, among others, but even then the legitimacy could be questioned, take Daru in as his student to teach her his special techniques would've been an honor. Not only that, but this could also be seen as an opportunity to boost her reputation. Before she knew it, more grunts would bow down before her and kiss the ground that the young demon gracefully walked on. None would even dare try to ridicule her or even stare at her direction without some form of mockery and disgust, puffing their chests as if they're tough when in reality they're nothing, even with the title of being a PTO soldier.
It all sounded good, though it sounded too good to be true. As expected, Daru wasn't one to share such enthusiasm unlike Sayah, who was more than ecstatic with the idea of approaching a master like Pola himself. She had her doubts, and some may call her a pessimist. She'd call herself a realist. "And what makes you think he would take in a couple of PTO soldiers, more than likely think that we're not above the rest of these grunts that call themselves soldiers?" Of course she saw herself above most PTO "soldiers", though she was in the presumed mindset of someone like Pola so she played out as if he saw himself above the faction altogether.
"Sheesh, aren't you a Debbie downer?" Sayah scoffed. "You're strong as hell compared to me. You're even stronger than most of these bozos in the org! I'm sure he has no problem taking you in. Me, on the other hand..." Sayah trailed off into awkward silence the moment she brought herself into the conversation. Sayah lacked in power greatly to someone like the young demon. That wasn't to say that she was weak; she was far from it. The question remained in whether or not her power was enough to impress someone like Pola. Hell, she wasn't even sure if her own power impressed Daru. "A-Anyway, it wouldn't hurt to visit him and do some sweet talking. Kiss his ass a little, if we have to." She said.
Daru couldn't help but make a face at the suggestion marked at the end of Sayah's little answer. "Legend or now, strong or weak, I will never do such a thing." It wasn't the pride that was talking, but rather that she had too much dignity and respect for herself to bend herself backwards for anyone no matter who it was. Especially not someone who would sniff out false compliments that were empty behind their authenticity.
"Alright, alright," Sayah waved her hand in dismissal as she took a small sip of her beer. "But my point still stands. We convince the dude to let us be his students. If it works, it works and we get to brag and showcase our talents! If not, that's fine. We tried." She said.
Daru hummed in contemplation as she took the last big bite of her bar. It wouldn't hurt to try. After all, the idea did sound extremely enticing. She'd be extremely disappointed, if not pissed, if Pola wouldn't take them in. However, it'd also be a little exciting to admit that she was another soul that saw Pola. Not that she would ever actually do it since she'd seem a bit much like some fangirl like the rest of these grunts that'd share the same sentiment. "Fine, you've convinced me." She said. Before Sayah could even yelp in glee, Daru continued. "I'd assume we'd have to catch up with him as soon as we can today. If that's the case, it probably would've been wise not to drag in beer so we don't end up smelling like the rest of the faction." She scolded as she placed the can down on the table.
Sayah sheepishly smiled as she put her own can down. "Well... we'll freshen up first, THEN we'll go see Pola. He should be there by the time we get there, anyway. I hear he usually moves the next day, so we got all the time to prepare before we meet him." She said.

After a quick few hours of freshening up and ridding the stench of alcohol from both their bodies and clothing, Sayah and Daru were on their way to meet Pola at the Serene Lake. Once they arrived, they were met with a soft breeze that graced their bodies, relieving them from the usual harsh breeze and temperature they would receive elsewhere on the planet. Surrounded by mountains, the ground littered with snow, and a few signs of plant life being present, it felt eerily calmingly, adding the soothing sound of the running lake. It was a surreal scenery to take in, considering it was Daru and Sayah's first time ever coming to this location. For some reason, the atmosphere felt... uncanny in what was showcased to be a more pacifying area. It could had something to do with the idea that Pola himself was in this very spot.
Sayah surveyed the area for the cave she mentioned earlier, but to no avail, she was unable to spot it. "Damn it, there was supposed to be some sort of cave around here." She muttered to herself. "Well... screw it. Cave or not, all I know for sure is that Pola's around here somewhere. We just got to look for him." She stated to hold a high morale of some sort. She already knew the young demon wasn't exactly sharing the same view and hope Sayah did. Daru might already think that this was all a waste of time.
Daru also turned her head around in every direction she could to see if she spotted a figure; any figure. She couldn't even sense any distinct power level besides Sayah, who was significantly lower than the demon. "I don't even sense anyone else besides you. Not even a sense of suppression." She pointed out the fact. It was possible that Pola was able to suppress his power to the point where it couldn't be sensed in the first place. With how large the area was, it was also feasible for the Changeling to be almost anywhere here. "In that case, let's take a look around, see what and who we can find." She suggested.
