The Earth Defense Force's base was livelier than what Shengyu was used to seeing. It buzzed with activity, officers on their feet and secretaries and people in similar positions dashing back and forth. On the other hand, Shengyu casually strolled around the packed area with her usual hot mocha to start the day warm and fresh. What's gotten everyone so worked up this morning? It's only, what, 9 AM or something? She did find it incredibly strange. There wasn't any major announcement or event that had everyone scrambled. The only solution on her mind was to find the chief, Mira Hotsuki, and see what the fuss was all about. Well, she'd hope that the lovely woman would be in her office. She was sure Mira'd be happy to see a face like Shengyu's.
The woman made her way to Mira's office and gave a light knock. She used her unoccupied hand to reach the knob and twist. She gently pushed the door open and peeked her head in. Within the luxurious office with a lot of room and technology to bring out its polished aesthetic was a woman that sat behind her desk. Her brows were low in deep focus in a stack of papers that were piled all over. Clearly she was concentrating on something, and Shengyu was more than prepared to break that concentration.
"Chief?" Shengyu's voice softly called to the busy woman.
Immediately, Mira's trance was broken from the papers as her head shot up towards the source of the voice. Shengyu flashed a friendly smile and a nod, followed by a nice "Good morning, chief." It was too early for her to try and stir up trouble and the last thing she wanted was to do hours worth of traffic duty. It would've been the worse.
"Shengyu," Mira greeted with a strict tone that was firmer than usual. "You're right on time, I was just about to call for you. Please, come take a seat." She gestured a hand over to the one seat in front of her desk.
Shengyu shot Mira a playful smirk as she took a step inside the office and walked to the chair. "It warms my heart that I managed to have a special place in your heart." She lowered herself down on the seat and crossed a leg over the other and took a sip of her warm, delicious beverage. "I have to ask though, the base's been busier and more active than usual. Unless I slept through some sort of alert or missed an email."
"That's not important for you right now or what I want to talk to you about," Mira immediately dismissed Shengyu's curiosity for the base's sudden spike in activity. "I have something else in mind for you. Something that I think you can handle, given your time in the force." Something Shengyu could handle? This sounded like something that's right up her alley, as vague as the proposition was. For what she knew, it could be fun in her favor.
"You don't say?" The woman took a long sip of her mocha. "Hopefully it's not another traffic duty task or something. I can't tell you how many times people try to fight over a ticket and do dumb-"
Mira rose a hand to cut Shengyu off. "You remember the Silver Warriors, correct?"
Shengyu stopped dead in her tracks. Her eyebrows lowered into a look of concern, almost taken back by the sudden question. Silver Warriors; the notorious gang the woman was apart of for most of her life up until a failed operation that was meant to be led by Shengyu costed the lives of many gang members, all behind the back of their leader for more riches. "...I do." Shengyu's own tone became careful, almost professional when she heard her gang's name. If she were honest, she hadn't thought about them in a while.
Mira nodded in approval and began to shuffle her hands around a few documents and passed them over to Shengyu. "Perfect. Then you remember Apashe." Apashe was the leader of the Silver Warriors, the same man that took Shengyu in and the same man that she betrayed in the process of creating her own heist behind his back. She was surprised that the Silver Warriors were still around, but anything was possible with the money he had.
"Sure." It was the only word Shengyu spoke of while she skimmed through the documents. They were basically territories that they had and took over along with current identified members, Apashe included. The smirk on her lips lowered to a neutral position while she read the papers over. "Can't say they've been on my mind for a while." She added.
Mira leaned in out of interest, carefully eyeing Shengyu. "Really, now?"
"Sure. Apashe was unaware of my plans for a heist, knowing he wouldn't approve of the plan and me trying to aim higher. Most of his men and women at the time were either dead or arrested because of me. Whether or not he managed to found out I was the screw up, like how I thought I was, I wouldn't think he'd be happy to see an old face like mine, especially since he'll see that I've 'sold out' by being with the force to avoid prison time."
Mira was caught off guard with how emotionally detached Shengyu was from the gang. She actually had considerations when it came to deciding who should get this task. Someone who knew the ins and outs of the gang was more than ideal for the job, but Mira was unsure whether or not Shengyu would be willing to go up against a group that took her in when she was at her lowest. She was glad that wasn't the case. "Well, them this should make your job easier."
"And what would be the said job that'd be easier?"
