Appearance
Kari does not particularly stand out from the crowd with her unassuming appearance and general clothing, appearing nothing more than your typical Earthling. Her unkempt hair takes on a shade of light pink and blonde, layered on top of each other to assume the color of stripes and often worn short, never past the neck. Typically her blue eyes are hidden behind thick-rimmed glasses, although there are a few cases where she may choose to abandon such a look in favor of contacts when convenient. Kari's complexion is primarily a light pink although strays more towards the pale side of the spectrum. Most notably, she does tend to be shorter than most Earthlings her age and hold a lithe build.
Kari's defining feature is the fact that she is confined to a wheelchair. Unable to walk or even stand anymore, her legs have begun to suffer from muscle atrophy and thus are slimmer than her upper body. Her body also holds a few fresh scars, obtained from the same incident that crippled her, including a long scar on her back and various other ones across her limbs. To hide these remnants, Kari typically prefers wearing baggy, long-sleeved clothing such as sweaters or jeans to hide them from view.
Custom Transformation:
No starting transformation
Sheer Will x22 - 150,000
Kari's physical form begins to slowly break down, starting with the existence of her red blood turning pure black. Because of this all the veins in her body show as black lines upon her skin and her eyes become bloodshot, the blue iris turning bright yellow.
Hellraiser x33 - 225,000
Kari's form continues to break down, starting with her skin. Most of her pale skin turn pitch black, with several silver stripes going across her body in almost a tattoo-like fashion almost akin to a chameleon’s stripes. Her eyes slowly begin to turn silver.
Tenebrous Avatar x44 - 350,000
No longer will Kari be bound to a wheelchair as the form of a shadow is limitless. Because of this, Kari can temporarily regain the use of her legs. Physically, Kari continues to become less humanoid and more of a creature of a shadow. Her form is constantly shifting and her body is pitch black aside from these silver stripes across her body, a curly tail appears upon her back, and her eyes are completely yellow.
Dark Empress x55 - 500,000
With her physical form completely burned away, Kari has completely become a creature of the shadows. She does have a rough approximation of a form although it is not very clear, and can only be described as a humanoid. Shadowy wings stretch across her back, with her arms and legs becoming more bestial and clawed.
Yin and Yang x87 - 750,000
A lost form which brings about harmony between her demon and human, thus allowing her to keep her physical form even in spite of all the powerful magic in her system. Out of all her transformations, Kari is able to keep her human form when utilizing such dramatic power, although she is free to call in these traits at will. Most importantly, with god ki in her body, Kari is finally able to break through her mental and physical barriers. Such power finally restores her spine, returning her motor function this time for good.

Personality
Kari is known to be an amiable person, outspoken and aiming to befriend and please others rather than speaking upon her mind due to her disdain of verbal or physical confrontation unless necessary. As a result, she typically does not find herself getting angry at others very other, although generally annoyed more often than not. In many cases, Kari can be described as socially awkward, finding it difficult to under the social cues of others and often times her mind jumps to conclusions rather than taking the time to analyze their reaction instead. Due to this, she has since become easily flustered and embarrassed, although never one to truly apologize but rather turn around and go the opposite direction.
Through all the events she had gone through in her life, Kari has since grown to be more of a realist. While still emotionally guided, she does understand the reality of life and has learned to not underestimate it. Due to this, she has grown wary and cautious about what actions she may take, and how she will approach such a manner. Yet, at the same time, there is still a part of her which refuses to fully let go of her dreams, even as unrealistic or improbable as they seem. Her experience may have even made her more intelligent than she had used to be, both academically and by understanding the larger picture. While she may occasionally jump to conclusions, these are primarily in social situations as she does take the time to analyze and understand the situation that is currently at hand.
