When Zerori had actually managed to escape the insanity that was being attacked by some bat-like creature but also seeing Liari transform into a GIANT blue Ape, the relief she’d felt had nearly brought her to tears as she’d sped away and eventually crashed into the ground when the adrenaline high had passed. Gasping for every breath as her muscles burned and the exhaustion from not just using up so much of her energy and magic in a short amount of time but the burns she’d received from Liari’s attack - it was just too much for Zerori at the time and she’d taken solace in the fact that she could allow herself a moment to weakness along the smoking trench of the ground to breathe.
She didn’t know how long she’d stayed there, just breathing and looking up at the sky with a dazed expression before she’d finally found the strength to get back to her feet and try to reassess what had happened. She brought both hands up, covering her face as she grimaced, “Liari… holy shit, what HAPPENED?!” She yelled, feeling as though she’d been the target of some kind of disgusting joke. She didn’t care that Zero had transformed along with his brother and basically attacked another nameless Saiyan. She didn’t CARE that the tournament didn’t even happen the way it should!
She didn’t even care that some random creature - likely attracted to the assembly of powers - had chosen HER as it’s meal. She’d come here to try and hold off some threat to the city… only for everything to become so much more complicated. What was she supposed to do now?!
… .. .
An hour later, the door to the bakery that Zerori had built as a safe house would be slammed open in the middle of the night - shattering the glass and setting off the alarm. An alarm that would be destroyed a moment later as Zerori would drag her body through the doorway and slowly make her way toward the basement. The glass of the display cases would have cracks in them, packaged breads, cupcakes and muffins having fallen to the floor as Zerori had literally forced herself through the bakery proper and managed to input the code into the door the led to the basement…before the world spun on it’s head and Zerori went tumbling down the stairs to land on her back on the floor below.
Energy dangerously low and strangely without any help from her employees or Korn, Zerori’s eyes would gradually close as the temptation to take a nice long nap was too good to pass up.
"Gonna... need a rain... check..." She slurred, her head lolling to the side.

After arriving on Earth shortly after the power levels would have faded from the event known as the Liari games, Athren's original plan had gotten a little push back from an invitation to spar from a rather tall individual. Given that he had been away for months, he figured a few more hours to visit the one he wanted to see the most wouldn't do any harm, after all he's already waited all so long for it. Though it wasn't just the time that was his primary excuse for the delay but the thought of what he was going to say.
It wasn't like him to have these kinds of strong feelings for somebody, but one individual stayed on his mind throughout every single day. No matter whether it was the moments of his success he found on Yardrat or the quiet nights reliving his life's greatest tragedy, she had somehow managed to bring him a sense of calmness that he couldn't find anywhere else, even if she wasn't present with him in those very moments. Being so knew to this whole thing, the deep feelings, he was lost on the words to say but given her react when meeting Ayu, Athren couldn't help but expect her to be feeling something similar and even if he was wrong, there was only one way he could find out.
He waited until the early hours of the morning, two AM almost, waiting about as long as he could manage before finally making his move. It might've been the wait, or the events of the night prior to him that pushed him to simply just go and do it but he sensed out Zerori's energy signature and immediately used his instant transportation technique to go to her. Though it was very faint and weak and he couldn't help but assume she was sleeping, he managed to lock onto her with his advanced Ki sensing abilities.
Given he assumed she was sleeping, he made sure to teleport near her and not directly beside her. Otherwise, it could've just gone bad but as he appeared outside of her famous bakery, he couldn't help but immediately notice the damage to the door which looked like a forced point of entry. This combined with the low energy reading from Zerori herself had put him into a rushing state where he ran into the building and immediately followed the path of destruction right down the steps to find her..
