"Once again, agreed. We will have to hope the heavy hitters like you, Callion, and Liari can tie him down long enough for the rest of us to gather the energy to damage him. That is the only path I can see to victory without outside intervention." ABAS said. As he saw it, the role of fighters like himself, Liek, or Opherla was to purely support their powerhouses. If Arctic was as strong as Callion claimed, there would be no point in directly engaging the Changeling. Not only would he probably just ignore their attacks, but their presence could hinder the ongoing battle. If they had time to charge their strongest attacks, however, perhaps they could do something.
ABAS gave his best approximation at a shrug at Athren's worries of the Dragon Ball's misuse. It was a valid point from the perspective of a defender of Earth he supposed. However, ABAS personally found such thinking reductive. "I agree that a responsible few should take charge of the orbs and make sure that the wishes granted are not stupid or malicious. Other than that however, who are we to judge the worth of a wish? If the warrior goes through all the trouble of collecting the orbs, and nobody cares enough to stop them, why shouldn't they have their wish granted?" He asked, thinking of his secret wish.
Would Athren call such a wish not relevant? It was, after all, purely selfish and had the potential to lose Earth a defender. He of course was under no illusions that he could have that wish granted right now. Even if he possessed the majority of the balls, the two Athren held made his desires nothing more than a pipe dream. If Zaks with all of her power and fury couldn't claim them, nothing short of Liari or Callion could. Once again, Athren stood firmly between ABAS and salvation, and the bio-android couldn't help but hate the man a little more for it. Regardless of whether the man knew it or not.
The decision about what to do with the last Dragon Ball was truly a gamble. On the one hand, simply leaving it ran the risk of Arctic having a way of detecting it. ABAS had heard whispers of a Dragon Ball detector hitting the underground markets, as the hysteria of Arctic's approach hit a fever pitch. If Earth technology could develop such a device, he did not doubt that the engineers of Frost could as well. "If Arctic has a method of sensing which fighters have Dragon Balls, then it is logical to assume he will have a method of sensing them on their own. I think the idea of Arctic finding one uncontested is perhaps worse than him ripping through a fighter for it. The latter will at least stall him for a few critical seconds." ABAS said contemplatively. It all came down to the unknowns in the end. Who Arctic would target first. How quickly Earth's defenders could rally in response. And, of course, whether or not Arctic tried to blitz for the Dragon Balls.
"I will see what I can do to locate the last ball. If I tap the Blacksite quietly enough, I should be able to at least get an idea of its general location." After all, the Blacksite had its fingers in practically every slice of the governmental pie. If there was even a whisper of a human encountering a yellow, star-filled ball, they would know about it.
Athren then seemed to disagree with his strategy of letting the Sayians stay dead, putting his faith in the fact that the Sayians would simply refuse to listen to her. "While you might be correct, Zaks is the Queen for a reason after all. If she had no way of influencing popular opinion, then they would have never swapped her for Braccus in the first place. I wouldn't be surprised if she uses the results of her own alliance-breaking to turn the Sayians against us. Leaving them dead is a more sure-fire way of neutering her offensive. Many of them would die in the potential invasion of Earth anyways." He said callously. If Athren wanted to play nice and keep the Sayians alive, then that simply meant he would be sacrificing the lives of Earthlings in return. It was that simple.
As the battle rejoined, Athren continued to dominate their little contest. ABAS' most powerful attack in terms of raw damage output, the True Dodonpa, merely scorched the Sayian's shoulder. It hurt him, that much ABAS knew, but it was hardly the telling blow he wanted.
As such, Athren's counter-assault brutalized the bio-android. Expecting Athren to fall back or at least show pain, ABAS was caught unprepared as a fist smashed against his guard like a falling star! The bio-android parried the with a quick strike of his own, but nearly took a right round-house to the face for his troubles! Athren was intent on overwhelming him, and quickly at that. Once again, the damage healed away rapidly, but it was noticeably slower this time. He hadn't quite recovered enough ki from his earlier attack, and as such it was much harder to stoke the creation of new bio-mass.
However, ABAS knew time was on his side. Athren was already slightly winded and wounded from his short brawl with Zaks. If he waited the Sayian out, and gave himself time to replenish his drained ki reserves, he could take the upper hand....

