Well... At least they were trying something new. Athren seemed insistent that this was something that could be taught, sensing energy naturally, despite Salada's evidence to the contrary. After all, he claimed to have learned it himself somehow... but what did that mean for her... especially if it couldn't be described? The way Athren approached it, it was as if this was something that should work itself out eventually, with time, something that should work itself out if she was just stubborn enough or determined enough to break through this wall with her head.
...It didn't much help that Salada was rapidly losing her patience with this little technique as well. What was this even supposed to be and why was it so necessary? There was a reason why scouters, even the older models, were the premier method of detecting and registering power levels across the universe: Most species simply did not have the ability to do the same thing inherently. It was simpler and easier to by an off-the-rack scouter than to spend, what felt like, DAYS trying to force one's body to adapt to a problem she wasn't even sure it recognized as existing. It was like trying to train your eyes to see in infrared or to train one's ears to hear above average ranges. It just seemed IMPOSSIBLE... In this way, Salada looked upon Athren and his ability to sense power levels as perhaps further evidence of his legendary status. Perhaps he was, for lack of a better descriptor, some kind of mutant, being able to achieve things (aside from his golden transformation) that normal Saiyans could not! It irritated her to no end how plausible it might be and by the grace of god (or perhaps her survival instincts), Salada kept the scream of frustration building in her throat firmly locked in it, instead expressing her frustration through a very distinct, very passionate... sour frown.
...But Athren wasn't yet done with her, seemingly determined to make sure the young warrior learned this lesson! He instead proposed that she create a sphere of energy she could focus on. If detecting the passive, subtle energies of someone or something was too... advanced at this stage, perhaps she would have better luck with something more focused and close. He asked that she "visualize" the energy, see if she can "trace" where it was coming from... whatever that meant. Although her patience was starting to fail her, Salada would grunt and turn away from Athren. It was far too infuriating to keep eye-contact with the man right now, when she was failing to live up to what he seemed to see as very low expectations. With her back to the legend, Salada would do as she was beckoned to, lifting a hand and, from it's upturned palm, summoning forth a moderately sized red energy-sphere. The young warrior would lock her eyes upon the sphere and attempt to clear her mind, focusing, as a warrior would upon her prey, on the feeling of her energy... the slight tingle from up her arm, through her hand and up her fingertips into the sphere, sustaining the sphere itself. Salada wasn't BLIND to the feeling of her own energy. Like a punch or a kick, she felt the energy behind each blast, what it cost her to make it and summon it... but she had never really paid attention to the details. Things moved fast in combat and, so long as she could keep attacking, focusing on what energy FELT LIKE when it was summoned, shaped, and thrown seemed like a waste of time and attention.
...But now, she was starting to feel... something. It was vague at first, not unlike the feeling of a limb falling asleep, but from her core, she could feel a small tendril of sensation branch up and out her extended arm, reaching up invisibly before curling into a coagulated mass just above it: the sphere. If she closed her eyes, she could see it somewhat, a blurry shade of red within an outline of a person mirroring Salada's stance. Salada gritted her teeth and tried to focus harder, to bring the vague, barely present image into focus within her mind... She felt like a half-blind leper trying to see this thing but the more she focused... the more it CAME into focus... the more she could feel it... She could almost... make it... ouuuuuuu-
SUDDENLY, it all SNAPPED away as Salada's attention broke, the Saiyan stumbling forward before collapsing to one knee, breathing heavily! She huffed and puffed, her energy sphere having dissipated in her broken concentration, the woman's temper FLARING at her failure... but her heart beat FURIOUSLY with curiousity. What WAS that? was that what it was like to sense energy...? Salada would slowly rise to her feet, sweat rolling down her face as she stared down at her hands in wonder... She could feel her own ki much more... clearly now, almost like a buzz she had never noticed before and yet... felt so familiar...