When he saw her on the floor he immediately felt uneasy, the situation just wasn't right. "Zerori?!" Without raising his tone he had spoken her name softly with a massive tone of concern to his voice. Before he knew it he rushed to her side and took a knee beside her to lift her into his arms, to get her head off the hard floor. "Come on, Wake up will ya?" His left arm had wrapped around her shoulders to support her as his right hand gently rested on her face with his thumb gently running across her cheek. Seeing her condition, he could tell that the situation wasn't that bad. She had some minor injures that were apparent but for the most part he came to the conclusion that she had warn herself out like she did in their spars.
Though when she would wake up, he wasn't quite sure what he'd do. Part of him just wanted to go for it but was this really the best time? He figured he'd gauge the situation based on her reaction to his arrival. After all, maybe she wouldn't like waking up in his arms.

She wasn’t sure how long she’d been collapsed on the floor, the pain of her injuries fading into obscurity the longer she was out cold. All she knew was that when she’d finally come to, the sensation of something warm gently caressing her cheek bone was hands-down the best way she’d been woken up ever and she almost damn near fell back to sleep from the rare feeling of safety. It was when she’d sensed that it was Athren and physically heard the concern in his voice that she was merciful and cracked open an eye. Sure enough, not far from her face, was the handsome features of the man she’d wished well on his journeys… was it weeks ago? Months? Even though she’d counted down the days, suddenly she wasn’t sure how it had been since she saw him.
“... Hey there,” She mumbled, the tired stretch of a grin on her lips as she looked up at him, “You look like you seen a ghost, Lone Wolf,” She teased, albeit weakly. While she had no doubt she might have looked worse than she felt, the ache in her muscles remained as she gave a grunt and tried to gradually push herself up off the floor and into sitting up. As expected, the action elicited a grunt of pain and hiss before she managed to finally settle into a posture that didn’t remind her of every painful hit she took mere hours ago. She brought a hand up to her head, rubbing a sore spot as she looked around, “How long was I out?” She questioned, more to herself than Athren since there was no way HE would know!
When she looked back up at him, the expression of annoyance at the pain she felt soothed into a softer smile, “Missed you. When’d you get back?” Suddenly, she remembered her message and blinked, wondering if he’d returned because of said message. Hesitantly, she thought about whether she should bring it up and ask if that was the reason before she shrugged and realized that it didn’t really matter and stretched her neck with a resounding CRK-CRACK! She grinned up at him, “Don’t tell me you were worried about me?” She teased, though if she were being honest…? Athren had every right to be worried about her. He’d lost everyone he’d cared about and had left to become stronger and upon his return, he finds her like this? “I’m fine. It could have gone worse, but I… I got out just fine,” She knew she’d need to give him a better explanation than that but it was the best way she could reassure him of her health in the quickest way possible.
"I, uh... imagine you'd like an explanation, yeah?" She offered, bringing a hand up to scratch the back of her head. Shit, was she going to get a scolding? Not like she wouldn't deserve it.

If there was truly anything that Athren needed and didn't know that he needed, it was the sound of her voice and that became absolutely crystal clear in the second that it took her to say her soft spoken and weak greeting. Despite the situation that she had found herself in, he couldn't help but have a light smile on his face upon hearing the sound of her voice and knowing that she was okay. He knew she was a strong woman, tough and stubborn but after all the losses he took those few months ago, he had now feared losing her and he felt like even the slightest of things could take her from him. He didn't want that to happen, he wanted her right here with him, he wanted her for who she was, every single day and his heart couldn't tell him anything but that.
With a grin on he face she had already began the playful banter that he missed so much, though he remained silent for a few seconds longer than normal just to take in the moment he too couldn't help but allow a bigger smile on his face. His retort was rather short and simple, teasing playfully on an equal footing. "And you look like you lost a fight." Though it was something he had never done before, it was almost instinctual to press his lips softly against his forehead. It may be that he could blame his worry, or the relief he felt to know that she was okay but the truth was that it was purely just love. A feeling that was genuine and true for the first time in his life, a real connect that he hadn't had the luxury of feeling before. At least, not like this in the romantic sense. Though when she asked how long she was out for his eyebrow arched curiously and he chuckled and with a little shake of his head he spoke up once more. "You know I just got here, right?" With that, a little chuckle had escaped his lips.
