A clear blew sky stretched the horizon above as a soft autumn wind blew through the tranquil bamboo forest. The noticeable animals that scurried the land were far and few between as many made preparations for the nearing winter season. Amidst the gaps of trees should one have found themselves traveling this otherwise peaceful array of foliage, one would stumble upon an initially interesting sight; not merely because of the visage of what they would see, but because of the activity as well. A lone girl, in a rather bright blue attire; adorned with cat ears upon her head and rather grandiose wings upon her back. The girl stood, silent and motionless with her right arm outstretched before her; eyes closed, she had remained like this for several long minutes in deep focus and concentration. Rhapsody thought back to her village, to the day she left and began her travels. She thought back to her encounter with the bear spirit and tried to remember the feelings she had; the adrenaline, the desperation. Her father was in danger, her village was under threat; her heart raced, innocent animals were left to the mercy of a spirit blinded by vengeance, and then it happened... Before her hand as she remembered the encounter, a light would begin to flicker; Rhapsody could feel the magic within her crying to break free. Her thoughts would transition to her encounter with the dubious Traders who had captured her and Sorallay; she would remember her attempts to escape the cell she'd been tossed into with Vocalo, and the mysterious weapon that came to her in her moment of need. The light before her hand would dim, before brightening back up and flickering once again. Both situations had been the same, a mysterious power she'd only recently acquired, and a magic to undo any lock before her. It had responded to a need, not a want; the issue now was, she hadn't any need for it. There was no threat, nor any lock that needed opening; with the realization in mind, the light would begin to dim once more, until she would recall another fact... a name. There was a name, it had spoken to her and responded when called; if there wasn't a need, then she would make one, and with the need of her creation, she would call its name. "Keyblade." Rhapsody would say softly as she opened her eyes and focused on her manufactured need. She didn't merely WANT to see this weapon, to return it to her hand and do something as trivial as admire it; she NEEDED to see this weapon, to learn of its power, to train, and to master it. So many in the lands she traveled suffered, and she hadn't the strength to protect those she cared about; had she been faster, stronger, more efficient, then she believed her father would still be living his life as he always had. Instead, her failures and shortcomings had seen him trapped in an eternal slumber upon his bed; now however, it wasn't just him she found herself wanting to protect, but the many who she'd begun to meet and establish friendly relations with. She needed to master the power of this mysterious key, she needed it's power to protect those she cared about, and with this need in mind, it would finally answer her call. In a blinding flash of light, the Keyblade would appear before Rhapsody; her hand instinctively clutching the grip of its handle without hesitation. It was the first time she'd summoned the weapon without being in a stress inducing situation, so it was only now that she'd finally had the time to stop and examine the keyblade in full detail. Ironically blade-less in spite of the name it spoke to her, something that she had noticed before; and with an intricate design upon the end of the shaft that reminded her of a crown. It's colors were simple, and the metal of the blade felt soft and cool to the touch. It was a rather large weapon, and felt decidedly unwieldy as it was nearly half her size in length; though considering her short stature of only five feet and rather modest build, most things seemed rather large to her. Rhapsody would laugh a bit as she finished her minor analyses of the weapon; in spite of it's size, if was incredibly light, and had already proven it was strong enough to block and counter the attacks of the vengeful bear spirit. Knowing this, Rhapsody knew there was only one path before her now. "Time to train!" She'd exclaim as she held the weapon before her enthusiastically; striking a 'knightly' pose as she aimed the blade skyward. First a vertical swing, then a horizontal swing, followed be a diagonal swing from the upper left to the lower right. The motions would repeat, with the added flare of a jump or a spin; battle cries would accompany the 'attacks' and to any watching, it would be made apparent rather quickly that the girl had no idea what she was doing. Rhapsody was no swordsman, and her 'training' appeared likely as nothing more than a child playing with a toy in the woods. As untrained as she was however, she had no idea herself as to the ridiculousness of her actions nor of her lacking ability; while her wild swings amounted to little in the way of training, she still performed with confidence and conviction, wholehearted believing she was training herself in the way of swordsmanship. The sands of time yet echoed in his mind. They were feeble and somehow they still managed to drive him around in a state of mind that he could not quite describe, bright and endless stars above him that seemed to be the ones to drag him around for he followed them and their endless rotations. When he did so, he would keep seeing these grains ahead of him. Each one of them was orange and yet tinted with a fragment of memory, almost as if each one of them was in truth a crystal that yearned for the man’s attention.
If he was to carefully look inside those crystals, he could almost see them. No, he did look inside one rather, and when he did his entire view turned orange. A voice in the back of his mind felt a sense of familiarity with the scene, this endless void that he had roamed before, and behind him a village. That was what he expected, at least. He thought he would see what were those nostalgic sights, those humble faces and people that worked together in a community where even an orphan could feel welcome and loved for, but when he turned, he witnessed something else.
Fire. Oh, how beautiful it was. It was a beautiful shade of orange, one that simply made you stare at it for no reason at all. How vast and how far it extended to the reaches of his vision, it was boundless. But why did he not feel any warmth at all? No, it was not just that. Rather he felt cold, why was it so cold? Something wrapped him with an endless breeze, it made him feel like he could nearly freeze into a popsicle right where he was standing.
He realized why soon enough. From fire, emerged smoke and once the smoke passed, the flames began to twist and turn, until he could catch a glimpse of what hid behind them; corpses. Men, women and children that had resisted up to their very last not to suffer a worse fate, and the look of desperation over their faces did not deserve a single word. He was speechless. When he tried to reach out, he was wrapped by the flames.
They were consuming him, to the point where he could no longer even see his hands, they were gone in the depths of the flame’s lowest point and turned into ashes. Fear emerged, what would happen next? A sense of anxiety began to overwhelm him, until a voice suddenly hit him.
“Heed…”
Something snapped right at that moment. A voice he could not recognize or even hear for the matter and yet he knew that he had heard those very words just a moment now, but even that would become ephemeral not a moment later when his eyes were now open, and his sleep had also gone with the ashes. Such a disgrace earned a sigh from Nasu, yet once more he could not sleep one full night without having to deal with some awkward stuff. To be honest, when was the last time he managed to have a sound sleep session to himself?
Never, most likely. There was no end to how annoying this was, but even more was the fact that he could hardly remember anything much from what he saw in his sleep. In a way he knew what the whole deal about it was, but in another way he felt like he could not progress any further with his problem and that he was stuck against a wall.
Speaking of which, he was actually stuck to something. It was no wall but he could recognize it almost immediately, he had decided to take a nap within the forest earlier. By now his senses were finally waking up and he could see the absurd amount of grass, leaves and bushes all around. Not to mention the tree that he laid against in his sleep, it was a fine time here. While he did not wake up out of his best intentions, he could still enjoy the vibe all of this was giving him currently. It was sweet and tender in a way, to be in the middle of nature without the slightest distraction or need to really focus on anything.