"...Huh." Salada muttered, rising fully. "...Maybe I can figure this out... Later." She turned back to Athren. "...I think I see what you're getting at. I just... need some time alone to figure this out. I don't think I'm in the right headspace for it yet." She shook her head, anger flashing across her eyes thinking of those two half-breeds. "...But what if I make you a deal? After i figure out how to sense energy, I come and find you to prove it? That way, I can show you I've learned how to sense power levels?"

It didn't come as much of a surprise at the fact that Salada had been losing her patience with the task at hand and it was pretty obvious right from the start. She was a true saiyan at heart and it showed. Every ounce of her being was the same as the warrior Athren was raised to be. Of course his own path had taken him a different way and had molded him differently but he could relate. There was a lack of patience within a saiyan, the eagerness to fight and the eagerness to succeed was often something that overshadowed everything else. It was just how it was, there wasn't any arguing about it, there wasn't any fighting it. It just contributed to the pride of a saiyan and Salada had plenty. He wasn't going to insult her pride, he wasn't going to talk down to her as a child or a failure for struggling to achieve such a technique, instead he wanted to continue to encourage her. Just because she didn't succeed the first time, didn't mean she wasn't going to get it on her own and Athren knew that she would.
He remained silent as he observed her every move. Though she turned her back to him, she did take his advice and follow through with his recommendation. When she formed the energy sphere, Athren just kept observing. There wasn't much to observe with her back facing him and he wasn't going to interrupt her own process. He might've had a very loose guideline on how to do this but it was ultimately something she was going to have to feel out for herself. It wasn't as simple as just forming energy into an attack, it was something that was so much deeper than that. Though as the moments went by, Athren knew that she had a taste of it due to her reaction.
With her figure turning back to him and her focus back to him, her tone had changed and Athren knew right then and there that she had gotten a taste of the success and he couldn't help but smirk. "Take all the time you need, there isn't a rush for it though I'd recommend learning it sooner rather than later. It comes in handy. Whether dust blinds you or the environment consumes the rest of your senses.. You'll always be able to know where your opponent is so long as you can sense their energy."
With her deal coming into play, Athren arched a brow curiously. It was something he was willing to do but at the same time he knew there was a threat coming to the Earth. He wasn't sure how he was going to play this but he knew that he'd likely wind up dead sooner or later. Especially if Arctic was indeed going to come to Earth. He wasn't going to run from him. He just wanted to get his own affairs in order before going out like a saiyan would. His arms crossed against his chest once more as he had seemed relaxed, rather content. Even with the next words coming out of his mouth being so serious. It would be very obvious he was a saiyan that was going to embrace his fate, he was going to go out on his own terms and he was proud of that.
"I'll have to make you a counter offer."
He paused for a brief moment.
"Unless you've heard about it, I wouldn't expect you to know about the Changeling that's out in the universe right now. He destroyed Namek and he's roughly four times my strength. "
He paused briefly again, a eager smirk on his face.
"If he comes to Earth, I'm going to end up facing him and with the massive gap in power. I already know how it's going to end. If I manage to survive, I'd be more than happy to make that deal. The fact is though, I'm not and if I don't make it. I need to know there's still one saiyan warrior left with enough pride to take the fight to him. Train up, get stronger and hit him hard... Yeah?"

Salada turned back to face Athren as he proposed another offer, having heard her plea for a reprieve. Humiliating to admit it though it was, the young commander's jaw dropped as Athren made two significant revelations: That there was a being that COULD be more than four times stronger than himself, the Legendary Super Saiyan, AND that this being, this Changeling, this ghost that had haunted the rumors around Vegeta... had destroyed Planet Namek. Now, she wasn't especially emotionally affected by the fact some aliens died somewhere. Aliens died all the time, whether from the hands of noble Saiyan warriors, or because of their own pathetic weakness. What bothered Salada about their demise, however, was that someone found them... and someone destroyed their world outright. Even in this age where multiple Super Saiyans existed and power unheard of was spread among many, complete worldly destruction just... didn't happen. Even among her people, Saiyans had come to understand that the could make better use of worlds if they WEREN'T reduced to an asteroid field.
