In the short time that Athren and his company had been on the Planet Earth, the half breed saiyan had spent quite a lot of time scouting the terrain from all the ends of the Earth, this trip wasn't just going to be about business even if it seemed like every bit of exploration and research could be connected to it. Of course there was the fact that he was observing what kind of a potential threat the Earthlings could be to his mission, but he was also just taking his time to enjoy the planet. He hadn't seen anything like it before, the bright beautiful colors, the oceans, the lakes, the forests and even the mountains all had things that had caught his attention, though so far there was one place that stood out, one place that he actually liked going for purposes that were just for him. Whether it be to relax and just lay around or just get a simple workout in, some of the highest points of Mount Paozu where the river had run through had just done it for him. That was his spot, that was where he found peace in all of this mess. He found himself spending time with his oldest, his boy Celric. He was only eight years old but believed himself to be a superior fighter than most, even though he lacked the skill, form, the strategy, just about everything a good fighter needed to succeed. He fought in a raw, offensive based style that left him open for attacks and Athren was trying to work that out of him, but while he had been, other situations had been developing in the area. Mount Paozu wasn't too far from where they had hidden the ship and set up a camp for the numbers of the Crimson Nova, they had capsule houses, plenty of food, water and activities for their downtime but there had been one member of the faction without an assignment who didn't want to just sit by and idle for the day, a young six year old with a mixture of saiyan and demon blood had decided upon herself to go out and spend time with her brother and father, even if she was told to stay put with Ukare for the day. She didn't go initially because she had absolutely no passion for fighting, she didn't even wish to learn how to fly, her interests were in her creativity and reading about all the races, culture and history of the universe. The typical saiyan passion for fighting, had seemed to fall behind and the more demonic traits of intelligence, persuasion and manipulation seemed to be more her style, though she was still rather innocent in it all. Cress, but imagine her being six. She had found herself walking through the woods all alone, the sounds of the flowing water getting closer and closer with every tiny little step of her foot. Though she couldn't sense ki yet, she had known where her father liked to idle around. As she drew closer, she began jumping farther distances to get to her destination faster and it didn't take long for her to get to the bottom of the mountain, it was the first climb she'd have to make to get to the next level and there were a few more after that. Though she was terrified of heights, she had done it a few times before and felt rather confident in her abilities. She began making the climb, she had taken her sweet time to make sure not to fall. One hand, followed by one foot at a time. All had been going rather well as a large shadow from overhead had circled around her, she had made it to the first landing, and then the second, but as she was climbing the third part of it is where it had all gone bad. In one swift motion a large monster had zipped near her with enough force for the wind itself to knock loose her grip and cause the young girl to release the very rocks she was holding onto for dear life. Letting out a loud scream, her power level flared up in her state of panic, though the fall wouldn't have killed her and she had the power to get out of danger, she was simple just not prepared mentally to do so. She braced for the impact of the solid ground, the she had hoped by some miracle she'd fall into the river that was fed by the waterfall near her, but she would never make it to the ground. The creature had swooshed around rapidly, catching the girl in it's talon's before heading off towards it's nest to feed it's young fresh, alive meat. "Somebody help!" She screamed loudly, her voice echoing along the mountains. Even though it wasn't a massive shift in power, Athren had immediately sensed the spike in his daughter, she had made him very aware that she was rather close to him and that something wasn't right. He had gone from using his palms to stopping his sons very aggressive barrages of constant fists, to gripping his wrists and tossing him aside to the ground. "Go back to the camp, I'll catch up with you later." He said as he immediately blasted off before Celric could even realize that he had been on the ground. "Oww dad." He ruffled his hair gently as he scratched his head, watching his dad take off in such a rush. Of course Celric wasn't going to listen to instructions either, he'd begin leaping far distances to give his father a loose tail, he didn't want to get caught or he'd be in trouble! Athren on the other hand, he only had one goal in mind. He needed to close the distance and he needed to make sure Cress was okay, he was confident he'd make it in time, but somebody would get there even faster.

It was just another day of training for Zerori, out of the way of prying eyes and questioning gazes. Before, when she’d met with the boy that had jumped from the waterfall, she imagined that would be the one and only day she’d have to contend with people on what she had hoped would be a day all to herself. At the very least, she’d gotten a good few hours of training in with her fledgling abilities.
It had been only a year ago since the day Zerori had discovered a rather unique ability she’d never seen before. It had made itself known during one of the worst busts she’d ever had to experience. Another Saiyan, one could say a rival of hers, had been hired to protect a shipment - it was a simple job for him and she’d been the opposition of the night since she was the one targeting said shipment. That night, expecting only human resistance… Zerori had nearly lost her life to a veteran looking for some easy cash. It was only through the instinct of self preservation that Zerori had discovered the dark power of what made her different. Of what had made her more than just a Saiyan.
Since that day, Zerori had done everything she could to understand and recreate that power and, to an extent, she was successful. The only issue was that it took feeling certain things and that took a LOT out of her.
Outstretched before her, handling a boulder that was more than four times her size, the hybrid woman snarled in fierce concentration as the vectors of her Shadow Claws held tightly to the boulder suspended above the ground - albeit shaking violently from the strain. In a matter of minutes, a new record, the arms would dissipate into nothing and leave Zerori panting as if she’d run a marathon for hours, “F-Fuck… only… a little longer this… time, but still-” She scoffed, smirking valiantly, “-I’m fucking getting it.” And she couldn’t be happier with her progress.
It was at this moment, merely minutes after she’d dropped the boulder, that the cry of what sounded like a young girl would catch her attention. The pulse of an energy just after that told her exactly where said young girl was, confirming to Zerori that she unfortunately didn’t imagine it. With a sigh, and a promise to fight ANOTHER new training location, Zerori was bounding from the ground and toward the gleaming source of energy. Her blood still sang with the adrenaline and emotion she’d forced herself to experience so when she eyed a large blue dinosaur with a Saiyan girl in it’s claws - it took little motivation to feel the bloodlust of battle.