That was until he heard a voice. Could she be, no, there was no way. She did not sound like what he believed were the words spoken to him in his mind, and yet there was a strange event that first occurred for Nasu; he could not sense anyone. Just how strange this was he was at a loss for words, something like this never happened to him and now he was here, wondering if he had not just gone insane and hearing things.
He pushed himself up to his feet, he did not need to spend much energy to find the source of all these noises, in the middle of nowhere, on flat ground he found another person. She was curious, however. Not that Nasu was a regular person, but she was definitely not an average citizen, from what he had witnessed during his time in the city. She did not look normal, and even that very blade she wielded had him grasp at his mind for clues. How did it work? What was it?
“You are doing a good job there. You will need a lot of muscle memory to pull more advanced moves in the future.”
The man did not hesitate much to approach her, she did not seem like an aggressive individual at first glance. Besides, Nasu felt more than confident in having to deal with just anyone the way he was currently, even if he could not feel her energy. He stepped inside the vast and flat area, and she would bear witness to a tall man, his dark locks flowed freely against the breeze, dressed and clad in black, gray and white, with golden and crimson boots, and a strange golden emblem on his shirt.
“I take it you are a beginner, though. That is fine, we all start somewhere. But I have never seen anything like that, what is it called?”
He spoke like he had experience, and perhaps she could see that from the very weapon strapped upon his back and yet, that too was not just any blade; for it was far too big to be called a sword, at first sight.
“Sorry. I should introduce myself first. That sword of yours threw me off balance. I am Nasu, and you are?””

A playful air would envelop Rhapsody as she swung her blade about, clearly enjoying herself more than one simply training would normally. The experience felt unique and exciting to her; while she had read books which included swordsman in its pages before, she had never seen, let alone ever held a true weapon in her hands before. The village elders forbade the use of weapons within the village; only those who took the role of village guards were permitted a device for self defense, but even those weapons equated to no more than a fortified bo staff. As such, Rhapsody could help but to enjoy the feeling of being a swordsman; it was like being a child and playing with Aiden, however the purpose now was less for the fun of it, and more centered around the idea of protecting others. As she continued to swing her weapon about, a shift in the air would catch her attention as the trees began to whisper incoherently. Rhapsody's ears would twitch as she heard the sound of steps upon grass, causing her to ceases her swinging as a voice spoke out; taking a deep breath, she would give a slight sigh of relief upon realizing how exhausted she was becoming with her simple swinging of her blade. So caught up in the moment as she had been, she hadn't taken notice of her slight accumulating sweat or shaking of her forearm muscles; the weapon she held wasn't heavy in the least, so she was curious as to how she could have become so worn out. Rather than wait around questioning the reason however, she would turn to meet her guest, her eyes widening as her neck craned up slightly to fully taken in the absolutely towering figure before her. "Woah..." Rhapsody would say softly beneath her breath as the man spoke of her swordsmanship ability before quickly introducing himself, "Oh, I'm..." She would mutter for a moment, entranced by the mans height that could give Aiden's a run for his zeni; realizing her improper demeanor, Rhapsody would blink and give a minor shake of her head to snap herself out of her trance and introduce herself properly, "Ah! My apologies!" She would begin, giving Nasu a small curtsy; though the attempt was somewhat awkward as the hand which held her blade failed to grab at her dress properly, "My name is Rhapsody, it's a pleasure to meet you!" She'd say happily, looking up towards the man with a smile. The man was certainly larger than Vocalo, not only in height but in musculature; as Rhapsody examined him briefly, she found her eyes quickly drawn to the weapon upon his back. While shaped like a sword, it looked far larger than Rhapsody herself, she felt like it would have been utterly impossible to lift such a weapon and yet the man walked around with it upon his back with ease. An excitement began to build within her as she realized Nasu's initial words addressing her swordsmanship once more, leading her to believe she had just been happened upon by an actual, real life swordsman! "Oh yes! You asked about my blade here?" Rhapsody would ask casually as she held her weapon out before her, realizing she had nearly become too distracted and hadn't yet responded to the mans initial remarks, "It told me that it was called a Keyblade!" She'd answer, "It's quite light as well! Though... I don't know why it would call itself such a thing when it doesn't even have a blade upon its edge." She'd query with a laugh as she looked over her weapon with a fondness in her eyes before looking back towards Nasu, "Hehe, and it's a bit embarrassing to admit, but yes, I am very a beginner." She'd continue with a slight blush, "But I'm practicing so that I might protect others!" She'd exclaim confidently, "In fact, my Keyblade only seems to answer my call if I hold such an intention. I truly do not understand why, but I hold no issue with its intent." She'd explain as she ran her fingertips across the weapon. Her ears would perk up as she came to the realization of her rambling; she was still learning about the mysterious weapon she held herself, so she could understand the mans curiosity. It wasn't as though he had asked for her life story or anything however, but she was simply to comfortable with being open with information for her own good. She would clear her throat and attempt to change the topic, after all, she herself was curious about the mysterious man before her as well. "Pardon my rambling, I've not had the chance to converse with an actual swordsman before!" Rhapsody would admit, her eyes being drawn to Nasu's blade upon his back once again before shifting back to him, "I must say, you are quite large!" She'd say enthusiastically, "Much larger than any within my village I think! Are all swordsman as large as you are?" She would ask as her tail swayed happily beneath her dress, "Oh! You are a swordsman, yes? I apologize if I made an incorrect assumption! Does your sword perhaps also have a name?" She'd finish with a wide eyed, curious expression, now finding herself engrossed in the situation; if the man were truly a swordsman, then she couldn't help but to be interested! Something struck Nasu the most when he took note of the stranger in the woods and true, while there was a sense of curiosity that piqued his interest because of her extravagance there was something else that was ticking the strings of his mind and it was something on a whole other level, nearly metaphysical perhaps. The very swings that she delivered were indeed not a veteran’s or whatever other level she was at, but there was something else behind them. He could not describe it as either joy or happiness for he could not read her well, however he could somewhat tell there was a positive vibe behind each of her attempts with that sword.
It felt nice, honestly. It gave off nostalgia from each and every corner of that moment, nearly enough that Nasu could feel himself travel across space and time upon another layer of reality that existed many years prior to this encounter, back when the headstrong child insisted on training together with the others. He did not have to, he was not meant to rather, for they all promised they would take care of him and not allow him to raise a finger and yet the boiling soul of a warrior was already exhaling steam from each and every intent in the child’s actions.
He knew what he wanted to do already and thus he continued to simulate what he was seeing from others. He had seen many of them do the same movement repeatedly, time and time again for hours and days and he continued to do as well. Of course there was no end to how many times he nearly dropped dead or perhaps to how many times the sword slipped out of his grasp, or when he could not even lift it. Echoes of an endearing voice scolding the boy for not choosing a sword his size still remained in his mind to this day.
In a few words she reminded him of the way he used to be. Not that he was any different or that he strayed off his path but it was almost like seeing himself into a mirror that led straight into the past, a window into one’s memories and it was honestly kind of entertaining. Each struggle felt and surpassed through training felt meaningful, and that it could still lead him far. Nasu knew that he could still grow stronger.