While hearing Liari's name wasn't something that was overly surprising, he now had confirmation that she was alive. Athren didn't know what happened at the climax of their battle but it had seemed as if she had been defeated and dead. Her energy at the time was no longer and all the evidence he could find had pointed to one conclusion. She had died that day. While her name wasn't that surprising due to one simple fact, he had sensed her power level roaming the Earth again but it was no longer overly concerning. She hadn't been rampaging, she hadn't been attacking or destroying cities, she had been left to her own accord and that accord had seemed to be much different than it was prior. "So, I wasn't going crazy.. Huh? Liari's back? Well, I wouldn't put my confidence in her to protect the Planet but she may be of use somehow. We'll have to see how that one plays out." Of course, Athren didn't see a way that Liari would actually help the Earth out intentionally. He wasn't going to wager that she'd be on their side for even a moment but there may have been a place for her in this fight to benefit them in some way.
As far as the use of the Dragon Balls went, ABAS had a very valid question in regards of judging the worth of a wish. It wasn't something Athren could argue with, he wasn't qualified to make those choices, nor did he want to hold anybody back from making their wish. He had used them in the past, he had a glimpse of what they could actually do. "I wouldn't say they'd need to be safe guarded to that level constantly, with Arctic sure.. with the general population? I don't think it'd be much of anything to worry about. Nor am I suggesting monitoring the wishes made. I just believe that if an individual or even a planet relies on the Dragon Balls to solve or prevent any problems frequently, the use of the Dragon Balls may no longer be seen as significant and the wishes that those parties make would begin to diminish in their value."
The thought was simple, if the Dragon Balls were used more frequently there was a risk that the user would begin to use them for everything. They wouldn't just be problem solvers but instead become something used for laughs. While the power of the wishes was unknown to Athren, he actually feared them becoming used for lesser important things. Wishing to vote in a certain person in political power, wishing to bend current events to fit somebody's personal needs. It was a slope that would remain and if one were to slide down it, who knew exactly how the Dragon Balls could be used.
"Though, that isn't anything to worry about currently and it may not be something that ever came to pass. Just a thought, really." When ABAS went on about Arctic and finding the Dragon Balls, Athren couldn't help but shrug his shoulders. "I've got a device that locates the Dragon Balls and if Arctic has something like that, it wouldn't take him long to track down them down. If he finds them with a fighter, it may buy us a little bit of time but if he finds one alone, we'd have an extra number when it mattered the most. Either way, none of those options are great." Athren couldn't help but shrug his shoulders lightly. He spoke as if he'd be in the numbers but he was preparing to face Arctic alone and go out like a saiyan. This was partial due to the fact that the saiyan race would be wiped out without a defense and he wanted one saiyan to stand their ground and display saiyan pride. If he was going to die, he was going to set the terms and go out his own way.
With the topic of Zaks continuing, Athren simply shrugged once more. There really wasn't much else to say. He didn't believe that the saiyans deserved their deaths like that, nor did they deserve to stay dead and the aftermath of their restoration was really just up to the next leader. "Can't say you're wrong but an attack on Earth could be avoided, all it would take is new leadership." Of course, while it sounded that simple. It really wasn't. Athren knew that Zak's must've forced the throne from Braccus and if it was a one on one fight, there was some honor and respect to it and the people would follow the power. It didn't mean they respected or liked her. It was something that could very well be challenged by somebody else.
With the focus on the fight though, Athren's heavy pressure was being countered by ABAS' blocking abilities. Though he was still taking heavy damage. It was just a matter of time until ABAS caved and his defenses broke completely. All Athren had to do was keep it up for now and that's exactly what he was planning to do.
Pressing off his right foot he closed the gap again, this time he brought around his right leg and aimed it at ABAS' head, He'd then pivot in the air and bring his left leg around to thrust it towards ABAS' chest. As a final attack, Athren would bring his right hand up and launch a Ki blast direction at the center of mass on the bug-mans body. Of course, none of these were meant to be fatal nor do any serious amount of damage. Athren was actually having quite a bit of fun with this and ABAS was quite skilled. Regardless of the power level difference, if ABAS were to get stronger he would be a very valuable asset to Earth's defense. While Athren was still struggling to believe that the failsafes would work, ABAS was currently proving Athren's previous train of thought wrong. Was it just a matter of time until that changed?