...The game had changed, it seemed. Someone was on a warpath, a Changeling was on a warpath. Who knew who was next? Salada looked off the side in thought, her expression twisting into a thoughtful scowl. Something big was coming... and if it could find Namek, a world all but forgotten, no doubt they were going to eventually come for the more... active worlds. Where was Zaks in all this? Surely their Queen wouldn't let this destruction stand, as softhearted as she was. She had heard nothing from her kin about this... Had the news even reached them yet? Did they even know?
"...I see." Salada muttered, cupping her chin in her hand in further introspection. What was she going to do with this information? Was she going to go to the Queen with it? Could she even afford the trip if that thing, presumably, was already on it's way? Send a message? Yeah, who and what scouter? Salada grimaced again, thinking of Opherla. She was going to KILL her if her little interference cost her empire in some way. ...But what would that matter if Vegeta was next? What would become of their Empire? Would it fall apart? Would there be enough of them to keep it knitted together? What of her squad? Were they off-world right now?
Athren must've seen Salada's face because he had something to say, something to... provide Salada. As the young commander's attention refocused fully on the man, Athren remarked how he was going to face this being and that he already knew the outcome. There was a certain grim confidence in his voice... as if the battle he planned to fight was, at the very least, one of thin odds.
He was going to die.
Salada looked at Athren oddly. Saiyans didn't often go into battle expecting to die. Sure, if a conflict went that way, they faced their fate with honor and conviction, such was their way. ...But it was practically unheard of for a Saiyan to willingly commit suicide! Even IF there was some... "noble" reason for it. What was he thinking? Surely that wasn't his COMPLETE plan for dealing with this threat. There had to be more... what was it...? Well, whatever it was, Athren didn't answer and Salada didn't push it. Instead, the man would remark that, in the event of his death, he wanted to know there was yet a Saiyan willing to continue the fight, that Salada needed to get stronger... if for no other reason than to to give the Changeling one for him. ...Salada smirked at that.
...It was such a Saiyan thing to say. Refreshing.
"Fine." Salada said before turning back around... and flying away.
EXIT!

There hadn't been much of a reaction from Salada in response to the news of the threat that was lingering in the universe and Athren couldn't necessarily blame her. It was quite a thing to process, hell even Athren was still working it all out. A power such as Arctic's had still felt unnatural. It was hard to comprehend the power behind the Changeling warrior. He was so far beyond Athren that it felt like a level that couldn't be achieved by natural means, yet Athren wasn't going to stop trying to get as strong as possible. His showdown with the Changeling had seemed certain and the best thing he could do was be prepared. He wasn't going to back down from this fight, he wasn't going to crawl away to hide. He was right here and ready for a fight. He was waiting for it.
With his final request receiving not much more than a smirk and a single word, Salada had flew off into the distance. Hopefully, she wouldn't find herself getting into anymore trouble with the locals and hopefully she'd manage to avoid Arctic if they both landed on the same planet. The woman had potential and she was a true saiyan at heart and that was something that Athren respected through and through. If Athren were to die, he hoped that Salada could deliver and do some damage to the changeling but Athren knew it would take her a long time to get to that level.
With her flying off in the distance, Athren simply observed. His posture tall and strong as he crossed his arms in front of his chest. His eyes tracking Salada as she moved across the sky. "Good luck." He mumbled rather quietly. He wanted her to succeed, even if he wasn't around to see it. She was like him to a degree, she was a Vegeta raised warrior and while Athren might've lost some of what he learned there, he still had the saiyan pride at heart. The battle to come might've been one that put the Saiyan race on the brink of extinction and every last saiyan had something to invest in the fight that was to come and every single one of them would have their own part to play in this battle. With Salada finally leaving his view, Athren himself would take off and head back in the direction of home.