But perhaps it was not just about yourself growing more powerful.
“Hmm?”
He mused shortly when she looked to be somewhat astonished. His eyes widened in response and just tried to kind of tell what was going through her mind, the idea of his constitution and body type being something else did not cross his thoughts, therefore he was also left somewhat confused at first. But he guessed he could tell that she was definitely an okay person, or well at least she appeared genuine.
“Why, you should not apologize for no reason.”
His head nodded in return to her formal greeting, he did excuse her failing at it especially because she was training, and because he did not really care for formalities. He accepted them nevertheless, it was something new. While she was left to examine him, he did pretty much the same. In style he was still quite different when it came to attire, but the weapon itself was indeed interesting. The hilt and handle was definitely worth a sword but of course, much like she pointed out, there was no blade.
“Keyblade, you say. It does look like a key, so I can definitely see that. But you are telling me that it speaks to you?”
When he spoke, if she paid any heed, she could tell there was not a hint of disbelief in his voice and rather his eyes simply were gazing in marvel at this occasion. He had never heard of anything like this, but either he was too naive or he knew nothing of the world. He knew there was magic and the like but never would he have thought of a sword that could harbor words, or perhaps even intent. If this one blade really spoke in the name of good and protecting, it had to be a good thing and it was in the hands of someone good.
Of course he did not know this individual at all, but there was definitely something that he could tell meant well, the blush at the hint of her intent, to him at least it was a signal that it was more of an aspiration than a current duty. Not that he had much experience in that regard himself, but more and more he could see a younger version of himself ahead of him; one that really wanted to help others out not for the very achievement but because back when he needed a savior the most, there was nearly none to spare him the sightings he took one tragic day.
He barely knew this one’s name but if anything her desire to do good transpired and he had felt the vibe, therefore it prompted him to offer a hand.
“No, you excuse me. I must have asked too quickly about your weapon. I could just tell that it was something out of this world, at least from my own experience.”
Nasu found himself smiling a bit at both her assumption, and the comment that came right after. Yeah, he was big but he did not think much of it usually. Now that he thought about it, maybe he figured out why she was quite shocked earlier.
“I am a swordsman but I fear size is not exactly an attribute of any swordsman. It is more like something you play around with, in a way it can impact the way you will be fighting; from the type of sword you will use to the style and techniques. It is true that your Keyblade has no blade, thus it makes for an interesting kind of weapon. Perhaps you could use it as a hybrid between a staff and a sword, but from what little I could spy, you are still a little short on your path to worry about what kind of moves you will be using.”
While he absolutely appreciated the youthful spirit behind her training, he could point out a thing or two about it. There was of course no need for him to school her but given the chance that she would listen, he would be happy if she heard him out and at least tried to do so.
“Your sword may very well be light but you will grow tired if you make unnatural movements, even if you are just doing simple swings. That is because you are stretching your muscles nevertheless, in this phase of your training you should try to perform short strikes until you get used to swinging a sword. Once you reach a certain level of muscle memory and dexterity with your blade, you can then expand your repertoire.”
One hand gripped the hilt of his weapon and slowly he rose it, and twisted his wrist to guide the blade upwards, up in the heavens, until he finally allowed it to descend and while he did hold back its movement, the moment it approached his waist, the very grass between them danced and split apart from the very latent force of the sword. With one other hand, he also held the hilt and tilted it shortly up, running straight ahead of him while his legs spread to welcome the hilt closer to his stomach. It was a classic sword stance, and yet it looked totally different just from the sheer size of the sword.
“Meet Shadowbreaker, a gift from an old friend before we parted ways. According to my friend’s words it would be my light when crossing the darkness. Of course, my friend was a little too dramatic but I can not deny his craftsmanship being something else.”
A closer look and no veins were under pressure around his wrists, while there were no doubts about Nasu’s power still being in its youth, he was confident and experienced enough with his sword to the point that he could bear its weight with ease.
“Since you are a beginner and you are so fiercely training, maybe I can help you out. What do you say?”

Listening to Nasu question the what Rhapsody had mentioned about her weapons speaking, she could tell he at least didn't seem to consider her a liar. Strangely however, Rhapsody could have sworn she felt a tinge of sadness in his question; she wasn't like to make such assumptions however, and the man was quick to form an apology of his own upon coming to the conclusion that he was being too forward. Still, the initial question did make Rhapsody wonder if it wasn't a normal circumstance for ones weapon to speak to them. The bo staves the village guards were allowed certainly didn't speak to them, so perhaps things weren't as simple as she initially believed. Then came the matter of the weapons very existence however; while it didn't do so often, not only did it speak its name and intent to her, but appeared from seemingly nothing. Rhapsody began to realize she hadn't placed much curiosity in the origin of the weapon, she was content simply to have it in the first place. Lacking such understanding in her weapon however, she worried about the efficiency of whatever training she might have performed. To know thy weapon is to know thy self... or something along those lines; something in one of the many books she'd read mentioned having an understanding of ones weapon and making it an extension of yourself, but Rhapsody knew almost nothing about her weapon. Nasu's next statement would compound her concern as he explained his observations, something which clarified to Rhapsody an issue she hadn't considered. "Short strikes?" Rhapsody would question softly with an enthusiastic curiosity as he stepped back and tried to emulate what she believed a short strike to be; bring her blade above her head with both and and swinging it down swiftly before her. It felt fun, but thinking on the words themselves, she wasn't too certain that what she was attempting was actually what Nasu had in mind. At the very least, the man had confirmed himself to be a swordsman, and Rhapsody couldn't help but to feel a tinge of hyperness pulling at her chest at the excitement of meeting a true swordsman. Aiden's going to be so jealous! She would think to herself with a wide smile as she listened intently to Nasu's explanation. Her excitement would only be further amplified as the man reached his hand overhead to grip the hilt of his blade. Rhapsody's eyes would widen with excitement, nearly sparkling as the man drew his sword high above his head in a grandiose display. He would bring the blade down with incredible speed and control, and yet with such effortless restraint as to stop the blade just shy of hitting the ground. Rhapsody could hear the grass that surrounded the two remark vaguely on the sudden wind, and couldn't help but to giggle a bit. As Nasu brought his second hand to the hilt of his weapon and adjust his stance, Rhapsody felt the urge to emulate the swordsman; before she could however, Nasu would introduce the weapon as a gift bestowed upon him, Shadowbreaker. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Shadowbreaker!" Rhapsody would remark happily, completely unaware on if the weapon was akin to her own and had spoken its name to either Nasu or his friend, "You are quite the impressive weapon! So large, and you look quite powerful! I expect you have protected Nasu well." She'd remark enthusiastically before looking back toward her own weapon with a smile; feeling her building excitement, Rhapsody would quickly bring her Keyblade close into an embrace, internally thanking it for the help it'd given her thus far before quickly returning her attention back to Nasu. "Can we!?" Rhapsody would exclaim excitedly as her ears perked up immediately upon hearing Nasu's offer; the girl would nearly stumble over her words as she continued to speak, "Oh yes! Yes please, I would very much like that!!" She'd continue as her tail swayed excitedly beneath her dress, ruffling the fabric slightly, "To train with a real swordsman, it feels like something out of a story!" She'd remark as she quickly shuffled about in place before quickly adjusting her stance in an attempt to match Nasu's. Gripping both hands upon the hilt of her keyblade, there seemed to be plenty of room to utilize the weapon as such even if it were unnecessary. Though while she would widen her stance, her footing would leave her incredibly off balance. She would also find the placement of her blade awkwardly positioned, leaving her elbows locked straight and her body mostly exposed with openings. Still she brimmed with excitement and enthusiasm, looking forward greatly to what Nasu was willing to bestow upon her as training. "Are we to clash blades?" Rhapsody would question as her brow furrowed almost mischievously, "I've seen pictures of knights in training striking each others swords!" She'd state confidently as she noted a scene from one of her story books, unaware of the many inaccuracies such forms of literature usually contained, "Oh! But Shadowbreaker is so large, will my Keyblade be okay enduring such a clash?" She would finish with a worried remark over her weapons safety; it had managed to hold off the assault of a bears claws, but she'd never clashed her keyblade with another sword before. It was true that thinking of a weapon speaking was a little hard to believe but Nasu did not necessarily blame her for even saying so, there was plenty out there that he did not know about. Frankly if somebody told him their weapon spoke to them, he could believe it without too much hesitation. He did not feel like he knew all the laws of this reality, there was so much he did not likely know about and that he could not even begin to fathom. But that was no excuse for him to just believe everything anyone told him, of course, so he just took everything with a grain of salt.