Like a bullet, Zerori was upon the creature - grasping at it’s tough skin as if it were merely a paper towel, “Hungry, you fat bastard?!” She yelled, bringing up an arm and - without realizing it - materialized a giant black and red claw - shorter than her usual vector, but it was easier to master in short bursts. With a roar, she cleaved it through the beasts’ body before ripping it away and rending it’s flesh. With her power far beyond the dino’s, it would drop it’s hold on the Saiyan girl and screech in pain before falling to the ground.
Victorious but not finished, Zerori would have to take a chance with her new power and lurched an arm downwards toward where she’d begun her fall - another long red and black arm stretching from her shoulder and expanding large enough to catch the girl JUST before she’d take any damage from the landing - mere meters from the ground.
Physically sweating and magically spent, Zerori’s Shadow Claw would dissipate - leaving the girl to drop the rest of the way harmlessly as the hybrid woman would float down to the ground to join her. Ignoring her body giving her signs that she’d over-extended herself, Zerori landed to lean against a tree in what she hoped was a cool pose (arms crossed and all) before she smirked.
“And what were YOU doing out here in the middle of nowhere, kid?” Starting to notice a pattern of kids getting in trouble in these parts. This one had a parent, didn’t they?

After the young girl had let out her initial scream, she had been nearly quiet due to the fear that had crept upon her. She was only six and her imagination had led her to quickly think of a handful of scenario's where she became dinosaur food. She was petrified, terrified, and shaken right down to the core. Her father was nowhere in sight and her brother, who knew if he could handle the situation. She felt like she was doomed, about to be a meal for a family of monsters. This had even been on her mind for a few seconds of free falling from the sky. Everything had happened so fast that Cress didn't even realize that she had been freed from the creatures grasps, she flipped around in the air and looked up and saw her beautiful, heroic savior taking the monster down in one fell swoop! Even though she was still falling, she couldn't help but smile!
Before she had collided with the ground, the mysterious woman had caught her and released her only feet from the ground, Cress had landed safely and her ocean blue eyes watched as the woman had landed near and taken a really cool looking pose. It was only then that the woman had spoken, and it was almost wording like she was in trouble but she didn't much care. Cress didn't even answer the question, she simply smiled brightly and innocently and sprinted towards the woman, her arms tightly wrapping around her heroes leg. "Thank you so much! You are SOOOO cool!" She blurted out with excitement. It had appeared that Cress had found herself a new hero, maybe even one cooler than her father. Finally Cress had began to answer the question loudly and clearly, without letting go of Zerori's leg. "I got bored so I came to find my family, they're training and they're really strong just like you!" Of course Cress couldn't actually determine power levels but in her mind, everybody who showed a display like that must've been strong!
It was at this point that Athren hand landed about twenty feet from the pair of females, he touched down very gently as his own ocean blues observed the scene that was happening before him. His right eyebrow arched ever so curiously as his face was plastered with one simple look. 'What the fuck?' had been written all over his face, passively and full of confusion. This was absolutely new to him, she had NEVER seen Cress interact with a stranger, let alone get that close to one. Though it would make sense, she often talked about how she missed having a mommy.
It was at this moment that Cress looked over to her dad, "Daddy!" She exclaimed as she finally released Zerori's leg. It was at this point that the young girl sprinted over to her father.
Athren of course, well his eyes didn't leave Zerori, it was in his nature to be cautious but he absolutely believed that this woman wasn't a threat in the slightest, he had managed to catch the tail end of the monsters demise and obviously this woman had just been trying to help. It was at this point that he took a knee to get on Cress' level as she finally drew near to him and his eyes had finally dropped from the woman to his daughter. "You alright, kid?" He said without a single tone of worry in his voice, he was calm and collected.
Cress couldn't help but give her dad a huge hug, it was at this point that Athren's eye settled back on Zerori. If she had paid close attention, it would have been clear that this time he slowly glanced her down from head to toe, taking in the visual. Cress replied rapidly, her voice so full of excitement and wonder. "I'm GREAT! I was climbing to come see you! THEN THIS MONSTER WAS LIKE SWOOSH, Then I fell! And then she saved me!" She giggled rapidly, "Can she be my new mommy!?" She said really loudly, for all in the area to hear, even her brother who had been creeping up on foot slowly.
Cress' question had definitely been one he hadn't heard before and it had caught him off guard, his eyes widened ever so slightly as he starred right at Zerori's eyes. If he wasn't so calm and calculated, he might've even found his cheeks turning a light shade of red. Slowly, he moved Cress back and got back up to his feet, his ocean blues focusing down on his daughter. "Well kid, I'm glad she saved you. Though.." At this point his eyes rose back up to Zerori. "I don't think that's what she's here for." He said referring to the question made by his daughter. "It sounds like I owe you one." He finally said to the woman.

She’d honestly expected the kid to get scared and maybe run off somewhere; after all, it wasn’t often that some stranger in armor comes along and saves you with weird and strange powers. What ended up happening instead, however, was the young girl in Saiyan armor to come rushing at her to hug around her leg in an awkward turn of events. Zerori learned forward, her face - sans the helmet - a shocked and confused expression of concern before she hesitantly brought a hand up to pat the girl cautiously on the back. Against her better judgment, a smile found its way to her face as the girl explained why she was here and that, thankfully, she wasn’t alone. “Well, let’s see if we can get you back to ‘em, alright?” She’d learned up, ready to use whatever resources she had at her disposal, when out of the corner of her eyes she spotted someone touch down.