Ultimately, Kari has since understood and accepted that she is a selfish individual. Many of her acts are done in terms of self-gratification rather than for the greater good and in many cases she prefers to prioritize her own life and duties over those of others. However, by no means would she ever consider herself as arrogant or overconfident as Kari also has a rather low self-esteem and tends to underestimate her abilities. As a result, she is no stranger to accepting pity or help, taking the chance to do so whenever offered and generally returning the thanks in the process. However, even so she does remain courteous, not wishing to burden others with her own issues. This includes her own emotions along with many issues she may be stuck with. While she may accept help when it is offered, Kari will never ask for it and as a result remains independent.

History
Kari's relationships with both of her parents have always been complicated. For most of her life, she was raised by her father. Due to the fact that he was only barely making ends meet to support their life, he would often have to work day and night shift just to support their lifestyle. Her mother was not completely out of her life, and just would only periodically come to visit her on important days such as major holidays and her birthdays. While she was told it was due to the fact her mother often had important business trips, it still did little to quell the immense sense of loneliness she faced as a child.
Her isolation would even affect her at school and thus she was generally too awkward to speak to anyone. While Kari did have a few friends, they were never truly close to her. Her only solace was the shows that played on her television, all the Saturday morning cartoons and the various other programs that played throughout the afternoons. On them portrayed the characters that she had always wanted to be, but never found herself able to mimic. For quite some time, Kari became a shut in, worsening her social life but ironically enough it was also television which had taught her to open up.
For quite some time she had wanted to be the heroes that she seen on television yet never got the chance. it was an ad for a local martial arts class which had prompted her to beg her father to let her enroll. Wanting her to go out more and interact with more children her age, he agreed and thus enrolled her at the same dojo. While initially awkward, both socially and physically, Kari would eventually find herself improving in both aspects. While she did overall remain quite socially awkward, she would make some lifelong friends and had spent day and night honing her skills until it was through her sheer determination, dedication and talent which would make her the best fighter within her dojo by the time she went to high school.
It was within her teenage years when her mother would reveal the truth to her, telling her that she was actually part demon. Contrary to what she was told her entire life, her mother was actually from hell and the truth behind her constant disappearance was the fact that she was from a clan of high class demons and would frequently need to go back to her realm as a result. As Kari was coming to age, she would need to learn how to control her new powers, and it was only due to this fact which her mother agreed to stay for longer periods of time. While still rather disgruntled by her behavior, she would reluctantly accept her training.
Under her mother's watchful eye, Kari's skills flourished as she was introduced to the world of ki and magic. While many of her mother's lessons used questionable tactics at best, she would reluctantly go through. Her hobby as a martial artist paid off, giving her an advantage as she learned ki especially, although magic was another story. It was through her training where Kari realized that she truly could live out her dream as a hero and thus wanted to take advantage of this immediately.
Throughout her years as a college student, she would often act as a vigilante, going out to stop minor crime and overall living out her childhood fantasy as a hero. It would also further hone in her abilities, allowing her to understand the true extent of her strength and powers on a daily basis. While it was difficult balancing a double life while also trying to escape the watchful eye of the authorities, it was the gratitude and the kindness from those she helped that ultimately made it all worth it. However, as she was nearing the end of her college years and transitioning into a young adult, it became clear that such a childish dream would eventually have to be abandoned and thus intended to retire from her unofficial position as a neighborhood hero before she would graduate.
On what was supposed to be her final patrol, Kari had encountered a creature that had terrorized her town. It was a being by the name of Kamae, who had arrived at her town and would face up against anyone who was strong. Kari, being the only person powerful enough to face him, tried and failed. In the process, she had sustained severe injuries and was nearly killed, although by some twisted stroke of luck he would keep her alive, challenging her to go up against him again when she was stronger.
By then, the damage had already been done. Among her list of injures was permanent spine damage, which would leave her paralyzed from the waist down. The treatments to fix it were out of the question, either too obscenely expensive to afford or impossible seeing as mechanical implants would directly interfere with her powers. No matter the options they tried to explore, it all seemed futile.