This time around, there wasn't much ABAS could do in defense of Athren's barrage of attacks. Each and every one of Athren's attacks had slipped through ABAS' defenses and collide with the bio-android hard. His right foot had smacked against ABAS' Jaw, his left kick had landed and met its mark right in his chest and the final Ki blast had managed to blast him too. This had left ABAS' with a wide open angle for a powerful attack that would likely end this little spar. Now Athren still wasn't aiming to kill his opponent but he was trying to blow off steam and maybe he was about to take it a little bit too far but he knew that he was in control of his power and ABAS would survive regardless. If anything, this would simply prepare ABAS for the future fights to come. He was going to need to experience an attack of such power, he'd need to get used to it, he'd need to dig deep and push through the pain and keep on fighting. This was going to be a lesson for ABAS, not only about what kind of hits he could take but what could he push through in order to keep on going.
"It almost looks like you're struggling to keep up now!" Athren said with a smirk on his face as he backed off ever so slightly, he went into a backwards leap and his feet hit the ground as he slid to a stop. This was going to be an attack to potentially end this thing. He was going to really make sure ABAS knew what it meant to be in a fight.
As soon as Athren came to a full stop, he pushed himself forward and rushed ABAS. Closing the distance quickly Athren cocked back his right fist and prepared to launch his devastating punch. He was going to use his Nova Punch technique against ABAS but he was going to monitor the power output to make sure that it wouldn't kill the bio-android. His intentions weren't to do any real damage but simply bring this thing close to a conclusion. In a way, he couldn't help but hope that ABAS had a way to counter this technique as he wanted this fight to go on a little bit longer but that was going to be in ABAS' hands now. Whether or not he could handle it was going to be something that Athren was going to find out quick because now that the gap was closed, he was ready to unleash his technique. With his fist glowing with his dark red Ki, Athren launched his fist forward towards ABAS and aimed for the center of mass. His Nova Punch technique being unleashed towards the Bio Android.
Whether or not this would be the conclusion to the fight, Athren was glad that ABAS had arrived. He was grateful that he came to help protect the village and even more grateful that he was here to have this little spar. After Zak's had put him in a mood to fight, he really needed this to blow off some steam and let it all out. He had been training extensively in preparation for Arctic's arrival and hadn't really had a chance to spar with anybody. He needed this more than he knew and he was extremely grateful for it.
Whether or not it would be over, didn't really matter for he felt as if he managed to get it out of his system. It was a fight to calm him down and take off the edge. He had been preparing for Arctic for weeks now and hadn't given himself a chance to loosen up, or relax. His primary focus was on getting strong enough to put up a good fight and he had forgotten to focus on anything else. With this spar, maybe Athren wouldn't be so eager to get into the fight with Arctic and his choices would be better, providing Earth a better chance for success.
While most fighters knew that the fight with Arctic was going to be a very difficult one and nearly hopeless, the warriors of Earth would have a chance with planning, coordination and a little bit of luck. It was going to take the combined strength of almost everybody to overcome the threat and come out on top. Of course, most fighters weren't going to be on the same page. Athren was well aware that fighting him one on one wasn't going to end well, it would likely result in a much weaker defense on Earth but that's just the way he wanted to go out. He wanted to fight Arctic alone, proving that there was at least one saiyan in this universe who held onto his pride, that would fight to the very end and show what a saiyan was truly capable of. While he wanted the Earth safe, he also wanted to choose his own destiny. He knew that he couldn't have it both ways.
It was going to be one way or the other, he was either going to rally with the Earth's defenders or go out in his own way, on his own terms. He knew that there wasn't much time left until the decision would be forced upon him rapidly, but he was more than willing to jump into that fight. With any luck, this little spar would've laid a foundation to help him make the right decision. The Dragon Balls weren't going to be something he could worry about. While he had held onto two of them, a majority weren't his responsibility. If he were to fall in combat, Arctic would only have two. He'd still need to cut through a handful of warriors in order to get the rest. Whether Athren's decision would be the best for Earth or best for him were yet to be decided, but no matter what decision he made. He was going to go out a warrior.