He was strong, that much Zerori could tell, and by the way he was staring at her - he was wary as well. It brought the twitch of a smirk to her face before the young girl also took notice of the new arrival and ran up to them. Father? And he wasn’t too far behind, either… Zerori noted to herself as the young girl regaled him of her brief adventure. She rolled her shoulders, taking great satisfaction in being considered the young girl’s hero - even if she was ANYTHING but… right up until the point that she’d made the mention of wanting her to be the new ‘mommy’.
To which the demonic Saiyan would find herself holding a hand to her mouth to stifle the sudden mix of laughter and coughing. She hadn’t noticed him taking a good look at her but she certainly looked at him after that and their eyes locked. For what felt like a long moment, Zerori was lost in his own oddly colored gaze - realizing slowly that she couldn’t recall seeing another Saiyan with blue eyes. It took him standing back up and speaking for Zerori to blink rapidly and regain her composure. The answer he gave his daughter was correct, even if it was just to placate her.
Zerori cleared her throat, bringing a hand up to swipe at her nose with her thumb as she looked at Cress, “Sorry to disappoint, kid but... your Dad’s right,” She looked back up at Athren, a sly grin on her face, “He does owe me one.” With a wink, Zerori felt as if she’d managed to regain control of herself and the situation and crossed her arms again, “So… a group of Saiyans in the wilds, huh? Are you all from Earth or Vegeta?” She certainly hoped it didn’t come off as an interrogation but it wasn’t often that Zerori purposefully interacted with Saiyans that weren’t basically groomed on Earth like she was.
Sometimes, she missed home but after spending more than half of her life here… the memories of her life on Vegeta felt farther and farther away. Sometimes, it was even hard to remember what the trip on the ship was like even getting to Earth. Briefly, she felt as if she could sense the presence of someone else nearby but didn't pry anymore than usual. "Not to be nosy, but... You got another kid?" She questioned, turning her head in the direction from which she sensed the power.

The moment their gave had met, Athren was a little more intrigued by the woman. He couldn't exactly put his finger on it and he couldn't explain it, but there was more to it than he could explain though it wasn't like he was going to bother to try. He was going to let the situation ride out, see how she acted and simple take it all in. It was upon hearing Zerori's answer that Cress would've frowned and gave a little grunt. "HMPH! I never get what I want!" She wasn't overly pleased with her dads answer or the answer given to her by her hero. Why couldn't they just give the girl what she wanted? It wasn't like she was asking for a whole lot! She wanted a female role model in her life! Somebody that she could spend time with and befriend! Of course Athren couldn't help but roll his eyes at his daughters reaction, though his right brow would have arched slightly when she gave him a little wink. He could only wonder what she'd end up requesting him do in the future but he was a man of his word regardless, he wouldn't back down as long as the request was something reasonable. It was something he'd discuss with her when he managed to dismiss his kid. Athren had then listened to her question and gave a little shrug of his shoulders and gave the woman a faint little smirk. "Well.. " Athren had paused a very brief moment, it was almost hard to believe that he was actually about to open up to somebody the second they met, even if it were pretty minor details. "We're from Vegeta but with the way that whole ordeal is going, it was best off to try and make our own way elsewhere, somewhere she could have a life and be valued." Of course his last sentence had come from a place of experience, being a very solid member of the Saiyan army, he knew exactly how they were treated and the soldiers, even the best were no more than expendable. It was an obvious detail, when Athren's ocean blues scanned her elegant body, they had noticed she had a tail of her own. "What about yourself? Move here, born here? What's your story?" He asked rather casually, he was slowly going to make an approach before he picked up on his son approaching approximately the same time that she did. It had been at that moment if she had questioned whether or not he had another kid and he couldn't help but give a little sigh, neither of them could just listen to simple instruction could they? His eyes fell to the ground briefly as he took a breathe and shook his head lightly. "Yeah, and apparently neither of them listen." He said with a louder tone so Celric would take the hint. His eyes rose and his head turned to the trees where Celric had been hiding. It was at that point that the eight year old emerged from the woods, he didn't look overly impressed. For one, his training had been cut short by his sister and now it's being put on further pause because of a woman? Celric had seen one too many female visitors in the past and he had an idea of what was up, even if he didn't know the full details. "Lemme guess, my trainings cut short because you'd rather train with her in your room, Right?!" He exclaimed, almost in a pouting tone. At this point Athren had let out another deep sigh, both his hands coming to his face to just take a moment. Sometimes, he just couldn't with these two and now Cress had chimed in. "She's going to be our new mommy!" Cress said loudly, disregarding everything the two adults had stated to her about that situation. Celric would have clenched his fists as he walked over to his sister, his black eyes glaring over at Zerori. "Her? be our new mom? We don't need a mom and I'd bet I could beat her in a straight up fight! She looks weak! Besides, we don't NEED a mom!" It was at this point that the two kids began to bicker very loudly and argue between the two about the situation, Athren on the other hand was just having a moment to himself to just register what the hell they had just said. Finally getting himself to speak his hands lowered and he rose his voice. "That's enough! Both of you, both of you didn't listen today, one of you almost got hurt and.." It was in this moment that his ocean blue eyes gazed upon his son. "You're about to get the shit kicked out of you by a woman if you keep talking your shit and I'm really just about to let it happen!" Both children had immediately shut up and put their full attention onto their father. "So here's whats going to happen, Celric. You're going to take your sister back home with you right now, and I'm going to deal with the BOTH of you whenever it is I get back and If you decide to do ANYTHING other than return home immediately, I'll let Ukare handle the two of you." Ukare wasn't their father but he was Athren's best friend, a tough Namekian that really knew how to handle kids and their attitudes. It was almost funny though, how he was the scary one to the two little ones but it gave Athren that tool he needed when they both started acting a fool. In all honesty, without a partner, it had been tough raising two children spawned from a half demon. He didn't even know how he managed it half the time but clearly they were here, they were doing alright and they weren't complete assholes. So, he was obviously doing something right and it could only get better from here, right?