"Alright... yeah..." Sayah was shocked that Daru didn't immediately jump to calling this off and a waste of time, but she knew better than to point it out. "So... this place is hella big. I think the best we can do is just split up and cover our grounds. If one of us find him, we'll ping each other and-"
"That won't be necessary."
Sayah jumped at the new voice that echoed behind them while Daru turned her head around to see who was near. The voice was deep, full of confidence and authority. There, the young demon spotted a tall light gray Changeling with red accents. His arms were crossed against his chest as he stared down the two women with cold eyes while he levitated in the air. He looked menacing to those that never witnessed anyone that oozed in self-assurance without forcing it.
That was him. The Changeling before them was Pola, the only master on Frost.
"So you must be Pola." Daru coolly greeted, returning the same gaze at the Changeling. She didn't point out the fact that she was unable to sense him at all, and although she was impressed, her pride refused to let her admit it.
"And you must be Daru. And this one here," Pola took a moment to nudge his head at the direction of her companion. "Must be Sayah." He stated.
"Wha... I-I mean yes! Yes! This here is Daru and I'm Sayah!" The girl couldn't believe that the Changeling knew who the two were, and she made no effort to hide the surprise on her face. She wasn't even going to ask how he knew who they were among thousands of other PTO soldiers. The young demon, on the other hand, remained stoic while she continued to view the Changeling from the ground. Daru was curious to how much the Changeling knew about the two to the extent of their history, or preferably, their current events.
Pola hummed in contemplation as he eyed the two women, moreso on Daru compared to Sayah. He noticed Daru's rather strangely impressive power level compared to most other PTO soldiers. Even Sayah's power level paled in comparison. Though, he wasn't ready to give out compliments just yet. "And I'd assume you two are here the same reason everyone else ventures for me. You're looking for guidance." He spoke.
Guidance. Not training, but guidance. Daru could already tell he saw himself above most, if not everyone on the planet, just as she predicted. She refused to agree with the point of view, but played along very careful to watch his reaction. She wanted to get on his good side while maintaining her decency than to fall into trying to shower him with compliments that held no weight or please him to stroke his ego. "Of your techniques, sure. In general? I think we've both suffered enough to guide us through this damned planet with a faction made up of mostly incompetent soldiers. You won't add much value in that regard. So please, don't think you're doing us much of a favor." She replied.
Sayah's eyes widen at the remark and attempted to shush Daru. This woman was about to cost them an opportunity! Instead, they were met with a low rumble that resembled a chuckle. She turned to the Changeling and... Wait, was Pola... actually laughing? He was! Did he find it funny? Was it amused? Impressed?
"I'd assume no less that you had your fair share of troubles on this planet, let alone the conflict you've faced for decades and more to come." Daru felt herself heat up in frustration as Pola made a reference to her status as a slave's daughter. Just how much did this creature know? Was it possible that he also knew about their encounter with Gong? It was annoying, knowing that he had more leverage than Daru. She had to be cautious on how she played her cards and not give in to the temper that slowly risen within.
"Of course. My power wouldn't be where it was if I hadn't gone through what I did. I do whatever it takes to climb no where else but up. Including those that are within higher authority and those that view themselves as more capable, if not better than everyone on this planet." Daru stated.
This little exchange was obviously getting heated as Sayah started to wave her hands at Daru. "Daru! Not! The! Time!" She frantically whispered. This woman was going to ruin their chance! Sayah had to do something before the young demon took things to a new level and possibly piss him off to where he might end up killing them!

On the other hand, Pola started to descend towards the two women, specifically leaning towards the young demon. "And was that a threat I sensed?" He asked, almost challenging her to a fight from how his tone simmered down to a menacing tone. Oh hell, Daru's done it now!
"N-No, mister Pola, sir! I assure you, there's no threat being made here!" It was a poor attempt on Sayah's part to diffuse the situation, and she knew it. Still, she could only hope the Changeling heard her plea and step down, expectantly Daru would do the same. Instead, the opposite of what she wanted was nowhere close to the opposite of what she wanted to avoid that was about to happen.
The young demon took one step closer towards the Changeling with a scorned expression on her face. Before Sayah could even think about stopping Daru, her left eye's sclera was completely bright blue as the pupil was replaced with a singular dot with concentric circles surrounding the entire eye. On the same side as her affected eye was black markings that covered her face in a flaming style. Her canines slightly grew and became sharper as she bore them at the Changeling. Pola's position and overall demeanor did not change, but there was something within him that was rather... amused with the "performance" the young demon put up.
