In terms of work that Khyrop had done such as coming to the planet earth, he had found a healthy variety that had brought him joy and excitement as he learned more about the planet. Even now as he had received contact for a job he never expected he was able to find some sort of opportunity in it for him. One of the various underlings that had followed him onto the planet had recently sent him a letter about a location he had scouted out. However, it wasn't simple scouting as the communication had revealed that it was a great hidden location in the wilds outside north city that was easily defendable and offered a great vantage point. The only issue was that the grunt had been there alone separated from the others and was going to need some assistance in order to help get this new base set up.
While for some it might've seemed odd to bring in the Archduke when he was focused on gathering information, the underling had come to the conclusion that he might have already gained some useful info on the subject from his previous excursions not only on this planet but beyond. In some sense, he had gained a bit from the ones he had checked out on other planets as well as the few bases he had already been to here and wished that he could count his own but at the moment he was living in a parking garage that was turned into a secret hideout with a tricked out basement.
Even with all this considered it might've been odd for him to accept, but he had found it prudent to do so in the end knowing what benefits may come with it. Although he might not be the one manning the new base it was good for his group to have more footholds on the planet for the same reasons they had chosen this place. If he could make it so they could gather information without being seen and defend any gains they make it could be considered a great success.
Now he sat in the air around the mountains where he was told to go and where the signal from his companion was originating from. As he circled the spot he peered around until he saw where a forest grove along the mountainside was corned by rocky walls and a river on the other side. It was well hidden by the trees and the rocks around it although soon enough he saw a hand waving him down from above. It wasn't too hard for the Bio-android to notice who it was as he wrapped his wings around his body diving toward the man like an arrow racing for a target.
The dust on the forest floor was sent into the air with the force he landed as he lifted his wings up and threw them out widespread as he landed right in front of his contact. There was a brief moment of surprise as the armor-clad alien jumped back almost dropping his weapon before catching it and letting out a sigh of relief. If Khyrop wasn't his superior the soldier might've shot him, but instead he was greeted with an awkward salute.
"Usually people get on one knee before nobility." The tease fell off his lips as they curved into a playful smile that would cause the tension to breaking with a soft chuckle snuck past both of their lips.
"Archduke Khyrop, thank you for responding to my request I wasn't sure if anyone else would find merit in my project." He spoke with excitement and anxiety teasing at the tip of his words, speaking quickly only to slow himself down as he noticed. "B-but regardless I know that this is a good idea and I'll prove myself worthy to everyone."
Khy stared at him for a moment, his eyes locked with the other man as if they were continuing their conversation within their mind but in all reality what was happening was them getting a good look at one another. They each had thoughts about one another that wasn't shared and whether or not they were positive or negative was their secrets to hold. Even though it was only a moment it would feel as though hours passed by before one of them had finally progressed time when the grunt suddenly sneezed and became embarrassed.
Instead of saying anything the bat just moved past him and into the clearing past all the hiding places and natural cover, he stepped around a few times while examining and taking it all in. After the entire area had been scouted out the two of them got back together to share their ideas with one another. The rest of the night was spent on the task it wouldn't be until the sun came up on the next day that building would begin.
"Well the weather is pleasant, no one can see us and we've got plenty of material." The soldier spoke as he saw Khyrop drop down from where he had stayed for the night. "I'm sure we can get alot done today."
"Yes, excellent work Panko." His words were accompanied by a nod that showed his approval of the situation and got closer to the equipment. "We'll be able to get most of it done."
His words didn't sound so much like encouragement as they did like a statement of fact, in his mind, it was already done and he just needed to make it happen. With the determination behind him, Khy started grabbing pieces of wood and brick and placing them into respect spots as Panko would bring mortar, nails, and other supplementary building materials to help solidify and build the structure set up by his superior. It was a repetitive task that went on for a while as they built the frame on top of the foundation getting a solid start on the base. There were few small shifts in design as he considered the other parts of the base that would be built beside the main chamber.