Zerori wouldn’t admit it, but she kind of liked the spunky little kid. She reminded her of herself when she didn’t get what she wanted; except she’d always been stomping around and challenging people to try and get it anyway. Glancing away from Athren’s kid, Zerori was intrigued by his reasoning for leaving. The way things had been going? Given she didn’t have any interest in Vegeta’s affairs and was way too young to care about the problems that they had when she was younger, Zerori just gave a single-shouldered shrug in response, “Sounds about right to me. Place sucked, even if it was home,” Maybe she’d been on Earth too long but, so long as you ignored the racism and hate crimes, this planet was leagues beyond what Vegeta had to offer.
At his question, Zerori quirked an eyebrow up inquisitively before she realized he must have recognized that she was a Saiyan. “Born on Vegeta but was… displaced when I was young. My father wanted me to live on Earth and I just wanted to make him proud. I’ve lived here for more than half my life and honestly? Probably the best decision he ever made,” She grinned. It was around this time that Athren caught onto his kid hiding and she just gave an amused chuckle, “Don’t be too hard on him. Probably just worried for his sister, right?” She approached with cautious footsteps, uncrossing her arms as she prepared to introduce herself.
That is, until he made it clear that Athren was… active with his pursuits of females, Goddamn, Zerori looked up at Athren, a look of surprise and shocked amusement on her face, “You don’t say?” It was a HILARIOUS situation to witness, even if she was basically being told that… Well, he got around. Who cares - so did she. She was content to let it just play out until Cress made the sudden claim that she was going to be her mother. Zerori turned, eyebrows furrowed, “Now, hang on-” And apparently, Athren’s son took that personally and claimed that even he could beat her - prompting Zerori to whirl right back around on the little brat and repeat with more severity, “I said hang the FUCK on!” Never had she felt the incorrigible urge to lay a child out on the ground.
Thankfully, Athren did a marvelous job of simultaneously bringing them to heel and reading the room that she was about to yeet a child in the forest and see how they fare without her interference. She huffed through her nose, trying to calm down - she actually liked the little brat, too. He had a pair on him. As a matter of fact, Zerori had an idea that had the potential to endear herself to them. After Athren’s instructions but before they could be on their way, she straightened up and addressed Celric, “Any time you wanna go, boy, you just let me know,” Her grin was all teeth and fighting spirit as she finished, “Maybe I can teach you a thing or two your old man won’t. Your sister can join you, too!... if you think you can’t handle it,” She teased.
The idea of training a bunch of kids wasn't exactly what Zerori considered a useful dedication of her time... but she didn't mind making exceptions for kids that she liked. How long had it been since she got to act like a kid or even enjoy the concept of a mentor figure? Too long and perhaps, for her, having a figure in her life to look up to had long since passed. Responsibilities, ambition and having to grow up at an early age to take care of herself had taken it's toll of her. She didn't mind or, more accurately, didn't care to try and relive any missed childhood moments. Her moment was now and she wasn't going to miss a minute of it.
When the kids had gone on their way back to whatever settlement Athren had established, Zerori would find a nice flat-ish stump and take a seat, still quite exhausted from using her magic so carelessly. "Your kids are nice. Eight out of ten; I might not even throw one to save the other," She laughed, trying to lighten the mood.

Athren had listened to her speak of the conditions of Vegeta and how it had rather sucked, he nodded his head as he listened. She was absolutely right, but with everything going on he couldn't help but hope there was a chance for it to get better, even if it was a small chance he had been holding out hope. Once the Royal Family could be removed from their power, every single individual saiyan had the ability to take their own power back and that was exactly what the planet had needed to make it something special again. "You're not wrong but there's hope it'll be better, someday." There hadn't been much more to add to it, it was all up to the actions of few at this point and if it ever did change, maybe one day he'd return.
He couldn't help but straighten up a little further when she spoke of her own history, it was the more interesting part of what she had been saying, he was actually intrigued by it. It could've been the fact that she was a really good looking woman, or maybe that it had been the first interaction with a new saiyan in a long time, regardless he couldn't help but get invested. Cress of course, made sure that she'd hear every word that Zerori had to say. It was like she couldn't afford to miss a single one. "Well, I hope that results of your fathers decision rub off on me a little bit. Earth has it's moments so far. I'll give it that." He kept it rather short and sweet, he simply hadn't been there long enough to experience a lot.
Athren couldn't help but chuckle as he shrugged his shoulders and glanced down at Cress when Celric's concern for his sister had come up. "If he were to be concerned and actually show it, I'd have to say it'd be a surprise to me. He tries to act like your typical tough guy saiyan." Athren rolled his eyes, wishing his boy didn't get to watch other saiyan's when he was younger.
With his deep sigh released and his face in his hands for that brief moment, he listened to her reaction and it wasn't nearly what he thought it would be. Clearly, she had a sense of humor and that was a good thing. As their back and fourth continued and the kids had bickered, Athren didn't expect her to get loud with the kids, but she was handling the situation really well.
He had listened to her tell Celric exactly what he told him she'd do and he couldn't help but give a little chuckle, his ocean blue eyes glancing over as she did. Though his right eyebrow couldn't hold back it's arch when she offered to teach them a thing or two. It was at this moment that his eyes focused specifically on Cress who he hoped would be interested. He knew Celric wouldn't show any interest but if his daughter did? That was absolutely something he could support. She wanted her to at least be capable of defending herself as a bare minimum, if she didn't want to be a fighter that was fine, but Athren still had some expectations on the matter.
Cress had surely perked up a little but she didn't say much. This was something he'd have to discuss with her back at their settlement. He'd run it passed Celric too and give him the chance to give it a go but Athren was rather confident in what would happen their. If anything, he'd probably just want to train harder with his father in order to keep the edge on Cress and maybe even defeat Zerori, even though that wouldn't even be a possibility for a long time but kids will be kids, right?
