After the events that had just happened on Earth, Athren was weakened and wounded. These injuries were far deeper than just the ones on the surface, the ones that made him bleed. The wounds he had were deep within, the emotional damage that wouldn't be healed so easily, or never at all. Athren didn't know how he'd deal with that trauma or if he even could but he already had a plan to set everything right and Yardrat was well within his first steps. Firstly, he needed to correct the mistake of being far too slow. If he would have been faster, he may have been able to provide his kids a moment to escape, even if so briefly. He'd never allow himself to fail like that again and within his former knowledge of what the Yardrats could do, he had found himself in the right place. When he arrived he was met with their friendly faces and attitudes. They had known of him, he had resided there before, though temporary he was good to them and they had been good to him. It was a fair trade-off. The Yardrat's had been aware of Athren and what he did, though they didn't agree with some of his choices, they didn't make an effort to stop him.
Though he knew that would complicate things with the one he had tracked down, the one he had wanted to ask for training. It wouldn't be an easy sell but Athren had to make it happen, it was the first time in his life that he needed help and he'd do anything within reason to get it. He lost his kids, his baby girl was buried in the Earth's dirt. He had no choice but to get help to make it right, and it was here he'd find it.
When Athren had finally tracked down Pybara, the conversation wasn't the most pleasant one. Pybara knew what somebody like Athren could do with this type of power, the ability to teleport instantly all over the universe? It was a deadly gift in the wrong hands, a tool for massive amounts of destruction if one desired and though he was aware of some of the bad things Athren had did, he was also aware of the job's that involved protecting people, he knew that there was good in Athren, the light was bright enough to match the dark but that wasn't what the thing that would push Pybara into saying yes to the saiyan.
Given that Pybara was a master of ki, he could sense every bit of Athren's energy, even while he had it suppressed. He could sense the internal damage, the shift in his mood, his attitude and the way he carried himself. He could sense Athren's desperation to right the situation that had all gone wrong, from the attack on the USD base to the moment he had left Earth, it needed to be reversed. It needed to change and Athren needed to be out of the picture. Pybara couldn't help but ask the saiyan one simple question that would be the deciding factor in all of this, could Athren REALLY change? Could he focus on using his powers and abilities for good? "Tell me Athren, If I show you our techniques. What will you use them for?"
Athren didn't skip a beat, his desperation and need to fix this was just too much. Athren had truly been defeated, in body, spirit, and in mind. He wasn't going to hide behind his saiyan pride and pretend he wasn't, he wasn't going to deny the fact that he needed help to fix this and he wasn't going to let his only hope slip away. "My intentions are simple, though the execution may be difficult. I need to go to Namek. They've got these wish-granting Dragon balls, with those wishes I can restore the lives of those lost in Orange City, along with the city itself, and wish for every single member of my faction to be brought back to life." Athren's posture wasn't even as strong as it was before, he didn't move his body like he did previously either, he stood still and as strongly as he could, though his heart beat a little faster as he was nervous about the answer he received. "Though, Namek is currently under the control of the Planet Trade Organization, so liberating it is necessary and without these techniques, I've got a slim chance in hell to pull it off." Athren paused for a moment before speaking the words he never thought he'd say in his entire life. "The truth is, I need your help. I need to fix this, I need to write these wrongs and bring back everybody who didn't deserve to pay for my mistakes. I seek redemption."
Pybara had nodded his head as he pondered his answer, this hadn't been his first encounter with the saiyan hybrid. Athren had always displayed his saiyan pride, never request for help, never stating allowed that he couldn't do something. This alone was big step into convincing the Yardrat for help. The pondering had taken place over a few minutes as he ran through scenarios in his head. The final conclusion was that if these techniques were used to save lives, it would be worth it and could potentially set Athren on the straight and narrow, the lesson's he could take from his recent devastating experience, that would be a lesson to guide anybody and would stick to somebody for an entire lifetime.
Pybara finally had given his answer. "On the condition that you change your ways, stop working as a mercenary and use your abilities to help others without the rewards of money and fame, I shall allow you to train under me, but only when you've given me your word." Though giving ones word might have been taken lightly, he had known of Athren's reputation. Athren may have pulled strings at times, and set people up, but he would never directly lie to an individual, he would always speak the truth and that was something Athren held close to him.
Athren nodded his head instantly. "You've got my word, Pybara." This was Athren's choice and he'd follow through, he'd do whatever it took to wish his kids back to life and if this was the path that was now set out for him to reach that goal, he'd walk it without question. His kids deserved so much better than what they got, he was the only one that deserved their fate. Not the people of Orange City, not his faction, nobody else except him.
The next day had found Athren in a situation he wasn't expecting, in fact, it was one that would be his worst nightmare at a time like this. To learn the techniques he had desired he would need to fully control his Spirit, his Ki, and his very life essence. He needed to master it, learn it, understand it and the way to do that? Was meditation. He would find himself gifted a new outfit to replace his worn and ragged saiyan attire, a black Gi with a black shirt, the attire he had a little bit of say in, he found himself crouching on a small pole, with only his toes to balance himself on it. Pybara's first words of the day, "First you must achieve balance in body, and mind."
With Athren's current emotions and mindset, this would be a very challenging task to accomplish. His balance was so far and his mind was so off that it would take extreme focus and determination to figure this out. He was angry, sad, depressed and broken and he wasn't even sure that he could find balance, but he'd need to find a way. Somehow he'd pull through, whether it took hours, days, weeks or months, he wasn't going to leave this rock until it was complete. His whole plan, his kids future depended on everything he did here and now and he wasn't going to quit.
Though every time he tried to close his eyes to focus, to find a sense of calmness, the nightmare on Earth replayed in his head, the wide eyes of his daughter and the echoing sound of her neck snapping, watching her take her final breath, Celric being impaled. It was all too fresh, all a nightmare that he couldn't escape from. It had only brought anger and pain to him, there was no sense of calm and he had nobody to blame but himself. This was going to take a while, though maybe when he figured out the secret to balance, he'd progress rapidly but for now, he had to focus on the baby steps, he had to get there one step at a time and take it slow. He didn't need to rush this, he had nothing but time. He wanted to make sure he'd do this right and get the correct results.