Keeping eye contact for as long as he could he smiled reassuringly to her as they spoke. "Seems like I got here just a few hours too late.. and I'm glad you're okay, but.. I'm here now, Just like I promised." Though he did feel bad about not making it in time, she was safe and that was what was important. If he would have told her the full truth about his new abilities and that he could have been there in a second, surely she'd probably want to rip him apart but that was a conversation for another day or maybe even a demonstration. The truth was, he could sense what was going on from his travels and IF it got that bad, he would have been there. He just didn't want to reveal himself like that, unless he absolutely had too. He believed there was a time and a place for him to show his new tricks, but it wasn't then, unless of course Zerori actually NEEDED him. Without a doubt, he would have been there in the last minute to save her.
Though it was at this point he went a little on the quiet side upon being questioned about his worry for her. Of course he worried, she was on his mind every single day. She was the thing that got him through. He listened closely to each and every single word she said, his attention was fully on her and when she finally went quiet was when he acted and spoke his mind. Maybe the timing could've been better, maybe he should have waited it out until she was healed and back on her feet, recovered from the wounds received from whatever mess she had gotten herself into but the fact was, this couldn't wait. He had to get it out now. "I'm glad you're okay, and I knew you'd pull through.. and I'd love an explanation but first.. I need you to listen, okay?"

With a scoff, albeit weak in her current state, the beginnings of a retort died on the tip of her tongue as she felt the press of his lips against her forehead and froze right then and there as just how natural it had come to Athren… and how sudden it had come to Zerori. The warmth she felt in her chest had taken her completely off guard, but it wasn’t unwanted in the least. Just. Unexpected. Thankfully, she was able to regain her cool demeanor upon learning that Athren had only just recently returned to Earth - and what was that she heard in his voice? Was that possibly regret for being nearly too late? Zerori wasn’t going to have any of that. She’d had a whole spiel prepared in her head in a matter of seconds after his words of confidence in her but she’d allowed herself to shelf for the moment as he’d wanted her attention.
For a short moment, Zerori was silent but she didn’t want to just leave it off on that note. “Okay. Yeah, I’ll listen, but… if I ever hear you imply that being late was your fault, I will literally climb my ass out of Hell and beat you to death,” She smiled sweetly, the threat not at all a bluff, “-and I know it’s possible.” With her threat/promise laid bare Zerori would readjust herself just a little bit more comfortably to be sitting on the floor with her legs out in front of her and allow her arms to casually rest over her knees.
There was a lot to unpack, she knew, and certainly enough that could fill a conversation twice over but something about the way Athren spoke to her and his body language made it feel like there was a sense of urgency that she just… just couldn’t ignore. She’d looked him over as she waited for him to speak his part first, making sure not to interrupt him so that she could get the entire context. “Go on,” She encouraged with a gesture of her chin upward toward him, the twitch of a grin on her lips but she did her best to make sure not to look like she wasn’t taking this seriously.

He couldn't help but smile at her words again, something about her had hooks so deep in him that he was truly vulnerable around her, he wasn't cautious as he normally was, she was capable of making him feel things he hadn't ever experienced before and he accepted them to be good things, this whole thing so far was good. Though knowing what he wanted to say, or at least wanted to try to get across could change the whole dynamic, he tried to appreciate the moment now, enjoy every second of it and even getting his kicks from her little threat, which he took to be a rather serious one. "If you can manage to climb your way out of hell and beat me to death, I'd be rather impressed." He replied calmly, if only to stall for the few extra seconds before he started to really speak his mind and get to the point.