When Celric had hovering into the air and picked up Cress, Cress would have simply waved by to Zerori. After the both of them had a stern encounter with the adults, they were rather quiet and defeated at this point. They flew off rather slowly but at least they had finally listened to something today and would give their dad a little peace and quiet, and let's be honest, it was much deserved at this point after what they had decided to put him through.
Athren's ocean blues watched as Zerori walked over to a stump and took a seat, it was at this point that he finally approached and closed the distance. "I'd give the brats a solid five out of ten, clearly you're the lighter judge." He gave her a friendly smirk as he leaned his shoulder against a tree that had been close to her and crossed his arms. "I'm rather impressed how you handled that situation, are you sure you don't want to be their 'new mommy'?" He couldn't help but change his voice slightly to a lighter tone when he said the words new mommy, it was a rather entertaining thing that had been brought up today, but what was left than to make a joke about it. Right?
Once more he rotated his head and glanced over at her, a smirk shifting into a glowing smile while his eyes didn't leave hers for even a moment. "All playing around aside though, I'm grateful you showed up. Thanks for taking care of the situation for me. " Whether or not Athren felt he could've handled it before his daughter got hurt was kind of irrelevant, by time he got there, it was handled. "So miss saiyan lady, I assume my daughters new sparkling, beautiful hero has a name. Yeah?" He couldn't help but give a light chuckle this time around, though before she spoke he added in one more thing. "I'm Athren, the brat of a boy is Celric and your new worshiper is Cress.. and I bet you're going to be all she talks about for the next week or so." There was truth in this statement and surely, it'd get old really quickly.

After Zerori had sat down and made her impromptu, more to break the ice than to actually judge anything in earnest, she’d give a snort at their father’s low blow rating of his own kids and then a harsh bark of laughter at his joke, “HAH! I’ll pass, thanks! Not exactly the kind of ‘mommy’ I’m used to be called, if you get my meaning,” Her wry grin told volumes of her own crude humor and she hoped that it might drop the subject for the moment. However, to be fair, she’d give him a proper response, “I haven’t thought about having kids or taking care of any, but… if I did, they’re not so bad,” With another shrug, Zerori let the thought drop from her mind for a while. At the offer of gratitude, Zerori just waved him off, “Not a big deal. Like I said, you weren’t far behind.” Maybe it was the weird feeling of having been in the right place at the right time but the thought of doing ‘heroic’ deeds never really settled well for her.
After engaging in crime that most certainly affected the lives of people on this planet, perhaps even irrevocably, Zerori wasn’t in any hurry to take the credit for deeds that were more or less what decent people would have done. Thankfully, and perhaps ironically, Zerori looked back at Athren with the most bemused look before responding with a light shove and a laugh, “Zerori, you fuckin’ charmer!” She said between her laughter. Was this what it was like for Anastasia when she was just flirtatious comebacks one after the other? If so… Well, what did she have to complain about?!
Still, it was nice to have names for faces. So it was Cress she’d saved and Celric who had challenged her and the lady killer was Athren. Easy enough to remember! “Is that right? Well, you be sure to tell me all about it; only good things, of course,” She preened, pretending to dust off some dirt from her shoulder before she grinned at him. Gradually, the smirk would soften as she thought seriously about how the girl had reacted to her. Was she really in need of a mother figure in her life? Athren seemed plenty capable but perhaps there was something he lacked.
With a grunt, Zerori continued, “Jokes aside, Athren. She does seem quite… taken by the idea of me. I’m not used to having fans, given my line of work, but maybe something can be worked out. I’m not exactly, uh…” She coughed into her fist, “-’Mom Material’. I’m a drunk aunt with a tendency to spoil people rotten. I can assure you that, if you leave them with me, one of them is going to be spoiled fucking rotten,” She teased, even if she wasn’t lying in the least.

He listened to her and chuckled though his reply would be on the rather bolder side. "Oh, I think I get your meaning. Though I think I'd rather experience it if I'm being completely honest with you." At this point he would've given her a playful little wink to mimic what she had done minutes ago. Although he was playing and maybe hoping she'd take the bait, he did straighten out and get back to the real conversation. "They're a handful, Saiyan children are more than enough to deal with but add in that little bit of demonic spice they've got going on?" He shook his head with a chuckle, "This was a good day and they weren't listening worth a damn." His shoulders shrugged, so lost in the moment that he wasn't even aware he was opening up about his personal life and breaking one of his own rules.
He then shook his head when she claimed it wasn't a big deal, "You're right, I might've been right there but who knows what could have happened in that second. I've seen a lot stronger people lose their lives over a mistake that lasted less than a second." This wasn't even an exaggeration, this was the truth. With the speeds of the warriors he fought with and against, it didn't take much to let your guard down and lose your life. "So whether you like it or not, I'm grateful and as her father, It's a big deal to me." He tried to make eye contact once more a real, genuine smile crossing over his face.
Upon her hearing how he requested her name, her reaction was one that he was pleased with. It honestly couldn't have gone much better, light physical contact along with a laugh? He'd say he was on the right track with this individual. Luckily, Athren wasn't just calculated with his fights and he had a habit of trying to calculate everything, even on the spot and in a moments noticed. "Zerori?" He said aloud rather softly being giving off another light smile with an added chuckle. "It's fitting, I'm not going to lie to you about that." He didn't even have to respond to her comment about him being a charmer, it was written all over his body and face.
Given they were just having words now Athren had felt no need to be so tense, he let himself slide down the tree trunk with his back into a sitting position on the ground, he kept one leg straight and the other bent with his arm resting on the knee, he still somewhat had to look cool in his appearance, he couldn't afford to just lay around with no style, he had a reputation to keep and a woman to impress. He shrugged his shoulders upon hearing her request. "I'd be more than happy to tell you the bad if there was any but I mean, look at you. Just look at you!" Of course his eyes would've scanned her down from head to toe once again quickly to emphasis what he had been saying, "You're perfect on the eyes and you saved my kid. There really isn't going to be any bad, at least right now anyway." At this point he gave another playful, teasing wink.