Even the fact that the weapon had some kind of good intent could honestly come down to magic. He did not know anything about that aspect of life but he believed he could see that as a possibility, and that itself was honestly intriguing. In twenty eight years he had likely seen a lot of different things, probably even magic at one point but it was just an unexplored area of his life that it was nearly a legend for him. Something that he did not need to worry about, of course unless he was to suddenly face someone powerful in that department.
“Short strikes, yes. Let us think of it like unarmed combat. When you compare the two, of course you would think they are two different things but in truth they are actually very similar. Your sword is nothing more than an extension of yourself, so you must guide it the same way a martial artist would guide their fists, of course you can not just swing at someone and hope it would hit in the same way. But when you are untrained, you are going to have a hard time to perform long ranged swings, so it is best you start by training your stamina by using the least amount of strength and energy for each strike. You should try not to punch too much into your swing, make it short and quick just to hit your opponent where it hurts and that is it. Rinse and repeat until you get the pace, and then you can try harder strikes.”
Of course he could not just tell Rhapsody to try the hardest thing she could think of, right away. Swordsmanship took years of practice and work, but he did not believe much into the theory and studying part, instead he believed that experience was the most powerful method to become better at any of it. If she was to get better and if she really wanted to, then she would have to fight as much as possible using her Keyblade. Of course, when he pulled down his own sword in that stance, it was also an invite for her to strike, one that he reminded her of formally and vocally shortly after.
He would not say there was some kind of etiquette where swordsmen would have to fight if both drew their weapons but it was kind of obvious they were not just going to show their weapons off and then do nothing. Nasu himself hardly showed it off unless he was going to fight someone.
But across all he faced, this was the first time someone spoke to his sword. In all these years, this was definitely new. There were people that were of course obsessed with swords in the same way one was with their car but he was pretty sure he did not expect anyone actually talking to them. Was it some kind of ability she had or was she just younger than what he expected? It could be, but either way, it did not really bother him that she would speak with weapons, it did confuse him however.
“Y-yeah, it did. It has been a godsend. But a weapon will only be as useful as its wielder, so you better train hard.”
That being said, she was definitely excited to spar but before he could even begin, she asked a curious question. Were swords meant to clash? He knew what she was talking about, nearly anything one could look up about swords and the like usually had exaggerated material of dramatic battles. Of course clashes did happen but they were quite rare.
“Clashes do happen but they are also quite short. When two swords clash, it is about pacing around your opponent first and landing a hit or backing away to dodge if they are faster than you. In a way, it is nowhere like in those pictures or films you saw. But your sword would not necessarily break if it clashed with mine, if you wish to play it safe, always clash with the part of the blade closest to the hilt. It will be sturdier to break. While if you get to learn how to use your energy, you could even imbue the sword with your aura and make it stronger, literally make it an extension of yourself. Of course that still will not do much if you face an opponent more powerful than you are.”
In a way it was not much different from martial arts indeed. Of course he believed swordsmanship could potentially be even more dangerous given the presence of a weapon, if it was used well it could do a lot more than just a punch in the face. Except he also knew how effective a punch could be in the right situations, he was not only a swordsman but a warrior first and foremost and believed one could use nearly every limb in a fight to their advantage.
There was definitely a lot more to it, but it would probably be a little overwhelming introducing everything to Rhapsody all at once, therefore he believed it was best to just begin from the basics. If she could not swing her sword efficiently, there was little use in worrying about clashes and whatever else. Therefore once more Nasu beckoned with his head, feeling quite confident that he could take on a starter from the young lady and prepared himself with a tight grip on his hilt.
“Come on, show me how your opener.”