Before he started to speak on his point, he cleared his head of the image of her crawling out of hell, and even stumbled over the fact that she said she knew it was possible. Was there something that he didn't know about death? I mean it was totally possible, but c'mon? Then again, he did have his own mission of finding the Dragon Balls in order to bring his kids back so it wasn't such a far fetched thing, in fact it seemed rather in line with his own plan. Though after enough stalling and enough putting it off, he needed to get to the point and he really needed to get this all off of his chest. It was odd though, the months he spent thinking about her out on Yardrat, alone and without her company, thinking of all the ways that this could go down, yet he didn't picture it like this and he still didn't know the exact words to say, all the preparations he did for this moment had seemed completely useless. It was his moment to completely wing it, say what was on his mind at the time and hope it went over well.
His ocean blue eyes shined as he looked into hers, and he couldn't help but think again how this was truly one of the worst times to be doing this but it couldn't wait. "Just before I left, I told you I'd come back for you, yeah?" His opening words, used to stall even just a little longer as he really tried his best to get it out. "I came back because you never really left me when I was gone, you were on my mind every single day and you were one of the few thoughts I couldn't escape. One of the thoughts I didn't want to escape, the only good one I had left." With a heavy exhaled breath, he went on and just got to the point. "With that being said, the truth is. I want you Zerori, I want you for every day to come."
He wasn't sure whether or not he nailed it, but he cut it short and ended up getting to the point. Though he did picture himself kissing her passionately after he said his part, the whole wounded part kind of made him change up the plan. She had been through enough and if this wasn't for her, why put her through another terrible situation? All he could do was wait for what was going to feel like an eternity, for her to say her piece and put him at ease.

It was with a notable amount of patience that Zerori would merely smirk at his retort to her not-so-joking joke and wait for him to say what he wanted. She could tell by the way he hesitated that this, whatever it was, was difficult for him and she would merely cock her head to the side in curious encouragement before Athren seemed to find his voice. His expression was something she’d never seen before, however, and the amount of emotion she’d seen in his gaze was enough to nearly choke her of breath - nevermind words. Slowly, Zerori’s smile faded with the weight of his first words - recalling how she’d made him promise to come back and not once had she ever doubted that he would. To have him here, right now, before her when she’d least expected it was… well, she couldn’t really describe the relief she’d felt.
Sitting along the floor, held by him as she’d gradually recovered her strength, Zerori’s face felt hotter and hotter as Athren had spoken from a place deep within his heart. She’d scramble metaphorically with trying to keep up, her mouth agape with surprise and shock, even as he finished and Zerori felt the weight of his confession - that’s what it was, wasn’t it?! She stared at him, at a loss for words, as she seemed to search his face for any crack of a facade or preamble of weakness. What she found was more terrifying than any lie or attempt to deceive her… He meant every word and that seemed to compound the fact that he was basically saying he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
Right? That’s what that meant, right?!
When the hamsters in her head finally began to run on their wheel, Zerori lightly shook her head of the haze it was under before she swallowed nervously and looked down, “That-... that’s a lot to take in,” She started, trying her best not to hide her tumultuous emotions from him after what he’d admitted. Zerori had enjoyed ‘flings’ and ‘dates’ and everything in between but every time a relationship of deeper understanding came a-knocking… it was either her cowardice or their resistance to her ambition that let the opportunities walk on by.
Not this one. Not today, and certainly not after what she and Athren had gone through.
When she looked back up at him, her eyes searching his face before eventually becoming hyper fixated on his lips, she’d speak in no louder than a whisper, “I think,” She gasped slightly, out of breath with her own feeling and out of depth with just how hard it was to say as her lip trembled a bit, “I-I want that too.” This was so hard, what was she even DOING?! Was this love? Did she deserve this?! Swallowing the anxiety of her self-worth down, Zerori looked up at him and finally spoke with the shield of confidence on display, “This is the part where we shut the fuck up and kiss, right? Can we get to that part?” She’d nervously grinned, her face still burning hot with the admission and even hotter after she’d accepted.
Just in case he still didn’t get the hint, Zerori would bring a hand up to the back of his neck - gently pulling at the nape of hairs there before she looked between his lips and eyes expectantly, “Less talking and more of that, please.”

