PL: 15,289 (Reduced by 75% due to weights) | Items: Improved Scouter, Super Weighted Clothing | WC: 423 It was still a bit strange walking through West City, what with it technically not even being under complete control of Earth. Though Derrick most certainly invited the PTO to the planet at one point, that was mostly because of his business dealings with Zero, and ever since he got himself eaten by Liari relations between the Snakes and the PTO have slowly devolved as nobody else could really fill in that gap properly. In the end it matters little, since if Kamae's plan were to go as smoothly as he hopes, he'll soon have the authority to drive them out along with any other organizations that plan on impacting the planet in such a way that would interrupt business. Their time will come eventually, but at the current moment he has bigger fish to fry.
In the meantime, Derrick thought it would be best to give a bit of a checkup on some of the businesses that he's strewn about across the city, all acting as fronts for a few of the Dirty Snakes' more... delicate operations. At the current moment the boss was sitting right outside of a cafe aptly named the Serpent's Brew. Perhaps they need to work on that name, but at least the coffee is serviceable enough to put a pep in the boss' step. He takes a nice long side of his black coffee as he looks out at the bustling street in front of him, though that would be interrupted when he starts hearing some shouting from within the cafe. Seeing as he's technically the owner of the establishment like the rest of his chains, the boss gives a low sigh and gets up from his spot on the outside, carrying his coffee with him indoors.
Upon entering the cafe he could see that a fight has broken out as two men are exchanging fists with each other, one mostly aiming for gutshots while the other keeps going for the head. Normally he'd just let this sort of stuff play out until it's natural conclusion, but given the distress of the rest of the customers as many cower in fear or are paralyzed on the spot, it seems like he might need to tone things down in the cafe a bit. But first, he's going to make sure he gets his coffee finished as he stands right near the entry doors, trying to chug through the rest of his coffee.

Kari's PL: 6,989 | Rookie's Bonus Active | Weakened Wealthy
There was only a few things Kari enjoyed more than cafes. She had practically made them her home during her time in college, pulling long all-nighters or meeting up with classmates to work on a dread group project. At the very least, this stayed the same for her even as her after the incident. In fact, the workers seemed even nicer than they had before, something that irked her although she said nothing about it. Whatever, as long as she got her latte, that was all that had mattered. She had been sitting by the window, casually browsing on the laptop she had brought with her when the fight broke out. Two men, both hardy looking suddenly decided it was a great idea to start a gang fight unprompted. While Kari had heard of the rumors of something like this happening in the Serpent's Brew, never had she thought that it would be something she would experience herself. It was something that happened overnight, not in broad daylight. As such, she was completely caught off guard when one of these giant men had crashed into her table, damaging her crappy laptop. To further rub salt in the wound, a couple bullets were shot towards her direction, piercing and finishing off her device. Honestly, Kari should be more worried about the fight that had happened. Here she was, directly in the line of fire and unable to easily move her own butt out of harm's way. But her laptop! She had spent all of high school saving up for this piece of crap! She didn't even have enough money to even consider a replacement. Right now, she was shaking, eyes glaring at the two grown men fighting in the middle of the cafe. Even if she didn't want to get involved in whatever the hell this was, she had to take this frustration out somehow. Her body moved instinctively, almost on muscle memory. It really was true that some things never changed. Even if it had been months since she had last used magic, it came to her with ease. With the sun still up, that meant there were plenty of shadows around the room ripe for the taking. Unbeknownst to fighters, the shadows at their feet began to shift as she took control. A shadowy hand morphed, grabbing at the ankles of the two fighters. Kari knew what she was getting into at the very least. With a quick flick of her wrist, they were hung upside down, flailing at the sudden magic. It was then when Kari realized what she had done. Shoot. One of her least favorite aspects of playing the hero was the attention that would come with it. Confrontation was always terrifying, and considering she was literally the only one in the room that wasn't cowering or running out it was pretty indicative of who did this. Although she kept the shadowy hand up, she would awkwardly begin to gather the remnants of her broken laptop and wheel her way out, hoping everyone was still caught up by this fight to notice.