Rhapsody had been happy to hear of Shadowbreakers efforts in protecting Nasu; still new to the use of weapons as she was, she hadn't a clue about the bond shared between individuals and the weapons they used. this was assuming there was even a bond at all for others, and that it wasn't simply a unique aspect granted by magic for Rhapsody herself. Regardless, she knew that without her Keyblade she'd have likely died in her past encounter with the vengeful bear spirit, so simply hearing Nasu express his appreciation for his blade spoke volumes. This helped Rhapsody to feel even more appreciative for her weapon, and gave her an even boost of inspiration to work harder in her training. Once he had expressed his thoughts on his weapon and gave his words of concern for improving ones own ability, Nasu would then follow up with an instruction for the training they would have. His explanation was a bit of an eye opener, if not also just the tad bit confusing. He mentioned a foreign term to Rhapsody's ears, something along the lines of 'films', but with how he continued his explanation Rhapsody didn't feel the need to question the term. Pictures were something she understood at least, and Nasu had made it clear that locking blades wasn't quite as it appeared in the pictures of the stories she read. With that in mind however, Rhapsody couldn't help but to feel a bit of concern over what Nasu had explained before. "Then... you're saying that attacks aren't meant to be aimed at the weapon?" Rhapsody would question with a slightly worried tone, "I don't really want to hurt anyone though..." She would nearly mumble as her ears folded back slightly. Truthfully, she knew from the stories she read how the fights between swordsmen typically ended, her focus however had been on the aspect of simply the swords clashing with one another. If she was interpreting all that Nasu said correctly, then this meant that her strikes were meant to be aimed upon another persons body, and that was something she simply had no taste for. It wasn't as though she believed she'd never have to strike at anyone, but she'd hoped that confrontations wouldn't come to that. If she could wear down an opponent with blocks and parries, then convince them to surrender, then that would have been the greatest outcome. How in the world was she meant to wear down someone like Nasu however? The task seemed herculean and absolutely impossible, to that end, she began to worry if being a swordsman was really what she wanted... As the concern started to invade her mind however, her Keyblade would emit the faintest of glows as Nasu made his request for Rhapsody to give an opening strike. Rhapsody's ears would perk up as the Keyblade spoke; though not verbally, the girl could feel the intention behind the weapons glow. Even if she was hesitant to fight, the purpose of the blade was to defend both herself and others; whatever future stretched out before them could be handled in those coming moments, in the here and now however, even the keyblade itself wanted Rhapsody to improve and would assure the girl that there was no way Nasu would be harmed here in the least. "Very well then." Rhapsody would say softly, steeling her resolve; Rhapsody would take a deep breath as the faint glow of the Keyblade faded, before she would look to Nasu with a determined expression and would ready herself for combat, "Here I come!" She'd exclaim confidently as she pulled the hilt of her Keyblade closer to the right side of her hip and lowered her stance. Digging her right foot by the toes into the ground, Rhapsody's wings would splay out as she readied to launch herself at Nasu. Feeling an awkwardness in how she was holding her weapon, she'd quickly swap its position from her right side to her left side and would raise the blade up behind her back as the guard and hilt rested nearer to her shoulder; it was a clear telegraph of the intent for a high, horizontal strike, though the coupled low stance left much to be desired in her defenses. Feeling confident in her new posture however, Rhapsody would kick off from the ground with her right foot, stepping forward with her left as she made to rush Nasu as quickly as she could; successfully moving forward a whole few inches before getting her foot caught on her dress and immediately falling forward, flat on her face. For a couple seconds, there would be silence as the wind blew briskly between the two; Rhapsody could hear the grass around them laughing, but would ignore their heckling. Quickly, she would push herself off from the ground, her face completely red with embarrassment from what she'd just done. Patting down her dress however, she would ignore the situation and treat it as though it had never happened while she took up an offensive stance once more. This time however, it was clear she was taking into consideration her posture with a bit more concern; widening her stance in a manner to keep her feet free of her clothing while bringing her weapon back over to her right side. With another quick breath, she was ready once again; while still red with embarrassment, the look of determination she wore hadn't faltered. Her method of attack had changed; with a few steps of her feet she would test her positioning before bending low and kicking off from the ground once more. This time however, she'd not find her feet snagging on her dress as she took her second step and rushed Nasu quickly; her wings splaying out as they had before, a powerful beat would boost her speed and her new intent had been a thrusting strike aimed directly for the incredibly large mans abdomen. While still heavily telegraphed due to her lacking experience, she would strike with as much power and vigor as she could muster coupled a small battle cry as she did so; she trusted in the words given to her by her keyblade, and sought to go all out against the superiority trained opponent before her! Rhapsody was of course asking the right questions for a beginner. Nasu, too, would not understand how it really worked to fight with a weapon when he was younger . It would not be unbelievable to think that some could see the use of a weapon to be not as merciful as fists but in truth he did not believe that statement applied one bit. Simply enough because there were men more than capable of killing with their hands alone, without the need of a weapon. So it was not like using a weapon was any worse than going at someone with your hands but of course it was also a different situation.
He believed that many types of weapons were mostly ideal only for that kind of crude fate. For example you could not do much beyond slicing with a katana, but it was also true that most weapons were not so sharp to actually cause any cuts to a prepared opponent or even worse someone with armor. That took a lot of skill and strength to pull off, but of course the point was that directing your sword at someone’s body did not immediately translate into death.
Of course injuries were going to take place but that was no different from using your fists. What else was one going to fight with? Petting their opponent? Surely some would find it more pleasing but also far less efficient and dangerous for your own sake. Nasu could understand her hesitation but she could not let herself worry that much yet.
“You could theoretically strike the weapon on purpose. In my case I could try breaking their blades if I slice at their weapon’s tip, or if you are precise enough you could even attempt a disarming maneuver. But that is a little more advanced and honestly will not serve you well against people that are also powerful, unless you are just as fast as they are.”
Of course he was slowly learning more about this stranger each interaction. She did not seem willing to hurt others which was a good thing, of course. Even Nasu would have had a similar phase back then, but there was a little problem with that; if somebody was out there to hurt you, they would not stop just because you were not going to. Sure, there were chances and whatever other more diplomatic actions could possibly stop a person, but that was one in a million when it came to a world where you could achieve extraordinary power.
“No, you do not have to be harming anyone just because you are using a sword. First it is not even so easy to just get through another weapon user’s defenses, if you actually manage to break through that barrier you can pretty much knock them out in any other way, but even a small cut can do the trick if you land it well. Second, you do not really have a blade. Yours does not likely risk cutting anyone, it is more like a brawler’s choice of arms, so it would be more akin to using a bat or a staff most likely. Does it still hurt? Yes. But do not expect evil to stand down just because you tell them to.”
He took a short moment, given the practical uses and cases asides, which were definitely useful to make clear and make sure there was no confusion over. Again, using a weapon could definitely make for a great advantage in a fight but one had to be responsible enough to know how to use it and even just wielding it was definitely something beyond the act itself of using a sword. Just having it could be considered something of a benefit, as many would think twice before picking trouble with you.
Not to mention that of course one could perhaps either try to talk them out of the fight and all. But Nasu felt like he knew a different life; he did not deny there were likely those that would perhaps give up and decide to rightfully find another course in life but in all honesty Nasu believed there were more people that would likely get riled up and keep fighting rather than give up just because you had a sword or in general if you tried to defend someone or something. She had to understand this much.
“Besides, you should not ever hesitate. I understand where you are coming from. I am the first guy that would give my enemy a second chance, it is only fair that they get one. But you should not exaggerate with that or in a few words; you can not take it that easily in a fight. When you have something to defend, it is not just about stopping the bad guy. Hesitating may leave an opening and you might end up losing that which you hold dear. Giving a second chance is a risk, I admit it even if it is the way I do things. For all you know your enemy could later exploit others or go after those you deem dear to you. Even if I would rather hope that a bad person can understand their mistakes instead of coming back for more.”
This was nearly infinite, of course, there were plenty of scenarios or events one could possibly account for, all that even Nasu that was much older would not manage to possibly imagine. Perhaps he also lacked some degree of experience on the matter but he was sure and confident about the things he currently told, and with a brief nod he would just sum it all up in one statement.
“It is not easy being a good guy. I guess you can say that. You will definitely face some awkward and tight choices. But you will do fine if you stay true to yourself, probably.”
He did not want to make her too comfortable about that notion. Life was full of surprises and there was no telling when she would end up disappointed and done dirty by the events of this world. But he preferred this approach rather than just spouting up lies about how they could stop just anyone, for he knew there was always a bigger fish.
“Come!”
