Liari hung suspended in a cube of red fluid, the liquid pulling at her body as if it were molasses... yet FLOWED about her as if it were water! Each day, the creature... JANEMBA, as it had named itself, had reminded her of the importance of this technique he was teaching her, ensuring that, on NO uncertain terms, the majin understood the consequences of failure. Janemba, no matter how hard Liari kicked or screamed, would throw her into one of these cages, these pockets of nonsensical, torturous reality, and leave her there until she learned her lesson... Literally. She had escaped from three of them now, each one... less substantial than the last. She found it SO MUCH EASIER to escape solid crystal, stone, metal, so much easier to warp through because the substance didn't shift! She didn't have to compensate for the dimensional drifts, the twisting nethers of the warping magical energies, the wild chaotic personalities Janemba GAVE to the dimensions he shattered! It was almost like... he was training her.
All this time, Liari had simply assumed that the beast took pleasure in her pain, content on making her SCREAM and beg for mercy! The demon had said NOTHING to her about his intentions, about what he was doing to her or why. When he spoke to her at ALL (and that wasn't often at the BEST of times), he looked down upon her like some mongrel dog, a toy he was content to rough-up for his amusement! ...And he was right... about what he had said before: There really WAS nowhere she could go that he could not find her. Every time she escaped from her dimensional prison, the demon would be RIGHT THERE in the next instant, fading into existence from cubic fragments, only to GRAB her by her head and throw her in a new cage!
...Even when all of her energy was expended and black consumed her vision... the cold claw of Janemba's hand would REACH OUT AND THROTTLE HER BRAIN! His laughter would DRILL into her ears with heartless cruelty, stabbing into her head and mixing her thoughts all up inside! It grew louder... and louder... and LOUDER until she could no longer, think, no longer BREATH, no LONGER- ...And then she would snap awake... and here she was again, in the cage. Sleep had become a luxury of the living and the blessed in the Afterlife, something Janemba wouldn't afford his "students." Liari had found herself able to push herself FAR HARDER than she had remembered this body of hers were capable of, struggling against the cage, expending her ki, SCREAMING... well-on for days at a time. She wondered if this was a product of the form Janemba gave her... or something to do with the afterlife as a whole... Regardless, she had to get out of here. She HAD TO. The poor majin was starting to grow claustrophobic, FEARFUL of the prisons after each one she was tossed into... and what was worse... was that they were as infinite as they were finite. From the few seconds Liari could see before Janemba threw her in it, this cage looked like nothing more than an asymmetrical prism he had made out of red-water, the shape no larger than five or six feet tall. When Liari was inside, though... She could see outside through the rippling current and no matter HOW FAR she pulled or swam towards what she thought was the surface, it all seemed to slip farther away! She couldn't escape it conventionally... She couldn't even approach the edge of her CELL conventionally! The only hope she had... was that strange cubic move Janemba had displayed, popping IN and OUT of a place in space just as he had... She had managed it with her previous prisons, the teleportation almost acting like a portal only you entered it fragments at a time! True, ultimately, your body was still connected by magic and would FULLY reassemble after exiting the portal, but in those few half-seconds, you felt your whole being, mind, and spirit would come apart entirely, relying on the magic of the spell to bring you back in some kind of functional order!
...This prison was different... The others were solid, static structures that were easy enough to open a portal within! Even if Liari couldn't move, she could still project her ki and magical energy, allowing it to consolidate in front of her in the form of an invisible gateway, a portal not unlike her... "master's" that allowed her to slip out! It was like picking a lock, almost. Once you knew how to finagle each magical tumbler in the lock, you could pull something together to escape! This prison... it was almost like a maelstrom of magic, almost IMPOSSIBLE to find an opening, ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY WAY TO BRING HER KI TOGETHER! THE moment she pulled it out of herself, it was just SWEPT AWAY into the syrupy current, siphoned off to fuel its own momentum like some kind of drain! Doing it the conventional way wasn't going to help her... She couldn't! ALl that would accomplish was her losing the last drops of her energy to this ACCURSED prison and then... the screaming BLACK would invade her mind again! No... She needed to try something else... Instead of trying to build a static hole out of the prison as she had done with the more static prisons, Liari instead... tried to build one around herself. She envisioned it like a bubble, distorting in time with the pull of the thick, ripping tides to keep the majin safely in place! Slowly, Liari would begin to fill the bubble with magic, slowly expanding its borders so that they edged near the end of the dimensional prison... and then expanded OUT OF IT! Seeing her chance, Liari's eyes SNAPPED open, seeing where she could amass her energy! Gathering her magic into a small space around her, the dimensional portal amassed, its twisted hum filling the majin's ears as she zipped out of the dimesion... landing on her hands and knees on the crystalline floor below! Liari gasped and hacked for air, not even having realized how FULL of the liquid they had been! She sputtered and coughed, emptying her chest of the thick, red fluid... only to see a shadow suddenly fall over her being... Quivering as that twisted, boundless, WARPING ENERGY enveloped her senses, Liari looked up and saw the glowing yellow eyes of her.... "master" staring down at her, a wide, sharp-toothed grin cutting across his scarlet face.
"...Interesting. Even... he didn't escape that prison on his own... Perhaps you ARE learning." Janemba muttered, reaching down and GRABBING Liari's head again. She swung at the demon weakly, her fists not even reaching his face. The Demon only smirked. "...And you STILL have fight in you. Commendable. You are ready for the final part of this lesson." ...He then dropped the majin like a piece of trash, the poor little girl WHACKING her chin on the ground on the way down. "...Go then. Have your rest... You will need it for the final part... I will make these previous trials look like CHILDS PLAY to this one!" Janemba laughed darkly before disappearing into cubes... and all Liari could do was curl up on the floor... and fall into unconsciousness.