WC: 474 | TWC: 897 Though Derrick was most certainly enjoying the fight, it clearly had started to overstay its welcome as the two men started to crash into other patron's spots, spilling coffee, sending breakfast flying about and breaking anything else that lied on the table. He started to go through his coffee faster until he hears the gunshots come out, immediately forcing him to lower his mug and look at just how absolutely insane these people were. What the hell were these two fighting about? It didn't matter much anymore as the ongoing fight was escalating, and with all of the gunshots going around it's going to tank the Serpent's Brew's popularity, and despite the business really existing just to act as a front, it was still nice to keep the extra cash rolling in.
Derrick places the mug down on the waiting table and stomps his way over to where the two bastards are going at it with each other when he notices that there was something grabbing hold of their legs until they suddenly flew upwards a bit, now hanging upside down and suspended in the air. Immediately Derrick knew that there was some powerful magic caster, or something like that, around this cafe, and it didn't exactly take him long to figure out just who that is as everybody was still either trying to run out of the business or panicking in the corners of theirs seats... Except for one. Over by one of the window tables lies a young lady, picking up what appears to be the remains of a laptop she once possessed, one of the people whose stuff was pretty much ruined by the two knuckleheads, still hanging upside down.
The boss steps forward and announces to everybody in the room, "Well, now that that's been taken care of, we can get back to business as usual. I'll take care of these two numbskulls everybody. Coffee and breakfast sandwiches are fifty percent off for the rest of the morning. Come to me if something of yours had been broken, I'll see if I can get it replaced," and as he says that part, he eyes the lady who might've stopped the crooks, still gathering shards of her remaining laptop before turning to the rest of the crowd and finishing, "I apologize for what you had to witness today. Please enjoy your food and drink." Derrick makes his way over to the two still floating fighters, shadowy grasps still on them as he shifts his body around to pretend that he's trying to get the shadows to let them go, all while looking eyeing the young lady in the corner of his eye, waiting for when she would eventually put them down. He'd keep them up for a few more hours himself, but he has a business to manage.

Kari wasn't entirely sure what was going on to be honest. After she had managed to break up the fight with the two gangster, some man in relatively fancy attire showed up and announced that he was taking care of everything. At the very least everything was discounted, even though it really didn't make up for the fact that she had lost her laptop in the process. Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that the fact that she could easily be discovered was in the forefront of her mind, she would have worried about that a lot more. Thankfully though, the man had offered to help get her stuff replaced if it was broken. It was a nice gesture to say the least, but who was this person anyways? Still, the fact that she needed a replacement for her laptop was quite a pressing issue that she needed solved. Although granted, she was still a bit hesitant on going up to ask about that even if he had so graciously offered such compensation. It especially did not help that part of her strength was focused on keeping the two gangsters restrained. She dared not to let them go. What if by doing so they managed to escape and cause more ruckus? Wait... Now that she was focusing on it, this man was seriously powerful. Far more than most of the patrons in here. Far more than she was herself. Oh, fun. This was fine. He seemed nice, but even still she trouble forcing her body to actually move. Finally, she had forced her stiff arms to push against the wheels of her chair when she had gathered the remnants of her laptop onto her lap. As she moved passed the hanging gangsters, she shot them a side eye. At the very least it didn't seem like they knew it was her quite yet. They were still flailing around upside down, shouting obscenities. It wasn't a pretty sight to say the least, but far better than the chaos that had broke out only a few moments prior. "Um excuse me," Kari said as she began to approach the man. It was a little difficult considering all the furniture tossed in the way. Other patrons who were equally affected by her predicament swarmed to get their broken items replaced. Compared to the rest of the angry customers, she seemed to blend in to the background, or so she thought. Yeah, she could wait. It wasn't as if she had anything important to do either. Little did she know, that despite being hung upside down, one of the gangsters was still holding a gun. As incapacitated as he was, there was no way he was going down anytime soon. He would point a gun at her head seeing as she was the closest, unbeknownst to Kari who was still occupied with her attempts to get the man's attention.