A command room was set up, room for bunkers, an armory, a surveillance room, safe, and of course barracks for people to rest in should they be stationed here. Although the rooms themselves weren't built yet as the sun started to get closer and closer to the horizon they had completed their frames and started working towards the roof. Once the outside structure was done they'd be able to make even more refined designs than thought would be possible.
Without light shining on them, they started to lose further time on what they had been working on not thinking about the day passing by them as all they saw was the walls they were working on together. The interior came together as they added in all the walls, formed the windows, and put them in. When tiredness started to overtake them with sleep soon coming they decided to camp out inside the unfinished base knowing that they had somehow completed a lot of the major labor within one day between the two of them.
When the third day dawned upon them it occurred to them how much they had already accomplished and had decided to have a big breakfast in order to celebrate and encourage themselves into the final stretch. With plates full of eggs, bacon, biscuits, hash browns, sausage, oatmeal, and plenty of fruit to gorge themselves on. It was all enticing and for the gluttonous bio-android he had already started to vacuum it down without a care, shoving it down his throat trying to satiate his deep and gnawing desires. Licking his lips clean between each plate he had there was soon a large sigh of relief as he chugged down the last of his fruit juice before being content having stuffed himself with plenty of food and liquid. He had even eaten more than his own body weight but it had quickly been burned down as his belly didn't even distend once.
"....Impressive," Panko said a bit shocked and just went to finish the moderate-sized plate that he had made himself, eating it at a normal pace while he kept his eyes on his odd companion.
"Eating quickly can mean life or death." That is all Khyrop said before he would walk away from their eating spot, looking around the base once again and determining what they had done and what they needed to do. "Alright let's get these rooms furnished and then work on fortifying everything, sound good?"
Panko nodded and picked up his own tool equipment before going to the room that he was supposed to work on for the day, and Khyrop would do the same as they each found themselves in different parts of the structure. For most normal workers this would take longer, but with their strength, speed, and efficiency it only made sense for these two to operate in such an odd way. It had been to their benefit as they each did considerable work with the space they were given along the time. The hope was that together they would be able to more done quickly with them having the skills and knowledge necessary to get things without issue.
As their focused was split between the main office and the barracks with Panko on the latter it was clear that it had benefits and downsides as while they weren't there to aid one another their abilities were good enough that they were fine with the most part, but it would allow them to gget more parts of the building worked on at once. They truly believed they would just get in each other's way if they were to try and focus on the same places at once. Their thoughts consuming them as the space and time awarded to them allowed them to lose themselves in the work. For Khyrop he flew around using his strength to carry and set up furniture with very little issue, and also was able to paint at angles normally needing a ladder. While Pank mostly dealt with using capsules he had purchased to put about beds and storage lockers before putting personal touches on a mural within the barracks.
It was that of the universe, with various tendrils of energy weaving and wrapping around the galaxies and turning planets into gold as they were touched. There were also planets that had been destroyed, represented by golden dust fading from the sillouette the planet once held. While at first glance it might seem purely beautiful, but for those who understood its meaning would either see the gold for its worth or the blood that was required to get it.
"Well that's surely something." Khy would say and surprise Panko as he suddenly chimed in from the doorway which had been left opened by the soldier. The Bio-android would fly forward and take a good look at it, losing himself in the painting for a few minutes before he would give his response to the art. "I do like it though, will show the new recruits what we've done for either motivation by gold, glory, or fear."
"Yeah, I just felt it, while I was sitting here thnking of what to paint I thought of what the organization as been to me and how its kept me going and pursuing my dreams." Panko spoke with passion in his voice, putting down the paint brush before turning back to Khy with a smile peeking from beneath his mask. "I can't wait to see what we get out of Earth, what riches will this story bring us?"
As the question sit on the air it was clear that the two of them had a somewhat romantiacized view of the organization they worked for. Although this might've been the case it was true nonetheless that they had gained great wealth from their work in planetary trade. For Khyrop he truly was lucky to have been found by the PTO and then to have made a friendship with the Ika brothers. It had all been very profitable for him and allowed him to make connections with people such as Panko to further his goals on the planet while completing his tasks getting stronger and richer all the while.