Nasu had noticed the glow of that sword, a part of him believed that it could have just been the sunlight that reflected off its materials and produced some kind of illusion, but if she was honest and she could really talk with that sword, then perhaps he had just witnessed to a possible proof that he was about to cross his own weapon against a sentient blade. But that did not matter much to him, the man did not shift stance and instead just briefly pulled away his fingers, getting a feel for the air before he once more wrapped them around the hilt lightly enough so that he could make any one last minute shift.
Rhapsody ran for it, if anything she really did have quite the spirit but of course Nasu recognized that she was somewhat sloppy even in that, he did not have to really see that fall of hers or when she fell, he did not even recognize it. Was it funny? Kind of, but he decided not to be mean and laugh off her. It probably happened to him before, too, who knew. However what he wondered right now was if this lady had actually ever fought before; of course dresses were never a good idea in a battlefield unless they were properly styled to suit a battle or if you were actually good enough at fighting with one.
Given she just fell like that he began to doubt this one was a fighter at all, especially since apparently it was the Keyblade that guided her. Yes, lots of food for his brain there but again he found it rude just to comment that fall or even question her, thus he stayed silent and waited for the woman to recover. Which she did eventually and even if still clearly embarrassed she launched herself at him.
The moment he saw her type of attack, he shifted weight to his left and stepped aside while he would slow her down with the tip of his long blade, allowing both weapons to stride briefly and placing it above hers, blocking her attack.
But he would not just let them clash, he pressed all its weight and his own on that weapon of hers before he swung his blade to the left, he knew that doing that would free the Keyblade from the Shadowbreaker that sat upon it but he aimed for her, as a demonstration of what he meant earlier, he launched all his strength into one switch that would swing into her stomach, luckily for her, what would hit her was not either edge of the blade but the very body of it, in a vertical position since he had used one of the edges to stop her blade. It was not any different from being struck with a baseball bat right into the stomach, in a few words.

Rhapsody had come in with incredible speed upon the incredibly large opponent before her, placing all her weight behind the forward strike she'd launched against the man. In her mind, the days of her childhood had played out quick, but briefly; her play fighting with Aiden, an equally large individual much like Nasu being the basis for why she attacked the way she did. The the lion Zoanthrope had been twice Rhapsody's size, and perhaps three times her strength, Rhapsody had more than made up for that with speed. Unfortunately, the few times that Aiden did accidentally hit Rhapsody weren't exactly good times for the two of them, even more unfortunate was that the opponent she fought now wasn't anything like she or Aiden. While Rhapsody and Aiden in the past may have referred to their get togethers as training, in truth it was no more than play fighting with an emphasis on play. Nasu however wasn't playing, Nasu was a trained warrior and the same tricks and movements weren't about to work on a man who'd wielded the sword for nearly all of his life. In spite of her speed, Nasu proved how effectively she could not only be blocked, but also countered with the most minimal amount of effort needed. While it no doubt fell upon her as a difference in skill, it was difficult to say whether or not it was because she was lacking, or if it was because Nasu was simply that much more skilled. It could have even been both that played a factor in the situation, but regardless, the heavy differences between the two of them would be made apparent by this singular moment. With a simple sidestep, Nasu had evaded the forward strike, and in a planned follow up, he had effectively limited Rhapsody's immediate fighting strength with his massive blade. The mans sword would come down upon the shaft of her own, its weight immediately dropping the tip of Rhapsody's Keyblade to the ground and forcing a stop of her momentum. Before Rhapsody could even think to attempt removing her blade however, Nasu's own sword would beginning to move; quickly traveling the length of her keyblade, Shadowbreaker had been upon her form. Flinching, Rhapsody would lift her left arm up to guard her face, closing her eyes and foolishly losing focus of the fight. The flat of Shadowbreakers blade would be upon her abdomen, and in a single motion, Rhapsody would be sent hurdling back several meters. Rhapsody would gasp as the weapon impacted her stomach, stealing the breath from her lungs and causing her to cough up spit in the process. Instinctively, as Rhapsody was sent flying her wings would fold around her to protect her from the fall; protected by her wings, her body would skid across the ground and grass before coming to a stop. Her wings would unfurl from around her, but although they had protected her from any damage related to the fall, that didn't help the the pain related to the counter Nasu had performed. Rhapsody would lay upon the ground mostly motionless as she clutched her stomach with her left hand; surprisingly, she still held firmly onto her keyblade in her right hand, but it was clear that she was currently lacking the ability to continue. If it hadn't been clear to the veteran swordsman before now, it would likely be abundantly clear now as to what skill level and experience Rhapsody was at. The only true fight Rhapsody had ever experienced had been during her encounter with the vengeful bear spirit, but that had not been a fight she had won through the efforts of her swordsmanship. Pure luck, and the will of the keyblade itself had kept her safe in the fight, and it had been through the keyblades power that the bear was, not defeated, but freed from the chains that bound it to the mortal realm. Rhapsody was a novice, less than that, she was a girl who had never used a weapon before in her life until recently and that fact showed through her lacking ability and predictable actions. "J... just a moment!" Rhapsody would exclaim from the ground, lifting her keyblade wielding hand up with her index finger released from its grip as a further sign for her request. It was likely Nasu had held back significantly, as a trained veteran he likely knew how to control his strength against a new trainee quite well. What he couldn't have been prepared for was to have been doing battle against a girl newly grown from her teen years, armed with an unearned weapon, whose most difficult task in life was doing daily chores in the village. "He... hehe, y-you were right!" Rhapsody would call out as she slowly released the hold she had on her stomach and lifted herself up to her knees, "That clash... w-was short!" She'd continue through a forced laugh, feigning strength as she tried to ignore the pain that shot through her body, "I-I'll bet bad guys quit instantly against you!" She'd state as she rose back to her feet, her voice squeaking for a moment as she held back the pain and took her weapon back into both hands; tears had clearly begun to form at the edges of her eyes and her body shook, and yet she seemed to adopt an offensive stance once again, "Okay! Moment had!" She'd finish, wincing slightly as pain throbbed in her abdomen once again. In spite of the forming tears, the look of determination she wore would not falter; she was untrained and she knew this, but to surrender from a single strike would have been pitiful. How could she have possibly protected others if she couldn't even protect herself? No, she refused to submit so easily, and was ready to strike again; though as much as she yearned to continue, her body fought against her. Her poor stance was made worse by the constant shaking she couldn't seem to stop, and her grip upon her weapon was waning. She would attempt to splay her wing out once more to take flight, but as she did her abdomen would tense and force her wings to close tightly. Quickly recognizing her inability to take flight, Rhapsody would instead opt for ground combat; with a slow build up, she would first begin a walk towards Nasu, before building into a forced run. Lifting her weapon above her head and fighting through the pain she felt, Rhapsody would attempt to strike at Nasu once more, this time with a swift overhead strike. Unlike before, the entirety of her focus no longer remained solely on her target; her focus had now been split evenly between her target and Shadowbreaker. She would watch for Shadowbreakers movements so as to not be struck in such a manner yet again, though whether or not she had the skill to avoid an attack like the last was another story. The man had pretty much collected whatever information he could on her next attack, not even from the few seconds that passed from when she launched her blade, but her stance and movements gave it away when she was not even close enough to him. Given that much had already been hinted to him, he found it easy to think of a counterattack without having to really rush for it.