Falling into deep despair, Kari was despondent for many months, feeling trapped in her own body. However, as the reports of the demon terrorizing towns would continue to grow, something reawakened slowly inside of her Even if she was in this state, doing something was better than doing nothing. Even if she didn't physically seem to be fit the bill anymore, she had to push forth. For now, it was just a matter of getting used to her new way of life and relearning how to fight. After all, there were innocent lives still at stake. She just had to redeem herself after her failure.

“You have to go out and do something.” The sudden touch on her shoulder made her flinch. Even if the voice was comforting his words sent a shiver down her spine. “It’s a beautiful day. The doctor says the sun will help speed up your recovery.”
And do what? Even when all of her wounds finally healed, it wasn’t like it mattered anyways. Her life was over. As much as Kari appreciated the attempts to reach out, it just didn’t seem worth it.
Still, she had long since passed the moments when she would snap back at her parents. It wasn’t as if they deserved it, to begin with. They were just trying to help. At the very least she can grit her teeth and force herself to please them. “I know,” she responded to her father, hands moving to push against the wheels of her chair in an effort to turn out. She couldn’t help but grimace as the vehicle caught itself on the leg of the desk, struggling to push herself free without breaking any more of her furniture with her excessive strength. It was funny how strong she was yet so weak at the same time.
Fortunately, a gentle hand grabbed at the handles, freeing her from the prison that was her own room. If only it was that easy to escape the shackles of her body. “Thanks,” she muttered as she began to push herself out of her room. “I think I’ll go get some fresh air.”
“Do you want me to come with you, honey?”
“I’m good dad.” She said, pausing briefly having a fight with the door. And they said that it would one day get easier. She dared not to turn back, afraid of seeing his look of pity. Kari couldn't stand seeing it, not without breaking down herself. She had to save face somehow.
Thankfully, they had always lived on the first floor of the apartment, making maneuvering around so much easier than it would be otherwise, especially seeing as there was no elevator in the building. While she didn’t realize it before, Kari now knew how unfriendly the world was to her now that she could no longer move freely on her own.
At the very least, some things never changed. The cool autumn air blowing through her air and the incessant beeping of the cars outside her apartment were familiar acquaintances in this brand-new world for her. It was comforting when everything seemed to change to appear so different and terrifying.
Her body seemed to move on her own, thoughts preoccupied with the same troubles that had plagued her since the day she was discharged from the hospital. Kari lost track of how long she had been traveling, moving around without a set destination in her mind. As such, when her mind finally returned to reality, she froze up completely.
It was here. The same park where she had the fight with that creature. The same park where she lost everything.
Why did she come back here? Her body had just moved on its own, thoughts consumed by the memories of the night. It felt like something was constricting her chest, making it difficult to breathe. She placed a hand, trying to steadily calm herself. Kari hadn’t even gotten that deep yet. Not to the actual site where the fight happened, just the proximity. Yet the familiar sights were threatening, feeling as if they had a chokehold on her and making it impossible to breathe.
All she could hear was her own heartbeat, overwhelming and overpowering everything else. Desperately, she wanted to focus on something else. Anything! But all she could hear was the beating of her own heart and her own screams as she heard the sickening crack of her bones. And then….
It was over.
All that remained was her heartbeat. Vaguely, she registered there was something out. Like an echo at the end of the tunnel, desperately trying to get her attention. It didn’t matter though, all of it was drowned out by the sound of her own heartbeat. Only second was her own breath, seemingly racing against her breath for her attention.
Even though there was nothing wrong with her vision, Kari was only barely aware of what was going on. The world was a blur, shifting around her, unsure of whether it was the fact that her head was pounding or someone was moving her. Not that it mattered. None of it did. Kari has been and always will be a prisoner in her own body.
She knew that even when the panic ended, it was temporary. It would always continue. Her entire life was an endless reminder as to how she failed and there was nothing she could do about it. As much as she hated to admit it, this was her reality. There were people out there that would die because she failed to save them. There was just no way to escape this living hell she was trapped in.