"No, that was an invitation you can either accept or spinelessly deny. You may be powerful, if not the strongest on all of Frost, but the measure of someone's power isn't that alone, but what they do with it. You flaunt it as if it were a badge, something used to intimidate. I do not see a powerful being in front of me. All I see is a fool whose power relies on the whispers and rumors among a bunch of grunts you call soldiers that think you're all but a mysterious figure that lurks in the shadows. That's where your true power lies." Sayah's mouth was left open the entire time, unable to move from her spot. All she could do was just... stare in awe. There she was. Daru was actually talking down on Pola himself, the only master on Frost.
The question remained, were they going to fight?
It appeared Daru was about to make the first move as she took a step closer, but what she did conflicted on what Sayah assumed. Instead, the young demon powered down to her base form. Her left eye returned back to normal, the markings were gone, and her canine teeth went back to normal. "And I have no interest in talking to people like you any longer. You've impressed everyone on this planet, but you will never impress me." Those were her last words before she brushed past Pola, intentionally knocking her shoulder against his own as she began to walk away.
No, Daru wasn't going to fight. She had no intentions in fighting in the first place. Sayah couldn't believe what she just witnessed. What the hell even was that?! Quickly, her attention went back to Pola as he closed his eyes, expression unreadable. She couldn't tell if he was upset or... really anything. Maybe there was some way to salvage this situation! ...Or at the very least, try to get him to make the girl his student. "I-I'm so sorry about my friend, mister Pola! I-I don't know what got into her! P-Please excuse her rude behavior!" She exclaimed.
However Pola, for the first time since their initial meeting, broke into a smirk. He faced forward, ignoring Sayah's pleas and looked ahead of him, but his voice called out loud enough for the young demon to pick up. "Yet it would be a real shame if someone of your caliber dare turn down life changing techniques that could inject fear across the cosmos!" He said.

Daru stopped in her tracks as the Changeling called out to her. "Caliber". There was a hint of respect in his tone, especially when he used such a word like "caliber" to describe the young demon's abilities and overall strength. She knew it, just as she expected. The Changeling never had anyone talk back to him or even dare initially challenge him unlike Daru. The very idea that Daru acted as if she doesn't need Pola, or even worse, thought that he was a waste of his time, intrigued him about the young demon. He wasn't used to being challenged due to the raw power he possessed, even if his power was completely suppressed. Especially with the techniques he knew, no one figured to try and knock him off of his egotistical pedestal.
In lieu of talking back, the young demon stood silent. Like Pola, she didn't bother to look back. After what felt like an eternity of letting the silence sit between them, she finally spoke up. "Fear is nothing more than a state of mind. Those that overcome it are resistant to being robbed by the thief of dreams." She spoke. Daru wasn't afraid of anything, though she wasn't immune to what fear can do rather than fear itself. Was she willing to admit it? Absolutely not.
In an instant, Pola appeared right in front of the young demon with his overall position maintained and smirk remaining on his face. Daru's composure was kept, yet Sayah still stood in the same spot, astonished by the interaction that went on. They were trying to size each other up, now there they were, trying to one up another by... speaking in riddles and more eloquent than usual on Daru's part! Now the Changeling managed to, what, teleport in front of the young demon like it was nothing! She didn't even see him move a muscle or even start the process of teleporting! How Daru was still alive was beyond Sayah, but it looked like Pola was somehow impressed!
"I'll admit, there is something unique inside of you. You're far from being similar with any of the soldiers in the faction. You walked away from a golden opportunity anyone else would've snatched up in mere seconds the moment it'd be brought up. I commend you for that." Pola was, in fact, impressed. Daru's plan went accordingly and Pola was able to see it. It wasn't often he was standing in opposition of what he expected versus the reality of what he got, and the young demon managed to surpass his expectations more than he'd like to acknowledge. "That said, I'm more than willing to officially offer you an invitation of my own; to learn from me and utilize the techniques I teach you to your own advantage however you like." He said.
Daru studied Pola's expression, her own still blank. She was successful, she got Pola to want to train the young demon. Her performance could now come to an end, but she wouldn't dare try to smile in victory. It was a checkmate, but she refused to show any sign of happiness or glee. "Very well. In one condition. If you want me as your student, you also take my friend, Sayah, under your wing." She said.
Pola looked back at Sayah as if he saw her for the first time. The girl flinched as it looked like she was finally being included. She gave an awkward smile followed by a wave before the Changeling looked back at Daru. It was apparent that he wanted to refuse, but he decided against his own wishes. "Very well. You both will be my students until I feel content with your progress in the future." He said.
She... no way, Sayah was about to train under Pola along with Daru! She didn't know how the hell the young demon did it, but Daru always had something in her to always get things her way... most of it, if Sayah had to be honest, but her friend always came through with a plan made on the spot, and Sayah was more than grateful to have someone like her in her corner.