In that they felt satisfised with the work they had done on both rooms, and while it was true that they had definitely gotten alot of work done it was also very accurate to say that there was a lot left. It would've been easy to end it there and leave more to do tomorrow, but then there would also be more to do the day after that until it was an endless cycle until everything was completed at a much later date than was originally planned. It wouldn't do for either of these men or rather soldiers to let things go on in such a manner. Within a few moments of celebrating the work they had done in the two major rooms they would walk past one another and go towards one of the other rooms left in the plan that wasn't finished.
"Let's see who can get the most work done before the dinner bell goes off and we finish for the night!" Panko would yell out to Khyrop as he started to run towards the room he would be working on next but then a smile filled with deviousness crossed his face just before he had left earshot. "Oh and loser has to buy dinner!"
"You will be feeding a rather large stomach my friend, I can eat without stop for hours." He cackled as he suddenly rose into the air and would put all his force into his wings as he flew quickly through the hallways towards his workspace, his laugh echoing through the halls of the unfinished building as it chased after the bat as he flew faster than the sound getting to his location before his words ever did. "Hmm new record, well it looks like I won't be needing to bring my wallet."
With their fun little game taking over most of their focus it was truly a sight to behold the dedication they were putting in to completing a majority of the work in one day as they had jokingly said before. However, now there was the motivation of not only a bet but a promise of a free meal for one of them at the expense of the other. It truly would push them at the thought of either getting the delicious food or just hoping to save their wallet, Khyrop and Panko could hear one another from their own workspaces as inbetween the quiet all they could hear was what the other was working on. It could've been the leftover work that needed to be done or the vents, but everything they did ould echo through the base to the other. Everything except their words that is, that were turned into whispers along the way coming out like wind rustling foliage.
"Mmm I wonder what I should ask for, though I guess at this rate it won't matter." He said with a slight sigh as he heard Khy hammering away at something whenever he stopped with his own fortifications. His resignation would quickly disappear just as quickly as it had overtaken his attituded finishing his previous thought to himself. "Well I guess if he's working to the bone then I will too, I'm gonna get me that meal."
"He really is an eager one." Khy remarked under his breath as he heard the vigorous sounds coming from Panko's workspace, it truly made him laugh a bit as the chuckle even went through the vents only to be heard briefly before it was lost on the sounds of the ventilation. "Well I can't wait to see which one of us will end up paying in the end."
It was truly ironice each of the other though the other one had a better chance yet they would also try their hardest to get the meal. The entire experience was a sight to behold or a sound to crash upon your ears as they didn't care how loudly they had worked. In the end it would be the greatest motivator for both parties as when their work was cut short by the sound of an alarm bell going off rather loudly would overshadow the sounds of the work they were doing. They would each hear the other dropping their tools as they quickly ran to meet up and observe the others work. However, when they did they were completely surprised as it had appeared they had both comletely finished fortifying the rooms they were supposed to. It caused a pause amongst them both as eyes shifted over the cameras and into each others before the silence and tension was broken by harmonious laughter with them entering a hysterical fit at the same time.
'Ahaha, and here I thought you were going to w-win." Panko laughed hard enough to break up his words and hurt his stomach as he held it trying to catch his breath. "I guess I got so worried that I made you worried and neither of us one."
With Khy in a similar state and rolling onto his back with his wings wrapped around himself as he laughed he simply peaked up at Panko with a widespread smile on his own chiropteran face. His eyes would suddenly go bright as he spoke to him in a playful tone. "That's true but you could also say that we both won in a sense."
"Hmm you're right I suppose, what're you thinking Khy?" Panko asked his superior leaning back against the wall in the room, staring at a camera out of the corner of his eye.
"Well if we both won then I guess that we have to buy the other's dinner still." He said while flying around his companion obviously eager to leave the building. As he circled around him it seemed as if he was going to lunge at him and eat him at anytime, although that was just his hunger obviously as he drooled with his speech. "So we just take care of the other's meal, obviously I won't go to crazy."