Once more it had appeared that the serious talks were to be had and Zerori had decided to own up to her own personality traits, yet she wouldn't even begin to understand how much Athren could relate to all of it. So far they were seeming more alike than they'd ever even realize. "Listen, She hasn't had a female role model in her life for what.. Two years? I think she just missed having somebody to go to that well.. Wasn't me? Everything that comes up, It's always me. Plus, she isn't a fighter so I can't really relate to her. You'd do fine, as long as she's happy and safe, I'm happy and you're safe." His last statement wasn't a threat, regardless of how she saved Cress Athren didn't know this woman at all. She may have been good but maybe her decision making process wasn't up to par to keep a kid safe in the long run. It wasn't something he'd think about but he had to try and put it into perspective that the best care must be taken with his children and if there wasn't, maybe you wouldn't be safe. Though Athren figured it wouldn't quite come to that.

The audacity, not that Zerori minded, from this man was jarring but in a good way. The last time she had a man taunt on her level was… well, not too long ago, but she hadn’t seen him since that day in the bar. It didn’t help that the mission with him fell through rather terribly. What caught her attention, however, was the mention of ‘demonic spice’ in Athren’s children and Zerori blinked in surprise. “Demonic ‘what’? A-... Are your kids part Demon?” She had no idea but now that she thought about it, his boy’s spice was quite high. She’d had her own assumptions based on her strange powers about her own odd heritage but as far as Zerori was concerned? She was just a strange Saiyan.
With a shrug, she accepted that Athren felt strongly about her involvement and decided against any more attempts at being humble. She would have been fine to leave it at that, but mere moments later the charm was back and Zerori was giving a mocking look of disgust, “Stop it. Please,” It wasn’t that she didn’t enjoy it but she didn’t really handle genuine compliments and flirting very well. As shallow as it sounded, Zerori was more comfortable playing the ‘game of love’ as opposed to having any active part in it. Perhaps he was laying it on a little thick but Zerori didn’t let that stop her from returning, “You’re not so bad yourself,” It was a little weaker than what she usually dished out but things were getting a little too much for her.
The explanation Athren gave, at least, helped to ease the pressure she might have felt, “A role model? I’m… not really certain I’m ideal for that, either but training? Sure. Sign her up and we’ll see what she can do,” There wasn’t a chance in hell for her to miss the very subtle hint of warning in there as well, and that elicited one of the slowest and sharpest grins she could give. “‘You’re happy and I’m safe’, huh? Good to know,” She drew out a little longer, standing up from the rock a moment later. With a stretch, bones cracking and popping in response, Zerori would turn to him with an almost predatory half smile.
“Get up. It’s time to talk about compensation, Athren,” While she had no idea what she was going to ask for in regards to spending time with his kids and training them - no way was she doing that for free - but in return for saving his little girl… she was owed some time lost for training. She walked around him, a casual strut as she spoke, “You don’t seem to have a problem with blowing sunshine up my ass and then making it clear that if I step out of line… that ‘safety’ may be at risk. So, let’s give both of us some reassurance. You find out if my strength really is up to stuff and if I’m a threat to you and I get some training out of it that I was trying to do today.”
She stopped abruptly, looking at him with her head cocked to the side. “We got a deal?”

Athren of course didn't catch himself opening up until it was a little too late but at this point, what the hell? He started it and he damn well could've went on. After all, it all had to start somewhere. There was a vast majority of his faction that started off just like she did, a complete stranger and quite a bit of small talk. So far he hadn't said anything that would have ruined his contract or but anybody he cared about in harms way, It wouldn't have hurt to go just a little bit further in depth on it. Upon hearing her question her kids being part demon he simply nodded his head. "They get it from their father." Although as he looked into her eyes he couldn't help but speak up even more. "I'm half saiyan and half demon." He gave a little smirk. "And you Zerori, are most likely not a pure saiyan yourself."
Her eyes were a dead give away to it, the only saiyan's he had ever seen with different eyes besides pitch black were hybrids, though it was possible she was just different, he strongly believed that he was right. Even if he hadn't been, maybe it was something she could find out for herself. Before she could even question this statement he couldn't help but state it. "It's the eyes, they're a give away."
Of course Athren's charm was coming on a little strong, it seemed to always work for him but clearly the situation was different here. She straight up requested him to stop and he'd listen, he wasn't going to ask like a desperate dog, he put her on notice of his interest and maybe some intent and if she wanted to follow up, she was more than welcome too. He wouldn't be able to stop completely, he'd just make the timings more appropriate. Though he couldn't help but give another mild little smirk upon her compliment to him.
Though things started to get a little interesting now in another way, and Athren wouldn't not speak his mind. "A role model doesn't mean she'll need to pick up every single trait you have. I had plenty when I was younger, I took a little bit from all of them and used it to become my own person." He shrugged. "If she can take your lessons on fighting and want to fight like you. Then you're a perfect role model for that." His shoulders shrugged once again, though he couldn't help but watch as she stood up.
His eyes stayed locked onto her as his right eyebrow had arched curiously. He listened to every single one of her words and thought about it quickly, he wanted to be very clear here. "You know if I'm compensating you right now, that kind of negates the fact that I owe you one? Regardless.." At this point, he too stood up and took a few steps closer to her, their heights perfectly matched. "I'll be clear, I ain't blowing any damn sunshine. What I said was true, it's what I thought and It doesn't matter if you're a threat to me or not." He paused for a moment, withdrawing some of his straight forward attitude. "I get if you're training her, she's going to come home bruised, hurt. It's part of it. If anybody were to get her killed, It wouldn't matter how strong they were. I'd come for them with every single resource I had at my disposal." He tried to maintain eye contact, he was dead serious here. "That's all I'm trying to get across."