The few short seconds after he laid it all out there had truly felt like an eternity, it was almost like time had stopped and come to a very calm standstill. He truly didn't have a clue what kind of answer he was going to get from her. Whether or not she had feelings for him didn't necessarily dictate her answer, maybe this just wasn't what she wanted and though he'd be cool with that, it wasn't what he was hoping for. It was strange to find himself hoping for an answer from this woman in this situation, he couldn't believe that she had managed to get him like this, make him feel all the things he did about her. It was truly a unique and terrifying experience for him but one he welcomed if it meant possibly having her by his side.
With her smile initially fading as he went on about it all discouraged him, it gave him doubts whether or not this course of action was the right thing to do. It was a gamble really, though they had spent many nights together and he wanted her romantically, there was so much more than that. She was fun, she had been a great friend and an amazing person and this risked losing her, the only thing he could really do now was wait and hope for the best, hope that everything he was saying would be met with the same passion and intensity. Her gaze met him, it was clear that she was at a loss for words and he couldn't exactly blame her, he really never spoke like this before and it was new, but it meant everything to him.
When she finally spoke he listened very closely as his heart raced, he didn't know what kind of answer he was in for. It was almost as if she was trying to build the tension further, to get him more anxious. Though when she finally let him off the hook with a simple few words, he couldn't help but smile from ear to ear. When she made her request about the kiss, he wasn't going to wait any longer. He had already been wanting to do it but now, he was going too. It was finally at that moment that he FINALLY leaned in and closed his eyes, holding her just a little bit tighter as he did. His lips meeting with hers with a passion that he wouldn't have experienced before. He held the kiss briefly for a short period of time, the smile on his face growing even brighter.
Though he wanted to acknowledge her answer with words, he couldn't find the right ones to say. All he really knew, was that he was happy in this moment with her and that was all that really mattered but there was still other things to take care of and maybe a little bit more fun to be had, but he still needed to know exactly what had happened. "It's probably an awful time.." He said in a rather soft tone, "But I guess you could give me that explanation now, unless you've got some other things on your mind.." Of course his timing sucked, going from one of the best moments to potentially one of her worst. Though, he knew they'd have to talk about what happened at some point, he'd much rather get it out of the way now. That way, they'd have the rest of the night to do whatever it was they'd want.

The kiss was like a fresh drink of water in a desert, and upon Athren closing the distance between them, Zerori didn’t hesitate to enjoy it for what it was. It lasted a few moments, the hunger between the two of them not unlike a battle between Saiyans, before they separated from each other and Zerori was left to stare into Athren’s eyes with a very clear look of desire. However, the moment was… not exactly broken but most certainly pushed beyond the enjoyable when her lover had made the decision to ask for an explanation now - of all the times… Why am I not surprised, Zerori thought, bemused but not miffed enough to deny his request. They had time, at least, to continue later. Still, that didn’t mean that Zerori was willing to stop at the moment, either.
She could multitask.
“It is,” She said, moving forward to kiss him again out of pure spite before she moved on to pepper his face with kisses in between 3 or 4 words each, “There was a call to arms by an… odd green-skinned girl - figured she was a majin but I’d never felt one so powerful as her before beyond.. Well,” She stopped, positioned just below Athren’s ear and she knew it would be a good way to get revenge on him asking for an explanation. “-someone who used to be a friend. Another Majin girl that is… apparently all grown up now.” It was still hard to understand, her knowledge of Majin’s so woefully limited, and even harder to accept that Liari had become so drastically different. Physically, mentally and even emotionally. How many had she absorbed?