With that they would end up leaving the structure for the evening and heading towards the city so they could find some sort of restaurant for them to get each other's meals at. In the end they ound a good comprimise that would end up with them both getting as much as a meal as they would desire without hurting the other's wallet too much. A buffet, the true best way to get as much food as possible without having to pay all that much all together. It would be good for them but bad or the store-owners as they entered with an endless appetite and pruchased the all you ca eat option for each other. With drinks in their hands and plates full of food they would guarantee leaving with full stomachs, quenched thirst and a deep satisfaction that would want them to come back once again.
This would take up the rest of their night from the sunset to the rise of the moon even when they stumbled out full of alcohol with blushed faces heading back towards the base they were building where they would decide to sleep for the night. It was a magical experience as they would both go into the barracks picking out a bed next to one another. In their stupor it allowed them to talk to one another in a fit of ecstacy as they planned for the next day.
"We are truly nearly done my comrade." Khyrop said with a soft sigh, wrapping his wings around himself like a blanket without actually using the one below him. Instead he used it as a base for a nest of sorts as he wiggled around and used his legs to knead it below him finding it rather unusual to sleep in such a manner rather than sleeping in his normal upside down habit. "I can't wait to see how the end goes."
"Yes, I can already see the new recruits lining up right now, gosh, it reminds me of when I first joined up and the money we made off my planet." The words fell out of his mouth with joy and revelry, obviously lost in his own thoughts and intoxication as he shared the moment with his fellow planetary conqueror. "Here I thought coming from a colony planet I'd never acheive anything, and then bam I was able to turn in the people who betrayed me, make cash, and join such an organization."
Khyrop would've responded, and he probably did, but as slumber claimed them both it was turned into a half-hearted mumble as first he would pass out and then Panko would soon enough as well as he heard the mumble and imagined the answer with a smile cracking across his lips as he fell into a deep slumber. It would be a deep and heavy one for the both of them as even when the sun rose through the windws it would simply be a warm blanket of light that would comfort them in the place where they rested. With this they would only be awoken by the sound of the last of the parts being delivered by their contact.
"Excellent." Khyrop said as he woke up, he immediately using his ki to fly down the stares and into the shipping area where he saw the package waiting. Using his claws he quickly tore into it before he would pull out a big logo of the Ika Conglomerate that he had made after he had heard about their split. "You see my friend, with this decision to split off we might find some enemies, but for now the PTO has no idea I'm playing them to get the last bits of information before our official defection."
Even though he wasn't as quick as his bio-android companion Panko was quickly in the room, at the exact right time to hear Khy's words as they had been timed with the aid of his advanced hearing. The soldier stopped and looked at the decorations that had just been delivered and let out a long whistle. "Woooo, you're damn right, now I guess we should get to setting this stuff up huh?"
As if his nod was the starting gun as soon as Khyrop gave a slight movement of his head to confirm Panko grabbed stuff from the boxes and started to run around the building finding where everything belonged and matching up measurements to make sure he was bringing the right decorations to the right area. It might've seemed frivolous but with all the major infrastructure and architechture set up it was now time to make sure that all the amenities for all purposes were set up and arranged in a pleasing way knowing that both appearance and aesthetic could set the tone for everything.
To some it was a trivial work without any real importance, but for the two of these men they took it to their heart as they each spent time in each roo with their boxes considering what would go where. They were quick to put banners on each side of every door so they knew whose juridstiction this all fell under. While in some eyes this might seem like a step towards totalitarian methods it could easily be seen as a morale booster to them and other such people within their organization. Along with the mural in the barracksk it served as a powerful reminder to why they fought, what had brought them here, and what else they had to gain from pushing their futures into said careers.
"Do you wonder what the newbies will be feeling when they first see this place?" Pan said to Khy as they passed by each other in the hallway, holding what one might be assume the last of the boxes from how they each held much less than they had been carrying. "After all this isn't just a base and place for them to train, this is the first one in the area and the only one with such a purpose and set up for stealth training."