He paused for one more moment, if she really wanted to do this, fine. "If you really want to do this, you've got a deal but don't think I didn't notice how winded you looked when I landed. You sure you want to do this now? because the truth is, I'd rather fight you when you're fresh." Athren wasn't going to back down from the fight, he didn't really need to prove anything to anybody and as for her? He could already tell she was strong and could protect Cress. He just needed there to be a warning, she deserved to know that IF anything horrible were to happen, he wouldn't just sit back. Whatever happened next was up to her.

She wasn’t expecting the response Athren had given, much less with the amount of seriousness he’d presented his observation with. While she’d always been a bit wary of how strange she was and the uniqueness of her powers, the idea that she could just straight up be a Demon was fairly far from what she believed to be the reality. “Uh,” She balked, uncertain what to do with the information before she blinked and just accepted, “Well, shit. That’s nice to know. I suppose it does take one to know one if you’re a Demon or… something like that,” He certainly didn’t look like he was brimming with the power of fire and brimstone but that could also just be the stereotype in her head talking. Thankfully, they could put the conversation off for another day because it was time to focus on business.
Though, she’d be lying if she didn’t admit silently that she was a little interested in training the young girl. There was just something about her that held tightly to Zerori’s conscience and didn’t want to let go and if there was a chance she could impart even a little bit of her ability - there was hardly a need to hesitate.
When Athren approached her, his words the epitome of cold objectivity, Zerori couldn’t help the shiver that rushed down her spine and fluffed out her tail into a lashing, excited mess. Both of their blue eyes meeting in a clashing show of severe intent and twinkling amusement - the smile of her lips widening as she met his energy head-on with her own. “Oh yeah? Well, consider the message heard loud and clear, Papa Bear,” She teased, bringing her arms up to cross them with all the confidence she could bring to bear after her exhaustive use of her magic.
The likes of which he… apparently noticed, Goddamn it. She was really hoping he’d have missed that detail, her smile falling into an annoyed grimace just before she rolled her eyes, “Noticed that, did you? Well, forget about it because in a life and death situation, I’m not gonna be afforded the chance to breathe just because I’m getting used to my powers. Besides, how do you know I’m gonna use my claws against you?” She turned around, bringing up a hand to mime clawing in his direction before she walked away to get some distance between them. In case she wasn’t clear about it-
After a good twenty or so paces away, Zerori turned back around and cracked her neck, “-Did I mention I’d like to do this now?” She asked rhetorically with a wink before rushing at him suddenly with an arm pulled back, swinging forward and toward his jaw just as she reached him with the intent to launch him toward the trees. She wasn’t going to assume he couldn’t dodge or counter the blow, but she wasn’t going to hold back either. A warm-up was what she needed as a prelude before she’d try and use her claws again - if that was what Athren was hoping to see if their little sparring match.
Trust me, Papa Bear. I ain’t gonna disappoint, Zerori thought with a smirk.

Whatever was going through her head, Athren sure as shit couldn't tell but he knew that this was going to be an interesting development one way or another and he'd be lying if he didn't admit that he was invested in this whole situation. Whether or not she took it upon herself to be involved with Cress and train her didn't much matter at the end of the day, though Athren would have much preferred that Cress got involved in fighting at least enough to be able to defend herself against low level threats. She was a saiyan-demon child after all, she had the power to do such a thing.
His approach had ended and he picked up on her body language rather easily. She wasn't trying to hide anything she was feeling. She was excited and if anything, that just brought Athren's own mood up. It wasn't often that he got to enjoy more playful, carefree and exciting moments. He found himself too busy in the seriousness of all his work and responsibilities but this woman had intrigued him. The attitude, the suspected common background, she had been similar to him but a little more on the fun side of things and Athren could be one to admit that he needed something like that. He couldn't help but smile back as their eyes met and her words rushed into his ears. "Good." He chuckled, "I wouldn't want to say it twice." He gave a rather casual shrug as his eyes remained on her.
Though it was almost like the flick of a light switch and the mood shifted. The smile faded as he watched her closely and listened even more carefully. His right brow arched as she clawed towards him and started walking away. Her body language and overall attitude was a solid indicator that something was going to happen and he had a safe bet on what, though the distance she put between the two of them would have given him more than enough time to react.
When she launched herself forward he couldn't help but smile, he simply shifted his body to the side and placed his hand on her arm to help use her own momentum to let her glide passed him a little bit. Though he thought about starting to play right away, he wanted to get a little more comfortable. "I'll tell you, I try to notice everything about anybody who could be a potential threat. You'll never know when you'll need it." At this point Athren put his faith in her that she wouldn't strike him when he showed himself vulnerable. He placed his hands on the bottom of his armor and lifted it off his head and toss it to the side.
"So get used to your powers, with me." This comment wasn't JUST speaking of this moment right now, that was an open invitation for whenever she wanted. He gave her a smile before removing his shirt and tossing it aside as well while exposing a large scar on his chest. In all honesty, he just wanted to have a little bit of fun with this. He thought about commenting on regards to her using her claws against him but it was unnecessary, he didn't think she would given she must have still been tired from the original use and if she did use them again, she'd just leave herself winded. High risk, high reward scenario but she must've clued in by now that Athren was a veteran. He had been all around the universe and experienced countless techniques, though nothing along the lines of claws, he was adapted to dodging sharp objects.
"I don't expect you would." He said before pushing himself off the ground and launching towards her, his right leg swinging wide and rather predictably towards her left shoulder. From somebody spectating, his attack was very much shown before he was even half way through swinging it but that was it's purpose, he wanted to start off a little light and playful. Win or lose, it didn't really matter much to him. He just wanted to enjoy the experience.