Zerori continued, giving an annoyed huff as her brief musing had finally caught up with her and ruined the mood she was in. Her explanation went on methodologically, no room for teasing left, “It went to shit fast. Zero and Ryme, my employers, were eaten - I was almost eaten but some bat creature from Hell,” She snorted, adding in, “-pun intended.” Before she continued, “-and it was only by sheer LUCK at all that I was able to get away. Turns out,” She looked away, a sour and conflicted expression on her face as she finished, “Kazi, the green Majin, was Liari the entire time. She wanted to make a tournament to… I don’t know, test her power, but everything went wrong.” She brought a hand to her face, teeth clenched as she tried to still the nausea she felt as she left everyone to their fate. “Ran. Like a fuckin’ coward, but I knew - I don’t know if everyone else did - she could just kill us all in a moment she was so angry,” Shaking her head once more, Zerori dropped the hand from her face before looking up at Athren.
“I think I pissed her off the most… maybe. Old Man Shen taught me some impressive tricks but in the end, I’m sure I only pissed her off more. Anyway, that-” She swallowed, clenching her eyes tightly shut before she opened them up again, “-that’s it. Everything up until the point I had a close encounter with the floor and then you showed up.” She shrugged, forcing the traumatic feeling of her hand trembling to cease, “-Could be worse. Could be dead. Or eaten. Both sound fucking horrible.”

Even IF he had a habit of ruining the moment, being with her was more than enough to fulfill him completely. It wasn't like it was every day that he was spending time with her and now that his confession was completed and received rather well, he felt like he could breathe easy and just relax and enjoy many more moments to come with her. Even if he cut the sweet moment of his victory with her short, he was happy. He had wanted to confess for quite some time and all the time thinking about it on Yardrat really got to him, but being the warrior that he was and being new to this kind of feeling, it was so easy to let it just slip away and focus on the fight, her moment of weakness, the moment that could've taken her away from him.
Even if he loved her, he was raised from birth to be a brutal warrior. Taking life without even a second thought, killing those he was ordered too and later in life, killing those he was paid too. It didn't matter whether they were good or evil, even the innocents would face his wrath if the pay was good enough, it was in his blood, it was what he knew. Only recently, his children had caused a shift in him that softened him up, that made him seek retirement, a peaceful life but with their absence, that wasn't an option. All he could do now was what he knew best, and that was fighting the brutal, ruthless fights that nobody else would stand up too. That and of course, seeking the Dragon Balls but until Namek, that wasn't an option. Right now, he needed information.
He listened closely to her every word, he wanted to be there for her in every way possible. Her kisses always returned with a smirk on his face. It was an odd feeling, one that he had yet to REALLY experience in this life, but it was a welcomed one. He wasn't going to let it go easily, he'd hold onto this, he'd keep it close to his heart no matter where he went. If it was truly this rare, it was something worth holding onto with every ounce of super saiyan strength he had. He'd follow this woman into the depths of hell and he'd die for her if need be, but not until AFTER his children returned. They still came first, before her.
Regardless of that though, the seriousness of her words had hit just a little sharper. The loss of life at this little 'tournament' was rather extreme, especially considering that through Athren's experience of Earth, things like this just didn't happen. Though he could sense her pain the more she talked about it, the defeat in her voice trembling with the sounds of despair and hopelessness. She made it crystal clear about how she felt about the whole thing, and how she was a coward in her own eyes but he had to strongly disagree. He wasn't very good in these situations but he knew that he had to try and gently he'd give her a kiss on the forehead just before gently shaking his own head with a response to her.
"It's unfortunate that it all turned out the way it did but.. This Liari person, clearly she's nothing more but a threat now. One we may have to handle together and with that being said.." His ocean blue eyes looked into hers calmly. "We've got some work to do, and it's a good thing that you ran, it isn't cowardly, it's smart. It's a tactical retreat, No? If you were outnumbered like you said, with a bat thing trying to eat you and Liari potentially trying to eat you.. It was the smart move to get out of there, now you can train up more and fight another day. Fight the battle on your terms, the ones that will make it more likely for you to win." He couldn't help but press his lips against her forehead just one more time.
"You survived that for a reason and maybe together, we'll have a chance to right that whole situation. Maybe it won't be the next time you meet her in a fight but I promise you, together.. We'll get through it."