WC: 391 | TWC: 1,288 As Derrick was still messing around with the two floating gangsters and every other patron has either decided to take their leave or go up and try to get themselves some discounted food and drink, one lone person came up to the boss. As he had anticipated, it was that same lady, now making her way towards him in a wheelchair. How interesting that despite such a disability she possesses quite the power indeed. He'll certainly have to keep her in the back of his mind, whoever she is.
She speaks up, likely to ask about some of her damaged property from earlier. He turns to face her and asks, "Ah, hello there. I noticed that your table was especially impacted by that fight. I apologize for the... Oh my." He looks down at the broken laptop pieces, knowing that it's going to cost him a pretty penny to get it replaced, his own frustration boiling up a bit at these two buffoons who thought it would be a good idea to just... Wait, was one of them holding a gun still?
His eyes shoot to look directly at the weapon being pointed at the back of the stranger's head, and immediately the boss had to spring into action. In a near instant he disappears from the lady's sight as he reappears behind her and next to the shooter, his hand grabbing hold and squeezing the man's wrist to the point where he was groaning from the sudden pain, as if someone was using a vice grip on it. The boss raises his arm up into the air before Derrick raises his elbow and brings it down right onto his forearm, a crack echoing across the room as the man screams in pain. Well, that was one way to get his frustrations out. The gun is dropped to the floor, and he immediately swipes it for himself, taking the magazine out and pulling the slide back to empty the weapon.
As he's checking the two to see if they had anything else on them, he glances over at the young lady and asks, "You'll have to give me a minute with this. Can you make sure the police are on their way? I want to make sure these two get out of here as soon as possible."

Thank goodness. It didn't actually take much prompting for him to take notice of her. As relieved as she was though, there was another part of her that was a bit jumpy on this knowledge. Did he know about her? If so, would he comment anything in regards to her power? Despite possessing abilities like this Kari really didn't like it when anyone else commented on them. It was uncomfortable, and speaking about them was just going to make things more awkward than necessary. For now, she tried her best externally to hide this discomfort and straighten herself up to speak about her laptop. "I'm sorry, but would you be able to replace this for me? It's fine if you can't get anything new, I got this when I was eight and I don't really need anything better than this." She began. That was a lie, but she didn't want to inconvenience him with something like expensive gear. Yet before she can continue, the man suddenly disappeared. Kari was only able to track where he went, utilizing her energy sense to follow the sudden flit of energy behind her as she finally realized what was happening. One moment, she was staring down the barrel of a gun, and the next moment the man had a grip on his wrist which forced him to release. And next. It was the crack of bones that had caused her blood to grow cold. Even though that evening wasn't the first time she had heard the same sound, the difference was that she knew the sensation that came with such a terrible echo. One that played in her nightmares every night. Kari barely could process what the man had said. Her heartbeat was beginning to drown out her ears. From the outside, her eyes glossed over, she had bent over with a hand on her chest as if to steady herself. Her breaths were short and quick, and she was completely disconnected from the outside world. An intense sense of nausea had taken over her body, even as she quickly averted her gaze from the scene. That was all she could focus on. Even her broken laptop quickly became secondary. All that she could think of was the terrible sound. Could she ever escape it?

WC: 406 | TWC: 1,694 Derrick could almost immediately tell that the young lady was quite uncomfortable with the whole situation, which was a given considering what she's already been through for the past few minutes. She prepares herself and mentions to the boss that she would like for the laptop to be replaced and that she first received the piece back in her childhood. He gives her a small smile before mentioning, "Aw, well that's unfortunate. Well, I can certainly see if I can hook you up with a similar model, or hell, an even better one. Money ain't exactly a very big issue for me, let me tell ya. Can't do much about the stuff saved there, though. You wouldn't happen to have the hard drive intact, do you?" Derrick wasn't exactly a computer expert, as he typically just let that sort of stuff be handled by the other more tech savvy Dirty Snakes, but he at least kind of knows some of the inner workings, or at least, he likes to think that.
Unfortunately before he could inquire anything else, the gunman still hanging tried aiming his weapon at the stranger, and the owner had to take care of that major issue in the blink of an eye. As Derrick took care of the gun and looks back over to the young lady to request her to call the cops, he realizes that something was very wrong at the current moment, making him realize what he had done. The average person wasn't quite used to seeing such feats of strength and speed, and even fewer would be exposed to the brutality behind the breaking of one's limbs. Of course he did it to come to the defense of the stranger, but the lean, pressing one's hand over their chest... He's seen this before, plenty of times in the back of alleyways when he's finished his less than savory business with some unruly crooks, but this time it's quite serious.
"Hey there, are you doing alright?" He asks, bending down onto his knee, "Hey, listen. Everything's alright now. Gun's empty and away from the two dunderheads. I just need you to to breathe in and out... Slowly." He thinks for a moment on how to try to get her to focus before asking, "You know, give me a count for each breathe you take. Give yourself something to take your mind off of it, alright?"
