Somewhere in the wilderness of the eastern continent...
Amaranth sat cross-legged and arms crossed. The sun's heat beat down upon his bare chest, and beads of sweat dotted his entire body. His eyes were jammed shut, as he tried his hardest to focus. Today, he wasn't doing any sort of normal weightlifting or cardio. He was, once again, attempting to image train.
The amount of times that the Earth had been put into danger within the last couple of years alone was shocking. A couple things had become increasingly clear to Amaranth in that time. For one, the lack of fighters that were devoted to protecting this planet was seriously lacking. He wanted to do something about it but, by seeing the type of strength the Saiyan army had, Amaranth had concluded that he wasn't anywhere close to being a fighter yet. He was merely a soldier. An officer. A damn good one, at that, but not a fighter. That being said, over the last couple of months especially, he'd devoted himself to becoming stronger. In that short time he'd unlocked an array of new abilities that he never even knew were possible.
Image training was certainly one that he hadn't gotten down yet. That was fine, for now. Amaranth recognized the usefulness of the technique and he was sure that, with enough training, he would eventually get it down. Which brought him to where he was and what he was doing at this very moment.
Amaranth's grasp on image training was there, but it wasn't at all refined. He could tap into the technique, but he couldn't exactly focus enough to make it entirely effective. Unfortunately, this meant that it was far easier for him to become distracted while doing so. Outside disturbances were a big factor. He'd countered that by finding this quiet and somewhat calming spot, far away from the hustle, bustle, and distractions that came alongside residing in South City. The only true obstacle that he'd encountered in this particular spot...was himself.
In the depths of his mind, Amaranth was surrounded by Red Ribbon Army soldiers. He punched one away. Kicked another away. Blasted another away. The training was going good, for once, but he was starting to grow frustrated.
Cmon...Is this really all my mind has to offer? Weaklings....?
Despite the fact that he knew that, with time, he'd be able to really master and utilize the technique, and be able to picture himself actually fighting a strong foe, it was hard to not get frustrated. Was it time to give up...?
No. Not yet.
Amaranth decided to strain his mind even harder. It was time to see what he was really capable of. After a bit longer, he'd finally been able to imagine someone stronger than that of an average grunt. The opponent before him formed into a very familiar, but at the same time long forgotten face. It was none other...than his father.
Tsk...
Amaranth's mental image of himself scoffed at the sight before him. This damn old man and his actions had come back to haunt him once again? So be it. He charged at his father, aiming a punch right for his face, but was quickly disappointed at the fact that his fist phased straight through the older man's face.
What the hell?
So be it. He would just try again. He jumped back, aiming a ki blast straight for the man. The ki blast hit his father and exploded into a cloud of dust. Amaranth's frown twisted into a grin.
How do you like-
The dust quickly settled to reveal his father still standing there, unfazed.
What the h-
Before Amaranth had time to even get the thought out, his father appeared before him, aiming a kick straight to his chest. The kick held enough power to send Amaranth flying back. He was able to catch himself in the air, but unable to react once again, as his father's image appeared behind him and aimed a chop to his back strong enough to send him hurling back into the ground.
You damn geezer...was this your power...?
Amaranth's father picked him up, holding him by the neck. "If this is all you have...you will never amount to anything. How can you expect to protect an entire planet if you can't even protect yourself?" His father's voice boomed across his mind. At this point, Amaranth was physically wincing in the real world. The sentence echoed across his mind over and over and over...until he broke.
No. Shut your damn mouth!
Amaranth escaped his father's grasp, and began to pummel him into the ground. His attacks were starting to connect, and it seemed as though he was causing his father actual damage. It was at this moment that he decided. He would get stronger. He would become strong enough to protect the planet. Nothing else mattered to him.
Amaranth jumped to his feet. "Argh....." He groaned. There seemed to be a surge of power coursing through him. He'd never felt this powerful. There was something else, though. His eyes...he could see everything. Down to a couple of ants marching across a broken off piece of tree bark a couple of meters away. It was overwhelming.
He covered his right eye. "Is this the true power of a Cerealian...?" He asked. He wasn't sure, but there was something he was certain of. This was only the beginning.
He felt his frown turn into a slight grin once again, as he began to ascend to the air. His journey had truly begun.