With Athren launching his Nova Punch towards ABAS, he had expected the Bio-Android to attempt to dodge or even block it to some degree. Up until this point, ABAS had been doing fine and handled Athren's output rather nicely even with the power level difference between him. It was evident to Athren that the agent who once approached him hadn't been lying about ABAS in the slightest. Not only was he a capable fighter but he had the potential to protect the planet and it was evident that he was trying to do that exact thing. Hell, he had even shown up here to Athren's village once more, a place where he had once been turned away due to the nature of his DNA, yet he was still willing to do the right thing. Whether or not it was his programming and the fail safes that had forced him to be here or not was something that was questionable but regardless of the fact of it all, ABAS had earned Athren's respect here. He had put himself between his people and a much stronger threat. There wasn't a chance that ABAS could hold up to once of Zak's attacks and he couldn't hold his own against her little minions either. He made himself completely vulnerable, put himself in a position to die to protect the innocent that he didn't even know. It was a respect worthy thing to do, especially because they were Athren's people. How could he ignore that? He had no other choice but to respect it, even if he still refused to trust ABAS completely.
During this little spar though, ABAS had proven himself to be something significant in terms of a warrior. The agent that had approached with ABAS those few months ago had made it seem like ABAS wasn't much of a talented fighter at that point and that he needed guidance. Whether or not he had gotten some lessons elsewhere was another subject of debate but he was displaying quite unique techniques and methods of dealing with oncoming attacks. Athren's power had been significant and ABAS didn't display much or any fear, he was simply rolling with the punches and acting accordingly. He was handling the situation exactly like Athren would. He was doing it logically, not giving into any sort of emotion and looking to get through it the smartest way possible.
There was something else about ABAS that had thrown Athren off though and that was the fact that the two of them had very similar thoughts and outlooks on the situation about Arctic. It was oddly strange, to the point that Athren couldn't help but wonder if some of his own DNA had managed to be involved in the creation of ABAS. If they had managed to get some of Liari's DNA, it was possible it was out of the battle of south city and if that was the case, Athren's DNA was likely there too. This was something Athren wasn't going to address here but it was something that was going to remain in his mind. After all, he was in the middle of a spar that he assumed was going to go on just a little bit longer.
With Athren pressing his attack on ABAS and aiming his Nova Punch at the center of mass, he had rapidly closed the distance and to his surprise his fist collided with ABAS' chest, he knew the impact would've hurt ABAS plenty but Athren made sure that this blow wouldn't have been fatal. It just would've been more than enough to back ABAS into a corner and potentially end the fight. Of course the bio-android could've toughed it out and continued to fight but that was unlikely given their power level difference. ABAS had slid back, the damage was obvious and it likely would've been tough for him to continue. This is where Athren would've pulled plug, he would've stopped the battle right then and there and saved ABAS from any more damage. He didn't want the bio-android to think that this fight was getting to be for real. This was just a friendly battle after all.
It was at this point that Athren would've stood himself up straight and tall and glared over at ABAS. "I think this is where we conclude this thing, I don't know how much more you can handle but there isn't any use putting anymore strain on yourself."
Athren paused a moment as he gave ABAS a slight smile. He was grateful for this little spar, not only did it manage to take the edge off from the confrontation with the Queen but it also pumped him up for the fight that was to come. He knew that he wasn't a match for Arctic but this had amplified his craving for that fight. After all, what was a saiyan warrior that wouldn't take on a superior opponent? It was what it was all about, facing down stronger opponents to test yourself, to see if you can pull through. Athren would put himself to that test, no matter the end that was awaiting him.
Now that Athren had decided to conclude the fight, he'd turn and face his house. He'd raise a hand and use his magic materialization to replace the door that he had previously punched through earlier. Hopefully, he wouldn't be getting any more unwanted visitors, though this did give him an idea. He'd ship out his village on his ship for safety until the threat was dealt with or until they found somewhere else to live. It wasn't a great option but it might've been the only one. As he was walking away, he couldn't help but say one final thing. After all, they were likely to be fighting side by side in the future. "I'll see you around." For now, ABAS had proved that he was an ally to the Earth and that he'd put his own life at risk to protect the people. With Arctic on the horizon, it was likely it'd be sooner rather than later.