His own blade weighted enough for her own weapon to probably be pushed down with ease, and when he got that out of the way, his back muscles and arms brought the force to lead the blade’s flat into her, smacking her away in one swoop. The moment of impact was crucial and shocking enough that it sent a breeze through the forest, causing the very leaves to shake and Rhapsody to tumble away from his Shadowbreaker’s reach.
Nasu exhaled a long breath, nearly all of his lungs were emptied in that instant before he freshened himself with newer air through his nostrils. Soon enough he pulled back his foot and held his sword overhead, holding it up onto a shoulder diagonally.
“If you attack first, then you best not let your attack be predictable. Do not get in pose while you are still miles away and you are running for it. You will give your opponent enough time to think on how to fight back.”
By then he had of course managed to make a full book of her experience, which was basically zero. Not to her own fault, he had probably assumed too much to begin with, so he did not expect her to pull this off at all. Even though when he saw her lay down, he was kind of feeling something else. It was a different feeling than usual, but it was something that he recognized as either shame or regret. It was a sparring session and he was pretty sure he had knocked her out for a good few hours now.
A brief echo of the past touched him, he did not remember how many years it had to have been but he could still remember the episode clearly in his mind. Like flowing water, his mind danced away with the currents back; the area was just as green even if the feeble memories showed images greatly enhanced by a brightness, perhaps he tried to make up for the details he did not remember. Upon the grass laid what looked like to be a beaten kid, he tried to push himself up back on his feet with a long sword at his side that had fallen next to him.
The weapon laid motionlessly while the boy tried to use all his strength to push himself up, it was not clear in what condition it was but his mind would paint him red over; whoever he had been fighting with, had not been holding back, to the point where his wounds did not allow him to stand up with any sort of ease. When he looked up, he could still see the silhouette of a man. For some reason it did not fill him with any aggressive emotions but he was indeed somewhat scared of him, someone tall and mighty that decided to go all out during a spar.
He remembered feeling scared, and powerless. Just like way before that time, his village was taken away and burned into the void, no ashes left to mourn for and there was nothing he could have done about it.
Shortly after that, he realized that this feeling was a sympathy that he was feeling right now. He felt sorry for striking her, even if he had even limited his strength in doing so, he had overestimated her a little. Out of worry he was one second away from rescuing her so he could make sure that she was okay, but that was when she spoke up instead. He stopped briefly and just gazed at her blankly, confused even. Could she truly continue? Nasu doubted it but if anything he was once more reminded of his own past and that was curious, the fact alone that he was training someone so much alike made him feel like something was coming full circle and it felt satisfying.
“You are the first beginner that stands up after something like that. Perhaps you can really make it big one day.”
Nasu was not a great teacher, this was his first experience even but he liked what he was seeing. He believed she could probably become much stronger, however a part of him was awakening; a deeper level of empathy. Ever since before he had always helped others out of necessity, now he felt the need to do so because otherwise he felt like he would have been consumed from within, and therefore he nodded and when she was ready to come for more, he interrupted her with a sole finger up in the air.
“One minute. I give you one more minute to hit me at least once. If you do, I promise I will make myself available should you want more help with the way of the sword. Do not worry about hurting me. I can take it.”
The man readied himself for his opponent, his eyes watched her carefully on the way to him and when he could see her having finally mustered the force and courage to run up to him once more he readied himself and swung the sword forth, its long body stood mighty in the way of her Keyblade, horizontally so, while he held the clash briefly.
“When there is a clear skill gap between you and your opponent, forget about swinging your sword in different ways. You watch for his swings and for what is around you, in the end, the only way to win against such a foe is to use anything useful around you. Element of surprise, if you will. All you can find or do to temporarily stun him and make yourself an opening.”
He used Shadowbreaker’s length to run forth, and reach for her back, all the while his blade would grind against her Keyblade. While he could have normally struck at her in one way or another in this maneuver, he chose not to and just to disengage before he once more held his blade ahead in the earlier stance he began this spar with; one more hit probably meant having to carry this girl to a hospital honestly, if anything he was going to be on the defensive and see if she was be able to hit him.

Rhapsody was happy to receive Nasu's praise, however what she wanted now was his approval. The concept of proper sword fighting was still a far off idea, and the result of intentionally causing harm to others would never sit well with her. However she wasn't given a choice in the weapon that had appeared in her hand, and both her Keyblade as well as Nasu made fair points when it came to what was to be expected upon doing battle against evildoers. While it'd have been nice if bad guys simply gave up and turned themselves in for their wrong doing upon being asked, it seemed that battle was mostly unavoidable. Rhapsody wanted to protect others with her power, and while battle wouldn't be the only way she could achieve that, it was an experience she'd likely have no choice but to accept. The girl had charged in as Nasu gave his minute long warning; while this first leson had been free, subsequent lessons would require a form of payment. As for the form of payment Nasu had in mind? One successful hit upon his form; with his size, this seemed like an easy task, but with his skill, it felt impossible. The man had switched to the defensive, likely knowing that any further offensive measures would have brought the fight to an end in an instant. Rhapsody's body was beginning to get back into the groove of motion, but her muscles still ached like crazy and the pain from the earlier strike to the abdomen showed no sign of lessening, especially with her current movements. Rhapsody thought to Nasu's earlier words as she made swing after swing against the man, motions more akin to flailing than swordplay. Her body wasn't accustomed to the use of a sword and certainly didn't like the wide and broad motions she was making in an attempt to strike at Nasu while keeping her distance. She held no fear towards receiving a second strike, but knew that she wouldn't be getting up a second time and so maintained a fair degree of caution. This caution seemed to be holding her back however, and her stamina would soon be spent if she continued at her current pace. Nasu's words echoed through her mind; short and swift motions, the type of motions that would keep her weapon nearer to her body. While he may have maintained the defensive for now, the man had never said he wouldn't go in for a second strike, such was the reason for Rhapsody's caution; if she wanted to progress however, then in this moment, she knew she had no other choice but to throw caution to the wind. "One minute?" Rhapsody would parrot as she took a small leap back; her wings acting as a chute to slow her decent, "More than enough!" She'd exclaim with a much fiercer expression, launching from the ground the moment her toes touched the grass. Her entire posture had now changed, she kept a much lower stance which both decreased the area she could be struck while increasing her defensive ability. Her keyblade, held firmly within both hands, was brought near to her abdomen as she rushed in towards the superior foe. She held the blade of her weapon forward, first appearing as though she was going in for a forward thrust; the idea of not setting up in a proper position for a strike seemed impossible, but she would make it happen. Nasu had given the instruction, and so she saw fit to follow it; just as she had reached Nasu, blade out to clash against his own, Rhapsody would suddenly change her posture and position at the last second in an attempt to land a blow. A small leap into the air, along with a direction change of her blade; her forward thrust would shift into a wobbly horizontal slash from the left to right, though Nasu's defenses would see the strike