"Oh I can imagine there will be many a thoughts going through all their minds." The Archduke spoke as he stopped to respond to his question, peering out the window for just a second as though he seemed to be pondering deeper on what he had been asked. This wasn't to last long as he shook his head, snapping from the thoughts with his ears flopping around. "But what's most important is the ones that we're able to put in them."
This seemed to stop the conversation for a moment, the two of them would turn to look at one another the tension held as it was clear to both of them where their similarties ended and their differences began. It wasn't anything that would cause seperation betweeen them and only allowed them to understand what brought them into the group and what they thought they would gain from it. As the thoughts seemed to tease at their mind and make them think of wild thoughts to say to one another on the matter it was quickly snuffed by their own priorities as they would suddenly part from each other once again.
In the end this would be the final time for the project as they would go around the building once again, they had placed the last of the installments, decorations, and so on before giving a final inspection of the place. It seemed to give them satisfaction as they turned the corner one last time and saw the face they each had. It was a look of pride that showed that they each thought that not only the other had done great work but that they themselves had done excellent work that contributed to the success of the project and how well it looked. Even though there was no words said about it once their eyes had locked they each gave a nod to one another that served as a form of acknowledgement on the subject. Once they were together a final check happened as together they walked down the final hall towards the main entrance of the building.
Even though they had spent the last few days in this building together sharing food and memories it would be the last time they would see each other or the base for a time afterwards. This wasn't because they were done with each other or the project, no, rather they were preparing to debut it in a rather big way. With everything completed from building, setting up power, plumbing, and obtaining resources and ammunition for weaponry they thought that it would be perfect to have a grand opening for the people that would be stationed there.
With a curtain hanging infront of the secret entrance and everyone who had been invited in the secret grotto they were able to do it in a proper way without giving away the location and weaknesses of their very new base. It would be a tragedy for all their hardwork to go to waste so they had been quick to set up precautions to make sure nothing they couldn't handle would take place on their big night.
Behind the curtain the two of them had met up again, for Panko he was dressed up in his military dress all matched out to the company's collars with the logo on his tie and chest. As for Khyrop as always he was in nothing but pants, however, he had taken a note from Panko's book as his newly tailored pants featured both the logo and colors of the organiztion. Once again no words were said at first as they just shared a glance and admired each other's outfits. After they had taken all the time in the world to check each other out they had finally shared their thoughts.
"Here we are, once we know what everyone thought I'll know if I'm getting a promotion or getting assigned to the middle of nowhere." Panko spoke with a deep breath, inhaling and exhaling as he tried to gain control over himself, clearly having a hard time with the anxiety. "Haha, it might be a joke but you ever actually know am I right?"
"Relax my friend, it will all be fine in the end, I promise you." Khyrop said as he flew behind him, patting him on the back and trying to reassure him about the situation ahead of them. He truly had no care as laughter broke past his lips with his eyes staring off into space with his final thought on the subject. "Or I could just eat them all and then we don't have to care though I'll just do that if they try to cause any problems anyways."
Although it seemed like Panko had something to say on the subject he chose to ignore it as they both knew that it was time for the curtain to rise on the whole affair. It would slowly, building up with the tension in the grotto as the sounds of nature itself even stalled as they waited to see what was going on. It was then that it would finally happen like lightning striking and thunder crashing first the sheet would completely fall without a response, 1,2,3, and then suddenly came crashing a round of applause that had to be hushed as not to give away their event. It had been a proper success as they would all start rushing inside the base from the new recruits to the old commanders. It seemed that everyone who was looking to leave the PTO with them had shown up ready to show their loyalt for a new cause.
As it all came to a close both Panko and Khyrop would find themselves feeling the same sense of satisfaction they had the day off the project. It had been a truly fulfilling experience now that they had gone through it, with everyone appreciating the building and its features while at the same time bringing in more and more people to work alongside them. With their goal for the project a smashing success they had started to consider what they would do together next. However, that is a story for another time when they feel the need to do more than necessary once again.