Zerori scoffed as she slid to a stop, impressed and irritated at once upon being so easily dodged and redirected. Just as she was about to spring back into another assault, however, it would be Athren’s next words that gave her pause. She cocked a single eyebrow, standing back up and dropping her guard when it seemed apparent that he wasn’t ready to fight just yet. She rolled her eyes with a soft bark of laughter before she watched him abscond with his own armor and shirt a moment later. Quick as a fox, Zerori’s eyes took in his toned and muscular form in the short span of a microsecond before she focused her eyes back on him. “Mhm…” An appreciative noise for more than one reason, Zerori would take a step back as she sized him up not just physically but taking in the amount of trust he was willing to give her.
He wanted her to practice her powers with him? If she didn’t know better, she might have believed that he was doing so out of altruism. She wasn’t ready to admit that another Saiyan could have her best interest at heart - certainly not one that may be like her in other ways she didn’t quite understand yet AND whom seemed hungry to find her weaknesses. She sighed through her nose before shaking her head, “I don’t like to make things that predictable… so just be on your toes,” And that was all that needed to be said before he was rushing at her with an easily telegraphed attack.
Guess we really are just doing this for fun, aren’t we? Zerori thought with a grin as she bent backwards at an almost comical angle before throwing her hand to the ground. Balancing her weight on it, she’d throw her opposite leg up in an attempt to catch him in the back. Since she wasn’t going to use her power too soon, needing a bit of a breather, Zerori would defer to her athletic ability and natural limberness to try and keep the fight going.
Hit or miss, Zerori would fall into a controlled roll before getting back to her feet and adopting a stance. “So, while we’re on the subject since I hate fighting in silence-” She began, using the objects around her to her advantage and taking up with sizable rocks to pelt at Athren, “Tell me about your own ‘demonic nature’ - How’d you figure it out?” If he figured it out she could, too. It was only a matter of tracing things back now that she had a direction to go in.
Demon sounded a lot better than ‘freak of nature’, after all.

It didn't quite take Athren by surprise that she didn't attack when he gave her an opponent, but he was rather grateful. It showed him that she had a sense of pride or honor, or whatever you really wanted to call it. It was a respectable trait. Unfortunately he didn't catch her eyes giving him a quick glance as he was focused on what he was doing but he would be lying if he said he wasn't aiming to get that kind of reaction.
After telling her that she could practice her abilities on him, she didn't exactly seem to accepting of the idea though he was going to expect her abilities to come out at one point or another, his on the other hand would stay concealed. That wasn't a card he was going to show yet, he'd keep that card in the deck of 'just in case'. Of course he knew that his decision could potentially put him in a position to lose this little spar but what did it matter? It wasn't the real deal, he didn't feel like she was any threat or would go for any fatal blows. At this point he assumed the worst case would be she'd have bragging rights but that could be far surpassed in the future. For now, he was just going to worry about trying to have a little fun.
He couldn't help but chuckle at her reply, "Listen, I'm always on my toes." Whether she chose to believe him or not was on her but he always expected the unexpected. He had been around the universe once or twice and experience had given him plenty of perspective on things. He could read body language rather well and anticipate types of attacks quite accurately. Of course he wasn't always right but it gave him a level of comfort in a fight that just made him fight better over all. Athren wasn't the type of fighting to watch the incoming attack, he'd watch the twitch of a muscle or the change in a stance to indicate what part of the opponents body was coming his way and go from there. He liked to be as many steps ahead as he could be, though it was possible that she'd be a very hard read and he'd find out in a hurry.
As Athren threw his attack towards her he couldn't help but arch a brow at the way she had decided to avoid it, it was rather curious. She was either being that playful or deliberately making a mockery out of his very telegraphed move. He had made it easy to dodge for a reason but she had taken his level of simplicity and amplified it tenfold and that was fine by him. His leg simply swept over her body and completely missed but that was kind of expected. With a quick balance of her weight, her own leg had collided with his back. His body got nudged forward slightly before his feet touched the ground and he rapidly spun around to continue their playful little session.
She began to speak as Athren had already pressed his foot against the ground to leap forward to stay in close contact with her, on his way he would simply arch his brow again, his forearm getting in the way of the rocks that were being tossed at him. He'd have to admit, he would have never seen the rocks coming. They were pretty harmless, he assumed that she was just having fun with it and honestly, it had put a genuine smile on his face, one that would probably remain permanent until the end of this hole thing. It was rather nice having absolutely zero stakes in it.
After absorbing the brunt force of the rocks with his arm and closing the gap, Athren kept his attacks very simple. He jabbed his right fist towards her nose and swung his left fist upwards in attempt to hit her in the jaw with a solid uppercut. Though they were simple, he picked up the speed on them and made them a lot less predictable. His eyes attempted to stay focused on hers, though he did make an attempt to take note of her movements to prepare for the counter. He expected a little bit of a back and forth but given the uniqueness of this woman, he also didn't think she'd hold true to those expectations. Giving in to her request, Athren spoke while he continued on with a little barrage of fists, the rest of them not necessary aimed at anything in particular, he'd simply try to catch her in spots she had left exposed with her own movements. "My nature came to me when I needed it, when I needed the power to put somebody else down."
He said casually before lifting his right leg and swinging for her left side, "At the time I had felt like my future was on the line, even though I was just a boy!" He kept it rather brief and simple for the time being, if she wanted to know specifics he'd be happy to tell her but she'd have to ask him for those specifics. It was quite a broad question after all, did she want to know how he controlled it, how they came to him? He could just rant the whole story but that was a little too much for what she had been asking. After all, his demonic abilities came from a very unique history, it wasn't so easily explained in just a few words. Even though he had kept his answer brief and short, he was really hoping she'd dig a little bit, the more he opened up the more he felt like she'd open up and that was a fair trade to him because something about her just hit different, from a mental standpoint, a playful standpoint, he had never found himself around somebody with such a unique personality and the ability to keep up to himself.