easily blocked. She felt an incredible lack of power in the strike, and immediately knew that performing such a shift in actions was simply beyond her current ability. Still, not yet seeing any other alternative, Rhapsody would continue the misdirect within her strikes; lacking in both speed and power due to her lack of skill, Nasu would block blow after blow, and once against Rhapsody would feel herself wearing down. Whether or not a minute had passed or not within the subsequent blow however was unknown to her; feeling pressed for time, Rhapsody leap back once more before rushing in for another attack. "HAAAA!!" The girl would shout as she leapt upon Nasu; sending what appeared to be a heavily telegraphed forward thrust towards his chest as she jumped into the air. From her aerial position, it seemed unlikely that her strike was anything other than what it appeared, but with the final bits of stamina she had left, Rhapsody would attempt a final surprise attack. She thought back to her maneuvers against the vengeful bear spirit she fought, another foe of superior size just like Nasu. While an animal was obviously different than a person, that didn't mean the maneuver was destined for failure; adding to her idea, she had now taken a keen eye in exactly how Nasu had been blocking her strikes. The man could have changed his method of defense easily, Rhapsody was sure of this, but she would gamble on the idea that his intent was to remain predictable for the sake of this training session; with her lacking stamina, she had no other choice now but to rely on that gamble, and so would go in for the attempt. Brimming with hope and ferocity, Rhapsody would see Nasu's blade once again clash with her own in her attempted forward thrust. Quickly, that thrust would be shown to be a feint however; the moment the blades of their respective weapons would touch, Rhapsody would give a mighty beat of her wings and suddenly flip in midair. Bringing her body into a tight crouch, her flip would be last less than a second before she would suddenly be above Nasu's blade and would extend her legs quickly. Her armored boot would come down swiftly upon Shadowbreaker, but with her weight and strength that blade wouldn't likely be moved; rather, her attempt wasn't to move the blade but to propel herself. With a powerful kick, Rhapsody would spring board off of Shadowbreaker and rush behind Nasu with one final flip. "Take this!!" She'd shout as she completed her flip above Nasu's head; hold firm to both Nasu's words and her keyblades assurance of his safety. Her weapon had no blade, her strength was lacking, and the man she fought was incredibly trained; she didn't want to hurt him, and had faith that with her current ability she actually couldn't. With this in mind, she'd bring her weapon down with full strength, allowing the momentum of her flip to amplify both her strength and speed. She aimed to strike Nasu directly in the back of the head with her weapon; failing this however, she had one final chance prepared for herself. Should her first strike had fail, her flip would continue, and with one final beat of her wings, one final push that her body would allow, Rhapsody would shoot back towards Nasu; not in an attempt to land a blow with her blade, but in an attempt to headbutt the massive target that was his back! Nasu did not even have the time to properly warn her with the new rule that she had already charged in. At that point he was convinced that she was not going to back down, perhaps not even after the full minute had passed, but he would keep count in his mind. She returned onto trying to hit him with swinging that was indeed more akin to flailing. His eyes followed the sword fly left and right and of course while some could argue it was an unpredictable pattern due to that literally being random, in truth there was a level of predictability since the opponent would always try to strike for what looked like a gap in one’s opening.
If one saw things that way, it was pretty easy to just kind of see through it and even then when he swung his blade, he simply allowed it to clash against her own keyblade whenever it merely tried to reach for him, in a way even there he was pretty much handling himself well.
“You are not going to accomplish anything like this. I told you to use your head.”
Flailing itself was a move like any other which was basically useless in a real battle unless used in certain circumstances where perhaps one needed to break their opponent’s defense by striking as hard as possible multiple times, but this was not the case. The encounter came to a pause when he made his announcement, but this time he witnessed Rhapsody assume a lower stance instead.
For a moment the man’s eyes shined with interest; could it be that she had gotten the idea to finally use her height as an advantage? Surely that could have been a fine point indeed, it was underestimated just how much smaller opponents could be bothersome for one with his height. But of course that would also imply she would be capable and agile enough with her sword to be a nuisance, certainly that somewhat put him on edge. While he hoped she could make it, he hoped he would not go down so easily after establishing that one hit condition.
“Come, then!”
When she finally charged against him, he was slightly disappointed however when she did not properly use her height, instead she hopped in the air and tried to execute a faint, that while of course always a reliable approach, he simply defended himself with the flat of the sword forming a wall ahead of him, holding it strong with his other fist closed and packed against the blade while he held the hilt with only one hand. He simply let her keyblade clash against his own sword, and any blow in between simply saw him swinging and striking back.
Much like he instructed her earlier, he kept the clashes short and quick and only made sure to watch for the sparks created by the blades as a signal for him to step aside. Blow after blow, he was slowly growing somewhat tired from staying in a defensive stance but when she once more came flying towards him, he decided to knock her away, this time he could do so by his own fist most likely and thus held his sword in one hand before he prepared his other hand to land a nice and sound hit.
He did not really pay any attention to the wings previously, however, feeling somewhat confused when she suddenly flapped in mid air and all of a sudden he stumbled in his grip. The moment she landed on his sword was the moment an extra weight that he did not consider suddenly heaved over his arm’s strength. Yet when she decided to attempt the thrust again, he could still use his other hand to defend himself, except that it was yet another feint. When she flipped over him it was far too late for his sword to really be positioned in any other way, he had in mind a maneuver or two that would however hurt her and instead just realized there was really no basic way out of this that would not possibly come with some aftereffects for his opponent, thus he had pretty much been bested under the conditions he had established himself; to remain defensive and to give her one minute. And thus, the keyblade hit his head finally and had him stumble and lose his balance, walking it off with a groan when his free hand rushed for the back of his head.
“Could have aimed for my back instead, ow.”
It was not a real sword so thankfully he did not suffer real injuries but it still hurt a lot, it was like getting smacked with a bat in a few words. He resumed to rub the back of his head over and over until he could kind of feel the pain subside into a stinging nuisance, but even if it still hurt, in the end she had come victorious from this challenge so he guessed there was at least a hint of happiness in this. Nasu let his hand lay and put his sword to rest, or at least its tip, into the ground, stabbing it just gently enough to create a gap that could keep it still before he turned around to face Rhapsody.
“Not exactly what I expected but it worked, so I can not say you failed.”
To be fair he was not even counting the seconds, therefore he had no idea whether a minute had passed or not, but that was probably best left unsaid lest she would begin getting worried. In his eyes, she had passed and that was probably enough. He did not know how to exactly get straight to the point, but there was of course one point to be made.
“So, like I promised I will help you out with sword training. But there is a matter that somewhat troubles me. Earlier I did not go as easy as I could have because I expected you to be a little stronger than your average human. What are you exactly? Because let me tell you, we need to work on you, in general. You need to become faster and more resistant and powerful. Strength is something we can avoid depending on your style of choice.”
He picked up his sword and slowly latched it to his back once more.
“Tell me about yourself. Why do you want to become a swordsman, and if you have any combat experience.”
